I am the President of our Homeowners Association in Fl. I heard about Hammerhead Softwash through a friend who had contacted them to clean their roofs. Dedicated to Wellness Dr. Stephen Unger, Florida Wellness & Rehab As a chiropractor, Dr. Stephen Unger focuses his professional attention on backs. However, both personally and professionally, Dr Unger practices giving back every chance he gets!
to Trinity. Dr. Unger is continuously involved in community activities and events, promoting and sponsoring many local causes, such as Trinity’s Relay for Life.
Dr. Unger chose his profession after he was significantly injured in a car accident which resulted in three bulging discs. The treatments administered by a chiropractor helped him avoid drugs and surgery. He went on to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic, Port Orange, FL, where he earned his doctorate in 2006. As a Palmer graduate, he learned several techniques of adjusting that are gentle and effective in treating subluxations, or misalignments, in the spine.
Dr. Unger is a member of the Trinity Rotary Club which offers financial assistance and more to children’s organizations locally, nationally and internationally. He volunteers his time to the Good Samaritan Clinic of Pasco, which provides healthcare to people in need.
Today, Dr. Unger helps his patients and athletes optimize their health and performances through safe, gentle, effective chiropractic care, which includes therapeutic applications and nutritional recommendations to aid in healing. Over the course of his education, he earned multiple leadership and humanitarian awards. On several occasions, he provided humanitarian chiropractic care to the people of Garapoba and Florianopolis, Brazil, and helped raise money for poor orphanages in these cities, assisting them in meeting the standards of orphanages here in the United States. His service did not stop there! He is quite well-known and respected right here in Tampa Bay for the many ways he has dedicated himself to giving back
Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors for Pasco Pediatric Foundation, Inc., which “raises and distributes funds to children and young adults who need assistance with medical, emotional, physical and educational needs not otherwise met by existing federal, state, and local services and organizations in Pasco County.” A non-profit organization, Pasco Pediatric Foundation is beneficiary of the proceeds from the Fall Festival Dr. Unger sponsors each year with many other businesses within the community.

The Gift of Family
“The best Christmas of all is the presence of a happy family all wrapped up with one another.” - William Vaughan The youngest member of our family, Nolan.
Have you ever noticed that each year ends with a gift? Each day throughout the year is a present, the holidays are a gift. They include the gift of family, the gift of friends, and the gift of love. Our homes will be filled with joy, love; laughter and cheer as each one of us celebrate our family tradition of Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa. For me, it’s off to Grandmother’s house we go...spending this special day with the oldest and youngest of my family spanning 100 years of Christmas memories and blessings. What a blessing this year as I celebrate my grandson’s first Christmas and my Grandmother’s 100th. I am so excited to share the family traditions that my grandmother has passed down to my mother, myself, my children and now my grandchildren who will experience it for the very first time. The greatest gift will be watching the magic and wonder through all of their eyes, young and old. I found this poem and wanted to share, I call it “the gift of family”.

Obviously, Dance Extreme Academy is generating great happiness for children and families in West Tampa Bay, based on the size of their enrollment, the number of their students accepted to prestigious dance arts programs, and the continued success of their dynamic dance teams in competition!
This immense level of success has prompted an upcoming expansion of the DEA facilities, which is scheduled for completion in the Fall of 2014. This expansion serves as proof they are reaching high levels of achievement in instruction and performance after only three years in business.

Julie Walek, Artistic Director and Instructor said, “We currently have more than 200 students, and the new 10,000 sq ft building will allow us to continue to focus on our commitment to a low student-to-teacher ratio. We feel it is extremely important to give that one-on-one attention.” Owner Darlene Jones collaborated with her talented staff and team of instructors to design the new state-ofthe-art instructional facility, to provide the best possible atmosphere for dancers to express themselves. The new complex will be comprised of four studios, along with a tumble track studio for tumbling and acrobatics, a parent lounge with live, flat-screen monitors for viewing each studio, a student café, a performance area, a prop room, and a sewing room to create costumes and wardrobe. The DEA instructional curriculum includes classes in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, acrobatics, lyrical, contemporary, modern dance and musical theatre and caters to the recreational as well as the
competitive dancer. Darlene explains, “We have carefully chosen a staff that has years of experience. Our teachers have extensive dance education and certificates that are maintained yearly”. Aside from competitions, DEA dancers demonstrate their talents at various venues and events throughout the year. They maintain their annual tradition of performing at the Wiregrass Mall during the holidays, and they especially enjoy entertaining at the Orchard Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center. DEA students can also be found dancing locally at the popular Taste of Trinity and Longleaf Festivals. Marketing Director Stacey Wyman said, “We’re a very family-oriented dance studio! We go above and beyond to make sure that our students and parents are continuously happy. It is very important that we cultivate and maintain positive relationships with our dance families, neighbors and local businesses. It is an amazing feeling when the community supports each other”.

Darlene added, “I love the wonderful families that live in this area and are a part of the DEA family. I started my studio to give kids a chance to experience all genres of dance and gain a dance education. I love to see the joy in the kids’ faces as they walk into the studio. It is extremely rewarding to watch them improve each and every year.” Parent Jennifer Miller said, “We did a lot of research into choosing a new studio, and I am so happy that we picked DEA. The classes and teachers are superb, and my daughter has thrived since she started. Boomers “FREE Spirit” Rock On! Stroll down Memory Lane, then and now “…Five, six, seven o’clock, eight o’clock, ROCK! Nine, ten, eleven o ’c l o c k , twelve o’clock ROCK! We’re gonna ROCK around the clock tonight!” You guessed itBill Hailey & the Comets! Those were the good old days, and we’re still ROCKING!!! A few highlights from the 60s & 70s include authentic rock & roll, big hair, bell bottoms, miniskirts, go-go boots, tie dye shirts, 45 rpm records, American Bandstand, unlocked doors, un-tethered dogs, street light curfews, comic heroes, Bob Hope, and The Honeymooners. The 60s removed barriers. The 70s were crazy with “Flower Power”, peace signs, Earth shoes, blue jean skirts, headbands, long hair, beards, side burns, platform shoes and sandals. What fun reminiscing! As a member of this generation, I remember dancing as a teen at Club 1270 in the heart of “Motown,” Detroit City. There were bands playing in garages and singing groups on every street corner! Our group was “Valdaras” and did we have fun! We gathered every chance we could and recorded our voices on reel-tape. Saturday mornings we danced at the show, and every weekend at the “Dance Casino!” We always found time for our homework and our parents, even though WE knew more than they did!!!! History has repeated itself on many levels. One great thing I have observed about Boomers is that we have this attitude from the depths of our souls to PERSERVERE. We must proudly impart to our children
and grandchildren our ethics, morals, values, and patriotism! It is a beautiful thing, but an awesome responsibility. It is up to US to maintain verbal communication with our children and grandchildren before we lose our need for a voice box! Thanks to numerous electronic gadgets, T-E-XT-I-N-G has seemingly replaced verbal communication. Today more than ever, an ATTITUDE prevails in Boomers from the sixties. Fearless path-finders and trend-setters rock around the clock, staying strong, re-

Some re-capture lost dreams, renew passions previously discarded, and develop them into entrepreneurial ventures for fun, or frequently, supplemental income. Between the NOW generation and the Boomers, is the electronic device movement: Computers, I-Pads, MP3 players, Kindle Readers, GPS’s, etc. While
these products have great benefits, it can be stifling for those looking to market themselves as semi-retired Boomers, returning to the work force out of necessity. Thank goodness for our children and grandchildren who assist us in learning the basics to navigate the internet, email, texts, and social media! There are many fellow Boomers out there who understand our plight in the electronic world, and they are there for us, too! Remember our mantra, “Never, EVER Give-Up!” We continue to see many volatile situations in the world today. While we don’t always understand “What’s Goin’ On” (Marvin Gaye), we still have what it takes to go forth and step into the GREATNESS we possess as Boomers! THIS is where we set the example for our younger generations. We CAN and WILL survive! We have the tools, the stick-to-itiveness, the will power and the drive to live our lives with dignity and success! Remember, it’s never too late to start over, live a dream, and renew your PASSION. Put yourself or your business in the spotlight! Seek out those who lead the way in digital marketing, website creation, and social media. Get your name or business branded! With the holidays around the corner, many families are coming together to celebrate with eachother. Norman Rockwell (18941978) is most famous for capturing moments of an idealized America during the mid-20th century. As an illustrator, Rockwell worked for the Saturday Evening Post for over forty years. During that time, he created some of America’s most iconic works including: Rosie the Riveter and the Four Freedoms series. The Four Freedoms series had a scene that captured each of the four essential human rights President Franklin Roosevelt spoke of during a speech to the 77th US Congress in 1941. The four freedoms are: The Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. Those four freedoms are still crucially important to America today, especially during the holidays. Home Trend Watch: Welcome Back the “Specialty Room” As economic conditions improve, “special function” rooms within homes are seeing a resurgence, according to findings from the American Institute of Architects’ Home Design Trends Survey for the second quarter. “As home sizes shrank during the housing downturn, special function rooms were particularly hard hit,” says AIA Chief Economist Kermit Baker. “Many households view special function rooms as discretionary, and therefore easier to eliminate as homes were downsized. Now that average home sizes are growing again, interest in special function rooms is beginning to reemerge.” The special function rooms most in demand lately are outdoor living areas,

The IRS will not require recordkeeping of business use in order to receive this tax-free treatment. The IRS announced a similar administrative approach that applies to small businesses that provide cash allowances and reimbursements for work-related use of personally-owned cell phones. Under this approach, employers that require employees, primarily for non-compensatory business reasons, to use their personal cell phones for business purposes may treat reimbursements of the employees’ expenses for reasonable cell phone coverage as nontaxable. However, this treatment does not apply to reimbursements of unusual or excessive expenses or to reimbursements made as a substitute for a portion of the employee’s regular wages.

It has been many years since visiting this particular establishment, so when the opportunity arose to visit this restaurant, I approached this review with a bit of anticipation and trepidation. On this particular day, a bit of a chill was in the air, and the yearning for some hot soup drew us in. As we entered the darkened restaurant, we were greeted immediately by a staff member, and our friendly and perky server was at our table the moment we sat down. We inquired about the soup of the day, and were told it was Chicken Tortilla, and we promptly ordered it. Upon returning with our beverages, our server informed us that the Tortilla Soup was no longer available, but the soup that was available now was Tomato Basil, so we switched our order, along with placing the rest of our food order, which included a ½ Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and a ½ Cuban Sandwich. Not a moment later, our server appeared again, stating that the Tomato Basil soup was also not available, but the Italian Wedding Soup was definitely available. So once again, we modified our order, and were sincerely hoping that the old adage of 3rd time’s a charm would apply in this case. It did!!
While we waited for our food to arrive, we chatted about the restaurant and discussed the difficulties we had in trying to locate a parking space during the lunch hour. We did enjoy the sporty and rustic appeal of the place, along with the multiple TV’s that were broadcasting several different programs in an attempt to appeal to everyone tastes.

Our soup arrived within 10 minutes of our arrival and was piping hot and quite tasty, while our ½ sandwiches arrived shortly after our soup. The Grilled Cheese sandwich could have been toasted more, to give a browned appearance, but it was crunchy and cheesy…just the way we like it!
Despite the fact that our dining experience concluded in under an hour, this is one establishment that would not be on my Top 10 list to rush back to. Even though the food was good, I was still underwhelmed and probably wouldn’t return anytime in the near future because what we saw on the menu are items that we can pretty much get at several other locales in the area.
The Cuban Sandwich, which was hot and pressed, consisted of Ham, Salami and Swiss Cheese, which was served on authentic Cuban Bread, and included lettuce, tomato, pickle, mustard and mayo. Albeit a tad salty, the sauce on the sandwich, combined with the bread’s crunch appeal, made this a nice compliment to the soup.
Taking into account my past experiences, I was truly hoping that things would be different this time around, and that I’d leave with a smile on my face and a completely renewed perspective. The Inspire Foundation
TAMPA BAY AREA’S FINEST FIGHT FOR MUSIC AND THE ARTS You may know them as your neighbor, doctor, lawyer, or private music instructor, but those are just their day jobs. Fourteen of the Bay Area’s finest joined talents to form The Inspire Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on music and arts for children with special needs. The Inspire Foundation will provide instruments, supplies, and a curriculum to schools, individuals, and organizations. Their mission is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to explore their own talent and interest in music and the arts. The Inspire Foundation began when preschool music teacher, Cristine Rhodes, and her husband and music instructor, Jason Rhodes, joined up with colleague and speech pathologist, Heather Palmer, to discuss a new program Cristine was designing called Autism Sings. The driving force behind this program was a combination of love and experience in the music field, along with their own experience raising a son on the spectrum. When Jacob stopped talking at the early age of two, Jason and Cristine naturally responded by using music and arts in all aspects of his daily routine. They believe that combination of teaching and his love for animals and sports largely contributed to his current successes. Jason and Cristine began working with local artist and mother, Katye Grab. Together they became inspired to do even more for this cause by forming the inspire foundation and recruiting an amazing Board of Directors. The Foundation’s board includes Jason, Cristine, Katye, Heather, James Stanton, Teri Toner, Donna Israel, Debbie Dawson, Laurie Spiegel, Bart Kerr, Chris Grab, Jeremy Albert, Michael Stanton, and Chase Florin. The Inspire Foundation reached out to companies that shared the same goals as they did, and formed a special bond immediately with Renee Trinca, the owner of Schoenhut Toy Piano Company, located in St. Augustine. Renee was so excited to

become a part of this wonderful cause that she donated a majority of the musical instruments for The Inspire Foundation and Inspire School of Music & the Arts’ classrooms and summer music camps. She stays in close contact with Cristine and is excited at the progress of the foundation and being a part of its growth. They have also just joined a partnership with Ryan Judd, owner of The Rhythm Tree. Ryan is a board certified music therapist. His mission is to teach parents, educators and other therapists how to use music to help children with special needs learn, grow and thrive! The Inspire Foundation will rely mainly on fundraising events to raise money. They were selected as the November beneficiary of the Professional Philanthropy Network, a non-profit organization that helps other non profits raise money for good causes. Their next event is the first annual Arts for Autism. This event will be held on March 1, 2014, at the Florin Roebig property in Pinellas County off of Alderman Road. There will be live bands, live event artists, food, drinks, raffles, silent auctions, and much more. Although this organization is exclusive to the Tampa Bay area now, their goal is to expand throughout Florida, and eventually the United States. This is an amazing organization that has an incredible vision and I can’t wait to see where they go next.
