MY LIBRARY

Registration opens March 15.

See back cover on how to register.

FROM THE DIRECTOR In November 2018 the library launched a customer service survey designed to evaluate members’ overall impressions of the library. More than 1,337 responses were collected and 1,045 people left comments such as these: “I really like when I got to the library and the parking lot is full and inside there are lots of people of all ages and ethnicities using the facilities!” “ITPLD does a great job of providing a full range of resources to the community. It has given me the opportunity to learn more about the foreign policy of our country and the implications of it for my daily life through the Great Decisions discussion group.” Positive comments like these tell us we are on the right track with the services and programs we offer, but we also receive great feedback with areas where we need to improve. One area for improvement that emerged from the survey was related to our print collection. We heard from our members that they would like the library to offer more copies of newer titles and faster access to older titles for check out.

As the library explored ways to expand the breadth and depth of the collection, it looked to the possibility of joining a consortium, which is a group of libraries who share a catalog, greatly increasing the number of titles available for check out without having to request an interlibrary loan. In December 2018, the library board of trustees approved the library’s move to join CCS, a consortium of 27 libraries. When we join the consortium, members will have the option to search the Indian Trails catalog only or to expand the search to all consortium libraries. The item you are searching for may be housed at Northbrook or Lincolnwood library, but when you request the material it will be sent to and placed on hold at Indian Trails Library. The advantage to members is there is access to a greater variety of material without having to submit an interlibrary loan request. This year, the majority of work on migrating to a consortium will be behind the scenes, with a goal of being live by the end of the year. We are excited about what this change will mean to our members and look forward to sharing more news in the future.

Brian D. Shepard, Executive Director

FOUNDATION

MEET THE FOUNDATION Neil Holman As a longtime resident of Buffalo Grove, Indian Trails Library has played a major role in my life and the life of my family for over 35 years. From storytime when my kids were young to studying for tests through their school years. . . from attending used book sales to the delight of discovering great books to read, we’ve relied on the library. Serving on the Foundation Board of Directors is a way I can give back.

Your Generosity Made This Possible Through the ongoing donations of our members, the ITPLD Foundation has funded • Nine sewing machines for classes • Expanded Reading Garden • Free books for the K-12 reading programs • Launch Pad On the Go Kits • Used Book Sales • Enhanced Giving Garden • New books for a small Illinois library The January 12 & 13 Used Book Sale raised $2,700 that will be used to purchase items for the library. We could not have done this without the many volunteers who helped at the sale, and the hundreds of book buyers who came to the sale. Thank you!

In Memory of Pam Dorband Pam Dorband, a former Foundation director, passed away last year after a brief illness. Pam worked for the Wheeling/Prospect Heights Chamber of Commerce and volunteered her time for many organizations. An avid embroiderer, Pam enjoyed spending time with daughter Deann Gerber, and granddaughter Kennedy in the Launch Pad. On January 11, the chamber announced a donation to the Foundation in Pam’s honor. The library will be purchasing an embroidery kit for our Launch Pad on the Go collection.
