Spring Portraits Taken on March 14th
Lifetouch will be taking student portraits on Wednesday, March 14. Picture Day forms are being distributed by homeroom teachers and offer various posing options. All students will have their photographs taken and will receive picture packets 2-3 weeks afterward. Families who choose to purchase them will be able to select the entire package for $45, or order by the sheet, at $13 each. Please email Alice at alice@ischool. org if you have any questions.
Got Wine Bottles?
The auction decoration team is collecting clean, empty wine bottlesj, preferably with the label removed. They need about 150 of them! Please bring them to the front Office as soon as you can. Many thanks!

Junior Golf Registration Date Extended
The registration deadline for the 2012 season has been extended to Friday, February 24, 12:00 noon. That’s tomorrow! Please register at www.kjga.org ASAP to ensure your participation in Kaua‘i Junior Golf for the coming year.

Another Jogathon Success!
It was a great day at Po‘ipu Beach Park last Friday. Along with Jackie and Nathaniel’s expert organization, an impressive number of parent volunteers showed up to help. There are too many people to thank individually, so a big Mahalo goes out to all of you who came and made this event run so smoothly. The final tally will be posted when all the donations are accounted for.

I.S. Chronicles ART– A photograph taken by Sarah James, a senior, was one of thirteen pieces chosen as a semi-finalist from Hawai‘i’s Second Congressional District. Her photograph, and the work of all of the semi-finalists, will be displayed at the Hawai‘i State Capitol from March 1, through April 1. Finalists will be announced on
and be recognized for their artistic talents. Congratulations, Sarah! HAWAIIAN STUDIES – Hawaiian Studies students are learning all about the Kukui tree. The first graders learned to make Kukui leaf lei by tying them in the hīpu‘u (daisy Chain) style. (See below) It’s wonderful having so many Kukui trees on campus for projects like this.

DIGITAL MEDIA – Four students and our Digital Media teacher, Nathaniel Evslin, attended an advanced workshop involving techniques and strategies in the production of videos. This workshop was presented last weekend by the Hawai‘i Creative Media Team, which consists of media teachers from around the state. Students who attended were: Jacob Dysinger, ‘15, April Oo, ‘13, Lila Detreaux, ‘13, and Teddy Rose, ‘12.

“Around the World In 8 Plays” Annual Fifth Grade Play Opens Next Weekend

around the world and explore forgotten myths and unusual legends in a series of fast-paced and hilarious tales. The audience will be guided by a band of roaming gypsies, from Africa, where a young girl dives into the river and meets an old woman with only one arm and one leg, to the Russian countryside, where a poor orphan must defeat three witches who stole his grandfather’s eyes. Always quirky, and sometimes bizarre, these tales are filled with magic, mystery, and morals. This show is appropriate for all ages. Island School’s energetic fifth grade performers are sure to bring a huge smile to everyone in the audience.
