NEW CATALOG A new way to search begins October 22

ITPLD joins a consortium of 26 area libraries. Details inside!

DIRECTOR’S COLUMN

NEW AT YOUR LIBRARY

New Catalog

Coming October 22 Indian Trails Library is joining Cooperative Computer Services (CCS), a group of 26 area libraries that share an online catalog and member database. What this means for you

Indian Trails Library Executive Director Honored Brian Shepard, executive director, was named Librarian of the Year by the Illinois Library Association. The award recognizes a librarian’s distinguished service and leadership in Illinois libraries. During his tenure at Indian Trails, Brian led a successful $14.3 million building renovation, including securing a $100,000 grant for the installation of solar panels.

• See all items at ITPLD and items owned by the other libraries in CCS in the catalog. • ITPLD cards are automatically registered at all CCS libraries. • Pick up and return most materials to any CCS library. • Request items from CCS libraries directly through the catalog and pick up at Indian Trails Library. • More exciting changes coming!

Next steps The transition to the new catalog may take up to five days to be fully functional. During that time, many features, including holds and renewals will not be available. Materials may still be checked out, but no materials will be due. Information will be posted regularly at the library or sign up for the library’s e-news on the website.

Brian co-chaired the rewriting of “Serving Our Public: Standards for Illinois Public Libraries”, a valuable resource for all public libraries. He also served on the steering committee of and mentored library staff through Elevate, the Illinois Libraries Leadership Program. Brian serves as the current ILA Board Treasurer, co-host of an ILA Legislative Breakfast and treasurer of the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club. He will be honored at the Illinois Library Association conference in October.

FOUNDATION BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION RAISES MONEY FOR LIBRARY

Last fall Foundation board member Nina Strezewski celebrated a milestone birthday and decided to create a fundraiser on Facebook to help raise money for Indian Trails Library.

Do you have a big event coming up? Consider setting up your own fundraiser on Facebook and designating the Foundation for the Indian Trails Library as your designated charity.

“I’ve never done anything like this before, but it was so easy on Facebook,” Nina said. By the end of her birthday month, Nina’s Facebook friends had donated $446 for the ITPLD Foundation. “My friends were so supportive for a cause near to my heart,” she said. “I was able to thank each of them individually for their donation.”
