urge them to look at the existing control orders and then let us know what their thoughts are.” Comments received through the consultation process will be considered by the council before its strategy is finalised and presented for adoption.
Hannahs has used an innovative way of recruiting support workers to join the team at their Ivybridge site by producing a fun and inspiring film. There was even a special film première for the stars and their guests. The team in Hannahwood, Hannahs’ young adult provision, were filmed going about their day-to-day lives with the young adults. The film, which was viewed 500 times in the first two days, shows how much fun the support workers and young adults have and how many diverse activities they take part in. “We know that being a support worker at Hannahs is more than just a job and far more than people traditionally associate with the role,” said Nicola Moorhouse, head of marketing and communications. “But it was difficult to get this across in adverts and web listings. “So in true Hannahs’ style, we did something a little different that really showcased the fun and opportunities available, as well as the invaluable support they give to the young people we support at Hannahs. “Whilst the response to the film has been astonishing, we would still encourage anyone thinking of applying to do so as our services, and therefore the need, is continuing to grow.”
î To view a summary of existing Dog Control Orders and to comment, visit southhams.gov.uk/ dogcontrol The consultation closes on 27th March

Anne Brooks from Ivybridge Rotary Club visited Stowford School to present Year 5 children with a ‘dictionary for life’, which the children will be able to use to help with their learning for the rest of their time at Stowford and beyond. With beautiful illustrations, the Usborne Illustrated English Dictionary is easy to use and the children are eager to browse through them at every opportunity. Year 5 teacher Mr Nute commented: “It is an incredibly generous gesture made by the Rotary Club each year and we are sincerely grateful to all those involved. The children were excited to receive their own dictionary to use in lessons.”
YOUR CHANCE TO HAVE A SAY ABOUT DOGS South Hams District Council wants to hear your views on Dog Control Orders within Ivybridge. The consultation is part of a review of the current Dog Control Orders, which include when and where a dog should be on, or off, a lead, such as in car parks or shopping streets. A six-week consultation period is now open and the council would like to hear views from non-dog owners as well as dog owners.
The council want to know if the current access and facilities available for dog walkers will remain adequate for the next three years. The consultation will also look at which areas dogs should be restricted from, such as enclosed play parks and beaches. Cathy Aubertin, SHDC operational manager for environment services, said: “We want to know from residents if the current control orders in their area are satisfactory. We
PRIMROSE FESTIVAL WILL CELEBRATE UNIQUE PIECE OF TOWN’S PAST A festival celebrating a unique part of Ivybridge’s heritage is taking place this month. The Ivybridge Primrose Festival is being held on Saturday, 25th March (10am-4pm). It will be opened by some of the Ivybridge residents who were involved with the mammoth task of sending out 12,000 boxes of primroses in a very short window of time. Events include a market in Glanvilles Mill accompanied
by various exhibitions. The Ivybridge Heritage & Archives Group has many items relating to the sending of primroses throughout the country to the customers of Wiggins Teape Paper, which will be on display on the day. A competition for children has been circulated in the local schools and the best entry will have souvenir cards produced. Further events are taking place in the library and around the town.

BMX/SKATEPARK AREA Over the last few years, a small group of enthusiasts have been trying to manage the dirt ramps at Filham Park. This has proved to be quite a challenge, as most of the group are young people and they are unable to commit themselves to doing the repairs and on-going maintenance that such an area needs. Two local residents had expressed interest in trying to work towards the provision of a permanent, concrete, skatebowl, but they are struggling to get enough interest locally to support their efforts. There is funding available for this type of project, but it needs people with commitment to make it happen. If you could help turn this dream into a reality and provide a facility for BMX/skateboarding at Filham Park then please email the Town Clerk, Lesley Hughes (townclerk@ivybridge.gov.uk).
ANNUAL MEETING The Annual Town Meeting will be held on a Friday this year – 21st April – at The Watermark at 7pm. We are delighted that Gary Streeter MP will be attending to speak. Please put the date in your diary to learn about the work of the Town Council, what is happening in the year ahead as well as being able to ask questions and hear from our speakers.
COMMONWEALTH DAY On Monday, 13th March, at 10am, with the support of the Ivybridge Royal British Legion, we will be raising the Commonwealth Flag at Harry’s Patch on Leonards Road. Our links with the Commonwealth have endured and in future these could be even more important to this country. The theme is young people and some students from Ivybridge Community College will be joining us for the short ceremony. All welcome. Stowford School was delighted to receive the Gold School Games Mark Award for a third year running. The mark is an award scheme, launched in 2012, to reward schools for their commitment to providing and developing competition across their school and in the local community. Pupils benefit in many ways from competitive sports, such as aspiring to
improve and challenge themselves, set goals that are realistic, learning sportsmanship and respect for others. PE teacher Sharon Key said: “I was thrilled to receive the award on behalf of Stowford School. It shows how much the children enjoy competing and are proud to represent their school.”
CHOCOLATE FOCUS FOR FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT Fairtrade Fortnight is here! Look out for events across the two weeks in your Fairtrade town, the first in the South Hams to achieve Fairtrade status. Running from 27th February until 12th March, this year the focus in Ivybridge is chocolate. Events will highlight the difference that buying Fairtrade products makes to producers of some of our favourite foods. Two Ghanaian cocoa producers will visit Ivybridge Community College on 28th February to explain to students the positive effect buying Fairtrade chocolate has for farmers in producing
countries. Other events this year include: On Friday, 3rd March, the Coop is organising a Fairtrade Community Evening at the Erme Primary School from 7-9pm. There will be a chocolate-themed stall outside the Co-op in Glanvilles

HOUSING SEMINAR HEARS CONCERNS ABOUT MORE DEVELOPMENT Local countryside campaigners CPRE Devon hosted a seminar on new housing and the Plymouth & SW Devon Joint Local Plan on 10th February, at The Watermark. One hundred and sixty people from all across Devon attended the event, which included guest
speakers Gary Streeter MP and Tom Jones, lead planning officer on the joint local plan for South Hams District Council. Penny Mills from CPRE Devon said that the group was pleased to be able to hold the event on such an important subject.

Mill on Saturday, 4th March, and a Fairtrade service at St John’s Church, Blachford Road, on Sunday, 5th March, at 10.30am. Ivybridge Methodist Church will also be marking Fairtrade Fortnight on 12th March 12th, and there will be a display of Fairtrade books in Ivybridge Library. Ivybridge Fairtrade Group would like local people to help them reach 150 likes of its Facebook page by the end of the fortnight (12th March).
Attendees asked many probing questions concerning affordability for local people, housing numbers and the location of development. Many people also expressed their dismay at the loss of more of Devon’s green fields to housing development. The Ivybridge magazine

LOVE WAS IN THE AIR
There was a romantic feel to the February meeting of Ivybridge Flower Club. Members were taken on a journey of love, from the initial meeting, a romantic dinner for two, the wedding and then the honeymoon by Gretchen White, an area demonstrator from Bishopsteignton. She embraced her title, “the abundance of the season”, using a range of lovely, well-conditioned spring flowers and foliage to interpret her designs as she told the story. The next club meeting is on Monday, 13th March, at The Watermark at 7.30pm, when the demonstrator will be Catherine Gardener, a florist from Callington. Visitors are welcome, £6. ¢ Contact club chairman Hilary Newcombe on 01752 892647 Modern spring arrangement – see page 28

A BIG THANK YOU
The people of Ivybridge once again generously supported Ivybridge Rotary Club’s Santa Christmas collections in the run up to Christmas, helping them raise over £5,000. The club would like to thank everyone who helped with its pre-Christmas visits. The ageing Rotarians are indebted to Ivybridge Young Farmers, who they relied on heavily so that every street in Ivybridge could be visited over 12 long evenings. A special thank you also to Tesco Lee Mill, who allowed three days of collections outside their store on the final run up to Christmas. The festive fundraising raised a 6

The Ivybridge Royal British Legion branch was presented with the Crediton Cup at the recent Devon RBL County Conference. total of £5,617, which included £188 raised on one Wednesday evening by Ermington PreSchool, who ‘borrowed’ the sleigh and took it out into the village to raise funds. The money will be divided between President Ann Brooks’ chosen charities, MacMillan Cancer Support and Devon Air Ambulance, as well as other local Rotary causes. ¢ Find out more about Rotary by contacting Adrian D’Cunha at adrian.dcunha@virgin.net or find them on Facebook
NEW VENUE SOUGHT
Ivybridge Probus Club is on the hunt for a new venue for its monthly meetings, after the Smithaleigh Hotel, which had hosted the club for over 15 years, announced it was no longer able to. The club’s officers have produced a short-list of three possibilities, and with the co-operation of the venues concerned, it has been decided that the club will meet for the next three months at each of them in turn, before members decide on a new permanent venue. The club’s February meeting took place at Wrangaton Golf Club. After an excellent lunch, President Michael Greaves addressed a number of issues, including a reminder that the deadline was looming for the forthcoming trip to Roscoff. He also offered the club’s congratulations to Paul Jones,
recently awarded the Ivybridge ‘Citizen of the Year’ award. Other announcements included subscriptions remaining the same for 2017, confirmation from Keith Kiddell that the Ladies’ Spring Lunch will be held, as usual, at The Cottage Hotel at Hope Cove on the 26th April, and that the Christmas Ladies’ Lunch would be held at the Moorland Garden Hotel. Howard Webster announced details of a visit to the Devonport Theatre on 27th April to see ‘Company’, a musical set in New York. ¢ Contact secretary Bob Mailing on 01752 892255

The Clay Factory Diaries THE SLOW WAKE FROM HIBERNATION It’s hard to imagine that in little over a month’s time the landscape and scenery will be fully awake with spring features; indeed, those with the keenest of eyes will have already spotted the signs of spring that little bit earlier. Rogue daffodils are beginning to spring up from the frosty ground, keen to make those that see them feel that little bit warmer in the last of the winter months. Speaking of warmth, the sun has begun to shine that little bit warmer on the odd occasion it decides to grace us with its presence, tricking human and animal alike into thinking those winter winds and frosts are past. It’s a similar picture up at The Clay Factory, where things are starting to take shape as the building awakens from the winter slumber. Work is well underway on Phase 2 of RedPod Arts as shipping containers, arriving in the dead of night, being ready to be transformed into functional and stylish work space for the next cohort of artists moving into our beloved building. The commercial kitchen is having the finishing touches completed as our RedPod Food chef is itching to get in there cooking up seasonal dishes. If there is one thing we’ve learnt this winter it is that the best laid plans sometimes take a little longer than expected to come to fruition. In life, as in nature, it is sometimes tempting to be the ‘rogue daffodil’ sprouting up before your time is due. Well, with that in mind I guess you could say The Clay Factory is nearly ready to sprout and we hope to be sharing with you our exciting plans for spring and beyond as the seasons change from winter to spring. If you wish to discuss how you could benefit from using our space or have any ideas you want to share with us then contact us at enquiries@ thecatandthebox.co.uk or visit The Clay Factory on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.

SCHOOL REPORTS Robins and Wrens foundation children at Stowford School were transformed into characters from well-known nursery rhymes for ‘Once Upon a Rhyme’ day. The Queen of Hearts, Incy Wincy Spider and Old King Cole were just a few of the characters taking part in the many and varied themed activities. These included constructing Hickory Dickory clocks, making marshmallow mice and decorating biscuits to look like Incy Wincy spiders. Wrens also modelled musical Amelia, Hickory Dickory Dock; Aston, Patter Cake; Jack, Incy Wincy Spider; and Coral, The Queen of Hearts

biscuits as well as the junk modelling. Several Wrens commented how exciting it was to wear costumes to school and see their teachers in them too! It was a thoroughly fun and busy day full of creativity.”

Year 3 and 4 children at Manor Primary School took part in a special Anglo-Saxon themed activity day. Pupils came to school dressed in Anglo-Saxon costumes for the fun day of learning. The children learned about runes and riddles, worked with two- and four-figure co-ordinates to make maps, created huge collaborative Anglo-Saxon artworks and cooked cheese and poppy seed scones and vegetable and barley stew. At the end of the day, after listening to a traditional Saxon story, the children took part in a feast, eating the food they had made. Parents were invited to join in as part of a school-wide open day focussing on mastery – the ability to use and apply knowledge, explain thinking and solve problems.

wellness KEEP YOUR EYES ON YOUR ROAD
This month, I want to share with you the biggest objection we get at Devon Fit Camp says Claire Morgan-Hughes People worry about being the most unfit person to have ever turned up at one of our sessions... Walking into a fitness facility/gym – any gym – is really scary; in fact, walking into any room full of new people, doing something we’re unaccustomed to, is scary. When we’ve spent six months, a year, or longer, hiding behind our former fitness levels, or what we looked like at 16, we start to pretend not to know that we can’t carry on the way we’re going…
Stay in your own lane
At Devon Fit Camp, we have a little saying – “stay in your own lane”. This means keep your eyes on the journey you’re treading right now. Like any journey, the most important place you can look is where you are going. At DFC, all of our workouts are overseen by a qualified fitness coach – you are not left to your own devices like you can be at a gym. No matter if you’re the strongest, fittest, un-fittest, fattest, skinniest, workouts are tailored to where you are on your journey. And if there’s anything even remotely technical, our amazing coaches have an awesome way of breaking things down. It is good to talk, too. A member may come in following a poor night’s sleep. After a conversation with their coach, they’ll be given an alternative to the group workout as we can see that they need a little TLC. They will be in their own lane, and learned that it’s totally OK to ask for help, too. So, if you’re scared of being super unfit, or being the biggest person in the room, I say good – at least you’d be in the right room.
Couples membership
Our couples membership, to encourage you to bring your best friend, partner or someone you’d love to workout alongside, has space for 10 more people. We guarantee a happier, healthier and fitter household – simply quote #couples and you’ll receive one half price membership when you buy a three month membership at DFC. 18

Nic Costiff demonstrates rolling
LET LIGHT INTO YOUR LIFE Is it just the dark, cold winter days making you feel down ask Yvonne and Diane of Ivy Counselling / Brighter Futures
FOAM ROLLING
You may have seen them in the gym. You may have even seen people rolling on them! But what do they do? Nic Costiff explains Foam rollers are becoming an increasingly popular fitness accessory and many people report great improvements in their performance when using them. But how do they make a difference? Every day postures, such as sitting at a desk or driving for a long time, as well as sport and gym work, place increased demands on our bodies. Muscles become overloaded and respond by developing tension points and stiffness. This is where foam rolling can help. By rolling over the areas of tension, you can with recovery after training, reduce the risk of injury and relieve muscle tension. Peak Performance magazine highlights a scientific review in 2015 reporting that foam rolling has several benefits. Firstly, it has been shown that they are effective at increasing joint range of movement by releasing muscle tension. In a recent study, knee joint range of movement increased by 10% following five sets of 20 seconds rolling at the front of the thighs. A second benefit is the reduction in post-exercise muscle soreness 24-48hrs after a session or race. Along with compression garments and ice baths, foam rolling has also been used to reduce this muscle soreness. If you want to try foam rolling, have a look at my website cornwoodphysiotherapy.co.uk - where you can view some great workouts to help reduce muscle tension and relieve muscle soreness after exercise. If you have an injury, you are advised to
seek physiotherapy advice prior to foam rolling. Give it a go, and see the benefits for yourself.
FACE YOUR FLYING FEAR Fear of flying can make people dread a holiday, but it doesn’t have to says Tiffany Armitage It’s the time of the year when many people are beginning to book their holidays. We all need that important break in routine, with time away to relax and have fun. Sadly, for some the thought of flying can make them dread a holiday, ruin trips, and even stop them visiting loved ones. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to start booking and even looking forward to your next trip? If this is you, perhaps Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help. As a hypnotherapist, I help people feel calmer, confident and more relaxed about that next flight. It’s such a joy to receive a postcard from a client who’s been able to enjoy their holiday, visit to family, or even emigration, without worry. And it makes it so much easier for those travelling with them, too. In some cases, fear of flying can take just three or four sessions to get on top of. I use specific techniques to target the phobic response, allowing the brain to process the experience in a new, more helpful way. In some cases the person may require a few more sessions – for example when the person is also suffering from a more generalised anxiety that is contributing to the fear of the whole travel experience. SFH is professional, modern and safe tool. It may be that while reading this you are wondering if I could also help you with a
Has it really been the dark, cold and grey days of January and February that are leaving you feeling below par, low in mood, depressed or anxious? Or is there an underlying reason that you do not want to face, or do not recognise as being the real cause of why you are struggling at the moment?
Is it really the time of year? This is a common conversation that we find ourselves having both inside and out of the counselling room – people blaming the time of year and the weather for their mood – when all too often this is a mask for what is going on in their lives, the real root cause for their symptoms. What can you do about it? The answer is simple – look deeply within yourself; are you happy with your life as it is? Is something having an impact on the way you are feeling or behaving? Are you finding it difficult to motivate yourself, trouble sleeping, etc? If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these, or you have other thoughts or feelings that are not normal for you, then counselling could be your way forward to a happier and brighter spring. New Ivybridge household waste recycling centre
Devon County Council’s new stateof-the-art Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Ivybridge will open at around 11.30am, on Wednesday, 1st March. The new Ermington Road facility, situated opposite Ivybridge FC and the tennis centre, will serve communities including Ivybridge, South Brent and Modbury, as well as surrounding villages like Yealmpton, Brixton and Wembury. It will replace the facility at Bridge Court, which is too small to serve the needs of the community. The new site’s split-level layout will make it easier to access the waste containers and the site is designed to allow for the waste containers to be changed over
COUNTYMATTERS By Ivybridge’s County Councillor Roger Croad without the need to temporarily close the site, which caused extensive delays and queuing at the old facility. A long access road will mean that vehicles will no longer queue along Ermington Road during peak periods of activity or when containers are being changed – this has been time-consuming, annoying and unsafe for other road users. The new facility is expected to receive in excess of 5,000 tonnes of household waste per annum. The facility includes a dedicated sales building and yard area, where re-usable items can be

purchased; it’s amazing what some people throw away! Dedicated facilities will be available for householders to recycle glass, paper, cardboard, cans, textiles, wood, garden waste and plastic bottles. Clean mixed plastic packaging, engine oil, vegetable oil, and lead-acid batteries, domestic batteries, fridges, televisions, fluorescent tubes, domestic appliances and electrical equipment, mobile phones and gas cylinders can also be recycled. From October to end of March the site will be open 9am-4.30pm Monday to Friday, and 10amseeking to help a large outdoor/ garden project for the year. We have people power and plants available and are inviting proposals from local schools, organisations or good causes who need help with development. Please contact Matt Pollard or myself at Endsleigh on 01752 898989 for further details. We can also offer support, in the form of gift card donations for fundraising purposes to local schools, community organisations and registered charities. Please get in touch to see if we can help.

I’m absolutely delighted to be able to deliver this modern facility to make the process of disposing household waste much more convenient and much safer – it should also up the recycling rate from around 60% to over 80% (about 1,000 tonnes to be sold on rather than burnt , at a cost). This is my third major pledge to come to fruition during my time in office – a new library, no more landfill for South Devon, and now a new Household Waste Recycling Centre. Advance (medical) directives • What are they? • Who needs one? David Richardson, founder of Richardsons Legal Services
An advance medical directive, also known as a ‘living Will’, gives instructions to your hospital about treatment you do not wish to have. One copy is lodged with the hospital who keeps your medical records, one copy is kept with your GP and one by yourself. Further copies can be supplied to you to give to trusted friends. A living Will can state that you refuse to have invasive treatment, as well as relate to conditions such as: “No reasonable likelihood of substantial recovery from illness involving severe pain and distress with a very limited life expectancy”, or, “to be in a state of unconsciousness or coma and being unlikely to regain consciousness”, or, “lasting brain damage from injury or stroke”. It will then go on to say what
treatments you are unwilling to accept, such as “invasive resuscitation”. A living Will is a document that any qualified Will writer can write, and they are not overly expensive. These days, most people over 60 have already got, or are planning to get, a Lasting Power of Attorney to give someone they trust the authority to deal with their finances and fight their battles for health and care should they lose mental capacity. This is very important, but it must be remembered that if you have an advance (medical) directive, a full Lasting Power of Attorney will invalidate this if made after the directive written and a new one will have to be made. Making an advance (medical) directive after a Lasting Power of Attorney, however, does not invalidate the LPA. For more information contact Richardsons Legal Services on 0800 014 8031. MONEY MATTERS with Ivybridge Accountants Ltd Taking on your first employee is an exciting step. But there are plenty of things to bear in mind, says Simon Jilks
Employing your first worker hopefully means things are going well and you need help to meet demand. But there are a multitude of issues to contend with when you become an employer. It is against the law to pay below the national minimum/living wage rates. These are going up this April 2017 to: apprentice £3.50; under 18 £4.05; 18-20 £5.60; 21-24 £7.05; and finally the living wage to £7.50, which applies to over 25s. When you employ someone, you must create a PAYE scheme with HMRC. Every time you pay your staff you must run payroll, giving them a payslip, calculating any deductions, such as tax and National Insurance, and report this to HMRC online. You must

then pay over any deductions you have made to HMRC by the 22nd of the following month. It may be that you have employees who are not earning enough to suffer deductions, but you must still report their wages to HMRC every time they are paid. Therefore, it may make sense to pay staff monthly, rather than weekly! It is also becoming mandatory for every employer to offer pensions under auto-enrolment rules. This is a whole topic in itself, but, in essence, it will mean that every employee will have the right to enrol into a work-place pension and you may end up contributing to it. My wife is a HR officer and she is always reminding me staff have rights too! They are entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay, Statutory Sick Pay and holiday pay (minimums apply) to name a few. It is important contracts are in place. I hope this hasn’t put you off potentially employing anyone. We offer payroll services should you want any assistance. Initial meeting free.

Jo Caulfield
Have you ever noticed that even when you’re right, you’re wrong? From the potential minefields of dating, relationships and divorce, to the simple things like booking a holiday, or joining a pub-quiz team – nothing is ever as straightforward as it should be. Jo Caulfield is determined to get things back on track with her tour aptly entitled ‘The Customer Is Always Wrong’ on Saturday 11 February. Award-winning standup comedian Jo Caulfield takes a humorous look at life’s potential traps, what can go wrong and how to deal with them (and, in some cases, how to make everyone else suffer with you). This is a 90 minute laugh-out-loud show, full of razor-sharp observations; sharp, witty and insightful, Jo will make you think as much as she makes you laugh – you won’t be disappointed. THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918

RECOUNTING LIFE IN THE TOWN O OO REMEMBERING THE FALLEN
T
he Battle of the Somme raged through July, August and on into the autumn of 1916; it dominates this month’s piece and September’s too. As the casualties mounted, people at home began to receive news of loved ones killed, missing or injured. News of extreme gallantry also reached south Devon. In late July, Private Theodore Veale from Dartmouth, who was serving with the 8th Devons, risked his own life on a number of occasions as he went out into ‘No Man’s Land’ trying to rescue one of his officers, Lieutenant Eric Savill. Eventually, Veale was successful in bringing the badly wounded officer safely back (a full account of this appears in my book South Devon in the Great War). For these actions Veale was promoted to corporal and awarded the Victoria Cross; one of only two VCs awarded to the Devonshire Regiment during the whole war. No doubt news of his gallantry helped to

cheer people when it reached home. There is more to this story than first appears, however. Last month, I wrote about Lieutenant Savill’s quick thinking and initiative which saved the lives of many C Company soldiers on the first day of the battle. Was Veale from C Company and, if so, does this help explain his immediate willingness to try to rescue Savill? I would like to think so, but so far no evidence has been found to support this idea. After the war, Theodore Veale became a fireman in Dartmouth – local people say he was always first up the ladder! Eric Savill graduated from Cambridge University, became a surveyor and eventually took the post of Deputy Ranger of the parks at Royal Windsor. He was knighted in 1955. Both men died in 1980 and the Veale-Savill garden in Dartmouth was opened in 2002. Next month, I shall write about some of the Ivybridge soldiers and their role in this battle.

If using pebbles or glass beads place them in the bottom of the vase. Spear each bulb on opposite sides to make a frame to place on the top of the vase. Fill with water, so that the ends of the roots are in water. If placed on a window sill the flowers appear to float on air. Once the flowers have finished, plant the bulbs in the garden to enjoy next spring.
Throughout February we ran a ‘Blind Date with a Book’ fundraiser in aid of Moorvision, who provide support and activities for blind and visually impaired children. We are pleased to announce that, as of 11th February, we had already raised £90. Thank you to everyone who donated, wrapped and read the books! Other involvement includes donating fruit weekly to Artistik Storytime Children’s Playgroup and also saving up all of our black flower buckets for Newton Ferrers Primary School, who need them to help with a potato growing project. Next month, we will be announcing our next three membership charities so you can choose where your 1% goes!

PLASTERER
FOR QUALITY AND RELIABILITY
By Kim Taylor-Lewis, Community Champion Part of my role as community champion is to utilise the store to enable local groups to fundraise. This can be offering a raffle prize, bag packing, awareness days, even carol singing at Christmas. We had two bag packs in February, which raised over £800 for the respective groups . We also hosted a charity cycle with Ivybridge Police to raise money for Crimestoppers, cycling over 200 miles and raising more than £200. Eat Happy project Tesco Lee mill sponsored Woodlands Park Primary School’s ‘Handa’s Surprise’ fruit salad making. I hope the reception children and their parents enjoyed making and eating their lovely fruit salads. Sixty children from Yealmpton Primary School came to the store for the sustainability trail this month, which links with the curriculum, so lots of learning and lots of fun.
