Hammerhead Roof & Exterior Cleaning Has You Covered! Hammerhead Roof & Exterior Cleaning has paved the way to clean surroundings with a SoftWash System™ that eliminates dirt, stains, mold, and algae that may be destroying the aesthetic appearance and structural integrity of your roof and your home. Did you know that those stains may represent a type of algae that feeds on the filler between asphalt shingles? Not only does the algae create a nasty, black appearance as it destroys your roof, according to Hammerhead’s website, the “algae dislodges the granules that protect and give color to your shingles and reduces the lifespan of your roof.”

Manufacturers Association (ARMA). You can rest assured that all Hammerhead employees h a v e passed a thorough criminal background check and been approved by Ask the Seal, and have received the “Seal o f Approval” before being issued photo identification. This insures that you can trust our team members on your property or in your home or office! Hammerhead Roof & Exterior Cleaning is located at 3152 Little Rd, #213, Trinity. To schedule a FREE in-home or in-office estimate, call 800-700-4140. Learn more about this exclusive Softwash system by visiting hammerheadsoftwash.com, or email: info@hammerheadsoftwash.com.

If that’s not scary enough, this fungal infestation can do more damage after pressure washing. Pressure washing will further spread the fungal spores throughout the area in question, causing even more problems in the future.

Become a fan on Facebook at Hammerhead Roof & Exterior Cleaning, or follow them on Twitter: Hammerhead Softwash@Hammerhead_ wash.

The SoftWash System™ uses a mix of biodegradable ‘mildewcides’, algaecides, soaps and low-pressure pumps for a deep clean that kills 100% of the algae without damaging your roof or your structural exterior. “Unlike pressure washing we pump from a 12-volt system. This means there is no damage from over use of pressure. Our Surfactant lasts up to 6 times longer than pressure washing and comes with a 5-year warranty. Plus, we avoid walking roofs as much as possible, especially barrel tiles,” the service team added. Hammerhead Roof & Exterior Cleaning services include cleaning pool decks & cages, sidewalks, driveways, pavers, fences, residential & commercial exteriors, mobile home exteriors, decks, docks, playground equipment and more! To become a Softwash Systems approved company you have to maintain a 50 point checklist that includes standards of excellence in professionalism, equipment usage and maintenance, chemical handling & applications, safety, and education.” Throughout this extensive list, employees are encouraged to stay current and follow all regulations set forth by the Asphalt Roofing

Another Happy Roof! I am the President of our Homeowners Association in Fl. I heard about Hammerhead Softwash through a friend who had contacted them to clean their roofs. After meeting with Joe Marchiselli, and having a demo section of my roof done for no charge, I was thrilled with the outcome and immediately contracted them to do all 20 units in our complex. Needless to say, our residents were thrilled with the job they did. Their staff were extremely polite and helpful. They even moved and put back furniture and plants while doing the work. Our members immediately phoned me and wanted to pay right away and couldn’t believe the price. We had our roofs cleaned 3 years ago by a pressure washing company and weren’t happy with the result. Hammerhead’s job by far excelled our previous cleaning and we are very happy to recommend them to anyone. -John Strong, President Norstar Cove Villas

Hometown STORY

Kevin Abendroth, Music Matters Some of the all-time great bands started their musical journey in the acoustically-imbalanced garages of family and friends. However, thanks to Kevin Abendroth, owner of Music Matters, garage band musicians now have the perfect place in Trinity to hone their craft, polish their talent and well… Jam!

“We have many parents and customers who have expressed interest in playing in a band like they may have years ago in the garage,” Kevin said. “We will match up a drummer, two guitar players, bassist, keyboardist and singer to make that happen. The band will meet with our band leader one evening a week, or on Saturday, and prepare several songs to play in a big show. Our interest list is growing, and we’re looking to start adult and kids bands very soon.” Music Matters began serving Tampa Bay residents in the mid to late 90’s, as a piano and organ shop, featuring group lessons, which were most popular with older adults. However, seven years ago, Kevin’s vision for the future of his passion led him to sell his other locations, relocate to Trinity, and open a convenient shop for children, families, friends and neighbors. “We have a large variety of instruments and lessons that we currently offer. We started with just a few teachers and studios and have grown to more than 25 instructors and over 400 students,” Kevin stated. All of the professional instructors are affiliated with local schools, music organizations or churches, and each are

dedicated to inspiring students to learn and have fun with music. This complete and diverse staff makes it possible for students to work directly with the perfect teacher for them. As a web special to the community, Music Matters offers the first lesson free, so students, and/or parents, can determine if the instructor will be a good match for the student. www.musicmattersfl.com

Music Matters’ 12-week classes include Rocks’Cool bands for both kids and adults, and Pops’ Cool vocal groups for kids. The end of each class term culminates in a big show at an exciting performance venue. The underlying mission for Kevin and Music Matters is to present numerous opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy the benefits of playing a musical instrument in a fun and exciting environment. Music Matters offers a wide variety of products and services, making them your one-stop shop for lessons, instruments, instructional music books, and musical supplies. The array of musical instruments available at Music Matters includes electric & acoustic guitars, band instruments, digital pianos, and so many more! Private lessons for individuals, ages four and up, are available for most instruments, but the most popular remain the piano, guitar, drums, violin, ukulele, band instruments, and voice. Kevin added, “Our rock band classes for kids have been a big hit for several years, so we are gearing up for a new rock band just for adults.” Stay tuned for upcoming holiday camps for kids during school breaks in December. It’ll be the perfect opportunity to catch up on holiday shopping while the kiddos experience musical magic at Music Matters!

BLACK OUT Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath created the dramatic eye makeup at Lanvin in Paris, where she used black eyeliner along the lid before smudging it with a brush in all directions. MIXED METALS Pairing slicked back hair with a deep, metallic burgundy lip, the look at Ralph & Russo is equal parts romantic and modern. To ease into the metallic lipstick look, use a matte lipstick on your entire pout, then a metallic finish color only in the center.

COLOR HIGHLIGHTS Colored extensions were added to high, sleek ponytails by stylist Laurent Phillipon at the Herve Leger show. Models were given either orange or blue extentions depending on their ensembles. MINIMALISTIC MANICURES At Laura Biagiotti in Milan, the minimalism came in the form of a rose gold metallic polish. While the look is simple, playing up the metallic trend on nails is an easy way to keep an otherwise simple manicure interesting.

Being Thankful

We have a lot to celebrate with the Fall issue of IT’s YOUR HOME Magazine. Not only is it our fifth year in publication, but we are also excited about the change of seasons and the great things happening in our community!

I, personally, have a lot to be thankful for and commemorate this year. My husband and I are preparing to celebrate our one year anniversary October 5th. Since we married, we have rescued two wonderful canines from a local no-kill shelter: a nine year-old dachshund named Kellie, and a two year-old Rottweiler mix, Magnus.Yes, they are an odd couple, without a doubt, but they get along quite well, and certainly bring lots of joy to our lives! We also celebrate and are quite grateful for our health and that of our families, something not to be taken for granted. To that end, I celebrate the lives of two wonderful women, both, my great aunts, and the legacy they left us through many cherished memories. They were the last of a long line

of “greats,” and I am thankful to have known them and learned from them. As we transition from summer to autumn, our balmy temperatures may not weaken as much as they do up north, but we can celebrate the seasons of change, and the beginning of the end of another year. The holidays will be here in a matter of weeks, rather than months. Celebrate whatever is in your life and your heart, and above all, be gracious. We, at Topaz Digital Ink, are thankful for and celebrate you, our fabulous audience, without whom we would not have this forum to share about our wonderful, local businesses, community events, and useful insights. Please let us know what kinds of things you find interesting, or what you wish to see or read about in IT’s YOUR HOME Magazine this coming year. We want to continue to evolve as professionals, and provide a quality publication you look forward to receiving each issue! As our thanks to you, we promise to do our very best to make your wishes come true over the next year!

AGING, NOW!

Dennis & I are constantly being asked about our “secrets” to defying the aging process and to living a “Prime Time Life.” How do we keep our golden years from being rusty years? How are we so positive and so happy in spite of negative Dennis Kelly & Barbara Marville-Kelly circumstances? For us, it comes down to one power word: CHOICES! We have both done much research to glean knowledge to make the best choices for our lives. We refer to this as “the wisdom of the ages.” This also includes trial & error lessons learned from life experiences along our journey. We quickly identified PEACE & HARMONY as two more major power words that strengthened us. Learning the “ABC power word list”, using our Master L.I.F.E. Institute© blueprint, and following our simple “Be Attitudes©”, can help you become a “growth-seeking individual” in all areas life. It may sound overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be once you know the “secrets” to mastering your life and become aligned with the people who match your enthusiasm, ethics, and truth. Build a foundation grounded in LOVE and constructed through faith, commitment, honor, achievement, authenticity, honesty, and gratitude. Pay it forward, give back and expect nothing in return. Is there anything more valuable than making a difference in someone’s life? Follow these principles and you should always be able to look in the mirror and like who you see!!

Signs of

SKIN CANCER of the feet what to look for

By Dr. Omair Zafar, DPM

In Florida we are spending more time on the beach and by the pool. Most of us are taking a proactive approach in protecting ourselves against the sun’s harmful rays with hats, sunglasses and sunscreen. However, one area of the body is often overlooked. We tend to put sunscreen everywhere but our feet! And since many don’t have a habit of checking our feet on a regular basis, when melanoma is detected on the feet it is usually in an advanced stage. Melanoma may not be the most common of skin cancers (accounts for 5% of all skin cancers), it can be the most lethal according to the American Cancer Society. Approximately 76,100 new cases of melanoma will be diagnosed in the United States during 2014. The rates of melanoma have been rising for at least 30 years. Melanoma of the foot is of even greater concern due to the fact that it may go undetected in its early stages. Provided skin cancer is found and treated early, it can almost always be cured. Look for the ABCDE’s of skin cancer prevention.

A is for Asymmetry: One half of a mole or birthmark does not match the other.

B is for Border: The edges are irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred. C is for Color: It’s not the same all over and may include shades of brown or black, or sometimes with patches of pink, red, white, or blue. D is for Diameter: The spot is larger than 6mm across (about ¼” – the size of a pencil eraser), but melanomas can sometimes be smaller. E is for Evolving: The mole is changing in size, shape, or color. Share these ABCDE’s of skin cancer prevention with loved ones and monitor any present moles or growth on your skin for changes. If you suspect any of these abnormalities contact Foot and Leg Specialty Center at 727‐842‐9504. So the next time you throw on those sandals, take a moment to apply sunscreen to and examine your feet. Dr. Zafar received his medical degree from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. He completed his residency with an emphasis in foot and ankle surgery at the Detroit Medical Center, which included Detroit Receiving Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Michigan, both of which are level one trauma centers. His extensive training in Orthopedic and Pediatric surgery includes specializing in trauma, adult and pediatric foot and ankle surgery, ankle arthroscopy, chronic ankle pain, and forefoot surgery including bunions, hammertoes, and flat foot repair. He also recognizes the challenge of caring for the diabetic patient and is experienced in the techniques needed for limb salvage, skin grafts and complex wound ulcers.

any of the freedoms we possess as individuals are taken for granted far too often. We must never forget those living with physical and mental disabilities, incapable of living life independently, unless they are one of more than 500 Pasco County residents currently served each day by The Center for Independence, soon to be renamed The Arc Suncoast. For almost 50 years, the CFI (formerly, A.R.C.), has sought to assist developmentally and intellectually challenged individuals in our community, by offering services that teach them how to live, work and achieve their own personal levels of independence. In the early years, ARC was an acronym for the Association for Retarded Citizens. This was appropriately changed to drop the “R” word, as it was, and continues to be, politically incorrect. However, to retain the alliance of donors and members familiar with the former ARC acronym, the new name maintains that familiarity in brand awareness. CFI/The Arc Suncoast is joining forces with the state and national Arc organizations to continue building the programs and services that heighten the benefits and advocacy for their clients. Currently, the services CFI/Arc offers include New Freedom Transportation, which provides transportation to those without;

Adult Day Training, which consists of classes for learning numerous life skills & essentials; Residential Services that allows for clients to live together as a family; and Employment Services, which includes job coaches and work training so clients can achieve job placement within the community. The new CEO of CFI/The Arc Suncoast, Cathy Holland, presents an impressive resume, having worked tirelessly with civic organizations and non-profits over the course of her career. With an endless supply of energy, and loyalty to the core, Cathy assumed the helm at this amazing organization in May, following in the footsteps of Emile Laurino, who retired a 36-year veteran administrator. “I’ve been in the nonprofit sector most of my career and thrive when working with people with developmental disabilities, as they are the angels on earth,” Cathy explained. “There is plenty to do here. We need to build a solid volunteer base, and create a fundraising program to continue improving the quality of the programs we offer our families.” Members of the community can help Cathy, CFI/ The Arc Suncoast, and their many deserving clients by assisting with fundraising and marketing efforts, or by getting involved as a volunteer in the day programs, teaching fundamentals like basic math, photography, painting, etc., or even by working at the Resale Store. For more information, contact The Center for Independence/The Arc Suncoast at 727-376-2777, or visit their facility at 8726 Old CR 54, New Port Richey.

Extreme Energy Efficiency Utility bills are expected to skyrocket over the next couple of decades. This will result in sustainable updates that push the green needle of household standards.

The Rise of Super Storms Since super storms are becoming the norm, homeowners can be left without electricity for weeks, even months — as they were after Hurricane Sandy.

Waterless toilets: Nope, we aren’t talking about porta potties, but clean and sanitary indoor thrones that’ll one-up low flush loos.

Whole house generator: This will allow people to live comfortably until their power is restored. FYI, homeowners can currently recoup 52% of the cost of a midrange electrical backup system.

Why we picked this prediction: It makes sense since residential water rates are rising in the U.S., and toilets are responsible for nearly 27% of our total water use. Plus, Dow Chemical says waterless toilets will become a household standard. Grey water systems: According to Energy.gov, systems like these currently reuse up to 60% of your household water for watering the lawn and flushing toilets. Why we picked this prediction: In the future, the real big boppers will be high-tech purification systems that return wastewater to drinking-quality level. A good example is the orbital shower. This concept saves 90% of the water and 80% of the energy used, trimming as much as $1,000 off yearly energy bills.

Why we picked this prediction: Thanks to climate change and our aging power grid, blackouts are becoming more common. The Department of Energy says that thunderstorms, hurricanes, and blizzards account for 58% of outages in the U.S. since 2002. Tip: Futurists are predicting that USB ports will become the power outlets of the not so distant future. Luckily for you, quick charge ports are available now.

The Locally Grown Movement The desire to eat healthier, better-tasting foods continues to increase. This will make indoor gardens more common. Edible indoor kitchen gardens: These hydroponic systems will add to home enjoyment by allowing people to create the farm to table experience in their own kitchens. Why we picked this prediction: Urban farming has been on the rise. It combats rising food prices and reduces the energy consumption of transporting food. Tip: Bringing nature inside can create a more healthy and happy living environment. Fragrant plants can chase away the winter blues, while others can combat household air pollution.

LIVING

Sophisticated Appliances & Fixtures General Electric recently revealed their vision for the home of the not too distant future — 2025 to be exact. Their vision is not about smartphone apps controlling our homes, but about the things in our abodes working harder. Faucets: They won’t be just for water. They will also dispense ice, various beverages, and vitamins. Kitchen sinks: They will also do double duty as dishwashers. The in-sink dishwasher will wash small loads in just a couple of minutes. Laundry machines: They will clean and fold clothing into compact pellets. This will be a big space saver and allow consumers to carry an entire outfit in a small gym bag or purse. Why we picked GE’s predictions: Smartphones have replaced the need for other items like alarm clocks and cameras. With that idea in mind, it makes sense that countertop appliances will become replaced by multi-purpose “uber appliances” that make our lives a little bit easier.

Energy dashboards: You know how cars share the miles per gallon we’re getting? An energy dashboard will do the same for our homes. Why we picked this prediction: It’s all about the emerging technologies that will surround the future modernization of the electric grid. Called the Smart Grid, it will allow a two–way dialogue between homeowners and their utility companies so we can understand our energy use and its costs in real time. Garages wired for the electric vehicle revolution: Energy.gov predicts we will be charging our vehicles at home, and filling up at the gas stations less. This is based on the growing number of electric vehicle sales across the U.S. Why we picked this prediction: One city has already embraced this idea. In Palo Alto, Calif., bldg. code requires new homes to come pre-wired for electric car chargers. Tip: Fireplaces are hot right now. They’re something homebuyers really covet according to the “2013 Home Features Survey” from the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. Nowadays the latest in fireplace technology are systems that burn denatured alcohol. They can warm up a room and burn for up to 24 hs. Even better, they don’t emit smoke, so no chimney is required.

1. Follow your passion – Your business should have a purpose to improve the lives of others. This can mean lots of things, but this will improve your outlook on the business and on your life. Build the business around your life and what you are passionate about. You will likely be doing it or thinking about it 24-7, so you better love it! 2. Build a team of advisors – You will need an accountant for bookkeeping, taxes, and payroll, a banker for loans and accounts, an attorney for general agreements, contracts, leases, owner agreements, entity selection, a financial advisor, and an insurance agent. Pick a team that you trust will have your best interests in mind and truly want to see you succeed. Interview a few and ask for referrals. If they are good, you will find that they are not a ‘cost’ but rather an ‘investment’ into the success of your business. 3. Make sure you have enough capital (funding) – This is where your team of advisors can help. You don’t want to risk your life’s savings to find out that four months after opening your doors you run out of money. A marketing and business plan will also help with this. You should spend a lot of time researching your business, the market for it and your competition before jumping in. Put a plan in place and continuously reevaluate it! 4. Be able to overcome many obstacles – Owning a business means that you will have to face many walls and challenges. Even with the best advice and plans there will be many unforeseen problems to overcome. Having the grit to endure and overcome walls is essential. Let your family and friends know that you will likely not have a “9-5 job” anymore – you will need their support.

www.ItsYourHomeMagazine.com

5. Systems – Know that you will be focusing on marketing, operations and finance/administration in your business. All three have to work! Not only do they have to work, but they have to continuously improve over time. This means having procedures and systems of ‘what’ and ‘how’ in place on every function of those three items in your business. Then, update and improve them as you go. You will become more efficient and competitive as a business over time doing so! Call Unbehagen Advisors for a complimentary business consultation today, and start here to build your own team of small business advisors!

A TRIPLE TEAM AT BRIX 33 3 PARTNERS. 3 GENRES OF BUSINESS. THUS, EXPLAINS THE “33” OF BRIX 33. The amazing administrative team at Brix 33 developed a most brilliant name to match a most contemporary concept for a most exemplary dining, social and retail experience ever known to our slice of paradise in West Tampa Bay. This triple-crown collaboration consists of a casual upscale restaurant, a wine store and a wine bar with state of the art wine dispensing systems and offering over 30 different craft beers, all under one roof. In addition Brix 33 can also host private events of up to 25 people in their private event room. Rich Scherch, retired after 30 years in engineering, and president of Trinity’s newest hotspot explains more about the name, “Brix is a term commonly used in brewing. It is a measure of the sugar in a solution, normally denoted as Degrees Brix (°Bx). The °Bx is traditionally used in the wine, sugar, carbonated beverage, fruit juice, and honey industries. Additionally, the final alcohol level is a function of the Brix level of the pre-fermented solution.” Dan Clark, a 20-year business professional in the Trinity area and former proprietor of The Wine Loft, brings more than 25 years of experience in the wine industry to Brix 33. Dan serves as vice president and wine expert, and enthusiastically shares his expertise to enhance not only your meal, but your entire wining and dining experience, right down to the perfect wine selection to take home from their retail store. Executive Chef, Mark Malowski, started his career “cooking on the New York circuit.” He chose to attend the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park in 1990, and after earning his degree, his culinary journey led him to Europe where he catered to heads of state and potentates, while overseeing some of the world’s finest hotels in Europe’s recreation center. “I had the chance to prepare meals for Les Aspen, the former secretary of defense, and many of the other ministers of Europe. I returned to the states and started an extensive career as the executive chef for companies such as Doubletree, Marriott, Hilton and Adams Mark hotels. I have spent the last ten years with Whole Foods market, and I was an instructor at the Blair House in Austin,” Chef Mark recalled. Chef Mark became acquainted with Dan while working and teaching at Whole Foods. They connected with Rich, who had been planning this business venture since his retirement in August 2013, and Brix 33 was born!

Chef Mark uses only local growers and fish co-ops for the freshest, highest quality products he can find. Moreover, he insists on purchasing only the finest, all-natural meats to prepare and serve their guests, who can share plates in order to capture a complete example of Chef Mark’s culinary creations.

“All fish and produce is purchased locally, and they must meet all state and local guidelines, as well as minimum specs on pesticides, with no antibiotic or hormones in the meats,” Chef Mark remarked. “I love the Gulf, and take advantage of it as often as I can, which may explain my (menu’s) strong emphasis on seafood.” This dynamic team invites everyone to visit Brix 33 at 8351 SR 54, Trinity, to relax, eat a delicious meal in the restaurant, have some good wine, all of which is reasonably priced, and leave feeling satisfied and anxious to return!

Halloween Pet Safety Tips

Be prepared for the arrival of autumn and follow these guidelines for your pet’s safety this fall and Halloween season.

Candy

• Keep Halloween candy in a secure container out of your pet’s reach. Remember that chocolate and certain types of candy are toxic to both cats and dogs and should never be given to them. • Wrappers and small toys can pose choking hazards and should be kept out of reach of pets. Contact your local Animal Poison Control Center or your veterinarian immediately if your pet ingests any of these hazards or is exhibiting signs of choking or irritation.

Costumes

• Be aware of your pet’s tolerance for a Halloween costume. Give the costume a test run and if your pet seems restless or unhappy, reconsider the costume. • Costumes should never impede a pet’s ability to move, breathe, see, or hear.

Trick-Or-Treating

• Using a harness for your pet while trick-or-treating is a great way to keep them safe. Make sure it fits your pet’s size and specific needs. • If your pet becomes uneasy in unfamiliar territory or around people in costumes, take them back home to where they feel safe. • When greeting party guests or trick-or-treaters, keep pets in a separate room, as strangers might make them uneasy.

Decorations

• Stick to pet-safe decorations like cutouts or decals in your home. • Raw pumpkins and decorative corn are usually non-toxic, but ingesting too much of it can cause upset stomachs. • Display candlelit jack-o-lanterns or luminaries only on inaccessible shelves. A safer alternative would be to use battery-powered versions instead. • Think twice about dangling cobwebs, loose strings, and wires that can attract your cat’s attention and become a choking hazard.
