F FEATURE Fun4FirstCoastKids.com Hi! We’re Terri Mashour and Susie Mashour Rawlins from Fun4FirstCoastKids.com and we’re thrilled to take over BUZZ Magazine for their April Kids Issue! We have owned and operated Fun4FirstCoastKids.com since 2013. It is the No. 1 FREE local website for Northeast Florida families. It lists almost 4,000 resources for families like dance classes, sports programs, special needs programs, preschools and childcare centers, local events, and right now all the Easter and Egg Hunt events and hundreds of summer camps! Families love following our social media pages, where we do multiple fun giveaways weekly and share ideas for free fun. Fun4FirstCoastKids.com is a one stop shop for families in Jacksonville. We are a sister team that loves researching fun and free things to do in Jacksonville with our own children to make it easy for busy families to find fun. Being born and raised in Jacksonville, we visited local museums growing up, frequented the Regency Branch Library, hung out at the local skating place, played beach volleyball on our local beaches, and went to the very first Jaguars games. We love sharing the local inside scoop for Jacksonville families and tourists.
TOP 5 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT SUSIE: 1. Susie is a former Duval County Elementary school teacher having taught both Kindergarten and Third Grade. 2. She loves all things food— cooking, eating and more eating! 3. She loves being active outside and frequents the local beaches, scouring them for sharks’ teeth to add to her collection.
are her favorite.
4. She loves watching sports and playing sports. Volleyball and golf
5. Even though she loves to travel, she is also a homebody and loves spending time exploring Jax with her husband Chris and son Owen.
TOP 5 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT TERRI: 1. Terri is a Florida fire ecologist that worked almost a decade in local forests alongside cowboys. She has conducted close to 100 prescribed burns and worked many wildfires. 2. She loves to travel and once hiked a volcano in Guatemala. 3. She loves all things sports and exercise. She loves beach volleyball and has run two marathons and four half marathons, but Oprah Winfrey’s marathon time has her beat. 4. She is an author! Her book, “100 Backcountry Hikes: Hiking the Trails of Florida’s Water Management Districts,” comes out this year. 5. Upon recently watching the Trolls Movie with her family, her kids have decided she is a troll: she sings and dances all the time and her hair sticks up in the air in the morning, just like Poppy!
Susie and I were honored to be invited to take over BUZZ Magazine for April! We’re sharing everything we know about fun events, springs, sports, arts, music, spring festivals, and yummy kid’s recipes. We want to thank you for taking some time to read through by doing a giveaway! Tag us on Instagram with #Fun4FirstCoastKidsBuzz in the month of April for the chance to win 4 tickets to Crayola Experience in Orlando or 4 tickets to Wild Adventures! We’ll pick two winners the first week of May to win one or the other. Enjoy your family time! Terri and Susie 6

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO START YOUR BUSINESS?
HOW DO YOU BALANCE HAVING TWINS AND BEING A MOMPRENEUR?
HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK AND FAMILY LIFE BEING A WOMAN SMALL BUSINESS OWNER?
I brought my son Conner to a couple of mommy & me places when he was about 14 months old. I was personally very bored with them after a few weeks. My friend Angela told me about the My Gym she attended in Pasadena, which was about 40 minutes from me. She said I would love it! Songs, Dances, Swings, Bubbles, story time. I said, “I drive by a place called My Gym every day. I wonder if that’s the same thing?” I took Conner there and fell in love with it. In just six months I noticed such a difference in him. From his attention span, upper body strength and cognitive development, I knew I wanted to share this enrichment to everyone. I looked into a franchise. Jacksonville being my hometown and such a great community, I jumped on the opportunity 14 years ago.
Being a mother and woman in business are extremely important to me, and by default I am the most prominent role model for my daughters. I am all for raising strong women with kind hearts and creative minds.
I had always been very active and worked hard, studied hard, traveled a lot—no boring moments! When Monica and I created Bay & Bee, our second child was around 1-year-old. Neither child slept through the night. We had to learn how to deal with two small children (each), households, pets, schools, activities and a very demanding business. Sleep deprived, little ones with us (no daycares or babysitters until they were over 2), researching, contracting, interviewing, managing, scheduling, ordering, greeting, training... oh, boy!
Military spouse, mom of two and lover of friendships. I grew up in New Jersey and then moved to San Diego to be with my husband who is active duty military. We lived in San Diego for several years before moving to Florida. I graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Liberal Studies: Elementary Education. I enjoy exploring new places, walking a nice trail and trying new food. HOW DO YOU BALANCE LIFE AS A MOM WITH RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS? I can’t say that there is a balance with life as a mom and running my own business. I’m a mompreneur that works around my children’s and family’s needs. Of course, I dedicate time to get done what needs to get done, but I absolutely make sure to set aside at the minimum 2 hours a day to focus on work. If my kids need me or want to go play outside, then that’s what we do. The work will be there when they go to sleep. Then I can tackle it without any distractions. Probably my best thinking time anyway. HOW IS FIT4MOM DIFFERENT THAN OTHER EXERCISE PROGRAMS? FIT4MOM is like no other program out there. It is the country’s largest mom fitness group with over 250 franchises. We focus on our moms’ needs physically and emotionally. We create an atmosphere that is a safe place for them and their children. Our moms bond, our children bond, we share stories, we sweat together and we cry together. It truly is a village. Aside from the friendships that we all make, our moms come to class to get an amazing workout. We ask all moms to keep their children in their strollers, it is the safest place for their children. Each class is engaging, educational and entertaining for our children. You would be surprised at how much our children pick up by coming to class.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK AND FAMILY LIFE? That is very tricky! I have not mastered it yet. The biggest obstacle is not feeling guilty. With having three of my own kids and over 600 kids that go to My Gym, I physically can’t be where everyone would like me. Being intentional, time management and communication help, not to mention I have an amazing team who have been with me for up to eight years. HOW IS MY GYM JACKSONVILLE DIFFERENT THAN OTHER INDOOR PLAY SPACES? First off, the My Gym Staff is like no other! They absolutely have a love and passion for our youth. They constantly are learning and growing every year. This ensures they don’t get stagnant so they can give the best to our My Gym Jacksonville Families which they deserve! The My Gym Classes are geared to help children enhance every part of a child’s development through fun activities. We purify the air with essential oils and the last class of the day should be just as clean as the first. We believe you deserve 100 percent.
Donne’ Ordile Pump It Up Jacksonville • PumpItUpParty.com /Jacksonville-FL
HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO OPEN PUMP IT UP JAX? I am a pediatric physical therapist. Prior to having my own kids, I worked with special needs kids at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Nemours. I know that movement and exercise is essential for development of all kids. Play paired with physical movement helps develop social, emotional, cognitive and behavioral skills in ALL children. PIU allows me to continue working with children in a positive way. We offer bounce times for special needs kids, including our sensory jump times every Tuesday mornings with early steps. PIU offers a safe atmosphere for all kids to play.
HOW IS POD DIFFERENT THAN OTHER INDOOR PLAY SPACES? Pod advocates differentiated learning and play because each child and parent are unique. We focus on wellness, arts, and fun! Energetic tiny beings need more than just heaps of physical movement. They require fine motor development, artistic expression, unstructured playtime, and a sense of order and routine. They thrive in an environment that allows freedom to explore, move, innovate, and to just BE. As a certified educator, an artist, a wellness professional, and mother, my goals is to help families raise amazing human beings that are confident, smart, loving, and innovative. I welcome anyone intrigued to visit and see for themselves the amazing things that happen every day at Pod! WHAT MEMBERSHIP SPECIALS DO YOU HAVE RUNNING RIGHT NOW AND WHAT CLASSES DO YOU HAVE? Some of the Pod classes include: -Bach to Rock School of Music classes -Groovaroo (babywearing dance fitness) -PlayFIT (personal training powered by Momentum Wellness) -Broadway Babies/Play N Motion (toddler dance) We also have wonderful art educators’ series and new events/classes being introduced every month! Currently, Pod is also taking registration for its first Summer Camp, which will be mornings from 9 to 11:45 a.m. weekdays. Come play at Pod!
I’m a perfectionist on top of it. My house needs to be spotless, I cook 1-2 hot homemade meals for my family every single day, and I like to stay fit. Bay & Bee gave me a different perspective (after years with a full-time job), being able to work in my own time—well, all the time. Even though I can’t close the door at 5, I can surely spend time with my family, arranging work around kids’ naps and activities, as well as plan travels with the help of my amazing business partner. TELL US ABOUT BAY AND BEE. Bay & Bee is a locally owned eco-friendly indoor play space and shop inspired by Montessori and Waldorf educational principles to create a wonderful play environment. Our Playspace contains a wonderful community of people. Besides great people, we have great things. Every object was carefully selected to help develop fine and gross motor skills, as well as cognitive and emotional development. The environment is designed to meet the needs, interests, abilities and development of the children birth to 5 years old. Bay & Bee offers a variety of classes (kids yoga, creative dance, arts & crafts, music, story time, nature exploration and more), parenting workshops (nutrition talks, behavioral sessions, breastfeeding support, play dates, and more) and activities (baby racing, bubbles, etc.). Bay & Bee is a fantastic place to meet new friends for children, parents and grandparents alike.
ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SPORT AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION, TODDLERS NEED 30 MINUTES OF EXERCISE A DAY. HOW CAN PUMP IT UP HELP WITH EXERCISE FOR TODDLERS? At PIU, children of all ages can run, climb, and bounce in a safe atmosphere and get the recommended daily exercise. Our bounces also provide kids with different sensory and vestibular environments. This allows development of these two systems. WHAT UPCOMING EVENTS/SPECIALS/PARTY SPECIALS DO YOU HAVE AT PUMP IT UP?
HOW CAN YOU HELP OTHER MOM BUSINESS OWNERS OR WORKING MOMS IN THE MOM/FAMILY BALANCE? I love partnering and marketing with other local businesses. We can all help each other promote and attract new customers. Visit Fun4FirstCoastKids.com for all things kids
We have started offering field trips to students ages K-5. Our field trips include a class aligned with the FL common core. Teachers can pick from three different classes, health, cardiovascular, or gravity. We have had fantastic feedback from several schools on these field trips. The former state senator Tony Hill recently put together a celebration in downtown Jacksonville to celebrate native son James Weldon Johnson and the song he and his brother, Rosamond, wrote, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” That song was originally written for students at Stanton, where Johnson taught and served as principal. It spread nationwide and went on to become the civil rights anthem for African-Americans seeking equality. “Johnson had an amazing impact,” says Hill. “He was an attorney, a diplomat, a Broadway songwriter, consul to two Latin American countries. He deserves wider recognition in his own hometown.” So Hill has joined with former School Board member Constance Hall and Lloyd Washington of the Durkeeville Historical Society to create a memorial for Johnson at the place of his birth in the downtown LaVilla neighborhood. MAKING A DIFFERENCE nonprofit leaders in our community
Kate Amato courageously waged war on rhabdomyosarcoma for two and a half years. Her light shined brightly through chemo, radiation and immunotherapy. She helped researchers develop better treatments and was an inspiration to all who came in contact with her. Kate’s smile, funny faces, loving spirit and beautiful voice touched thousands of lives. With your help, the funds raised will establish a foundation in her name.
THE KATE AMATO FOUNDATION Kate’s Crusade - The Cancer Fighting Video Game will be a fun and free game proposed in memory of Kate to help other patients fight their cancer. Studies have shown that imagery can help heal disease, and with this game, cancer patients will be able to visualize their cancer and be the one who attacks it. The game won’t end until the patient is cancer free! To learn more, visit Facebook.com/support.TeamKate

Mentoring Mamas • MentoringMamas.com Mentoring Mamas is a group that helps other Mompreneurs grow their businesses and provide support for moms that are doing this with kids. Local Jacksonville mom, Felicia Wright, is the owner of Mygani marketing firm and creator of Mentoring Mamas. She’s a work from home mom, a military mom, and guru of ways to create income for her family while still spending time with her daughter, Savannah. “I wanted to create a platform where moms who have their own business or were interested in starting one felt comfortable in an environment with other like-minded individuals,” said Wright. “We have monthly meetings where we encourage and empower one another not only with our businesses, but personally as well. The program has three areas of focus: confidence, connections, and community. One of my main goals is to encourage moms to grow not only as parents and business owners, but as individuals.”

BUZZ: What is your main focus at the firm? Our main practice revolves around Chapter 11 bankruptcy. We will also work with individuals who need help restructuring or liquidating.
BUZZ: What type of reasons do people file bankruptcy? It depends on your situation. Lately personal bankruptcy is filed because people lose their jobs. We have businesses in this current economy that are going through a crisis. A lot of business owners take their personal assets and dump them into the company hoping to make it another month. Sometimes things just don’t turn around. It may be best for them to consider it before they waste all of their personal assets.
FREE CONSULTATIONS
BUZZ: Do you charge for a consultation? We normally don’t charge to talk to you. Bankruptcy has a bad stigma especially when it comes up for businesses. If you consider it early enough, it may be able to save the business, save the jobs and hopefully save themselves.
PATERNITY
BUZZ: What is your one tip that you might give someone who is looking at filing for bankruptcy? Get all of your financials together. Not just for businesses but for individuals as well. Ignorance is out there. It’s just not knowing. Looking at your bank account online is not just good enough. If you don’t know your financials, there is nobody in the world that’s going to know because you will have to explain them, even to an attorney, what your debt is. Prepare early and prepare the worst and pray and hope for the best.

“In my opinion, the greatest challenge we have is the myriad of different types of cases we can handle successfully,” said Brian Moore. “We can handle personal injury, 1st Amendment cases, estate matters, complex civil litigation, sexual abuse, and maritime law, such cases against major cruise lines, to name a few. John Sefton and Austin Dragoo handle the transactional side of our practice, as well. We have the challenge to meet high standards in each case’s respective lane, so to speak.”

The Bulger Firm My first priority is in relentlessly advocating for my clients’ best interests, but I also strive to go beyond litigation by offering support in all areas of their lives.
The Law Office of Joseph Scone I help them to get the veterans’ benefits that they need and help them find creative ways to get around the difficulties that returning veterans face.
Why did you choose to go into law? Really, one of my mentors growing up was an attorney. During undergrad I took some business law classes and really liked it, and decided that’s what I wanted to do.
What is your specific field of law? Business Law/Corporate Law on the transactional side.
The Law Office of Barry W. Kaufman, PL I try to get them the result that they’re looking for, as quickly and economically as possible. I deal with my clients on a one on one basis.
Blume & Rowland, PLLC We keep them informed during their case, and try to do a good job in helping them make the best decision for their case as opposed to what’s best for us as their attorney.
How do you set yourself apart from other firms in the area? We’re a small firm, just me and my law partner. We keep our overhead low, we go to them instead of
the other way around, we try to stay away from traditional hourly billing by using a flat fee model depending on what client needs for the year, and we try to build that long-term relationship. We don’t want to be the “one and done” attorneys.
How do you stay connected to the Jacksonville community? Are you involved in any local organizations? I’m a founding member of Downtown Rotaract, though I’ve now aged out. Currently I’m in the Southside Businessmen’s Club and considering joining Meninak.

What are your goals for the future with the firm? So right now, we’re 6 lawyers and looking to grow. We’re actually opening a new office in Ponte Vedra which will give us some space to grow. In our current location we’re kind of limited to our growth. And so that’s something we’re looking to do in 2017 and 2018 is grow our practice a little bit more. 12

POLICY TIPS & TRICKS Tiffany Poore The Law Office of Tiffany H. Poore 25 N. Market St. Jacksonville, FL 32202 (904) 395-2293 TiffanyPooreLaw.com
How did your firm start up?
I’ve been in private practice for a few years, but I worked part time from home and recently, as of last week, I decided it was time to move back downtown to a real cool space that was just renovated, it’s called Level Office, and it’s the old Public Defender’s Office.
What made you get into criminal defense?
It was never originally what I thought I was going to do when I was in law school, but it just happened. I had a friend working at the Public Defender’s Office who suggested I apply and, immediately, I fell in love with the work. Sometimes it’s very difficult; you don’t get a lot of thanks, but it’s fulfilling. It’s good work, and I really enjoy doing it, and that’s why I decided to continue doing it in private practice. IAN A. BROWN
Ian A. Brown, P.L. 1205 Beach Blvd, Ste 1 Jacksonville Beach, Florida (904)517-9494 BrownBrothersRealty.com What areas of practice does your firm focus on?
We are a title & escrow closing firm in both the commercial and residential areas. We can support the real estate process from precontracting to closing.
How did you get started as a Title & Escrow firm?
I was a licensed broker for 10 years before I went to law school. After law school, I went to work for a commercial broker who focused on hotel/motel closings and was consistently asked by friends and associates to help them with other commercial and residential transactions and closings. After about a year I went ahead and became a preferred attorney with Old Republic and have been doing commercial and residential transactions and closings ever since.
Are you both a Real Estate Appraiser and an Attorney?
Yes, I am a broker, real estate appraiser and an attorney. I still do commercial real estate brokerage and appraisals, and I do title work and closings for both residential and commercial. I have an equal amount of experience in both fields and believe I have a leg up on the transactions as I understand both sides of any contract and situations. ARTS UNLEASHED Moisés Ramos MoisesRamos.wixsite.com
Moisés Ramos is a Puertorican educator and artist in Jacksonville. He has been selected Teacher of the Year several times. His devoted work with the community and students also deemed him the recipient of the 2009 Memphis Wood Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2010 Cultural Council Annual Art Educator Award. Ramos works as a dual Language Arts teacher and with Cathedral Arts Project. He also volunteers as an art and photography teacher with the refugee students in Duval County. As an artist, he has been awarded numerous times for his mixed media, engravings, and black and white photography. Ramos said his work is mostly about experimentation. He likes to create artwork from things that have no value or meaning anymore, and give them a new context. “Most of my work plays with the human condition and how it is affected by time and emotions,” said Ramos. “I try to convey that feeling in every piece and confront the viewer with it.”

Five Ways to Encourage Your Child to Swim Austin Rhyne, Founder & CEO Mobile Swim School, LLC
1. Take Your Time It is tempting to start swim lessons as early as possible, but it is equally important that you allow your child to come into his/her own with the water. We want to build a healthy, long-term relationship with swimming and that takes time! 2. Know Your Swimmer As a parent, you know your child better than anyone and you can use that expertise to help. What are your child’s strengths and how can you help him/her develop those traits? 3. Adapt to Their Needs

Building a healthy relationship with swimming starts with a happy foundation. Try to make swimming as inviting as possible. Bring a favorite toy with you to the water. You can create an environment conducive to your child’s learning by considering the length of lesson, teaching style, and location.
This course combines interactive online simulation learning plus an in-person classroom session to learn and practice critical lifesaving skills for certification. camp pump it up

4. Start with the Basics
@asquaredb
Depending on age, start with the basics and work slowly but steadily from there. After your child is acclimated to the water, try to work through several tasks together: sit on the steps, kick your feet, wet your hair, hold your breath, hold onto the wall.
Yogurt of every variety! Kid, adult, Greek, frozen, smoothie—doesn’t matter. He’ll eat it!
5. Invest in a Quality Program Hiring a swim coach is a go-to for many parents. Coaches/instructors understand the mechanisms of every stroke. Investing in a swim program also provides a structured, class-like environment where both you and child can confidently learn.

Preparing for Your Child’s First Dental Exam
ASK THE DOC
HEALTH SPOTLIGHT
Dr. Matt Bright
Bright Smiles Pediatric Dentistry
BUZZ: What is a dental health
WeLoveBrightSmiles.com
Regular dental check-ups are crucial to the healthy development of your child’s teeth. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) suggests that you take your child for their first dental exam either when their first tooth appears, or no later than their first birthday. Going to the dentist for the first time, however, can make even the most easy-going child nervous. Here are some ways to help your child prepare for his or her very first dental exam. CLEAN: Between six months and one year of age, your child’s first teeth will begin to erupt from the gums. Before teeth begin to erupt, you can clean the gums with a warm wash cloth. As the teeth erupt, you can begin to brush them with a soft bristled toothbrush and a very small amount of fluoridated tooth paste (about the size of a grain of rice). Be sure you don’t put your child to sleep with a bottle of milk or formula as this can lead to tooth decay. PRACTICE: It’s never too early to start teaching your child good dental habits. While it would be difficult for a baby to brush their own teeth, you can demonstrate the motions and let them start to imitate you. SCHEDULE: If possible, try to schedule your child’s first dental appointment for a morning. This way they’ll be well-rested and more cooperative.
PREPARE: Babies are very perceptive of your attitude and energy. Be sure to relax about your child’s first dental visit. If you’re anxious about the appointment, your child will pick up on it and be less cooperative with the dentist. Spend some time talking to your baby about the dentist. Even if they can’t understand exactly what you’re telling them, it will help you to feel more relaxed. GET BRIGHT! Dr. Matt Bright is an expert pediatric dentist. A member of several academies and associations of pediatric dentists, Dr. Bright has many years of education and experience working with children. He’s also a father of two children himself. So, if it’s time for your child’s first dental exam, set up your appointment!
fact parents are often surprised to learn? DOC: Baby’s teeth are at risk for decay! Often referred to as “baby bottle tooth decay,” tooth decay in babies and toddlers often occurs in the upper front teeth.
BUZZ: How can you prevent
cavities on your children’s teeth? DOC: Make sure you start cleaning your children’s teeth as soon as they come in. You can use a moist gauze pad if it is too early to use a toothbrush. Also, be sure to schedule an appointment with me, as soon as the first tooth erupts.
BUZZ: How can you keep your
children engaged in keeping their mouth healthy? DOC: Print out the 2017 MouthHealthyKids.org brushing calendar to keep your children accountable for their twice-daily brushing. Watch Elmo’s “BrushyBrush” video to get kids excited about cleaning their teeth. Learn and sing along to the “7 Tooth Brushing Tunes for Kids” – they’re great for the car, at home, before brushing, or any time! Integrate excitement and fun into your children’s daily brushing routine to make this activity a joy for the whole family.
STRAWBERRY AND BLUEBERRY PICKING
Visit Fun4FirstCoastKids.com for more information. 1. Go early in the morning! You definitely want to get there before it gets too hot. The bushes are low to the ground and there is no shade. 2. Bring the proper protective gear. Bring a hat, sunscreen and even an umbrella for shade. Also, bring closed toed shoes with socks as the fields could be muddy from watering or rain. 3. Bring snacks. Be prepared with water and snacks. Many of the farms are far from stores. 4. What to pick. Pick strawberries that have no white on the tops. Pick blueberries that are the large ones that are deep blue, plump and juicy. 5. Go with the flow. You might want to pick buckets and buckets of blueberries or strawberries, but your family might be done after one small bucket. Just go with the flow. Take a break, change a diaper, or have a snack. 6. Yours for the picking. Be sure to bring cash in case the farms don’t take credit cards. Many farms charge between $2.50 - $5.00 per pound. One bucket holds about 5 pounds.

The Oyster Jam Music Festival • Southeast US Boat Show April 22-23
April 21-23
Living coastal in Florida and Georgia is steeped in a long-held tradition of hospitality and entertainment that evolved around the oyster.
Roasting oysters over an open fire, live music and cold beer add up to be about the best thing that anyone can do right here on the river bank. There is no better place to enjoy sway’n, slurp’n and shuck’n then at Metro Park and Marina on April 22-23rd at The Oyster Jam Music Festival.
The Fifth Annual Oyster Jam Music Festival has eclectic music with a nice mix of styles so everyone can sway the afternoon away. Saturday performances start with the dance team from Showtime USA Jax followed by Brent Byrd, The Rip Currents, Dirty Petes, Austin Park, Emma Moseley Band, Ginger Beard Man and Propaganjah. Sunday has a good mix of local favorites including; Catch The Groove, Mama Blue, Firewater Tent Revival, Kim Reteguiz and the Black Cat Bones, Parker Urban Band, J Collins and the Jason Evans Band.
The folks that come out every year already know the bands are just a small part of the fun, especially when you take in the events that go on inside #theoysterjam. The Shuck’n Contest has competitors from as far away as Panama City, Apalachicola and even Maine who compete for $300 in CASH and prizes. Since the first shuck’n contest in 2013, the winners have all been within seconds of the title. Make sure to come out by 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, to see the action.
There are some exotic tastes for those who only enjoy cooked oysters.. Chef X from Xclusively Kissed Intimate Catering won the PRIZE MONEY last year with a Caribbean Jerk Oyster with a Tropical Sauce and she is returning this year to attempt to hold on to that title. The Oyster Cook-off on Sunday, April 23rd starting at 11 a.m., is the most talked about event inside The Oyster Jam. All the oyster cooking pros including caterers, restaurants and chefs come together to show-off their best oyster and set up the Oyster Cook-off Competition. You can help judge these amazing treats and vote for the Crowd Pleaser Award. Also, come out and meet the celebrity judges that will select the Grand Prize Winner of this prestigious award and WIN some cash.
A boat-load of oysters is consumed during this three-day event. Ok, they come in gourmet trucks but you get the picture. The Oyster Jam is very proud to have collected more than 19,500 lbs of shells to recycle back into healthy thriving living oysters bars that filter area waters up to fifty gallons per oyster per day. The Oyster Jam would like to thank Andrea Noel and the team at Northeast Florida Aquatic Preserves and Guana Tolomato Matanzas Research Reserve for the work they do to preserve our waterways.
The Oyster Jam admission tickets are just $12 for adults, which gets you in the Southeast US Boat Show as well. Kids 16 years of age and under when they are accompanied by a paid adult. Mark your calendar and SAVE THE DATES...you will not want to miss this tradition on the river. Food Truck Foodies
Funkadelic Food Truck by Shelton Buchanan
What’s big, green and pumping out some of the tastiest eats here in the Bold City? Why, the Funkadelic Food Truck, of course. Chef/Owner Jerry Asker is actually cousins with (Fun4FirstCoastKids.com owners) Terri and Susie! This mean green machine has been dishing out some of the best and freshest gourmet eats here in Jacksonville for a while. When you approach their rig, you’re hit with a sensory explosion for your eyes, ears and nose. The sounds of some funky beats will draw in anyone looking to groove over their lunch break, and the smells escaping from the truck will make your mouth water while you wait in line. Funkadelic keeps their menu short, but it’s anything but simple. From panko-fried shrimp on sliders to a smoked pork belly sandwich, this truck is bringing legitimate gourmet cred to the mobile food marketplace. On the day of my trip, I was craving a burger. Luckily for me, Funkadelic offers up what is perhaps the best burger I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. To begin with, it’s a blend of brisket, short rib, and chuck. It’s topped with arugula, caramelized onions, white American cheese and their own special Funk sauce, all sandwiched between a delicate and fresh brioche bun. But, entrees alone are not their only specialty. They up the ante with sides ranging from regular or cajun fries to roasted beet home fries or pesto pasta salad. So, if you’re feeling funky, track down the Funkadelic Food Truck and prepare to be amazed.

History & Mission GunsNHosesJax.com April 22 Veterans Memorial Arena Jacksonville’s Guns N’ Hoses event is put on by the Fraternal Order of Police Foundation and is their largest fundraiser of the year. The first event took place in 1999. It is the one time of the year city’s first responders become rivals, vying for the title and bragging rights for the year. The firefighters and police officers are all amateur boxers who began training for the fights in January. The matches consist of three one-minute rounds. The winner receives the coveted title belt which they display at their union hall for the year. Regardless of who gets the decision, it is the community that comes out a winner, as all proceeds go back into the community. As it enters its 19th year, this event has raised over 1.7 million for local charities as police officers and firefighters literally fight for a better community.

There will be lots of vendors to provide food, drink and fun for all ages! GAME FACE: Local Athletes of Jacksonville
Sports Director at
Calais Campbell
Barry Church
The veteran defensive lineman signed with the Jaguars in free agency for a blockbuster deal worth $60 million. Campbell is a two-time Pro Bowler from the Arizona Cardinals and played college football at Miami. Campbell has 56.5 career sacks and has been durable, missing only six games in his career.
The Jaguars free agency frenzy on the defensive side of the ball continued with strong safety Barry Church. The former Dallas Cowboy is 29 years old and adds experience and steady play at the safety spot. The Jags will likely mix up their looks with TaShaun Gipson and Church in the back end.
A.J. Bouye
Lerentee McCray
The Jaguars landed another big price tag free agent with Bouye. They also lured him away from division rival Houston. The cornerback had a career year in 2016 in his first season as a full-time starter. Bouye will now form a potent tandem with Jalen Ramsey in the Jaguars defensive backfield.
The former Florida Gators linebacker is now a Jacksonville Jaguars player. McCray is from Dunnellon, Florida and signed a one year deal to the join the Jaguars. His arrival is a reunion with Special Teams Coordinator Joe DeCamillis. The duo helped the Denver Broncos win the 2015 Super Bowl.

APRIL 27 THRASHER-HORNE CENTER • THCENTER.ORG
Trace Adkins’ trademark baritone has powered countless hits to the top of the charts and sold over 10 million albums, cumulatively. His hit list includes “You’re Gonna Miss This,” “Ladies Love Country Boys,” “Songs About Me,” “Every Light In The House,” “Hillbilly Bone (Blake Shelton & Trace Adkins),” and “Just Fishin’,” to name a few. The Grammy-nominated member of the Grand Ole Opry is a TV personality, actor, author, spokesman for the Wounded Warrior Program and the American Red Cross, for whom he raised over $1.5 million dollars as winner of NBC’s All-Star Celebrity Apprentice. In recent years, Adkins has performed 10 USO Tours. In his 2007 autobiography, “A Personal Stand: Observations and Opinions from a Freethinking Roughneck,” the former oil-rigger recounted his rise to fame, brushes with death, and battles with personal demons. Trace has played a tough as nails biker in The Lincoln Lawyer (starring Matthew McConaughey), and a wise oracle of a tattoo artist in the family-friendly film Moms’ Night Out (starring Patricia Heaton, Sean Astin, Sarah Drew). He also developed and hosted GAC’s “Great American Heroes” honoring every-day heroes. His upcoming tour will promote his new album, “Something’s Going On” and he’s very much looking forward to it. Adkins said when he goes to concerts he likes hearing the well-known hits by a band. That doesn’t mean that you won’t hear some of his new stuff, but it will be sprinkled in so it doesn’t overshadow the reason you’re there – to hear his hits. Songs like “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” and more are sure to be familiar songs the baritone Grammy-nominated singer will perform. Adkins’ advice for his audience is, “try to have as much fun as we do when you come to our show.” It’s a toss-up as to who will have the best time since he seems to have a lot of fun on stage! 30

BUDDY GUY STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC:
Though Buddy Guy will forever be associated with Chicago, his story actually begins in Louisiana. One of five children, he was born in 1936 to a sharecropper’s family and raised on a plantation near the small town of Lettsworth, located some 140 miles northwest of New Orleans. Buddy Guy was just 7 years old when he fashioned his first makeshift “guitar”—a two-string contraption attached to a piece of wood and secured with his mother’s hairpins. At age 79, Guy is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, a major influence on rock titans like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, a pioneer of Chicago’s fabled West Side sound, and a living link to the city’s halcyon days of electric blues. Guy has received seven Grammy Awards, a 2015 Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award, 34 Blues Music Awards (the most any artist has received), the Billboard Magazine Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement, a Kennedy Center Honor, and the Presidential National Medal of Arts. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him No. 23 in its “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” Guy released his brand-new studio album, “Born to Play Guitar,” which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Blues Albums chart. The release features guest appearances by Van Morrison, Joss Stone, Kim Wilson and Billy Gibbons.

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC:
One of the most successful acts in rock history, Red Hot Chili Peppers (singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer) have sold more than 60 million albums, including five multi-platinum LPs, and won six Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album for “Stadium Arcadium,” Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group for “Dani California,” Best Rock Song for “Scar Tissue,” and Best Hard Rock Performance With Vocal for “Give It Away.” The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2012. The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ last studio album, “The Getaway,” was released by Warner Bros. Records on June 17, 2016. “The Getaway” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Album Sales Chart and at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 upon its release in June. “The Getaway” marks the Grammy Award-winning band’s seventh top 10 album and third No. 2 on the Top 200 Chart. The album debuted at No. 1 in Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands, and New Zealand and at No. 2 in the United Kingdom and Germany. “The Getaway” was produced by Danger Mouse and mixed by Nigel Godrich. With every ticket purchased online for Red Hot Chili Peppers, you’ll receive a choice of either a standard physical or standard digital copy of their new album, “The Getaway.” Ticket purchasers will receive instructions via email on how to redeem their album within 1014 days after ticket purchase.

BACH 2 ROCK
B2Music.com
Bach To Rock is the Music School for students of all ages. B2R’s unique method is based on the knowledge that students learn best when they join together to play the music they like the most. That’s why they use special arrangements of the music of our time and combine individual lessons with band instruction. Weekly “jam sessions” lead to Battles of the Bands and recording sessions in B2R Studio’s professional recording facilities. B2R also holds regularly scheduled public concerts that encourage students to become seasoned performers. These creative group activities foster teamwork, build self-esteem and motivate students to perfect their musicianship through independent practice. Instrumental lessons are for children aged 5-7. Participate in Kids n Keys where children are introduced to the fundamentals of music and piano playing in a fun, group setting. Kids will be inspired, play by ear, and play as a group.
The Montelione Music Camp is a music education experience specifically designed to enhance the technique and artistry of young musicians. Dr. Montelione, along with his team of professional national and international performing artists, will provide both group studio lessons and larger ensemble experiences for each camp attendee.

JACKSONVILLE CHILDREN’S CHORUS
JaxChildrensChorus.org
The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus (JCC) was founded in 1995 at Jacksonville University to fill a need for a children’s music program in the area. JCC has expanded its choir programs, and has developed self-produced, sold-out concerts including the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” event, the annual Cool Side of Yuletide holiday concert and concerts featuring guest artists such as Amy Grant, Voca People and Kristin Chenoweth. As JCC grows, it has created new choirs and new opportunities for its singers. The Young Men’s Chorus, established in 2011, is designed to meet the specific needs of young men who are experiencing voice expansion. The Touring Choir, established in 2011, travels nationally or internationally in the summer after a year of hard work and performances. From 16 singers in 1995, JCC has developed into one of Jacksonville’s most important providers of music education, enriching the lives of singers and audiences across the region. CATCHIN' A BUZZ
THE REAL HOUSEMOMS OF NOCATEE The Real Housemoms of Nocatee is an organized group in the 3rd fastest growing community in the United States. Local mom, Meg James, formed the group, now over 1,100 members strong, three years ago. They have mom’s nights out, play groups, fundraisers, and moms can ask questions on how to build their homes, what to do when their child has a strange illness, and what to do when an alligator is in their garage or a snake is in their child’s play house in the yard! Many times they have asked about where to go on those rare date nights out. Below we have shared their favorites...or those places they just dream about going when the kids are old enough to leave at home.

APRIL HOROSCOPE
by Kyle, Astrologer Extraordinaire
ARIES (March 21- April 19) It’s birthday time, and with that comes good luck. No reason to keep the party small. We all know you want a big party anyway. You always do. More people mean more free drinks and more “look at me” moments. TAURUS (April 20 – May 20) So how many ways can you say “I’m sorry?” It’s not that you are a screw-up; it’s just you screwed up this one time. Apologizing will work, but that sounds boring. Instead of saying you’re sorry, try ignoring them. Mix it up this month. GEMINI (May 21 – June 21) Good thing you been working out because you are going to need it. You need your stamina this month as you chase love all around. Don’t go looking for keepers because you aren’t going to find any. Think quantity, not quality this month. CANCER (June 22 – July 22) Your love compatibility this month is a big fat zero. You may be invited to some parties and outings, but it isn’t going to go well for you. You are a zit on a picture day: unwanted. It’s best to start catching up on cleaning or falling in love with a new hobby because it’s the only love this month. LEO (July 23 – August 22) You’re getting tired of the same ol’ thing. You either need to do some traveling this month or check out some place new. Remember, you are a hunter and it looks like you have cleaned out your pantry. Time to move onto finding new meat. Go hunt. VIRGO (August 23 – September 22) Looks like a secret someone is lusting after you. Yeah, I’m surprised too. I know you don’t do well under pressure, and you may get hot and bothered. Hot is ok. Lose the bothered and you will be fine. LIBRA (September 23 – October 22) This is a great month for romantic adventures for you Libra, so go find you some action. Be on the lookout for a possible ex looking to rekindle. I caution strongly against this. “Ex” rhymes with “unstable, scary and a horrible decision.” Okay maybe it doesn’t, but it should. SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21) Committed Scorpios will enjoy a renewed attraction with their significant other. Maybe because your mate’s New Years’ resolution of dropping off those extra 15 pounds is paying off, and now you have noticed them again. You’re laughing because it’s true. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21) Love is heating up for you this month, but these flings will bring consequences. My advice is to go for it anyway. You can deal with the consequences later, right? CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19) You should be happy that work and everything else outside of love is going good for you because this month love is nonexistent. And if everything else isn’t going all that good for you, then hmm… looks like you’re having a bad month. AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18) So, I read this online today. “Mars is in Scorpio, your tenth house of long-term plans. You can feel the value in a more permanent connection. No more bad first dates or ‘walks-ofshame’ and other awkward moments.” Darn. No more walk-of-shames. Where have the good times gone? PISCES (February 19 – March 20) So, I read this online today. “Mars is in Scorpio, your tenth house of long-term plans. You can feel the value in a more permanent connection. No more bad first dates or ‘walks-of-shame’ and other awkward moments.” Darn. No more walk-of-shames. Where have the good times gone? UPLOAD YOUR EVENT TO iwantaBUZZ.com’s ONLINE CALENDAR.
