More Oktoberfest beer and a giant Wurstbusters brat.
If by “day after” you mean Saturday, then you just go back for day two and do it all again. If it’s Sunday; three Excedrin, one cup of bone broth and a dozen warm Krispy Kreme originals.
Drink lots of water.
A few shots of a blend of pickle juice and sriracha then a large blue Powerade.

Carbs, cold shower, workout, sweat it out, coconut water, Aleve, Tums, Gatorade, a BIG breakfast, Pedialyte cocktail, gallon of water, “hair of the dog” and don’t drink too much in the first place.
Hair of the dog, a giant meal and a giant nap.
Pure Hydration the pure IV drip.
A large Bloody Mary, and a bun less Bratwurst dipped in Mustard.
I’m not sure, but I’ll find out when I go to Munich at the end of October.

MELISSA ROSS
the most interesting person i’ve interviewed this month
She’s the founder of a dynamic local group that is part of a national, womenled organization dedicated to raising women’s voices through writing, community-building, and consciousness-raising. Women Writing for (a) Change was founded in the 1990’s in Cincinnati, Ohio. Over the years, a number of affiliates have sprung up round the country. The local chapter is led by Jennifer Wolfe, who facilitates writing circles for women at her home in Riverside as well as around the city. Wolfe is not only a facilitator, but she’s also a trained journalist and corporate consultant. She founded the local school in 2014, and has conducted hundreds of writing circles for women — and occasionally men — around Jacksonville since then. “When the suppression of women’s voices becomes normalized, it becomes invisible,” said Wolfe. “The work that we do at Women Writing for (a) Change is to raise the expression of the feminine in our culture, to help rebalance the scales. The fact is, many potential outlets for writing and artwork are controlled by leaders that don’t see the lack of
diversity in their choices. Look at any newspaper, and you will see that the majority of bylines are by men, the majority of pictures are of men, and the majority of editorial decisions are made by men—and usually white men. This is replicated in all aspects of society—including art museums! But that is changing, and we are a part of that change.” To address the issue that the vast majority of art exhibited in our national and local museums is by male artists, Women Writing for (a) Change recently presented RISE: A Feminine Approach to the Craft of Art. More than 20 artists were featured in RISE, including Lana Shuttleworth, who makes art out of recycled materials; Erin Kendrick, showing work based on the poem, “For Colored Girls Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf;” UNF professor Jenny Hagar, on the theme of the Women’s March movement; and Hope McMath, founder of Yellow House, a center of art and activism in Jacksonville. Wolfe will also be presenting her work at the upcoming Mayo Clinic national symposium, “Education and Research in the Arts and Humanities in Healthcare” to take place in Jacksonville on November 10-11, 2018. You can learn more at womenwritingjacksonville.com. And tune into 89.9 FM each morning at 9am to hear from the most compelling newsmakers of the First Coast!

Frank Castillo Feeding Northeast Florida www.FeedingNEFl.org
Frank Castillo is the Executive Director of Feeding Northeast Florida. In many areas of Northeast Florida healthy food is not readily available, and when it is, the question becomes “Is it affordable?” One in six citizens in Northeast Florida are considered food insecure, but Frank is on a mission to change that. Feeding Northeast Florida helps local children and families, seniors and active and retired military members who struggle to put food on the table. Working with local grocery stores, manufacturers and farms Feeding Northeast Florida rescues high-quality food that would normally be wasted and transform it into meals for those in need. By connecting millions of pounds of rescued food to a network of over 160 social service agencies and programs like City Rescue Mission, The Sulzbacher Center and The Salvation Army, these hunger-relief partners are able to provide not only food to those in need, but services that can help these families and individuals end the cycle of poverty - including job training or placement, low-cost childcare, SNAP benefits, medical care, affordable housing and counseling. In 2017, Feeding Northeast Florida provided more than 12.5 million meals to our network of social service agencies in eight counties throughout Northeast Florida. Feeding Northeast Florida is Your Community Food Bank. With your help and support, we can make sure one of the most basic needs shared by all of us is met every day.

BUZZ: So who is Avant? KM: Avant is a local Non-profit focused on music,
we produce concerts that wouldn’t normally happen in Jacksonville. We bring in artists from out of town, we host a weekly radio show on WJCT, as well as completed a film series and other educational events. This is our third year in Jacksonville and we’re raising the bar bringing in eclectic and diverse music to the city.
BUZZ: How did you get involved? KM: I travel a lot. I’ve lived in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and
everywhere I’ve gone I have found myself immersed in the culture, music and art of that area. When I came back to Jacksonville, I saw a void in the music scene and I got a group together. We’ve put together seven to eight big concerts since.
BUZZ: Tell us a little bit about what you do in your business. RB: “There are several ways to look at what we do. We help companies sponsor positions for foreign nationals, through temporary work visas or a green card process. We also help companies with worksite enforcement issues like I-9 verification and other issues. Finally, we help people come here legally or seek a legal pathway to get their permanent residency and eventually their citizenship.” BUZZ: Can you give us an example of a responsible business owner who has done everything legally that can still get fined for improper paperwork? RB: “We worked with a hotel that had a 100 percent legal work force; the employer thought that all his I-9 paperwork was in order. ICE came to his business and asked for his I-9 paperwork, which he handed over but he didn’t keep any copies. Six months later, ICE fined him $40,000 because his employees didn’t fill out the paperwork correctly even though his work force was 100 percent legal.”

ARTS UNLEASHED The Union Arts District UnionArtStudios.com
Four years ago artist Tammy McKinley was looking for a space to set up artist studios and a gallery space for shows and art events. She found that space at a warehouse at 700 E. Union St. and founded The Union Arts Studios and Gallery, unit 3B. There are now eleven artists there collaborating, exhibiting and selling their work.
Annelies Dykgraaf AnneliesDykgraaf.com
Annelies Dykgraaf was born in Nigeria where she lived for 18 years. She has a BFA from Calvin College; studied in France through the Cleveland Institute of Art; moved from Michigan to Florida in 2001. In 2008, Annelies was awarded an Art Ventures grant from the Community Foundation in Jacksonville. A founding member of Jacksonville Cultural Development Corporation (2004)(fka JCAAA) and The Art Center Cooperative Inc. (2005), served on the Board of the Beaches Fine Arts Series for 12 years; currently on the Board of the Jacksonville Artists Guild. Her art is mainly in relief work, carving into a block of wood or linoleum depicting people and symbols of textile patterns and motifs of West African folk tales/myths. Exhibited at The Appleton Museum of Art (Jan-June 2017), JIA Haskell Gallery, Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, Wilson Center for the Arts Gallery at FSCJ South Campus, Karpeles Manuscript Museum, Reddi Arts Gallery 1037, FSCJ Kent and North Campus gallery, Riverside Fine Arts Series, Ritz Theatre & LaVilla Museum, the Jewish Community Alliance and other venues; and part of the permanent art collection at UNF Thomas G. Additional space became available and some other arts groups were able to move into the warehouse. Suzanne Picket, PNC grant winner, moved the Jacksonville Cultural Development Corporation into Unit 1J. Their focus is fostering an environment which builds creative communities by providing resources and support for arts and artists to flourish in Jacksonville Florida and surrounding areas. Luke Hazel started Wonderland Jax in Unit 2I, a Makerspace Empowering & Inspiring Artists which includes recording studio, photo/video studio, workshop. The Art Center Cooperative, Inc moved their artist studios into Unit 4C earlier this year, providing ten rental studios and a place for workshops for the public. Stephanie Zide created the Crow’s Nest, Unit 4I, which is an art cooperative space, with multiple studio spaces, and a maker space and Michael Chiapputo started Studio 3E, Unit 3E, which is a 5500 sq ft photo studio to meet the needs of photographers and videographers in the Northeast FL area. Mike Anderberg also created Anderburg Guitars, Unit 3J, making custom handmade guitars. These art groups now see the potential to create a cohesive arts destination and have branded the warehouse as the Union Arts District. Looks for events at the Union Arts District to check out this emerging area initiative.

Two Thumbs Up How Good Food Should Taste
Indochine Thai Restaurant Article by Anna Heise
the facts
Where: 21 E. Adams St. Jacksonville, FL 32202 Price: $$ Contact: IndochineJax.com
Indochine is one of my favorite downtown restaurants. Once you open the door and start up the staircase, you know something beautiful is waiting at the top. The interior is most relaxing and suited for fine dining. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, more than happy to answer questions or offer suggestions if you are new to Thai dining, plus it’s within walking distance of the TU Arts center for those of us who like pre-show dining and that was us tonight. Starting with two of our favorite appetizers: the fresh Spring Roll, which is two rolls filled with shrimp, chicken, noodles, fresh greens with mint in a crisp rice paper wrapper served with a sweet dipping sauce. Always fresh and always pleasing. My choice as always a spicy bowl of Tom Ka Gai; with generous amounts of lemongrass chicken, galangal, mushroom, onion and baby corn in a velvety coconut milk broth. I find this the best in town for my taste.
My companion opted for the Sweet Curry Snapper, a traditional Thai dish comprised of an oversized snapper filet, with sweet red curry sauce and pineapple, bamboo shoot, onion and bell pepper. One can always count on stellar presentation when dining at Indochine, this dish lived up to expectation and satisfied on the taste scale as well. My choice was a new adventure, a vegetable choice. The Prah Raam, a welcome and exciting dish, consists of al dente steamed broccoli flowers and spinach covered in a crunchy lightly spiced peanut curry. I can almost taste it as I write this post, that’s how impressive it was for me. Indochine is a lovely space to dine and service is always prompt and friendly. Once you dine at Indochine, it’s easy to understand why they have been voted one of downtown Jacksonville’s favorite dining spots. Great for date night, or pre-theater.

GOOD EATZ by Anna Eatz Jax
Thai Lao Bistro
I recently was introduced to Thai and Lao Bistro by a chef friend of mine; nested in a nondescript strip mall by Regency Square I could not help but think why now? I lived in that area 20 + years and if one were in search of something without a brand name you would be out of luck. Now I find myself driving across town to eat here it’s that good. As my friends and readers know, I would eat Asian food every day of the week. So I was quite interested in being introduced to Lao food which is in short supply here in Jacksonville unless you are fortunate enough to have Lao friends who would invite you to their house. Owned and operated by three sisters, the restaurant is beautifully appointed, staff friendly and informative. They are more than happy to assist the uninitiated to traverse the menu to find the perfect dish for them; let’s look at the food. We started with the Khao Piak Sen (rice noodle) Chicken Soup. Better than anything my Jewish mother ever made, the soup consists of homemade rice noodles, freshly fried garlic, and scallions. Hands down one of the richest broth I have ever experienced. The noodles were perfectly cooked and just right for slurping. Moving on the obligatory Spring Roll was next on the agenda, we chose the fried variety stuffed with chicken and an assortment of vegetables served with a sweet plum dipping sauce. The rolls were housed in a pleasant crispy wrapper, full of chicken and assorted vegetables. Another must order item is the Pan Fried Dumplings. These may have been my least favorite of all the food we tried, a bit on the dry side that even the accompanying dipping sauce could not cure. We joyously dug into the Lapp Beef Salad, served on a cold crispy iceberg wedge; the minced beef was mixed with rice powder, red onion, lime juice then kicked up a notch on the heat scale at our request. Perfectly balanced in flavor, we demolished this in no time at all. No, Asian meal is complete unless I have noodles, so the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) was our choice, the mixture of wide rice noodles stir-fried with egg, onions, celery, jalapeno and fresh Thai basil. This noodle offering is a traditional Thai dish that seems always to satisfy even the pickiest of diners. We just had one more item to indulge in the home-made Coconut Ice Cream a large scoop served with Matcha Sticky Rice, Fried Banana, and Cookie. I am slowly making my way through the Lao side of the menu, and will continue to make the drive to Thai and Lao; the distance is well worth the reward. CATCHIN' A BUZZ Interview by Anna Eatz Jax
When I go out solo for a few bevies, I am always happy to see a woman behind the bar. From my experience, they are somewhat more engaging and aware when another woman is sitting alone at her bar. That same feeling came over me as I sat in Bistro Aix and talked with Stani Rokvic about her journey into bar life; I found her a most engaging and exciting woman, she shared her thoughts and experiences about bar life.
How long have you been bartending? For a year and a half, not very long. The way I came to bartending was I started as a busser and cleaning tables, and worked my way up to the waitress position, then cocktail waitress and finally, I was allowed behind the bar.
How many bartending jobs have you had? Where was your first job? I’ve had a total of three bartending jobs. My first job was in a small Italian restaurant in New York, City a fine dining establishment where the people mostly drank Martinis or wine, so I was not able to develop my cocktail skills. Then I had an opportunity to move to a cocktail bar, and that is where I was trained and ready to build my skills.
What turns you on about bartending? The unlimited possibilities to create, it is important to me to express myself whether it is writing or other means like learning about spirits and drinks and then creating a new cocktail on my own is gratifying. Another thing, I love about bartending is the people, I am regularly exposed to all different types of people, and know I can learn something from every single person I meet.

STANI ROKVIC Bartender
Bistro Aix
What do you enjoy most about Bistro Aix? A lot of things first would be my collogues they are a great group of people. Another thing I like is the freedom to make any drink that comes to mind, we have a robust bar program, with many local beers and spirits available to use.
What spirit is the sexiest to you? Why? Whiskey makes a beautiful drink like the Manhattan; it is a classic cocktail and something you can’t go wrong with; they are called classic for a reason. Drinks like Old Fashioned or Manhattan enhance the flavor of the liquor.
What do you think sets your drinks apart from the others? I would say it’s a personality thing, coming from Europe where drinking and dining habits are entirely different than in the U.S.; I bring that background to my drinks when I am creating.
If I asked you to make me a cocktail with no limitations, what pops into your head? I would have to ask a few questions; what do you like, what do you usually drink and do you want to try new things? The outcome was indeed a craft cocktail adventure. Two drink so new, made for this occasion remain nameless. If you choose to make these drink at home, give it the name that appeals to you.

A large greenspace to the side and rear of the property provides a serene setting in an industrial area. Co-owners Randy, Jackie and Ryan Peterson started planning the brewery in 2015. Dad Randy and son Ryan have 20 years and 10 years, respectively, of homebrewing experience. After visiting a number of properties and signing a lease in late 2017, they began the permitting, licensing and build-out process. Measuring 8500 square feet, the site holds the 10-barrel brewhouse on one side, and a tap room approximately 1700sf in size on the other. There’s plenty of room for expansion. Supporting the brew system are two 10-barrel and two 20-barrel fermenters. The brewers put that brewhouse to work on August 9, when they brewed the first beer, a Cream Ale. Four house beers will be on tap for the Grand Opening on September 14: Cream Ale, Scarlett Ibis IPA, Garcon de Soleil Belgian Ale, and a Tropical Ale. The list will increase to eight beers, as additional rotating beers are added. As far as what types of beers the public can expect at Tabula Rasa Brewing, Ryan simply said “anything and everything.” All styles will be brewed, and a Porter and a Scottish Ale
are on the way to the taps soon. “We like doing all types of beers, and it’s fun to try new things and new flavors,” said Ryan. “We’ll keep an open mind.” The large, open tap room has an industrial vibe, with artistic and eclectic touches. It features a wraparound bar with a concrete top, and a number of tables and chairs, along with TVs. Beers will generally be poured in pint or short pours (4 oz), with a few exceptions for higher gravity brews. Growlers and Crowlers will be available to take home. Outside is a large, peaceful greenspace dotted with art pieces. Lawn games will also provide activities to go with beer sipping. The name derives from the Latin phrase “Tabula Rasa,” translated as “blank slate.” The logo features a blank Roman tablet, ready to write something new. Along with Randy and Ryan handling the brewhouse duties, Mom Jackie will oversee the operations/ administration and retail side of things. Tap Room Manager Andrew Auster rounds out the managerial crew. Tabula Rasa Brewing is located at 2385 Corbett St. Following the Grand Opening on Friday, September 14, at 4pm, hours of operation are: Tuesday-Saturday, noon-10pm; Sunday, noon-8pm; closed Monday. The tap room is family-friendly. UPLOAD YOUR EVENT TO iwantaBUZZ.com’s ONLINE CALENDAR.

OCTOBER HOROSCOPE
by Kyle, Astrologer Extraordinaire
ARIES (MARCH 21- APRIL 19) Ha! Ha! Ha! Aren’t you funny this month? Well try using one of those jokes on someone who will find them cute, because they currently aren’t. Here’s one: Knock, knock? Get lost. TAURUS (APRIL 20 – MAY 20) The Sun is blazing through Virgo, your fifth house of romance (yea, you have five of them) so your lusty side is ready to make a strong showing. If you don’t know what your lusty side is, it’s probably best for everyone if you just did nothing this month. GEMINI (MAY 21 – JUNE 21) It’s time you take that online look-at-me account to the next level. Throw down the extra nineteen bucks so you can actually “talk” to some of those people you keep winking at. You’re an adult, right? Start acting like one and spend some money on romance. CANCER (JUNE 22 – JULY 22) Love thy neighbor this month Cancer. That doesn’t mean hit on the guy next door, or ask out some dude’s daughter down the street. I’m telling you to work on your friendships this month instead of relationships. May sound boring for some, but you will need your friends when you get dumped. LEO (JULY 23 – AUGUST 22) I hate you Leo. You always get the good horoscopes. Start up the flirt-mobile, cause you are riding in the love lane, or something stupid like that. Basically, you are in good love fortune this month, so go do something fun. VIRGO (AUGUST 23 – SEPTEMBER 22) You know that dull, boring stuff you do during the day (also know as work for those Virgo’s with a job)? Well, it’s time you concentrate less on it and more on fun. Somehow, Cupid missed and his arrow smacked you surprisingly in the back. Work on the important things in life, romance.
LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 – OCTOBER 22) Around this time, you will start to become fixed on your future in romance. Coupled Libra’s maybe looking at marriage or children. Singled Libras you need to quit being indecisive and try narrowing down your search from everyone you talk to that isn’t rude, to like one or two people. SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 – NOVEMBER 21) Bummer. You are all fired-up to be in romance this month, but all you’re going to be doing is waiting. Disappointment comes in many fashions but this is probably the best. Instead of things failing in the end, yours starts at the beginning. Saves some of the heartbreak. SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 – DECEMBER 21) Friends with benefits! Love planet Venus is in Libra, which so happens to be your eleventh house of causal connections. Now there is an excuse if you ever get caught cheating. “I had to do it, it was in the stars. In my eleventh house of casual connections!” CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 – JANUARY 19) You are in the friend zone this month Capricorn. The signs all point to emotional detachment. So instead of trying to light something that isn’t there, go hunker down with friends who you have no romantic ties with. We’ll try again next month. AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 – FEBRUARY 18) With the Sun heating up your eighth house of intense bonding, you are becoming super clingy. Maybe that’s looking at it negatively. This month you are desperate for a soul mate. Hmm, that also sounded negative. Maybe stay in this month. PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 – MARCH 20) This month you will be craving companionship more than usual. Unfortunately, just as previous months, you will have to rely on just your lonely self for it. It’s not that no one cares, just not enough.
