“‘CHICAGO still GLITTERS HYPNOTICALLY.” – Ben Brantley, The New York Times
There’s never been a better time to experience CHICAGO, Broadway’s razzle-dazzle smash. This triumphant hit musical is the recipient of six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy, and thousands of standing ovations—and is now the longest-running American musical in Broadway history! CHICAGO has everything that makes Broadway great: a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, accompanied by one show-stopping number after another, including “Cell Block Tango,” “Roxie,” and Mama Morton’s unforgettable “When You’re Good to Mama.” After its success on the stage, the show was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film in 2002. It’s no surprise that CHICAGO has wowed audiences from Mexico City to Moscow, from Sao Paulo to South Africa, and will make its way to Bloomington this fall!

“The event is a great, family-friendly way to celebrate Halloween.” – The Herald-Times
Bloomington’s favorite musical mastermind returns for a special 50th anniversary performance as Dennis James Hosts Halloween this fall. To celebrate 50 years since his silent film performing debut, James will be joined on stage by a full student orchestra presenting the original organ and orchestral music for the 1925 film The Phantom of the Opera, the same film this now world-renowned organist played behind in his first concert on our stage in 1967. The orchestra will be directed by special guest Hayden Denesha who currently serves as staff conductor and youth orchestra director for the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra, and as graduate assistant conductor for the University of South Carolina Symphony Orchestra. The Phantom of the Opera depicts a tragic love story that has stood the test of time and various interpretations, such as the original French novel, two stage musicals, a movie musical, and, of course, this film. The story takes place in a Paris opera house, where a mysterious phantom terrorizes its occupants—a terror that turns into love as he falls for a beautiful chorus girl whose fear for him matches his lust for her. Join us for this very special family-friendly and Bloomington Halloween tradition!

Spamalot tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest for the Holy Grail. Flying cows, killer rabbits, taunting Frenchmen, and show-stopping musical numbers are just a few of the reasons audiences worldwide are eating up Spamalot!

“ELF is happy enough for families, savvy enough for city kids, and plenty smart for adults!” – Variety
ELF The Broadway Musical is the hilarious and heartwarming tale of Buddy, who, as a young orphan child, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities put him face-to-face with the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help the city remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern day Christmas classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner ELF. Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema film, ELF The Broadway Musical features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray), and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).

AMERICAN DANCE THEATER “…The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater carries an aura of social, moral and even spiritual righteousness. It’s not just the dancers’ exquisite athleticism and peerless commitment that convey this and transfer such a rush to the audience. It’s also the artistic content, especially when it directly engages with human virtues.” – The Washington Post
The absolute gold standard of American dance, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is renowned for celebrating the human spirit through the African-American cultural experience and the American modern dance heritage. Their mission to further the pioneering vision of the choreographer, dancer, and cultural leader Alvin Ailey by building an extended cultural community allows them to play a crucial social role using the beauty and humanity of the African-American heritage and other cultures to unite people of all races, ages, and backgrounds. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater grew from a now-fabled New York City performance in March 1958. Led by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American modern dancers, that performance changed forever the perception of American dance.

BRANFORD MARSALIS “Full of emotion and intensity.” – KCRW (Los Angeles, CA)
As one of the most revered instrumentalists of his time, three-time Grammy Award winner Branford Marsalis, along with the Branford Marsalis Quartet, will bring new energy to the Bloomington jazz scene and to the IU Auditorium stage in the spring of 2019. Marsalis is widely known for his time as musical director of The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno and his work on the Spike Lee film School Daze. Since his early acclaim as a saxophonist, Marsalis has refined and expanded his talents and horizons as a musician, composer, bandleader, and educator, including the creation of the Branford Marsalis Quartet. Known for the telepathic communication among its uncommonly consistent personnel, its deep book of original music replete with expressive melodies and provocative forms, and an unrivaled spirit in both live and recorded performances, the Branford Marsalis Quartet has long been recognized as the standard to which other ensembles of its kind must be measured. Marsalis himself has played with a legion of jazz giants, including Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, and Sonny Rollins. Loyalty Point-holding patrons’ orders are filled before new subscriptions, pre-orders, and the general public in descending order—meaning the greater number of points you have, the sooner your seats are filled (see Loyalty Points, page 31). For more specifics on our Loyalty Point system, please visit IUauditorium.com/loyalty or call the Box Office at (812) 855-1103.
WHAT IF THE SEATING AREA I SELECT IS SOLD OUT? If this happens, you will be contacted by our Box Office staff and provided with additional options. If you are placed in a lowerpriced seating level, the difference in price will be refunded.
WHAT KINDS OF ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES ARE OFFERED BY THE AUDITORIUM? We strive to accommodate all of our guests, regardless of accessibility or other needs. If you require special accommodation, including wheelchair-accessible seating, amplification headsets, large-print or braille programs, audio description, or ASL services, please contact our Box Office at (812) 855-1103. Also, space in front of IU Auditorium around Showalter Fountain has been designated as accessible parking for those with state-issued disability tags.
I’M A STUDENT, BUT NOT AN IU BLOOMINGTON STUDENT. CAN I STILL RECEIVE A STUDENT DISCOUNT? We’re sorry, but only students enrolled on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University may use a student-price ticket to gain admission.
CAN I SIT WITH MY FRIENDS? Yes. There are two ways in which you can place this type of order. You can simply order all tickets on a single order form with one method of payment. Alternatively, if you are a subscriber (see page 32 for subscriber benefits) you may submit up to four order forms together with separate methods of payment. Each order is charged an additional $10 service fee. All orders to be combined must be submitted to the Box Office at the same time, either in person, or mailed together in the same envelope. Orders are filled according to patron with the lowest number of Loyalty Points.
DO I HAVE TO PAY ALL AT ONCE? When you become a subscriber by choosing five or more event titles, you are entitled to take advantage of the convenient 50/50 Payment Option in order to secure your great seats. Just check the 50/50 Payment Option box on the order form or online, and 50% of your total subscription order’s cost plus a $10 fee will be billed to your credit card when your order is received. The remaining 50% and an additional $10 handling fee will be automatically billed to the same card in August.
CAN I PAY BY BURSAR BILLING ONLINE AND OVER THE PHONE? Yes. By using bursar billing for your order, your tickets will be mailed to the address on file.
HOW DO I PAY USING IU PAYROLL DEDUCTION? The minimum order for IU payroll deduction is $100, and all orders wishing to pay via this method must be received by August 31, 2018. Simply check the Payroll Deduction box on the order form or online.
For more information on our accessibility offerings, please contact Guest Services at (812) 855-5739.
HOW DO I ACCESS THE IU BLOOMINGTON STUDENT DISCOUNT? Each IU Bloomington student with a current, valid IUB student ID may redeem one student-priced ticket per event for their personal use. Simply ask for a student-priced ticket at our box office window, or mark the student-priced option when purchasing online. Although students need not be present at the time of purchase, they will be required to present their student ID upon entry. Those without ID may be asked to return to the Box Office in order to upgrade their ticket for the general admission price.
