The Idea Betsy Johnson is a world renowned designer whose style can be described in a variety of words. The words edgy, rock, grunge, and glam all come to mind. When doing a design based on this particular designer, it was important to capture all the feeling of those words, while still keeping in mind the idea of a wedding.

The design The design for this wedding is centered around bold colors, animal print, and the glitz and glam that is Betsy Johnson. The colors used here were hot pinks, black, blue, aqua, and yellow. The centerpiece for this design utilized hot pink roses in a series of vases, with hot pink and leopard ribbon, on a glam style service tray. This was surrounded by black and pink plates on a pink table cloth with black napkins.

Bride and Bridesmaid Of course the central part of almost any wedding is the bridal gown. In this case, the dress was a Betsy Johnson dress that is stylish, glamorous, and fun. The bride had metallic silver shoes to help make the whole outfit “pop. She also had a handmade birdcage veil that is easy for anyone to do. The best way to go about it is to order a kit. This will give the proper materials and instructions. It starts with a plastic clear hair comb and Russian netting in the color of your choice. In this case the color was yellow. Take a length of clear plastic thread and secure it to one end of the comb. Then thread the thread around the comb and through the netting. Once finished, secure the other end to the comb. Now the veil can be trimmed to the appropriate length. We added a great hot pink DIY flower hair clip to the veil. Finally, the bride was accessorized with some tasteful yet glamorous jewelry to tie the whole design together. The bridesmaid was dressed in a short, blue, bell shaped dress that was also stylish and fun. Her accessories include some fabulous jewelry and a DIY flower hair clip.

DIY Flowers

The Cake

First, cut out concentric circles of poly-satin fabric that is the color of your choosing. In this case, the flower was done in blue. Using a lighter, or heat gun, heat the edges of the fabric pieces to make it curl. Then use fabric glue or a hot glue gun, begin gluing the layers of fabric together, starting with the largest and working toward the smallest. Now glue the flower to some felt. Attach the felt to the clip and ornament the middle of the flower with anything of your choosing; in this case we used a blue jewel. This same process was used on the bride’s hair accessory as well as the flower on the bridesmaid dress.

The cake, made by ultimatefakecakes.com, was a fake cake covered with fondant. It featured a black design on white fondant accented with black feathers and pink ribbon. A fake cake is a great idea when budget is a concern. You can have a small section with real cake for the traditional, cutting of the cake and have sheet cakes for your guests. This way you can get an elegant cake and still save money.

The Venue The location that was used for this design is the beautiful Merion Tribute House. This location is a gothic designed war memorial located in Merion Station, PA, just outside of Philadelphia.

Bouquets

Instead of a traditional bouquet, the bride is carrying a pink feather bouquet with sparkling flowers. The bridesmaid is carrying a black feather bouquet with sparkling blue flowers.

Stationary The stationary for this wedding design is a twist on the traditional as well. It is a mix of modern, glam, and gothic. The base of the design mixes black, pink, and animal print. It also uses a gothic style font. The print is mounted on a sparkling black backdrop.
