SURAKARTA INCLUSIVE BOARDING MIDDLE SCHOOL MARCH 2017 ACADEMIC WORK - FINAL PROJECT

This design came as a result of developing an educational space as an embryio to generate inclusive communities. The curriculum provided focuses on the inclusive based education on middle school as a provision for slow learning children and children with learning difficulties to be integrated with the regular children. Designing an inclusive school is one step of raising awareness in creating inclusive environments in supporting Surakarta as an “Inclusive City”. The whole Indonesia people seems not yet to be alarmed of this issue. Infrastructures and public amnities needed in creating inclusive environtments especially in providing inclusive schools thoroughly is sadly still at lack. Therefore, an accomodation facility comes as an answer to provide student out of the town in this inclusive middle school.

TOP 20 - AGF 2016 NATIONAL COMPETITION IN COLLABORATION WITH JUN DAMAR W, YULIUS DUTA P

An archipelagic island country, Indonesia has its three-quarters area covered by 7,9 million km2 sea with various groups embryo of maritime cultures. One of them is, Bajo tribe. Bajo tribe is known as sea nomads because of its culture which is wandering the ocean. But nowadays many of them has settled on seashore or reef barrier, e.g Matingola Village, Kaledupa Island, Wakatobi District. It is a catastrophic when the government doesn’t seem to concern the existence of this maritime tribe. Clean water supply is the main problem in Matingola Village; while Sampela, the neighbor Bajo Village can enjoy clean water easily. To get clean water, Matingola people have to row the boat to the shore and carry the water by plastic container. A guesthouse will not only be a facility for tourist and yet be an aspiration to adjust the community life particularly on both clean water supply issue and ecoturism.

This project is located on the area with almost no green space. Beside, the government is now struggling with a program to add more green spaces in the city by requiring houses in Semarang to have at least 30% of a building area to be a green space. Therefore, this riverfront area will be designed as a central public green space (sharing garden). It is hope that it would generate the people participation in improving the environment.

Hierarchy of Human Needs concept stated by Abraham Maslow is the basis to design this riverfront area to be an activity generator to provide a public space for the neighborhood. The public space would become a new identity which represents the character of Layur-Sleko districts by providing spaces for activity based on the hierarchy of human needs application in urban design.

APRIL 2017 LAFARGE HOLCIM AWARD (NEXT GENERATION CATEGORY) international COMPETITION ENTRY in collaboration with jun damar, dicky wijaya

An archipelagic island country, Indonesia has its three-quarters area covered by 7,9 million km² sea with various groups embryo of maritime cultures. One of them is, Suku Laut (sea people tribe) spreads in Riau Islands. There is also a theory telling that this tribe was the powerful pirate on Sriwijaya era, Kesultanan Malaka and Kesultanan Johor. Sea people make their own way of life, they were born in the sea, they live in the sea, marry in the sea and die in the sea. Suku laut was known as the sea wanderer. They spent their life on a small boat with the whole family and went wandering wherever nature and weather took them away. The deem land is only a dirty place to bury the dead and not to live. They are sure living in a dierent way than most people are. Due to the changing of time, resource depletion, citizenship, and any other general system in life, there comes increasing various demands to raise prosperity of sea people causing them to start settling themselves on coastal water area. The main idea of this proposal is to give a concept of a sea settlement development for Suku Laut community with a vision of improving the life quality by conserving its idigenous characteristic with a strategy of raising the people sensitivity and the sense of belonging as an awareness to advance and develop their own culture.

The ďŹ rst step of developing Suku Laut settlement is by creating a modular rural structure as an underlying basis in founding a sustainable sea people settlement. The main idea is to create a modular form as a basis for the people itself to build and express by their own with the aim to create social spaces which are referring to community development. By involving the subject in the development, it is hoped that the people itself would bear sensitivity and the sense of belonging as an awareness in developing and advancing their culture.
