MY LIBRARY
Join ITPLD staff for the One Book, One Community read, Love and Other Consolation Prizes by Jamie Ford. Details on page 3.
FROM THE DIRECTOR
I
n June 2017, the library was one of two libraries nationwide to receive a generous $100,000 grant from EBSCO Information Services, a large library resource provider, to install solar panels on the library’s roof. In September 2018, 60 panels were delivered and installed, and in early November, were officially turned “on.” Once the panels are operational, the library will install a meter on the first floor where members can see current power usage and consumption, as well as carbon dioxide avoided.
2
The library submitted an application for the grant shortly after it reopened its main library following a $14.3 million dollar renovation and expansion. In addition to the solar panels, the library installed all LED lighting, a green roof and geothermal wells. The original building was all electric and the cost savings in the new building was nearly 30 percent in heating and cooling even with a 30 percent increase in overall building size. Embracing green energy was an objective when the library renovated its main building, and in doing so, we hope to be an example to other buildings in our community.
