Music Field Trip - Monday

We are fortunate to be able to take students in K-12 to the Hawai‘i Youth Symphony Kaua‘i “Listen & Learn” School concert. Students will leave campus at 8:15 a.m. and return at approximately 10:15. The concert is designed to be not only a musical experience, but an educational one as well. The orchestra will play: The Star-Spangled Banner, La Forza del Destino - Giuseppe Verdi, Polovtsian Dances - Aleksandr Borodin, You’re a Grand Old Flag, America the Beautiful, Selections from Les Miserables, Hungarian Dance #5 - Johannes Brahms, The Thunderer March - John Philip Sousa.

Students in grades PK-5 have one more week to get sponsors for this event. Funds raised go toward playground and PE equipment. The collection days are today and next Thursday, Feb. 14.

ZUMBA® for Robotics This Saturday

In the Wilcox Gymnasium from 9:00-10:30 a.m. $10 includes 90 minutes of ZUMBA®, plus a continental breakfast and a chance to win a dinner for two at the Red Salt Restaurant in Po‘ipu. Dress up red or pink and you might win a prize for the best dressed “Cupid.” Proceeds benefit Kaua‘ibots.

I.S. Chronicles SEVENTH GRADE – Ms. Mariko took her girls homeroom class to the Regency at Puakea to interview the residents. They asked them a variety of questions and are writing biographies of kupuna.

Third graders made this beautiful blanket as an auction donation.

Fourth graders learned how KEO helps Kaua‘i’s homeless. They made care packages and Valentines for them.

Our seniors made a new friend at Makauwahi Sinkhole.

6th graders helped out at the Humane Society for their ho‘okupu.

SENIOR UPDATE – Matthew Cowden has been accepted at University of Redlands in Redlands, CA, and at University of Hawai‘i, Manoa. Joy Claypoole has been accepted at Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon, WI. Steele Bird was accepted at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, CA.

MOCK TRIAL – Congratulations to our Mock Trial team, who won yesterday against Kaua‘i High! Leila Breen, ‘16, was recognized as Outstanding Attorney and Autumn Warnock, ‘15, as Outstanding Witness. The team also includes: Jade Murphy, ‘16, Makenna Olson, ‘16, Brianna Griep, ‘16, April Oo, ‘13, Joy Claypoole, ‘13, Kalena Wong, ‘14, Kira Catlin, ‘15. The team will be heading to the state competition on March 23, at the Hawai'i Supreme Court. INTERACT CLUB – High School students interested in running for office gave speeches during lunch today. Island School’s Interact Club recently formed after a presentation from Rotary Club. It is an international service organization, open to high school students. They will plan and implement service projects.

KINDERGARTEN – The class celebrated the 100th day of school on Wednesday. Each student brought in 100 food items to share for snack. There were many activities emphasizing the number and quantity of 100.

Friday- Formal Friday Student Government will also be selling Valentines on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: roses for $2, stuffed animals from $5 - $7, and homemade Candygrams from Na Pua Keiki saw lots and lots of whales on 50¢ - $1. their expedition this week. Middle School Monday- White Out Day SEVENTH GRADE – In Boys Tuesday- Twin Day Homeroom, students are creating scenario-based skits demonstrating the Wednesday- Pajama Day Thursday- Pink and Red Day differences between assertive, passive Friday- Formal Friday and aggressive communication styles. SPANISH – Students are having a Middle School dance on Friday, February 15, in the Frear, from 6:309:00 p.m. The theme celebrates the season of Carnival. Students are encouraged to dress up in Carnival costumes (dress code rules apply). Permission forms will be available starting next week. STUDENT GOVERNMENT – School Supplies 4 Africa are still being collected in bins located on campus. See January 24th’s PC for more information or call AJ Ort at 808-634-1402. Tomorrow is the last day to contribute. VALENTINES CELEBRATIONS – Students in grades PK-5 will celebrate on Valentine’s Day with a party organized by their room parents. High School and Middle School students will celebrate with a Spirit Week, organized by their student government representatives. They are invited to dress up as follows: (Please note, students choosing not to participate are expected to wear logowear to school. SECOND GRADE – The class celebrated cultures from around the world with presentations on a country of their choice. Today they held their annual Around-the-World Festival with international food, costumes, games and dancing. ART – Kaua‘i Museum’s annual Art Festival for K-5, opened with a good showing from our students who are taking art this trimester. The exhibit will be there for three weeks, through Friday, February 22nd. The Kaua‘i Museum is located across the street from First Hawaiian Bank on Rice Street in Lihu‘e. It is open from 10:00 to 5:00 Monday through Saturday. The following students have work in the exhibit: kindergarten: Kahi Apao, Athena Errico, Mary Magoun, Misa Mycynek, Ahanu Truong, , first grade: Michael Fitzgerald, Zachary Ing, Kaili Kaui, Amelina McDonald, Connor Tavares. Parent Association PA Enrichment Grant

Congratulations to the following groups whose projects were awarded $100: The 3rd Grade Class - towards an extra night at the Polynesian Cultural Center on their annual O‘ahu trip. Middle School VEX Robotics Club for t-shirts to wear to the competition on O‘ahu this month. Middle School Science Olympiad team for t-shirts to wear for the state championships in March.
