This Portfolio is a collection for most of the professional work I have done since graduating university in 2014 until 2019. I have played major rules in over 12 projects in Saudi and international competitions. My work is not limited to Architecture but extends to the Furniture and Art Design fields. I have been involved heavily in producing all of the projects I worked on through Revit with the implementations of Rhino and Grasshopper. I have worked in teams with over 10 Architects/Interior Designer and led teams in Concept Design/Working Drawings phases. My personal work is very different from the Architectural work I do as it focuses on creating extremely complicated forms that are almost impossible to implement into the Architectural field in Saudi as there are many limitations in doing so. The Art and Furniture design work I do is away for me to free my self from the limitations and boundaries Architecture has.

Collaborations Aug-2014 - Present Collaborations with Artists I have continuously assisted artists in Saudi Arabia like Sami Angawi, Ahmed Angawi, Nassir and Al-Salim, Dania Al-Saib, and many more others to help realize their projects into reality and mainly by using Rhino and Grasshopper. Dec-2017 - May 2018 Marwan Bajnaid Architect Was one of the main Architects working on Takishi Castle master plan designing most of the project, thats including, the castle, the social hub, and the staff campus. I have also been part of the team to propose over 10 concepts for the Venice Binnale.

Digital Implementations of Parametric Design Through the years I have worked at Edge, I have been involved and mainly focused on the concept design stages for every project. I was leading the design of massing, and schematic design phases with the Senior Architects at the firm and implementing any modeling necessary needed through Rhino and Grasshopper while making those geometries easily adjustable or readable in Revit. ASSLA Company: Al-Kayan Engineering Area: 1,500,000 sqm Duration: 9 months Number of Designers: 3 Architects and 6 Trainees Description: ASSLA is an Equestrian Hub project that is located between Jeddah and Macca. The project is suppose to inhabit over 1400 Horses and Over 10,000 People to solve a crisis towards the stables situation in the Makkah Region.
Involvement: I was the lead Architect for the project, the main designer for the master plan and most of the Architectural buildings.

SITE ANALYSIS: Through the first stages of design, we analyzed the land given by the client to understand the geographical location for where it is and how far are the closest cities to it to understand where the general public and tourist approach to the site will be from. ASSLA is located in an equal distant between the cities of Jeddah and Makkah. It is envisioned to be a major hub for Equestrian sports for the whole region and the middle east with the addition of different leisure activities.

SITE ANALYSIS: The follow diagrams shows the starting zoning stage for the project with the considerations of limitations in the site. Both the stables and Racing Track areas were situated on the most flat-like area of the site to reduce the cost of cut and fill in the site, while the rest are planned carefully depending on peopel’s approach to the site.

Most of the wind in ASSLA comes from the Northwestern side of the site which mainly dictated where the stables area will be stationed to host the 1,500 horses to make use of the wind pushing away the smell of horses from the different other programs onsite.

RENDERING STAGE: Through the rendering stage I was responsible for all of the communication with the rendering firm in China to direct the renderings outcome in the same vision of the client’s, and directing the entire design team with the material choices. There were 15 renders produced for ASSLA in total.

Involvement: I played a major rule in being one of the core Architects to produce over 13 concept masses and carry the chosen option by the client all the way to the final Detail Design submission. My involvements were focused on the articulation of all the designed massings, designing the master plan, presentations, and detailed sheets for the Detailed Design package.

MASSING SCRIPT: Most of the concepts that were designed were mainly focused on rigid grids of 9mx9m to reduce the span of the roof shell and reduce the cost of construction as requested by the client (General Authority of Civil Aviation). Through the Detail Design Stage, I was responsible for most of the Architectural sheet submissions through out all of the different submissions. Sheets Including: - Annotation Plans (1/200 & 1/500) - Dimension Plans (1/200 & 1/500) - Elevators Details (3 Sheets) - Stairs Details (Public & Egress) (3 Sheets) - Travelators Details (3 Sheets) - Escalators Details (3 Sheets) - Room Schedule (Naming every single room through out the entire airport and make sure the numbering system is correctly arranged). I have also been the main person to integrate the Revit Structural model into the Revit Architectural model every week as both were seperated.

Company: EDGEArch Area: 25,000 sqm for the site. 8,000 for terminal building Duration: 6 months Number of Designers: 6-7 Architect Description: Abha Airport is a proposal for the new developed Airport in the Abha region.
Involvement: I played a leading rule in digitally modeling the sketches to real geometry through Rhino and Grasshopper and import it into Revit to produce all of the Architectural drawings. Concept A was suppose to reflect the rough rocky terrains of Al-Baha Region and to work as a water collector through the roof that spills into the courtyard.

MASSING SCRIPT: Through the massing modeling, there was an integration between Rhino, Grasshopper and Revit in creating this proposal. The site model was done in Revit to be exported to 3D studio max for renderings, while the airport massing was done completely in Rhino and Grasshopper. To create flexibilities in the design process, everything was parametrically designed in Grasshopper to test different iterations of the massing rapidly. The above script and diagram were made to produce the entire form of the airport through the major points explained in the diagram.

Concept B: The concept started with the idea of producing an easy constructable shell that span massive distances without any columns that allow for flexabile future expansion changes of the airport. The roof is suppose to be a water collector since the airport is over 70km in distance from any fresh water source. The Double Curvature roof shell concaves in two different directions. The structure concaves inward at the top parts to lead the rain water towards the points of water collection at the edges, while the edges concaves upward to celebrate the facades.
Elevations: Through the design process for both proposals, we had payed careful attention towards the land/air side elevations of the airport’s facade designs. We tried to reach for a monolithically massing that can be an iconic figure representing the city of Al-Baha, while the back side had to be carefully designed to allow for the planes bridges to link with the building without obstructing the skin.

SITE DESIGN: I was the initial architect to start the design of the site and the separations between the different parking areas all the way to the end of the concept design stage. There were different categories of parking lots that include: Short Term Parking, Long Term Parking, Staff Parking, Taxi Parking, Security Parking, VIP Parking ....etc. The numbers of parking areas had to be carefully counted to respond to the number of users.

SAUDI CONSULATE Complex IN KARACHI Company: EdgeArch Area: 22,000 sqm Duration: 3 Years Number of Designers: 5 Architects Recognitions: Winner of the original competition by Ministry of Exterior First Saudi Building to ever win the WAF 2018 Civic Award Category
Involvement: I was the lead parametric designer to work on the facades design and produce the geometry through Rhino and Grasshopper, to be implemented into Revit. I was involved in the project since the competition design stage, all the way to the Detailed Design Stage.

MASSING SCRIPT: Through the entire phase of the project, I was involved in the process of 3D modeling the entire facades while working closely with a Senior Architect to put everything together. The Housing and Consulate Facades have been developed carefully to respond to the sun exposure while studying carefully how the views in-out will be treated carefully through the skin. The theme of the facades is inspired by the simple hexagones that are generally used in most Islamic patterns to give a modern Islamic classical skin.

Assembly Diagrams At the early stages of the competition, we had countless number of unique panels, but the desire to reduce the cost of the construction has lead me to think of smarter ways to simplify the number of panels. The end result was to choose Five unique main panels not including all of the corner panels that were generated as an outcome from the main family (A Family)

Involvement: I played a major rule on the hospital from the concept massing design stage all the way to the DD stage. My rule has changed depending on the needs of the team through out the project. I worked on the massing initial proposals, prepared the diagrams, presentations, site design, architectural layout, and briefly on the 3D interior design.

Through the early stages of the master plan for Al-Taif Children Hospital, I was the architect responsiable in direct contact with the Project Architect to design the entire masterplan. The entire master plan was designed in 3D Revit in relation to the correct topography to run the estimation costs of cut and fill in the site.

ATRIUM DESIGN: The following design was the outcome of a complex script produced by a Grasshopper script that imitates the flow lines of the rivers and how they intersect to create something playful for the kids on the floor that can be colored to liven the design of the Atrium.

Involvement: I was the initial Lead Architect to work on the project. I was responsible for multiple site visits to the university to make a list for all the machines that will need to be transformed from the old building to the new one. I was also responsible for reviewing and revising the RFP given by the client to produce a realistic Space Program fitting the land given.

Involvement: I was involved on all different aspects of design in this competition. I was primarily focused on the modeling of the shell that host the primary exhibition space; hosting profit Mohammed’s Hijra from Makkah to Al-Madinah, establishing it self as a landmark for Al-Madinah city.

AL-BARRAK APARTMENT BUILDING Company: Al-Kayan Engineering Area: 840 sqm Duration: 6 months Number of Designers: 2 Architects Description: Al-Barrak Apartment building is a residential rental apartment building in Jeddah.
Involvement: I was involved in managing the design with the Architect responsible for the design of the plans, setting up the deadlines with the client, designing the facade, and producing the renderings.
FACADE DESIGN: The facade design was more of collage than anything else. We were instructed by the client to only play with the materials, and opening sizes of the windows to get the resulted design. The followiging design came as an outcome of intersecting square shapes with different materials to break the regular box shape of the front facade.

Involvement: This was a collaboration between my first boss Hani Shata and my self in creating a skyscraper solution for refugees. I was the lead and only digital designer to come up with the massing and do all of the scripting needed. The skyscraper is proposing a new solution for the refugee camps for it to be stacked vertically instead of horizontally. The entire massing and unit geometries were generated through Grasshopper using Kangaroo.

Description: The tent was a pivoting point for mankind's visions towards Architecture, as it allowed us to move freely and explore the different zones of our planet, to chase food and water, or to conquer new lands. The tent was one of earliest free Architectural spaces that formed our culture in a free unbounded context. In Al-Khidir, we explored the idea of the tent and shapes of the sand dunes through the articulation of the overall form of the pavilion.

The major entry to the pavilion is through the fabric weaved part of the tent that will transition you smoothly into the advanced technological part.
The tent is a representation of the journey of technological development through time applied to a tent. Half of the tent is covered with old handwoven fabric, while the other half is stripped away from the fabric to show the skeleton future part of the tent. Structural Skeletons

Description: The finished product stands not just as a lamp but as a sculpture filling the room with it’s unique presences and unique shadows. Using scripting methods on the openings of the lamp generate a harmonic transition between the openings that results in every opening being different from the rest of the neighboring once.

Description: Rook was a collaboration between an artist, Ed Andrews and my self. Rook is the outcome of computational form that was manipulated parametrically through Grasshopper. I was responsible for creating two different parametric tools, the first for slicing and second for patterning.

The original form was designed by Ed Andrews using Rhino and plugged into Grasshopper to be cut and patterned. The first script takes any form given to it, slices it horizontally, radially, flatten it, and label it. The first script takes into consideration the thickness of the steel as that will thickness will indicate the width of the connecting joints. The second script takes all the different flattened pieces, set an offset on each piece and apply a cutting and engraving pattern onto it. The script allow different patterns to be used depending on the desire of the artist.

Organized Chaos is always found in nature all around us but often times we struggle to understand or define it due to our sciences limitations, but once we understand it, analyze it, and apply those principles to design, we start to create a new category of design. A style where geometry break-free from all of the restraining boundaries it ever lived within.

Description: CHAOHEXA 1.0 is the second edition of these wall installation series. This piece explores closely the deformations of simple grid with repulsion and compression forces.
OLD CITIES are often found in cities like Old Jeddah. Where the old city does not follow a specific grid and might seems random at start but actually follows an order that is invisible to the eye that is the result of an evolution happening over a long period of time. The feeling of chaotic old cities is the feeling Chaohexa 1.0 trying to achieve.
Chaohexa 1.0 will have 4,022 unique pieces of mdf glued by hand. There are 26 points in total that controls the deformations of the grid. 15 Repulsion Points and 11 Compression Points. Each point is controlled separately to maximize the customization of deformations.

FORM STUDIES: During our stay in London for the first two weeks, we ran countless studies to see how the script in processing can be manipulated differently depending on the surfaces its projected on, while changing the parameters of the number of points, their speed, and how soon they connect to create a branch.

TEXTILES Description: The following textiles were an experimentation for a new style for an entire collection of furniture pieces for a private client. The images here were suppose to be for the contemporary styled collection that started with simple Islamic hexagon geometry and developed into something much more complex parametrically. The project has been on hold since 2015.
JEDDAH RING Company: Shakl3d Duration: 2-3 months Description: I was hired to recruit an entire team and lead them in designing different pieces of jewelry to be 3D printed and hit the market in 2017. The project has been on hold since the end of 2017.
