Goa, the tiniest state on the western coast of India, boasts golden pristine beaches, palmfringed avenues, flavourful food, delicious Portuguese-influenced sweets, and warm, hospitable people. Also known as the Ibiza of India for its partying. A tropical paradise of flora and fauna, from the very famous 'almi' (mushrooms) endemic to its forests, that grow only on the red mud anthills, to the solar prawns that are fished immediately after the monsoons, Goa is unique. Tourists are also attracted to Goa for its cultural heritage - from the famous old Portuguese churches like Se Cathedral in Old Goa, the 16th Century Safa Masjid in Ponda and Shree Mangesha Temple in Mardol, the legendary Arvalem or Pandava Caves where the Pandavas of the Mahabharat fame lived, to its two unique festivalsCarnival and Shigmo. Goa plays host to many festivals - the International Film Festival of India that promotes cinema, the Serendipity Art Festival, Sunburn Music Festival, to name a few. To showcase this varied heritage of culture, art, tradition, food, and people, in 2015 ItsGoa was born. The main aim was to make it the premier portal for all things Goa. We were able to showcase Goa like never before. Soon our blog-based website transcended the virtual space, with the ItsGoa magazine – a sought-after resource for visitors to Goa from countries like Norway, UK, USA, etc.

Dr. Sthita Keni Gurrala, founder of Face Multispeciality Clinic, excels in oral and maxillofacial surgery, combining advanced technology, compassion, and innovation to deliver exceptional, comprehensive patient care.
In the world of healthcare, few individuals stand out for their unique combination of precision, artistry, and compassion. Dr. Sthita Gurrala, the founder and director of Face Multispeciality Clinic, exemplifies this rare blend. Her journey from a passionate student of medicine to a renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeon has been nothing short of inspiring. With a commitment to patient care and innovation, Dr. Gurrala has transformed the landscape of her field while establishing a state-of-the-art facility that integrates multiple specialties under one roof.
Dr. Gurrala’s fascination with the medical side of healthcare began early in her life, but it was the discovery of oral and maxillofacial surgery that truly ignited her passion. Unlike conventional dentistry, this specialty offered her the opportunity to combine precision, artistry, and patient care in unique ways.
She was particularly drawn to the diversity of procedures, ranging from trauma repair to cosmetic enhancements. This broad scope inspired her to establish Face Multispeciality Clinic, a comprehensive center that bridges oral and maxillofacial surgery, dentistry, dermatology, cosmetology, psychiatry, and general medicine.
Establishing the clinic was no small feat, but Dr. Gurrala viewed challenges as opportunities to innovate. Today, Face Multispeciality Clinic is a testament to her vision of combining expert care with compassion, creating a space where patients feel valued and supported.
For Dr. Gurrala, the most fulfilling part of her work lies in the deep connections she builds with her patients. The trust they place in her and the resilience they demonstrate during their journeys are a constant source of
inspiration. She often reflects on the stories of patients who travel long distances, often from underserved areas, to seek her expertise. Their gratitude and feedback not only motivate her to continue improving but also reaffirm the importance of her work in making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
At Face Multispeciality Clinic, Dr. Gurrala performs a wide range of procedures, including facial trauma treatments, jaw fracture repairs, dental implant placements, and minor oral surgeries. While these are routine aspects of her practice, some cases present significant challenges.
Polytrauma cases, for example, require multidisciplinary coordination to address multiple injuries simultaneously. Despite the complexity, advancements in oral implantology, such as bone grafting techniques, have opened new possibilities, allowing her to achieve greater precision and durability in treatments.
Understanding that many patients experience anxiety before complex procedures, Dr. Gurrala prioritizes open communication. She ensures that each patient feels informed and reassured by explaining procedures in detail, often using visual aids such as models or Xrays. The design of Face Multispeciality Clinic further enhances patient comfort by fostering a welcoming and calming environment. This patient-centered approach helps ease anxiety and build trust, ensuring that every individual feels cared for from the moment they step through the door.
The field of oral and maxillofacial surgery has witnessed remarkable advancements in recent years, many of which Dr. Gurrala has integrated into her practice. For instance, TMJ arthroscopy, a minimally invasive technique for diagnosing and treating jaw joint disorders, has revolutionized care for TMJ patients. Similarly, technologies like 3D imaging and digital surgical planning have significantly enhanced precision and outcomes, particularly in reconstructive procedures. Robotic-assisted surgery has also made operations less

invasive, reducing recovery times, while lasers have improved soft tissue management. In dental implantology, advancements in bone grafting and guided tissue regeneration have expanded the possibilities for complex cases.
Dr. Gurrala’s systematic approach to facial trauma and reconstructive surgery begins with a comprehensive assessment, including detailed imaging and medical history reviews.
Minor injuries are managed through outpatient care, but more severe cases require structured surgical protocols and often involve input from multiple specialists. This collaborative approach ensures that treatment plans are tailored to the specific needs of each patient, maximizing both functional and aesthetic outcomes.
Dr. Gurrala emphasizes the importance of proactive measures in maintaining oral and maxillofacial health. She advises patients to avoid risk factors for oral cancer, such as tobacco and alcohol, and to address even minor issues, like a sharp tooth, promptly. For TMJ disorders, managing stress and seeking early treatment can prevent complications. Additionally, she highlights the importance of trauma prevention through the use of helmets and seat belts. For patients requiring tooth replacement, dental implants and fixed dentures offer effective solutions, even for older individuals.
Among the many cases Dr. Gurrala has handled, one particularly stands out. A woman who suffered severe facial trauma after a wild boar attack required complex reconstructive surgery. The all-night procedure, which involved repairing a fractured mandible and addressing multiple injuries, underscored the profound responsibility of her specialty.
Beyond the technical challenges, this case highlighted the emotional and psychological significance of her work in helping patients reclaim their identities. It is moments like these that reinforce her dedication to her field.
At Face Multispeciality Clinic, collaboration with other specialists is a cornerstone of patient care. Dr. Gurrala works closely with medical professionals such as ophthalmologists, ENT surgeons, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, oncologists, and general physicians. Additionally, dental experts, including oral radiologists, orthodontists, prosthodontists, and pediatric dentists, play an integral role in creating wellrounded treatment plans. This team-based approach ensures that patients receive comprehensive care tailored to their unique needs.
As a Fellow of the International Board of Certification of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dr. Gurrala is committed to maintaining the highest standards of care. Her training includes a prestigious travel fellowship at the University of Freiburg in Germany, where she received advanced training in maxillofacial surgery. These experiences, combined with her dedication to ongoing education, ensure that she remains at the forefront of her field, equipped with the latest knowledge and techniques.
Dr. Gurrala is passionate about addressing common misconceptions regarding oral and maxillofacial surgery. One of the most prevalent misunderstandings is the belief that the specialty is limited to the mouth.
In reality, it encompasses the entire face, mouth, and neck, addressing a wide range of complex surgical cases. Additionally, outdated stereotypes about women in surgical roles are being dismantled, with Dr. Gurrala herself serving as a shining example of skill and leadership in a demanding field. She also highlights the interdisciplinary nature of the specialty, which combines medicine and dentistry to deliver effective care.
To those considering a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Gurrala offers words of encouragement. She acknowledges the demanding nature of the training but emphasizes the unparalleled rewards it offers.
Performing complex implant surgery and intra-oral bone grafting
The journey requires dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn. Ultimately, the sense of accomplishment that comes from overcoming obstacles and evolving as a surgeon makes the effort worthwhile.
Dr. Sthita Keni Gurrala’s journey is a testament to the power of passion, resilience, and innovation. Through her work at Face Multispeciality Clinic, she has redefined patient care, combining advanced technology with a compassionate approach.
Her dedication to excellence, coupled with her commitment to addressing misconceptions and inspiring future generations, makes her a true pioneer in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. As she continues to push the boundaries of her specialty, Dr. Gurrala remains a beacon of hope and transformation for her patients.

Dr. Shetye began her career at the Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS), where she worked for two years. It was here that her passion for shelter management and stray animal welfare took root. She emphasizes the importance of history-taking and diagnostic testing to ensure accurate treatment plans. Educating pet parents is a cornerstone of her practice, as she believes in involving them in their pets’ treatment and well-being.

Ayurvedic practitioner
Dr. Aaditi Verlekar integrates Ayurveda with modern practices, focusing on holistic healing, women’s wellness, lifestyle adjustments, and natural products while advocating awareness and accessibility for traditional medicine.
From a young age, Dr. Aaditi Verlekar’s dream was to become a doctor, a passion that took root during her childhood in Goa. She fondly recalls pretending to treat her relatives, offering chocolates as medicine, and imitating the role of a healer.
As she grew older, her fascination with Ayurveda blossomed, driven by its connection to nature and its ancient, side-effect-free methods of healing. Today, as an accomplished Ayurvedic doctor, Dr. Aaditi has been practicing for over five years and remains dedicated to bridging the gap between traditional and modern medicine.
Dr. Aaditi completed her Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya and Research Centre in Goa. This education laid the foundation for her in-depth understanding of Ayurveda. Furthermore, her certification as an internationally qualified yoga instructor, which includes expertise in child yoga, complements her holistic approach to
wellness. She firmly believes that Ayurveda, often misconceived as slow or ineffective, is not only a permanent cure but also a pathway to achieving mental and physical harmony.
According to Dr. Aaditi, Ayurveda’s strength lies in its ability to treat the root cause of ailments rather than merely addressing symptoms. Although it requires time and patience, the results are long-lasting and transformative.
She emphasizes that the natural, unaltered remedies derived from plants and mother earth offer profound healing that modern medicine cannot replicate. For Dr. Aaditi, this is not just a career but a lifelong commitment to educating people about Ayurveda’s efficacy.
Central to Ayurveda are the three Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, which govern bodily functions and psychological aspects. Dr. Aaditi explains that imbalances in these Doshas can lead to diseases and mental health issues.
Her diagnostic process is comprehensive, involving an analysis of a patient’s dietary habits, sleep routines, and overall lifestyle. The process begins with Nadi Pariksha, or pulse diagnosis, which helps identify Dosha imbalances, followed by specific tests for pain management and movement analysis when necessary.
Dr. Aaditi’s treatments extend beyond medications to include Panchakarma therapies —a series of detoxifying treatments designed to restore balance. However, she stresses that these therapies require rest and a willingness to make significant lifestyle changes. Without adopting healthier habits, the effectiveness of Ayurvedic treatments diminishes. Her personalized approach ensures that each patient’s unique body requirements are met, leading to optimal results.
In her clinic, Dr. Aaditi primarily treats women and addresses a range of conditions, including PCOD, PCOS, weight management, skin infections, hair loss, and musculoskeletal pain. She highlights the versatility of Ayurveda, which can effectively treat both minor ailments like the common cold and major conditions such as kidney stones, liver problems, and diabetes. For instance, she recommends simple remedies like a mix of shunti (dry ginger), peepli, and yashtimadhu with honey for colds, while more complex issues like PCOD require detox treatments like Virechan.
Dr. Aaditi’s focus on diet and lifestyle is unwavering. She believes that managing these aspects can eliminate a significant portion of illnesses. Her advice includes adopting practices like drinking water from copper vessels, consuming water half an hour before or after meals, regular tongue cleaning, and incorporating yoga into daily routines. Additionally, she encourages Ayurvedic practices such as using natural herbs like tulsi and ajwain and performing regular oil massages for the body and head.
Despite its many benefits, Ayurveda faces numerous misconceptions. Dr. Aaditi points out that people often view it as slow-acting or ineffective for serious illnesses. Moreover, she believes that poor representation, such as unclean clinics and improper patient care, has contributed to these misunderstandings. To counter this, she ensures that her clinic maintains the highest standards of hygiene and professionalism, providing patients with a positive experience that reinforces their trust in Ayurveda.
One of the biggest challenges she encounters is convincing people to embrace Ayurvedic treatments. Dr. Aaditi’s approach involves educating her patients about the importance of natural healing and the holistic benefits of Ayurveda. She acknowledges that while it may be a tough journey, the rewards of experiencing Ayurveda’s transformative power make it worthwhile.
beginning of child yoga class with a small prayer at Ayurkriti yogashala
Dr. Aaditi’s ultimate goal is to establish Ayurvedic clinics across India, making authentic treatments accessible to more people. She envisions modernizing Ayurveda to meet contemporary expectations while staying true to its ancient roots. By integrating modern conveniences with traditional practices, she hopes to bring Ayurveda into the mainstream and inspire more people to engage with this timeless form of medicine.
For those considering a career in Ayurveda, Dr. Aaditi advises perseverance and dedication. She stresses the importance of understanding Ayurveda’s profound principles and translating them into effective treatments for modern society. For individuals looking to experience Ayurveda, she recommends choosing the right practitioner and clinic, a task made easier with the help of online reviews and social media.
Dr. Aaditi advocates incorporating simple Ayurvedic practices into daily life to promote overall well-being. Her recommendations include following the concept of Dinacharya, an Ayurvedic routine that outlines activities from morning to night. These practices help align the body and mind, creating a harmonious balance. She also highlights the importance of yoga as a complementary practice to enhance physical and mental health.
Other tips include using copper vessels for water storage, consuming herbs like tulsi and ginger, and making lifestyle adjustments like eating at regular intervals and prioritizing rest. By adopting these small yet impactful changes, individuals can prevent many health issues and lead more balanced lives. She also makes her own ayurvedic products like shampoo bars ,other soaps and hair oil.
The clinic has achieved remarkable success in helping women achieve healthy weight loss while also finding a cure for PCOS, which has been a significant accomplishment. Numerous women have shared their inspiring transformation stories, many of which are showcased through videos on the clinic’s Instagram page.
Additionally, the all-natural shampoo bar and hair oil created by the clinic have delivered impressive results. Many users have experienced benefits such as new hair growth, relief from dandruff and itchy scalp, improved hair texture, and overall healthier hair. These products are crafted using pure, raw ingredients, ensuring a completely natural solution for hair care.
tirelessly to ensure her patients receive treatments that not only heal but also empower them to maintain healthier lifestyles. Her commitment to creating awareness and breaking misconceptions about Ayurveda is inspiring, as is her vision to expand its reach across India.
Through her dedication and expertise, Dr. Aaditi Verlekar is not only preserving the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda but also adapting it to meet the needs of modern society. Her journey serves as a testament to the enduring relevance of natural healing and the profound impact it can have on individual lives.

Protein aids hormonal production, stabilizes blood sugar, and prevents imbalances, promoting regular ovulation. Include quality protein sources like fish, eggs, legumes, nuts, and lean meats for optimal reproductive health.
When it comes to reproductive health, many factors come into play, and one of the key influences is diet. Among the macronutrients, protein is often a topic of interest for women looking to enhance fertility or manage their reproductive health. But how exactly does protein affect ovulation, the process where an ovary releases an egg for potential fertilization?
Ovulation is a crucial step in the menstrual cycle, where a mature egg is released from the ovary and is available for fertilization. Hormones like estrogen and progesterone regulate this process, and any imbalance in these hormones can disrupt ovulation. Irregular ovulation can lead to fertility issues, making it essential to maintain a balanced hormonal environment for healthy reproductive function.
Protein plays a significant role in maintaining overall health, including hormonal balance. Hormones are essentially made from proteins, and ensuring your body has enough protein helps regulate the production of essential hormones like estrogen and progesterone, both of which are crucial for ovulation.
Adequate protein intake provides the amino acids necessary for the synthesis of hormones. When your body is well-nourished, it is better equipped to produce and regulate the hormones that control ovulation.
Protein is a key player in stabilizing blood sugar levels by slowing the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream. This can help reduce insulin resistance, which is often linked to irregular ovulation. Insulin resistance can disrupt the production of sex hormones,
leading to conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) where ovulation is irregular or absent.
3. Preventing Hormonal Imbalances:
Low protein intake may contribute to fluctuations in blood sugar and insulin levels, which in turn can lead to hormonal imbalances that disrupt ovulation. For women trying to conceive, a balanced intake of protein can help maintain a steady environment for regular menstrual cycles. The Impact of Protein Deficiency on Ovulation While protein is essential for optimal health, it’s also important to ensure you're not overconsuming or under-consuming it. Protein deficiency can affect ovulation in various ways:
A lack of protein may interfere with the body’s ability to produce essential hormones like estrogen and progesterone. Without these hormones, the ovulation process may become irregular or fail to occur altogether.
Protein plays a vital role in maintaining lean body mass and managing weight. Severe protein deficiency can lead to weight loss or malnutrition, which can negatively impact your reproductive system. For women with low body weight or eating disorders, ovulation may stop completely due to energy deficits, as the body enters "survival mode" and prioritizes vital functions over reproduction.
Low protein intake can also trigger an increase in cortisol, the body’s stress hormone. Elevated cortisol levels can suppress reproductive hormones, thus affecting ovulation and fertility. Chronic stress, exacerbated by poor nutrition, can make it even harder to conceive.
How Much Protein Do You Need for Healthy Ovulation?
The amount of protein required can vary depending on factors such as age, body weight, activity level, and overall health.
However, the general recommendation for most women is about 0.8 to 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight. For example, if you weigh 60 kg, you should aim for approximately 48 to 60 grams of protein per day.
If you’re trying to conceive or looking to balance your hormones, it may be beneficial to aim for a higher protein intake—around 1.2 to 1.5 grams per kilogram of body weight.
This can help support hormone production, manage weight, and stabilize blood sugar levels, all of which are essential for regular ovulation.
To support healthy ovulation, it's not just about the quantity of protein but also the quality of your protein sources.
Opt for high-quality, nutrient-dense proteins that are rich in essential amino acids and other micronutrients vital for fertility.
Fatty fish like, salmon, mackerel, and sardines are great protein sources and rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which can reduce inflammation and support reproductive health.
Eggs are a fantastic source of both protein and healthy fats, which help produce hormones involved in ovulation.
For plant-based sources, beans, lentils, and chickpeas are excellent options. They provide plant protein along with fiber, which helps manage blood sugar levels.
Yogurt, cottage cheese, and other dairy products are protein-packed options that also contain calcium and other micronutrients essential for overall health.
Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds are nutrient-rich protein sources that also provide healthy fats, which support hormone production.
Chicken, turkey, and lean cuts of beef or pork provide high-quality protein that helps support hormonal function. However, one should be aware of the malpractices like antibiotic-containing feeds, hormone injections, etc. used in rearing these animals. These veterinary drug residues can interfere with the hormone production and regulation of the human body when consumed in large quantities and daily.
Protein plays a vital role in maintaining hormonal balance, stabilizing blood sugar, and supporting the overall health of your reproductive system. A well-rounded, proteinrich diet can help promote regular ovulation, which is important for fertility and overall reproductive health. While protein alone won't guarantee conception, it is an essential piece of the puzzle when it comes to maintaining a healthy, balanced body capable of ovulating effectively.
