She was the eldest in our family. She was a very devoted and sincere person. Although she lived a very private life and did not like the limelight so much she would work tirelessly in the background whenever there was a function. Whenever assistance was needed with the sick and the frail she would be the first to offer help. She was one of the first group of membership that took baiat during the time of Mr Sydow, the founder of our Movement in South Africa. She will be fondly remembered by the family and the

The Long Night of the Religions: a Report on the Berlin Event People had started arriving early to help with the Long Night. Ahmad Sadat mentioned that the Qadiani Jamaat’s new young imam had come to the mosque and talked to him. Ahmad Sadat asked whether we would go and talk to him. It was agreed that we would not pray behind the Qadianis if it was time for prayer. It was also agreed that we have a ‘head’ for the delegation. One of the UK helpers was asked to be the head and it was agreed that everyone would follow the head’s lead in whatever

he did and sort out any mistakes later. Friday 16th August, 2013 The mosque was opened at Fajr as usual. A UK delegate gave the khutba and led the prayers. The afternoon was spent chatting to people. Some 45 people attended the prayers. Mudassar Aziz (The Netherlands) also arrived, but very late at night. He slept on a mattress on the floor in the living room. Azhar and family had one room.

Ahmad Sadat, Mudassar Aziz, Samira, Aayisha and Dr Gerdien Jonker helped people by answering their questions about Islam, the Mosque and the Mission. People came and asked questions about Islam and everyone made useful contacts who have been e-mailed upon our return.

We had an appointment to see the Qadiani Imam at 17:00 and travelled to the appointment by underground and bus, which took a long time. We got there just after 17:00 and spent a long time there, just chatting.

Those present observed the Azan and the Maghrib prayer, after which Dr Jonker gave a talk on the history of the

Kind behaviour is more likely to lead others to accept us. When we speak, our message is more likely to be received if we impart it in a friendly manner. Unfriendly behaviour on the other hand can lead others to view us negatively, with the result that what we wish to convey is rejected.

Saturday 17th August, 2013 Nasir Ahmad sahib and his grandson Irfaan arrived in the morning. Ahmad Sadat had a meeting with the organizers of the Long Night. This year the book stalls were not set up as the square where this happened last year was being renovated. The Long Night was to start at 18:00. Some people arrived early and we entertained them. The Mosque was vacuum cleaned and tables set. Zubaida and Irfaan were entrusted with the task of counting numbers. Homaira and Zainab were entrusted with making tea for the guests. Azhar and Aayisha stood outside at the door to welcome visitors. Inside Nasir sahib,

The Berlin Mosque Mosque and the Mission. The last person to leave departed at 01:00 and as this was a lady, Azhar accompanied her to the nearest underground station. Christian Fessel, who has taken some stunning photographs of the Mosque, set up his stall displaying these. Sunday 18th August, 2013 One person who had talked to me on Saturday came to see me on Sunday and we had a long discussion.

Kind Behaviour

Therefore, by acting with kindness we attract others, and with unfriendly behaviour we might repel them. As the Quran mentions in 3:159: "Thus it is by Allah s mercy that you (O Prophet) are gentle to them. And if you had been rough, hard-hearted, they would certainly have dispersed from around you." And in 31:18–19, it says: "And do not turn your face away from people in contempt, nor go about in the land exultingly. Surely Allah does not love any self-conceited boaster. And pursue the right course in your going about and lower your voice. Surely the most hateful of voices is braying of donkeys." (From: ‘A Spiritual Note’, Suriname)
