January 2012 - June 2012
My Interests My passion towards complex forms and parametric design started when I first attended a lecture by Patrick Schumacher and attended an intensive two days workshop at Modelab in New York City. I believe that passion rapidly developed into an obsession. I do believe in parametricism as a style and I believe parametric design is the future. Scripting if used moderately can be a tool to save time, money and effort. It’s a way of designing that help to re-organize, re-arrange and manipulate forms in ways you wouldn’t be able to do before. Parametric and computational methods have opened the world to much more possibilities in design that were not available before. I do try to involve parametric design into most of the things I design or fully design them parametrically. Whether it’s architecture, interior or landscape. Parametric design isn't necessarily used to manipulate complex forms but it can be used to manipulate simpler massings. It’s a way of thinking more than a way of designing. Most of the knowledge I have towards parametric design are all self taught. I have started learning Grasshopper after attending a workshop in NYC by Modelab on my own. I took on a project that was fully designed by Grasshopper on my Senior year of my undergraduate school. The project was a collaboration to create basic tools in Grasshopper that can be integrated with forms imported from Rhinoceros. The tools were to create Radial waffle script that can cut a form, label it and flatten it as well as pattern it. The project was the first project that will be entirely created using parametric processes. It was the start and the push to develop my parametric interests much further. I have introduced Rhinoceros and Grasshopper to the firm that I first worked with when I was a trainee in my second COOP. I have brought that knowledge back after graduation and continued to implement it into almost every single project the firm has worked on. I have been the only person who have ever introduced Grasshopper to Edge Architects. I have been pushing for greater knowledge and to always introduce new tools to the working places I am in.

PARAMETRIC COLLABORATION
AL-BAHA AIRPORT - SAUDI ARABIA - EDGE ARCHITECTS - CONCEPT A
CONCEPT The first concept was inspired by the geometry of the sharp topography in al Baha city and it’s mountains. The whole entire facade is broken into triangular to reflect the sharp geometry and the way the different surfaces reflect different surroundings around the site. The triangulation of the roof was to help collect water since the airport was 70+ kilometer away from any water sources. PAGE 1

AL-BAHA AIRPORT - SAUDI ARABIA - EDGE ARCHITECTS - CONCEPT A SCRIPTING The below diagram shows the structure that we worked with when linking or adjusting the model in Grasshopper. Those points are always given at anytime, and every-time they change, the entire model will change and be adjusted to the movement of the points.

SCRIPTING There is an integration between Rhino, Grasshopper and Revit in creating this proposal. The site model was done in Revit to be exported to 3D studio max for renderings, while the airport models were done completely in Rhino and Grasshopper. To achieve the complexity in this concept, the whole entire model was fully done in Grasshopper to allow for flexibilities and easier changes since everything was parametrically linked. The top script was done for the model of the Airport as the second one was done to divide the complex triangulated glass facade.

AL-BAHA AIRPORT - SAUDI ARABIA - EDGE ARCHITECTS - CONCEPT A SCRIPTING Concept B was designed with double curvature tensile structure. The same principles from concept A were carried to concept B with bending the roof in ways to capture the rain water. The arches were carefully designed on the back side to allow for the plane bridges to meet the glass as they shrink in scale on the front to allow for the people to enter the airport.

AL MADINAH WELCOMING CENTER COMPETITION - EDGE ARCHITECTS
CONCEPT Al Madina is considered to be the second holiest city in the world to the islamic nation due to, The Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) migrating to the city from Makkah. The city's welcoming centre is supposed to be a learning centre for all visitors, educating them about the past, present, and future of Al Madina. The main gallery of the centre introduces Prophet Mohammad's immigration, which is viewed as a half moon from around the site. The visitors of the centre will start from the underground level where there is galleries portraying the past of Al Madina during Al Hajj period; people will then be lead to the Hijra gallery. The visitors will then be lead to cross a bridge where they will continue their journey to the rest of the museum. PAGE 9

TASKS This competition was led by two people through the concept, design and production face. I was responsible for the competition from the start to the end. I lead the team in scripting using simulation methods for the skin of the middle gallery skin. There was an exploration in creating different Islamic patterns as well as different shapes for the half sphere gallery PAGE 12

SCRIPTING Scripting had a major rule in designing the main gallery space in the center. The studies for the half sphere (Hijra) gallery was studied parametrically as well as dividing the shell into an Islamic hexagon pattern. The hexagon pattern was done using the simulation method with Grasshopper and Kangaroo. The hexagons are all made out of planar surfaces that are morphed and stretched to take the half sphere shape. EVOLO SKYSCRAPER COMPETITION 2015 - EDGE ARCHITECTS - REFUGEE CAMP The major intention behind this proposal is to resolve and respond to the issue of refugee camps . Often when you have a refuge camp, it ends up taking a major space of the country it’s being hosted in. What we tried to achieve in this proposal is a vertical compressed solution to the refugee camp. The tower is not only concerned with resolving the issue of size but also towards the health and safety of tenants. What we are proposing is a flexabile affordable system that can be assembled anywhere in the world. The major component making this system, is the tensile structure. The tensile is assembled and folded prehanded before it gets to the site. The system is created in a way that functions like an inverted umbrella and is easy to deliver and assemble once the steel structure is finished and set in place. The steel cells will be per-fabricated and assembled with a crane on site. The tensile structure will only enclose the outside skin , and the inner faces will open up to each other depending on the function and people’s desires. Our tower was focused towards Al Zaatari refugee camp that is located in Jordan. Its being occupied with over 81,000 people as of July 2014. Its about 1.3 sq mil. It was founded in 2012 after the Syrian crisis war. Its population started with 15,000 as of 2012 and grew more than four times as much in 2-3 years. With everything happening around the middle east and most of the world, a new urban solution is needed to resolve the refugee camps criss we are having today. PAGE 17
UMBRELLA ANIMATION SCRIPT
The tower is made with a Weire phealon structure. The entire tower has two different moulder steel frames, dodecahedron and tetradecahedron. Both moulders nest and tessellate together to create the Iconic massing of the tower. The chosen platonic solids aggregate horizontally and vertically to merge into The Refugee Skyscraper.

MASSING CONCEPT The whole massing of the consulate and it’s residential/school were merged into a single massing that is broken by the use of different patterns and materials. The consulate is the bronzed building extruded at the east side while the housing plays as a connecting mass piece between the school and consulate. PAGE 21

CONCEPT The major concept for the complex and landscape was inspired from the old city of Riyadh. The team has traced some of the older plans and used it as a massing predicable in the consulate complex . The massing has developed to be a much more simple mass, while the old city of Riyadh urban fabric traces were applied to the landscape of the complex. PAGE 22

SCRIPTING The entire facades of all the different zones in the complex were parametrically designed using Rhino and Grasshopper. All the different patterns were inspired from classical Islamic patterns that focuse on using triangles and hexagons. The housing and school complex follow similar patterning. We created three different scripts, one for the hexagon pattern, the other for the triangles and the final one was for the massing studies done earlier. PAGE 28
ROOK - COLLABORATION WITH ED ANDREWS - 5TH YEAR CONCEPT Rook was a collaboration between an artist, Ed Andrews and my self. Rook was designed fully by Rhino and Grasshopper. The original form was designed by Ed Andrews using Rhino and plugged into Grasshopper to be cut and patterned. The first script takes any form given to it, slices it horizontally and radially, flatten it and label it. The second script takes all the different flattened pieces, set san offset on each piece and apply a cutting and engraving pattern onto it. The patterning was designed and scripted by me while the final sculpture was fabricated fully by Ed Andrews using CNC steel cutter/engraver. The project was my first real collaboration and the first time I ever use Grasshopper on an entire project. It started on the final semester of my senior year and continued after graduation PAGE 29

COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN STUDIO - 5TH YEAR STUDIO BRIEF Comprehensive design studio was the only studio that had two people partnering together for the entire design semester. We were given a site in the Boston University campus. We were given a construction method and a material to use for the design of the building, and ours was brick. We started experimenting and researching brick construction methods and vaults specifically.

The Urbanism studio was focused on a new urban development in the city of Sommerville . The site was having a new train stop opening in the orange line of Boston. The urban development was including commercial, residential, offices and public spaces for the city of Sommerville. The Urban development needed an urban node that tied the whole site together and became the center of the new neighborhood.

STUDIO URBANISM - 4TH YEAR STUDIO - OCCUPY WALL STREET URBAN FRAMEWORK
1.
Avenue one is one of the major live avenues in the site that helps to create a barrier against the high way and occupy it with different programs that allows the pedestrian to move the live through it
2. The back street becomes a serves street that feeds into the parking behind
the occupied wall and the goody clancy proposal, while also it connects back to the I-93 and the rest of Somerville city.
3. This avenue takes the goody Clancy main avenue into count and connects it back to the I-93 through the site. This avenue is one of the major two avenues that cuts through the site
2 1
4. This avenue is the most important of all because it is the one that ties
avenue one, two, three and the node together through the middle of the site where the Urban Node is formed. Avenue four begins to connect Assembly Square towards the water front and pedestrian movement to bleed into the water front.

SIDE ACCESSES
The housing studio was focused around designing affordable housing for the community of a city close to Boston. The students were given different plots in the city and every two students had to split the land in two and pick which ever half is more appropriate for their prototype housing design. The parking for both students can be integrated or separate depending on the design of each students.

CONCEPT The concept behind my proposal started as an investigation into vertical apartments. Exploring the idea of each room being on a different level. The idea has developed to be more mature as each complex has 4 different apartments aggregated together. A studio, single bedroom, two bedroom and a three bedroom apartments to host different family needs. Each unit will have a different stone material color.

3D FOUNDATION - 5TH YEAR ELECTIVE - POLYGONS IN MOTION BRIEF This was the very first project I ever designed completely with Grasshopper. It was a sculpture that uses a simple geometry in different scale that intersect and aggregate together. In this piece I used the Pentagon with different voids in the middle while connecting them with wood dowels. The entire piece was designed parametrically while the dowels holes were manually designed.

RESIDENTIAL STUDIO - 3RD YEAR STUDIO - LIEBESNEST HOTEL CONCEPT
Evolution
The site was located in front of the “red light district” in Berlin. The street had prostitution that is considered legal in Europe. It was really difficult for me as a human and a student of architecture to see such tragedy happening. I felt that it was my duty to do something about it. I had to take my rule as an architect to change what is happening in Berlin, hoping to improve people’s life conditions. I decided to create a hotel integrating the prostitution in the surrounding area. The idea was to take the prostitute off of the street and actually put a roof on top of their head. The hotel ended up to be a sex hotel that integrated the prostitution and introduced different programs. The hotel is created from 4 different towers that connect through the lobby where they meet. All the four towers celebrate the sexuality that brings this program together. They all break the boundaries between the bedrooms and bathrooms. Tower A&B hosts the more romantic luxurious hotel rooms while Tower C works more as a one hour hotel, and finally Tower D works as a residential for the prostitute. PAGE 59
