A
ugust marks the start of our fifth month in our new library - and what a busy five months it’s been! Our staff has been thrilled to see and hear the responses of our members when they walk into the library. One of the things that excites us is learning how the new spaces and services are igniting the imagination of our members. We see people discovering their creativity in craft programs and children exploring learning through play in our Early Learning Activity Area in Youth Services. The overall support from our community has been tremendous and we continue to see high usage of the library by our entire community but we still see room for growth. In fact, approximately 70% of our population has a library card, but we’d like to be overachievers and go for 100%! With the start of school just around the corner, I encourage you to take full advantage of all that your library has to offer. If you don’t already have a library card, September is National Library Card Sign-up Month and now is the time to get a card for your soon-tobe kindergartener or yourself. I know some people think a library card is obsolete in today’s internet-connected world, but not true.
Here are just five FREE things you can do with an ITPLD card:

Download the RBdigital (formerly Zinio) app and read your favorite magazines from your phone or electronic device.

Download or stream a movie to keep your children entertained while on vacation.

Take home an Early Literacy iPad Kit because reading begins with play.

Borrow a HotSpot Mobile Wi-Fi so you are connected wherever you go.

will ignite your imagination.
FOUNDATION Q & A What does the Foundation do? The Foundation raises money that supports initiatives of the Indian Trails Public Library. What has the Foundation funded in the past? This year the Foundation donated $9,000 to the library to purchase books to be given away at high school and youth book clubs throughout the year. We also purchased the bricks for the expanded Reading Garden. How can I get involved with the Foundation? We’re glad you asked! • Make a monetary donation • Donate used books in good condition for the book sale • Volunteer to serve on a committee • Serve on the Foundation Board of Directors Who can I contact for more information? Curious about which books and movies our staff love and recommend? Browse our two new staff favorite displays and get inspired to explore a new genre or author. Our book display is located on the first floor near the new books, and our DVD and Blu-ray picks are on the second floor near the A/V material. Selections rotate frequently, so check back for more!
PHOTO CONTEST
Why do you love the library? All ages. Send us one high resolution photo of you in your favorite spot or with an activity or resource you enjoy at the library. Email your photo to social@itpld.org with the subject line “Photo Contest”. Be sure to include your name, city and a brief explanation of your photo. Library staff will choose their favorite submission to be featured in the Oct/Nov newsletter and the winner will be contacted via email to pick up a $10 Panera giftcard. All other photo submissions may be shared on the library’s social media. Last day to submit a photo is August 20.

Meet us in The Launch Pad where we’ll use button maker machines to create custom magnets to snazz up a locker or fridge. Materials provided. R DIY Lab: 3D Printing Thursday, August 24, 7-8 pm Grades 9-12. Join us in the Training Lab to explore the world of 3D printing at the library. We'll learn all about the library's 3D printers, including how to find models online and submit them for printing. Each participant will be able to submit one 3D design to the library for free printing. R
