My dad always told me that my halo held up my horn so.. Both!
I think I’ll be on the nice list because I have worked hard and been through a good deal this past half of the year and Santa wants to end my 2018 on a good note.
I’m making the nice list. After a long year, I’m excited to be at Client Focused Media and a host on Buzz TV.

Naughty list for sure. I drink too much and eat too much but I do it all for the Jacksonville Buzz. After all, someone’s got to eat all the great food and drinks our guests bring in for the show!
Nice List. Being a Good person matters.
Nice. I leave all the naughtiness to my two little wild ones.
Naughty! I’m fed up with being Nice :)
The Nice list! I’d say between graduating college, finding a job and moving out, I’ve been pretty good this year. I also make sure to leave some milk and cookies out for Santa!
Coming down the home stretch it is my intention to be so nice that it out shines the naughty!

Nice list. Tried to stay good after the stroke last year.
Nice, I’m always nice ... or, maybe that’s what makes me naughty. See you on the holiday trolleys around St. Augustine for Nights of Lights and Nights of Pints! (Could be naughty)
Definitely the nice list this year. Keeping a low profile is key...
I feel I’ll be on the nice list. When I notice Lizards on my car while driving, I pull over and move them onto a nearby tree. A couple of weeks ago I went out of my way to return an Epi-pen to a stranger. You get this picture I’m painting? I’m a nice guy.
I’m always on the nice list, Santa likes it when I’m naughty.
Nice, because I’m too old to be naughty any more.
Dear Santa, I can explain…

the most interesting person i’ve interviewed this month
For Jacksonville dad Donte Palmer, it all started with an Instagram photo taken by one of his children. Palmer recently posted a snap of himself in a men’s restroom at a local restaurant, squatting on the floor, his baby son balanced precariously on his lap, just so he could change the kid’s diaper. He tagged the image #squatforchange, noting that men change diapers just as often as moms these days, but most men’s restrooms still don’t provide changing tables for them. What’s a dad to do? The photo went viral, and sparked a social media movement of sorts. Celebrities and thousands of ordinary Americans weighed in to support #SquatforChange, pushing public places to provide the same facilities for fathers with babies, as they have long done for mothers.
Tony Allegretti Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville
The man behind much of the Downtown aspirations and development that gave Jacksonville a broader feel of community and experiences around town that we all can enjoy is Tony Allegretti.
Now, Donte is hoping to use that attention to create some positive change and create a broader conversation about the role fathers play today. “Dads are nurturers, too,” he said. “Regardless of race, regardless of size, or regardless of financial status, you know, we are fathers at the end of the day, and we will do anything to protect and to nurture our babies.” You go, Donte Palmer! And make sure to tune into 89.9 FM each weekday morning from 9-10 am to hear from the most compelling newsmakers of the First Coast!

Rethreaded
www.rethreaded.com By Howard Wolpoff
Help make a difference this Holiday season by giving gifts that change lives. Rethreaded is on a mission to renew hope, reignite dreams and release potential for survivors of human trafficking locally and globally through business. The organization has been catering to victims of sexual abuse since 2012. It was founded by Kristin Keen; who started the organization to give women a second chance at leading clean, healthy and successful lives. “If you want to start a new life, you need a new job. We work with women who have come out on the other side of sex trafficking,” Keen said. The work program provides insight on professionalism and basic work skills while preparing women for their preferred career paths. Since its inception, the organization has provided over 10,000 hours of work to women in Jacksonville. Rethreaded buys products from companies all over the U.S.; as well as countries abroad, that are putting the same foot forward toward breaking the sex trade cycle. California, Tennessee, India and Asia are to name a few. “If you buy a bag from India through us, you are giving support to that woman in India who made the bag. We take all the proceeds and invest it back into our organization; so, you`re helping a woman in Jacksonville as well,” Keen said. “You`re literally changing the world by buying this bag.” Rethreaded recognizes the trauma that women experience during and after encounters of sex trafficking. The organization offers mental health rehabilitation to women affected to help them find their rightful place in society after prison sentences and drug-inflicted lives, and get them back on track of a healthy and positive well being.

Introducing the:
THE INVISALIGN ERA Invisalign, like traditional braces, has become an amazing tool that dentists can use today to straighten teeth. I grew up in the 80’s and since that time, braces have been a kid’s childhood “right of passage.” Over the last 15 years, Invisalign has come to have a huge influence in dentistry and orthodontics. TECHNOLOGY The technology and science of tooth movement with these clear aligners has evolved greatly. Today, material technology of the plastic and the science of moving teeth without traditional brackets has evolved incredibly. Dentists are treating crowded teeth very predictably and even complicated TMJ cases with great amounts of success. ADVANTAGES Adults and kids alike prefer the idea of not having to wear brackets. Brushing and flossing with braces is difficult. Invisalign clear aligners just pop out so you can eat and brush/floss normally. The risk of gum disease, gingivitis, and decay is greatly reduced since homecare is much easier with Invisalign. The biggest advantage is NO WIRES and BRACKETS! SMART CHOICES Invisalign isn’t for everyone. Because you can remove them from your mouth (and hence they stop working), compliance is key. I recommend that parents truly assess whether a child is ready for Invisalign, or if they would be better served having traditional braces (where they can’t take them out). In my experience, adults and older teens prefer Invisalign almost 100% of the time. COSTMETIC Smiles today have such an effect on one’s confidence. Invisalign can make dramatic changes in your smile. Any Invisalign provider should be able to provide you with examples of their work. Ask questions about their experience and confidence in your particular type of case. TMJ/FUNCTION Invisalign is not just a tool for improving the smile. It’s also great at treating TMJ and BITE problems. A smile may look right, but if one suffers from migraines, headaches, jaw pain, and clinging/popping, that is an indication that something isn’t right. Invisalign success is truly doctor dependent. Your dentist is in charge of designing your individual case prescription. When discussing Invisalign with your dentist, ask questions, request before/after photos, and expect a clear message. Invisalign is amazing technology and can truly provide some ROCK STAR healthy smiles. Here’s to healthy and beautiful smiles! For more information go to EccellaSmiles.com 8

ARTS UNLEASHED
The Northeast Florida Woodturners Association JaxTurners.org
Ashley Collins
The Northeast Florida Woodturners Association has worked closely with the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens supporting ZooLights for the last five years. Every Friday and Saturday night during ZooLights, which runs this year from December 7–9 to December 14 – January 5, members of the woodturning club turn ornaments for kids.
YouTube: R5_GtdnjdLA Instagram: @theauntofdragons Twitter: @theauntofdragon
Ashley Collins is a Vlogger, Creator, and Motivator from Tampa, Fl. She graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Theatre with the original intent to become an Actor. She began Vlogging in 2017 when she went through a devastating breakup that led to her losing her job and her car. Since that rock bottom, Ashley has committed her life to self growth and her goal is to create a group of people who want to share kindness and compassion. She produces daily content with the intent of motivating, inspiring, and being proof that there is no excuse to work on your future. You can follow her journey of self love through her YouTube Channel “The Breakup Diaries.”
It’s a hectic pace turning all kinds of wooden ornaments, from Christmas trees to angels and snowmen and spin tops for the kids anxiously awaiting their toy. The adults get into it as well, telling the turners how the wooden ornaments reminded them of Christmas from their youth. Two small lathes are set up and it’s non-stop turning from 6 until 10PM. Over the event there are about 200 ornaments turned and given out to the kids. However, the woodturners get something from the event as well, since most of the kids have never seen woodturning before and are amazed that they can see an ornament come to life right before their eyes. Stop by this year and be amazed as well.

CUISINE
Golden House Article by Anna Heise
the facts
Where: 5201 Baymeadows Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32217 Price: $$ - $$$ Contact: GoldenHouseJax.com
It is well documented I am an Asian food fanatic and could eat Chinese every day; I was recently introduced to Golden House by a chef friend, who promised me it would be the best Chinese food available. A little skeptical, but I made the trip over to Baymeadows Road. In a previous life, this building was a drive through as well as eat in the restaurant, now new owners have updated the interior, and the chefs at Golden House are committed to serving their version of the most authentic Chinese Cuisine around.
Two Thumbs Up How Good Food Should Taste
Stir Fried Snails with Spicy Sauce, Braised Sea Cucumber in Brown Sauce, and Coriander Fried Quail had my mouth watering. Not to fear, there is a large selection of what most of us are accustomed to eating and ordering. We stayed pretty basic in our choices, but a second visit is on the calendar. What we did order was as promised the best I have tasted so far. First was the Scallion Pancake, zesty, crisp green onions filled a perfectly shaped pancake then cooked to a golden brown. The pancake is one of my favorite appetizers, and this did not disappoint. The second choice (and always a must have) was the Pan Fried Dumplings; this particular order was filled almost to the point of bursting. A light golden hue with soft dumpling skins made this a craveable treat.
the side to drink the soup out of the dumpling. No matter the form of delivery from plate to mouth, it’s a most rewarding experience. We each ordered a Bento Box. The very first Bento Boxes fed warriors on the road hundreds of years ago. Throughout the years the box has adapted, but the main ingredients remain unchanged, containing the major food groups such as fruits, grains, dairy, vegetables and a protein. The curried choices popped with flavor, the rice moist and warm and vegetables crisp in your mouth. I must say my visit to the Golden House was eyeopening and delicious. There are so many dishes yet to be discovered, and I certainly look forward to my return. If you have not been to Golden House, I encourage you to do so.
Another must-have was the Steamed Soup Reading the menu made my head spin; dishes I Dumplings. These fluffy pockets reward the ower have never seen on any of the Chinese restaurants with a rich broth. Some are served with a small previously visited filled the pages. Names like straw to suck out the broth; I take a little bite on

HOME IMPROVEMENT PROFESSIONAL NEEDED
El Jefe Chef-owner Scotty Schwartz has had a long love affair with Tex- Mex food, dating back to his childhood. The quest continued, and before he and partner Jose Solome opened El Jefe, Chef Schwarts traveled back to Texas in search of the best Tex- Mex he could find. Once home the testing, tweaking and getting it just right took place, and El Jefe was born. Now that all the hoopla has died down, I spent a quiet late afternoon enjoying what I thought was one of the most enjoyable Tex- Mex dinners I have experienced here in Jacksonville. The interior with its large room offers a Cantina look and feel, perfect for large groups. I prefer the bar seating; it allows me to talk with the staff and still see the activity. I started with the classic Chips and Salsa, served in small carafes that added a nice touch. The Red was quite tangy, and the Verde a softer flavor yet very rich and smooth. I simply could not choose a favorite here. The next option was the Queso Fundido, a dish I was not familiar with but now resides on the top of my appetizer list. It’s served in a piping hot iron fry pan with a zesty broiled Jack cheese, roasted poblano, fresh flour tortillas with avocado salsa verde. Think cheese pulling when you tackle this delightful dish, wrap all the cheese goodness around the tortillas and expect to be amazed. After looking over the other options, I selected Chicken Verde Enchiladas with rice and beans plus a small cup of Posole Verde, a pork hominy stew with avocado radish and pork rinds. There was nothing to regret about either order, chicken tender and flavorful, the sauce was tangy and plentiful, and the rice and beans added a spice boost. I had to ponder over the Posole Verde, it was tasty with a right balance of flavor, but texture wise I don’t believe it’s my dish. My last stop on the menu the Postres Section, my favorite is always the Sopaipilla, but they seldom appear on any lists, so I went with my second choice, the Flan con Coco. This choice was not a mistake, so I quickly forgot about the delicious fried dessert I was longing for and dug right into the dish in front of me. Heavy with sweet cream and coconut I was sated by the time I finished. While Tex- Mex may not be high on my cuisine list, I would undoubtedly go to El Jefe if invited, and if my friends were looking for some authentic Tex- Mex, I would put this restaurant on the top of the list.

The University of North Florida men’s basketball team is swooping into action this December with all five starters returning for the 2018-19 season. Head coach, Matthew Driscoll, is going into his 10th season with the Ospreys and has high hopes for a successful year. UNF has a unique team only five other NCAA teams have all five starters returning for the 2018-19 season and of those teams UNF is the only team that has no seniors on their roster. In fact, 9 of 10 contributors from last season will be returning for the 2018-19 season.
Additionally, the team welcomes several talented incoming Freshman to look out for including foward Carter Hendricksen (6’7”) and forward Dorian James (6’7”). It is believed by coach, players and fans that this may be one of the most talented teams in the history of UNF men’s basketball. Check out the University of North Florida men’s basketball team at the UNF Arena this winter. One key returning player for the UNF Ospreys is Wajid Aminu, a Junior forward. Success in basketball is a family tradition for Aminu as both of his older brothers play at the professional level. Aminu, was a highly sought after 6’7” true freshman recruit who shined during his first year with the Ospreys. Aminu was named ASUN Freshman of the Year during his freshman season and led the Ospreys in dunks. He was also second overall in rebounds and fourth on the team in scoring. During his Sophomore year, Aminu battled an ankle injury, which hindered his performance and forced him to miss 5 games.
This season Aminu is expected to be a major contributor on both defense and offense if he can remain healthy and avoid foul trouble. The talented University of North Florida men’s basketball team faces a challenging schedule for the 201819 season. They will face six games against teams in Power 5 conferences. The Ospreys will play 19 games on the road and only 12 games at home. Also, they have scheduled ten games against teams that advanced to postseason tournaments last season, five of which qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Despite a challenging schedule ahead the players and coach Driscoll have confidence in their team. J.T. Escobar, a returning starter said, “as a competitor you expect to win every night. Especially with all of us coming back, having played a year together, we definitely feel much more confident and much more mature. So, every time we step on the court we legitimately think we are going to win that game, as we should.”

EMERGENCY & PROGRAM SERVICES
In addition to the services provided to our New Life Inn guests, we also offer basic case management and referral services, as well as clothing, blankets and hygiene products. Many of our LifeBuilders students have neglected their medical and dental care. Care is provided through inter-agency collaboration and many volunteer doctors, nurses, dentists, chiropractors and students. This comprehensive health care is provided to them onsite because we know that this is essential not only for their recovery, but also for their long-term success.

Twinkling lights and local beers! St. Augustine’s four breweries once again host the popular “Nights of Pints,” beginning Friday, November 16. The event coincides with the city’s annual Nights of Lights holiday display. Participation in Nights of Pints is easy and fun: just purchase your official Nights of Pints event shirt (cost: $30) at any of the four St. Augustine breweries, and get your passport punchcard good for a beer at each brewery. Walk around, gaze at the lights, and be ready for a beer! Start your holiday season with Nights of Pints launch parties at each brewery at 7pm on Friday night. This year, the breweries collaborated with each other to brew special event beers. One collaboration brew will be available at each: Bog Brewing: Russian Imperial Stout, brewed with Ancient City Brewing; Old Coast Ales: Belgian Dubbel, brewed with Dog Rose Brewing; Ancient City Downtown Taproom: Belgian Dubbel Christmas Abbey Ale brewed with Old Coast Ales; and Dog Rose Brewing: unidentified collaboration with Bog Brewing (as of press time). Yes, if you want each of the four collaboration beers, you must go to each brewery! The breweries will also offer their own house beers. This year, the Nights of Pints also has a charitable component, as the event benefits Keepers of the Coast, a local organization dedicated to preserving the coastal areas. Organizers agreed on the “importance of protecting the natural beauty we get to live in here in Florida,” said Steve Mendoza, owner and head brewer at Bog Brewing, which drove the decision to partner with the group. Keepers of the Coast will be onsite at each brewery’s individual launch party on Friday night, November 16.
Last year’s inaugural Nights of Pints turned out to be a concept that proved highly successful. “We thought it was a neat idea, but we were a little surprised by the overall response, not only from our locals but, visiting craft beer drinkers,” explained Steve. “Almost as soon as it was over, we had people asking whether we were going to do it again.” This year, “there has already been a lot of excitement” about Nights of Pints, added Matt Hooker, co-owner of Old Coast Ales, as the breweries have seen people wearing last year’s shirts in anticipation of Nights of Pints Year Two. That excitement doesn’t stop with the beer geeks, either. Old Coast Ales brewed its first commercial Belgian Dubbel for the event. To say that OCA is “looking forward” to tapping the new brew for the public is an understatement, as Matt tried to contain his enthusiasm. When asked what the breweries learned from last year, Bog Brewing’s Mendoza pointed out “the most interesting thing we all noticed was how appreciative [everyone] was that each brewery could work together to make a fun event.” He added, “there is so much communication, planning and hard work that goes into making this event work; it was great to see customers enjoy it.” The event shirt sports a new design in 2018. That, too, was a collaborative effort, as the breweries discussed making the shirt with “images that are iconic to St. Augustine,” explained Steve. Bog Brewing co-owner John France designed the shirt graphics, with assistance from Chris Clark at Skinny Lizard T-Shirt Printers. The brewers intend to change the t-shirt design each year, said Steve. (Sounds like Nights of Pints will be back in 2019!) Although the Nights of Pints begins on Friday night, November 16, with launch parties at each brewery at 7pm, the city’s official Nights of Lights –now in its 25th year — gets underway with Light-Up Nite on Saturday, November 17, with a performance by Showtime USA at the front of the Lightner Museum at 4pm. Beginning at 5:30pm on Saturday, the All Star Orchestra brings its swing and big band sounds to the gazebo at the Plaza de la Constitucion. The countdown begins and the lights switch on at 6:30pm. This year, the spectacle of lights will stay on through Sunday, February 3, 2019. Put on your Santa hat, get your Nights of Pints shirt, and get set to ooh-and-ahh your way around downtown St. Augustine. Lighten up! It’s Nights of Pints and Nights of Lights!

DECEMBER HOROSCOPE
by Kyle, Astrologer Extraordinaire
ARIES (MARCH 21- APRIL 19) Surprise is what’s in your stocking this month. Talk about a stress on the emotions. What shocking news will you hear this month? “I’m pregnant!” “Will you marry me?” “It’s just a skin rash.” “Let’s just be friends.” So many to choose from. TAURUS (APRIL 20 – MAY 20) Spicy Mars is spending some time in Virgo, your fifth hour of passion and play (That exists!?! Apparently). Basically this Holiday season you are the mistletoe and whatever get nears you will want some fun. ‘Tis the season Taurus. GEMINI (MAY 21 – JUNE 21) Seems like you are going to be so busy with work and everything else, you will have no time for a love life this month. Man that is sad. Just sad. Glad I wasn’t born when you were to be grouped into this prediction. CANCER (JUNE 22 – JULY 22) Looks like all those signals you’ve been tossing around lately is going to work out. Of course they are; everyone is more desperate and wanting around the Holidays. So don’t think it’s because you’re clever or cute. It’s just that time of year. Enjoy it while it lasts. LEO (JULY 23 – AUGUST 22) To quote my online competition, this is what it said for you Leo. “What makes your heart go pitter-patter could make someone else gag.” Let me translate. Go for that crush of yours that is so hideous your friends will only make fun of you for dating. Happy Holidays. VIRGO (AUGUST 23 – SEPTEMBER 22) As the old adage goes, “when one window shuts, another opens.” Unfortunately, you keep trying to open the closed window and you don’t realize it’s locked and painted to the frame. Listen up Virgo, you can’t go back. Seriously. It’s painted shut. But if you want to waste your energy…
LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 – OCTOBER 22) This Holiday season has wrapped for you the gift of loneliness. While everyone is out enjoying this season with a partner, you will be flying aboard the solo plane. At least you don’t have to waste money on all those gifts. Silver linings my friend. SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 – NOVEMBER 21) According to this other horoscope I sometimes read, “Watch out for positive subliminal messages in heavy sighs and rolling eyes.” Ok, there is nothing subliminal there. Those are obvious signs that you are boring. So how about a different approach that doesn’t turn people off? SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 – DECEMBER 21) You have finally succumb to the notion that quality is better than quantity. Welcome to reality. With your new found love moral you can now seek that one person who hopefully won’t ask about your past and be floored when you let them know how many (without lying). CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 – JANUARY 19) Know that office cutie you been daydreaming about? Yeah, that one…. Well forget about it. You have to support the ol’ ball-n-chain back home. So get back to work and remember, “till death do us part.” Have a very merry Holiday. AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 – FEBRUARY 18) So the person you were crushing picked your friend instead of you. Just keep giving your friend crappy gifts and expressing to everyone how much better you are at everything. That will show your crush! You make the holidays oh-somuch fun. Get over it already. PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 – MARCH 20) Ready for that shiny new helmet you wanted all year? Well, looks like you may get a big-person gift this year, as in a romantic partner. I’m not lying . Ok, yes I am. Single is the best gift, and you’ve had it every year. Amazing.
