Summer Job Openings On Campus

Mike Goto has announced two openings for summer hire work at Island School for high school students. Work consists of painting, washing, scrubbing, polishing, etc. Hiring will be done on a first come, first served basis. Pay depends on work experience and history. Must be able to work hours as assigned, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. each weekday except holidays, from June 17 to August 9. Contact Mike at mike@ischool.org to apply.

“Doctor Who” On Stage Next Weekend

Middle School Drama is in final preparations for their stage adaptation of Doctor Who. The show runs Friday, May 17, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 18, at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Admission is free; donations are accepted.

Save the date! KIF Voyager athletes and their parents are invited to dinner and a recognition assembly on Friday, May 31. Tickets and more information are forthcoming.

Orientation Meeting for Parents of 8th Graders

May 21, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Designed to inform families and ease the transition from middle to high school. Adie Siebring will talk about how to build a strong transcript and GPA, as well as earning credits for graduation.

Homework expectations and successful time management strategies will also be addressed. Find out about the community service requirement, sports, clubs, the use of technology, and the importance of consistent attendance.

KIF TENNIS – The 2013 season has just come to a close on the Kohala side of Hawai‘i Island. Coach Ernie Blachowiak has this to report: “It has been an interesting and exciting season. This season started in February with a large turnout of new players (especially on the girls side) and the hope and promise that accompanies new beginnings. Our first matches were played in March and as each week rolled by a couple of things became clear: one, that our girls team would compete for a KIF championship this year, and two, that sophomore Davis Huffman would compete for a KIF singles title. As the season wound down in April, Voyager girl’s tennis was tied with the Kaua‘i High Red Raiders for first place (with a win over the Red Raiders in our only meeting). Davis was seeded second in the KIF Qualifying Tournament held at Kiahuna Tennis Club. Davis qualified for the State Championships, losing in the best match of the tournament, an exciting three set affair, while girls captain, senior April Oo and her partner, freshman Alex Obert, also qualified by reaching the final in their event.

All three of our players represented Island School very well on and off the court at the State High School Tennis Championships and I can only add how proud I am of the entire team. I would like to express my appreciation to parents, students, faculty, and

THIRD GRADE – The Best Trip in the World, by Spencer Summerhays.

Last week my class and I went to O‘ahu. I had the best time in my life! I loved learning about volcanoes, Hawai‘i and the solar system; but my favorite activities that I learned from were ice skating and box car racing.

CHEMISTRY – Students in Conceptual Chemistry determined the molarity of an acetic acid solution by performing a titration using sodium hydroxide.

SPANISH – 7th grade Spanish HONORS GREAT WORKS – Mr. students are creating video projects Bray’s students performed a reading on about the seasons and weather. The Tuesday of the Pulitzer Prize-winning scripts focus on what activities they play, J. B., by Archibald MacLeish. like to do in the different seasons, where they like to go, and what they like to wear. The videos will be uploaded to YouTube and are due May 14th.
