COMMUNITY READ
2020
O
ne Book One Community (OBOC) is an annual reading program that brings thousands of readers together from three of our north Chicago suburbs, to enjoy literature by encouraging them to read the same book at the same time. This program creates value for taxpayers as a result of our partnership with Cook Memorial and Vernon Area public libraries. Collectively, our three communities work together to maximize taxpayer resources within a broad suburban area that shares geographic borders. Our partnership has paid off in many ways and I am delighted to share that our library, along with Cook Memorial and Vernon Area libraries, will receive the Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award recognizing the success of this program with our members. The award will be presented on October 22, during the 2019 Illinois Library Association’s Annual Conference. OBOC will soon enter its fourth year. Hundreds of copies of the selected book will be distributed into our community through giveaways and print, audiobook and e-book checkouts.
ONE BOOK ONE COMMUNITY
OPEN HOUSE
Sunday, December 15, 12-2 pm Stop by the library to celebrate this year’s One Book, One Community read, enjoy live entertainment by Laura from Tri-L-Co Music and pick up a copy of Circe, by Madeline Miller. Follow Circe, the banished witch daughter of Helios, as she hones her powers and interacts with famous mythological beings before a conflict with a vengeful Olympian forces her to choose between living in the world of the gods or the mortals. Enjoy refreshments and register for OBOC programs. Free copies of the book will be distributed while supplies last. NR OBOC is a partnership with Vernon Area Library and Cook Memorial Library.
Join us on Sunday, December 15, for the launch of this year’s program featuring Circe by Madeline Miller. Our journey will continue into the new year as each library presents unique events that complement the theme presented in this year’s book. We look forward to seeing you at the open house and joining us to make the program a success again this year.
