Our inside pages feature stories on ‘Party Hunt’, a discovery platform for music events, venues and artists in Goa, Codanto, a leading provider of billing and POS software, and ‘AnyTime Mechanic’, a startup which provides on-call repair and towing services for vehicles in North Goa. We have also covered the story of LoveChange®, a unique sustainable fashion brand run by Dhirta Rikhye, a jewellery designer from Delhi who shifted base to Goa and started the brand in 2018.
Guest write-ups on ‘Branding’ by marketing guru Rohini Gonsalves and the ‘The Importance of Investing Early’ by Certified Financial Planner Manalee Vernekar also feature in this month's issue of our e-magazine.
The tourist season is here and the first international Cruise ship of the season, Viking Mars, arrived in Goa last Wednesday and docked
at the International Cruise berth of Mormugao port. The passengers of the cruise were greeted with flowers and welcomed by playing the traditional music of Goa. A large number of taxis also gathered at the port town, to make the commute of the tourists easier. The cruise started from Norway and sailed to Dubai and Mumbai, before arriving in Goa.
Also, earlier this month, Aeroflot, the flag carrier of Russia began operating flights to Goa from Moscow. Aeroflot operates flights 3 times a week from Moscow to Goa. This will definitely help boost the tourism sector in Goa. The Mopa International Airport is all set to start operations from next month. The airport is due to be inaugurated in mid-December by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Many international and domestic carriers have approached the airport authorities seeking landing slots at the airport at Mopa.
We hope you enjoy reading this month’s issue of our magazine. Do share it with your friends all across the world.
Until next month, cheers!

Introduction
Goa, the tiniest state on the western coast of India, boasts golden pristine beaches, palmfringed avenues, flavourful food, delicious Portuguese-influenced sweets, and warm, hospitable people. Also known as the Ibiza of India for its partying. A tropical paradise of flora and fauna, from the very famous 'almi' (mushrooms) endemic to its forests, that grow only on the red mud anthills, to the solar prawns that are fished immediately after the monsoons, Goa is unique. Tourists are also attracted to Goa for its cultural heritage - from the famous old Portuguese churches like Se Cathedral in Old Goa, the 16th Century Safa Masjid in Ponda and Shree Mangesha Temple in Mardol, the legendary Arvalem or Pandava Caves where the Pandavas of the Mahabharat fame lived, to its two unique festivals - Carnival and Shigmo. Goa plays host to many festivals - the International Film Festival of India that promotes cinema, the Serendipity Art Festival, Sunburn Music Festival, The Grape Escapade to name a few. To showcase this varied heritage of culture, art, tradition, food, and people, in 2015 ItsGoa was born. The main aim was to make it the premier portal for all things Goa. We were able to showcase Goa like never before. Soon our blogbased website transcended the virtual space, with the ItsGoa magazine – a sought-after resource for visitors to Goa from countries like Norway, Germany, UK, USA, UAE, etc.

Driving Change through Love
ArticleDriving Change through Love
LoveChange®, a sustainable luxury clothing brand, thriving in the fashion industry using eco-friendly and sustainable methods, manufacture its products using organic, ethically sourced fabrics dyed using natural-herbal dyes. The firm started its operations in the year 2018 in Goa. The entire LoveChange® team is built in Goa and consists primarily of people living within Goa. At the helm of affairs of this unique venture is its founder Dhirta Rikhye. Dhirta, who also serves as the creative director and head designer of LoveChange®, is a trained jewellery designer.
A Delhi-ite by birth, she moved to Goa in 2015 in search of inspiration, a clean environment, and a genuine human experience. She was happy to find an abundance of all these things. More importantly, the love and support from the Goan community have been uplifting to her. She lives in Porvorim - home to her and her design studio.
The Inspiration Behind Starting LoveChange®
Dhirta started her career at the age of twenty-two. She has worked for over fifteen years in various design and export houses in and around Delhi. During her career, she noticed the devastating impact fast fashion and the entire fashion industry, in general, have had on the local ecology and the environment. An extensive study of the fashion world by Dhirta led her to observe some dark facts about the fashion industry, especially how harmful the fashion industry is to the planet. She saw that the fashion industry indulges in wasteful and ecologically harmful practices. She says, "The more I worked, the more I felt drawn to the cause of helping my planet and doing my part in the best way I knew how. I reached a point one day where I had to quit my job. I had begun to read up on sustainability and sustainable practices in fashion and quitting my nine-to-five gave me the time to really dive deep into research and learning." She dedicated two years to studying sustainable fashion and sustainable and eco-friendly practices. Dhirta believed that she could bring about a change by establishing a sustainable luxury fashion brand. She founded LoveChange® in 2017.
The Story Behind the name LoveChange®
"The name: “LoveChange®" is unique, as is the story behind it," she explains: "Change gains value as the
result of the pursuit of a purpose. To fully pursue any purpose, one must first fall in love with it; only then does pursuing a purpose bring about positive and lasting change".
“Our purpose is the pursuit of sustainable business practices by promoting conscious consumerism and conscious capitalism. We lead through a positive attitude toward the fashion business, the environment, and the community. The more we grow, the greater our impact will be." With this purpose driving her, Dhirta aims to build LoveChange® into a fashion empire that gives back to its stakeholders, the environment, and the community equally.
Sustainable Practices Followed At LoveChange® LoveChange® prides itself on the fact that they follow practices that are ethical and sustainable. The materials they use to manufacture their products are certified hand-made, eco-friendly, sustainable, naturally dyed, and chemical-free. The designs are produced in small batches, helping prevent overconsumption and unnecessary wastage. Their packaging bags are made from upcycled fabric, thus keeping up with their policy of minimum-to-zero wastage. The dyes used in manufacturing
Website: www.itsgoa.com
LoveChange® products are 100% natural and Azofree. No harmful chemicals are used in their fabric dyes, thus ensuring zero contamination of the soil and water bodies.
"The traditional factory model invariably leads to exploitation. Tailors and workers work long hours in unhygienic and harmful conditions, usually living away from their families. At LoveChange®, we consciously work to ensure that all our tailors, farmers, and other employees associated with us are happy, earning fair wages, working in favourable conditions, and comfortable space."
All the products of LoveChange® are hand-made. The fabrics are hand-woven in Indian villages on traditional handlooms by traditional Indian artisans. The farmers from whom they source their raw materials follow traditional, slow, eco-friendly farming practices that replenish the soil after every harvest and maintain its fertility.
LoveChange® presently focuses on women's resort wear, children's clothing, handmade jewellery, and
home accessories. What makes them unique is their design element and how those designs are brought to life. They have worked with a number of boutiques in Goa and are presently working with ‘Adhvan’ located on the Mapusa-Anjuna road in Assagao, and 'The PaperBoat Collective' in Sangolda. Their products are available online on their website www.lovechange.in along with many other stores and online boutiques, both in India and abroad.
‘reLove’
LoveChange® offers a unique program called ‘reLove’ where people can buy and sell preloved garments from LoveChange®. If a person who has purchased a product from LoveChange® no longer wishes to use it, he can put it up for sale on the LoveChange® website. Similarly, a person can purchase a pre-loved product from LoveChange® that has been listed for sale on the LoveChange® website by another person. This program helps a person cut their carbon footprint.
Website: www.itsgoa.com
Each garment resold saves six times its weight in carbon dioxide. “The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions,” says Dhirta.
Future Plans
“As for the future, the plan is to grow!” says Dhirta. She is happy with the response that LoveChange® has received. Having seen a 200% growth in revenue year-on-year consistently since 2019, LoveChange® has expanded to Bangalore and New Delhi within India and to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the Middle East. They intend to expand as quickly and as far as possible while keeping their ethos of conscious business practices, sustainable luxury, and timeless designs intact.

Codanto is one of the leading providers of billing & POS software in Goa. Based in Panjim, Codanto has been operating since 2011. They went as FabCoders initially, but after an internal reorganization in January 2021, the name changed to Codanto. Comprising of a 20-member team, 9 of whom are located in Goa, the other 11 work remotely. They are proud to have developed projects and software that are currently used in over 16 countries. “One aspect that sets us apart from competing firms is that we love to work on complex projects,” says Remmie, its founder. Their clients love the fact that they can go to them with an idea that would be converted into a working web or mobile app.
Codanto founder, Remmie Azavedo has an extensive experience of over 22 years in the IT landscape. A computer engineer by profession, he spent 12 years in Norway working in different roles such as software developer, project manager, and business analyst. Before restructuring Codanto, Remmie was the CEO of FabCoders. He was also the founder of TaskBoys, an online on-demand ad hoc task service that was the first of its kind in Goa.
TaskBoys was later sold successfully to a group of investors. Remmie has always been passionate about coding and still codes to date. He often takes part in competitive coding competitions as a hobby.
Remmie had some ideas he wanted to work on, which led him to leave his position in Norway and return to Goa to establish his business. In 2011 when he first started, it allowed him to influence Goa's IT environment while employing fellow Goans was an added plus. His company offers various types of services like providing software for billing and Point of Sale (POS), which happens to be their primary focus. Any type of store, restaurant, or outlet that requires billing software can utilize this software. “A significant portion of what we do is the development of custom software to meet each client’s specific needs,” says Remmie.
Additionally, they also offer website design and development as well as iOS and Android mobile app development. They provided billing and POS software to over 1000 clients worldwide of which more than 250 are in Goa. Since 2011, they have completed over 400

Professionals at work at the Codanto office in Panjimwebsites and mobile app projects. They have worked with clients like Pan America, Bosch, Deltin Group, Brunchbites, Marc Brown and Syntegon to name a few. They have worked with clients from various sectors. Codanto has provided comprehensive software for a logistics company with several offices, a meal ordering app, multi-level marketing software, a vehicle tracking programme, and a mock test preparation app are a few of the most intriguing projects they have worked on.
Finding developers in Goa with the necessary skill set has been their only major challenge, because of which they have been compelled to hire remote personnel.
They are training and hiring new personnel who have the necessary abilities.
As for the future, Codanto intends to open a second development office in Pune by 2023. Internationally they already have a sales center in Norway and Australia and they wish to expand into the US market soon. Currently, they have many openings across different roles. You can visit their website or call them to find out if you can be a part of their team.

A mobile app, launched in 2018, Party Hunt is a discovery platform for music events, venues, and artists that allows users to find and promote music events. Founded by Rachit Rawat, a 29-year-old Programmer who is also the CEO of the company, Party Hunt combines the digital marketplace with social networking tools allowing users to easily discover and book nearby parties, party organizers, and artists to promote music events and book performances including finding live music events or getting your events found. “Whether you’re a music enthusiast, venue host, or musician in Goa, this app was made with you in mind,” says Rachit.
Rachit Rawat was born and brought up in a small town in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. He was interested in programming since he was 10 years old. When kids of his age played games like Tic Tac Toe, Rachit was creating games like Tic Tac Tor and Sudoku. He later went on to create an Indian astrological chart compatibility reading software as well. A child prodigy, to say the least, he won numerous quiz show awards and scholarships, one being from the Cambridge & Singapore Ministry of Education at the age of 14. He graduated from IIIT Allahabad in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology. He loves solving technical challenges and has more than 7 years of work experience in the IT start-up industry. Rachit keeps himself occupied even in his spare time with hobbies like reading, travelling, physics, spirituality, dancing, and chess to name a few.
“As a global party destination, ‘Where’s the party?’ is the biggest question for travelers in Goa,” says Rachit. Being part of the global music community, they decided to bridge this huge market gap by bringing in Music and Events which connect people. Thus, a social network platform built around music events will have the most in-person social interaction as compared to any other virtual social network.
Party Hunt offers plenty of features to partygoers. With the discovery filter, users can search for various kinds of parties based on personal preferences. It also provides a map feature that helps locate the nearest party in a map format. It is an open discovery platform for partygoers and for event organizers to upload their parties. Party Hunt also provides marketing and promotion tools for party organizers so more people can come across parties listed by organizers. These marketing plans are as per budget and audience. This app also provides networking tools for artists, fans, and partygoers which makes the app easily accessible and simple to use. Party Hunt aims to build an online marketplace for the music event community. Rachit’s vision is to connect people through dance and music. Parties are where people can have the most entertaining life experiences, this is why they have the highest customer delight in our industry. Music connects people and events bring people together. Thus, a social network platform built around music events will have the most in-person social interactions as compared to any other virtual social network. Some of the major clients of Party Hunt are

Club Cubana, Ukiyo Resorts, La vie en Rose, and Tomato’s Glam & Grills. Party Hunt has been featured in Startups India as one of the top 13 concert companies in India Party Hunt’s business idea was perfect, launching a party-based platform in a happening destination like Goa. Things were sailing smoothly until Covid struck. “Covid was the biggest challenge our company faced”, recalls Rachit.
Covid had hugely affected the inflow of tourists from parts of India which had impacted the event industry and tourism in Goa, which was directly related to their business. There was a lot of uncertainty and confusion about how the season would turn out for Goa. Despite all of it, Party Hunt had the most profitable year in 2021. As remote work was standardized, it was easier for professionals to relocate to travel destinations. After the covid lockdowns were lifted, the travel and event industry
saw an upsurge that resulted in travelers and parties like never before.
“Even the monsoon season has a great turnout despite covid and ongoing situations,” says Rachit. Even if Party Hunt is mostly about Goa, they aim to become a global social network for the music event industry. In the next five years, they envision expanding their operations to five new locations across India and expanding internationally as well, while accounting for an upsurge in their user base of up to 50 million, connecting the entire nation through music and building a strong community that shares similar interests.
To our readers, Rachit would like to say, “It is very crucial to have a strong belief in yourself even before anyone else believes in you. You need to keep yourself motivated by believing in yourself and your vision. It is also very important to have a laser focus on the customer’s pain points, that’s what connects you to your audience.”
Imagine driving around the picturesque locations in Goa and your vehicle breaks down. With no mechanic near you in sight, you may feel helpless. Well not anymore! Now you can avail of the services of a mechanic by dialling ‘AnyTime Mechanic (ATM),’ which provides bike and car mechanic details nearest to you plus arranges to get your vehicle fixed at the earliest.
AnyTime Mechanic is the brainchild of two students
- Aaron Dias and Ian Decosta. It was launched on the 1st of November 2022 at the hands of Laxmikant Parsekar, the ex-Chief Minister of Goa. AnyTime Mechanic provides bike and car mechanics and towing services as well.
How it works is pretty simple: “Imagine your car broke down at a place you know nothing about, you give a call to AnyTime Mechanic or you can even WhatsApp them, and they’ll provide you with the details of the nearest available mechanic.”
“Our priority is the customer and not profits”, say Aaron and Ian, and rightly so as they strive towards providing service first without thinking of profits. Even if all their mechanics are busy, they provide you with some other mechanic whom they haven’t tied up with. That is how dedicated they are to their customers.
Aaron and Ian, both friends for 17 years, decided to start this business.
Ian D’Costa, Co-Founder, AnyTime Mechanicmanages the financial part. On the other hand, Ian Decosta a student of Architecture at Altinho, Panaji, loves vehicles, especially bikes. He owns an NS 200. His forte is understanding vehicles and the customer’s needs on-road among other things.
The primary idea behind starting ATM was to help people. Seeing a lot of people struggling to find mechanics on-road gave them inspiration. “It is particularly difficult for elderly people in case they get stranded in the middle of the road.” Keeping that in mind, they made their service easily accessible by being available with just a phone call or WhatsApp.
Aaron Dias, Co-Founder, AnyTime MechanicAs of now, their service is available in North Goa but they have plans to expand in South Goa in January 2023. They want to learn more about running a business first before expanding, which is a mature way of tackling challenges so that they can prevent mistakes.
Their major challenge has been juggling studies and business at the same time. Handling one is difficult, imagine doing both! Other than that, on the work front, challenges came in the face of managing mechanics and making it affordable for the customers. Being able to manage so many mechanics is challenging to say the least. But by making it costeffective for customers along with ensuring the profitability for the mechanics, they also get a share to expand the business, which is commendable. They started their venture with their pocket money. Their family did come out in support but they wanted to do it completely on their own.
Their primary objective is to help customers. Aaron has reduced the daily costs to a minimum which now enables them to run for months with little to no profit, and they are ready for it.
That is the extent to which AnyTime Mechanic is willing to go just for the sake of customer satisfaction and providing them with proper service.
“It is very easy to plan something and keep it in the books, the real challenge is when you execute it on the field,” says Aaron. He advises people to take the leap and execute the idea they have in their minds. He feels that someone may have the best idea for a business but if they won’t work on it and execute it, it won’t be of any use. He urges everyone to execute the project and work on them. Aaron is willing to provide cost management ideas to anyone who comes to him for advice on how to reduce costs effectively and maximize profits.
As for them, they believe in the power of community and say that if anyone has liked the service they’ve provided, they must spread the word to others about ATM in order to make people aware of the service they provide.
You can reach out to AnyTime Mechanic by calling them or sending a message on WhatsApp at 8605429328.

This fearless approach led him to start his first business right after completing his graduation and now he has built a business in web development. Now Rohir is looking at the next chapter of his life, entrepreneurship. Rohir was never interested in commerce graduation as he knew his interest was somewhere else and not in commerce. When he got acquainted with computers later on in his life, it helped him decide his future path. Despite doing his high secondary in Commerce background he knew his interest was in the stream of Technology. He could not afford a computer which is a must-have for anyone wanting to be a part of the Tech Fraternity. A brand is like a reputation - it is an opinion and that can change. It can either be a good brand or a bad brand. So having a great name is just the beginning of the Brand Strategy.
With the liberalisation of the economy, our country was exposed to brands from all over the world - from apparel to automobiles, consumer goods, electronics and even services and restaurant chains. These brands were not built in a day. It may have taken some meticulously worked out strategy, massive media spends and several years of consistently delivering value to make them the by-word of consumers today. Every great success story began with a modest beginning.
The starting point of a successful brand is its very name. What does the name communicate? Does it resonate with the purpose it serves or the values it embodies? Does the name catch the attention of the current and future customers and/or employees? Does it generate intrigue or interest in the minds of the target audience?
If the name ticks on any of these boxes, it's almost a good brand to start with.
A brand is like a reputation - it is an opinion and that can change. It can either be a good brand or a bad brand. So having a great name is just the beginning of the Brand Strategy. The only way to make a brand a good or big brand is by consistently delivering on the values promised by the brand to its buyers. The way to do it is to start doing what the brand promises exactly the way the consumer understands it or expects it. If the brand promises 'cheapest' then there should not be another vendor offering the same commodity any less than this brand. There are no ifs and buts when it comes to delivering on the brand values.
The brand itself eventually ends up becoming synonymous with its brand values. Finally, the brand needs to be reiterated so many times in the minds of the target market and general public that it has an instant recollect. This is done using a visual aid like a logo or symbol, audio clip or jingle and presented repeatedly via various media channels. Brand Recall is created when a common person can instantly relate the visual or audio cue to the brand. The frequency and timing of the advertisements also influence the impact of the Brand Recall.
Creating a successful brand is not the final end. In fact that's when one needs to be more vigilant to ensure that the brand is protected from fake/
from fake/counterfeits; cheap replicas using similar sounding brand names and even using similar visuals; and one's own complacency in not upholding the inherent/now established values that the brand represents. It is easier to destroy or lose a brand in the din of new brands constantly getting created in the marketplace. Hence, the struggle is maintaining the brand as much as establishing it. It's as fragile as the morning due on the petals of a flower. No sooner does the sun rise than the due evaporates.
A brand may be considered truly successful when it becomes generic to the category. Where that's the only or first name that one thinks of when considering buying that category. Xerox, Colgate, Surf, Bisleri etc are examples of generic brands.
Building a good brand is like boring a hole in a stone using drops of water. The focus is on velocity, frequency and consistency to drive a successful brand strategy.
'Your brand is the single most important investment you can make in your business ' - Steve Forbes
