Missing School: A Message from Administration

Taking your child out of school causes students to miss important learning that cannot always be replaced. This can cause students to get seriously behind in their classes and can be overwhelming. When emergencies arise, it can become necessary for your child(ren) to miss school for an extended period of time. While disruptive for families, these situations can’t be avoided. On the other hand, arranging trips and visits when school is in session should be avoided. Scheduled breaks and long weekends occur throughout the year and are positioned to give families regular opportunities for vacations. We encourage parents to take advantage of these, rather than causing their child to miss class. Doing so will maximize your child(ren)’s learning experience at Island School. When an extended absence is unavoidable, there is a procedure in place to help students and teachers deal with this in the best way possible. Should this occur, please fill out the Notice of Extended Absence form (see page 7) and return it to the Office as far in advance as possible so arrangements can be made.

Kaua‘ibots Return with Creativity Award

The Kaua‘ibots walked away from this year’s FIRST Robotics Regional Competition in O‘ahu with the Creativity Award and great experiences. The scouting team was influential and gave Kaua‘ibots an advantage for going into each match. Above all else, everyone gained the experience of working under pressure and maintaining a professional attitude about it.
