Make it a Strong Finish The Learning Continues!

Let’s face it, the end is in sight. Spring Break has come and gone, as have May Day and many of our overnight field trips. Even trimester 3 midterms are over. So what’s left?

Fourteen full days of instruction! That’s 25% of the trimester.

Parents - try and remember what it was like for you when you could see summer vacation around the next bend. But now it’s your children’s education and the goals you have for them at stake here. Be proactive. Here are some tips: Attendance is Important: Be wary of statements like, “We’re not doing anything in class this week,” or “It’s OK of I miss school today.”Teachers do not let up simply because the end is near. In fact, teachers tend to ramp up their expectations. Let your children know that they should plan on coming to school up to the last day. Keep Your Standards High: Stay on top of homework and grades and expect the same quality you expected all year.

Make School a Hot Topic: Keep up the conversation about school at home. Ask open ended questions like, “What deadlines are coming up at school?” and “How did your presentation go today?” When summer plans are discussed, make sure their current undertakings aren’t forgotten. Watch for signs of Senioritis and Summeritis: Are they staying up late? Is it hard for them to get going in the morning? Your children still need a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast so they can take full advantage of instruction. Stay Informed: Read the Parent Connection and check RenWeb to keep up with final exam dates and due dates for special projects.

Stay in Touch: Your children’s teachers are here to help. Let them know if you see a problem.
