Making a Difference: non-profit leaders in our community
“
Northeast Florida has the largest population of women veterans in the state of Florida, and many of those women are in need of assistance,” said Quaranta. “Our organization helps these women exceed beyond their own expectations by taking the holistic approach when working with them. They have served our country and they served honorably coming home with hidden wounds. We are now in the process of raising funds to deliver what we have promised.”
DEE QUARANTA NORTHEAST FLORIDA WOMEN VETERANS, INC. | WOMENVETERANRESOURCES.ORG
Dee Quaranta is the Founder, CEO/President of Northeast Florida Women Veterans, Inc. She is a 20-year retiree from the U.S. Air Force. She began the organization in 2012, after identifying a lack in services for women veterans. Quaranta has aggressively worked to elevate the status of this population throughout the region and serves those underrepresented and overlooked. She has received the 2015 HandsOn Jacksonville “Service in Uniform” Award, the Seven Seals Award for Meritorious Leadership from the DOD ESGR, Wealth Watchers’ Homes for Heroes Award for Community Service and was chosen as a “Veteran of Influence 2016” by the JBJ.

Hoang graduated with honors from University of Houston in 2012 and is now the city’s youngest Licensed Architect. Employed by TTV Architects, Inc., Hoang has only been in town for a few years, but has already worked on several high-profile projects. He’s also the President of Downtown Rotaract, the young professionals club in connection with the Rotary Club. “I think my generation of millennials has a different mindset,” Hoang told listeners. “We want to succeed in our professions, but we also want to make a difference in our communities.” Tune into First Coast Connect weekday mornings at 9 a.m. on 89.9 WJCT. Dec. 3 JacksonvillePublicMarket.com
The Jacksonville Public Market will take place north of the Matthews Bridge from Albert Street to Oakley Street, welcoming residents of Jacksonville along with visitors to the sports and entertainment district to shop, eat, learn and have fun. Themed villages will feature local produce, artisan baked goods, fresh foods, plants, arts, crafts and vintage items. “In 2013, Eastside residents created a Quality of Life Plan for their neighborhood. Part of that plan included introducing the broader community to East Jacksonville through destination events like this market. We are very excited to help them realize their dream,” said Janet Owens, Executive Director of LISC – Jacksonville, one of the market’s leading supporters. Entertainment throughout the day includes DJ Dread and more. The Jacksonville Jaguars Jax Pack street team will also be giving away prizes. In addition, there will be fitness demonstrations, a financial literacy discussion and a tree planting, among other activities. “Our aim for the inaugural Jacksonville Public Market is to showcase this historic neighborhood to the community as well as visitors to the area, while we promote entrepreneurial opportunities and healthy activities for our Eastside and Springfield residents,” said Ken Covington, market manager. “We expect this market to lay the foundation for more, larger markets next year and beyond.” Jacksonville Public Market is a program of Groundwork Jacksonville, Inc. Established locally in 2013, Groundwork Jacksonville is a non-profit in partnership with the City of Jacksonville, the US National Park Service, the US Environmental Protection Agency and Groundwork USA to convert contaminated land into parks and other public greenspace in Jacksonville’s Historic Springfield and Eastside neighborhoods. 8

acksonville was overdue for an outdoors men’s store like Beau Outfitters when it opened nearly five years ago in Avondale. In 2014, owners Ryan Switzer and Chase O’Steen moved the store to San Marco and they’ve seen a steady increase in sales and interest in their outdoors brand. Both owners grew up in Jacksonville, went to the same high school, own black labs and love the outdoors. They did attend different universities, however, before moving back to their hometown.
“Dad raised me to appreciate the outdoors,” said Switzer. “My love of the outdoors centers around hunting, whereas Chase is more of the fisherman and into boating.” Together they formed a wonderful gentlemen’s outdoor store. Their most popular items include Yeti, Over-Under – another local brand and Barbour. The handsome interior of the store is inspired by Orvis, Filson and inspirations from Garden and Gun magazine. They plan to grow their presence online rather than in creating more storefronts. Although it’s difficult to replicate the feel of the store in an online presence, Switzer explained, he wants to build it and capture Beau Outfitter’s personality as best it can. Other thoughts of ways to grow include private labeling through t-shirts and other items. They enjoy helping local charity events such as the Boys Scouts Sporting Clays shoot, Cowford Ball, Ducks Unlimited, school fashion events and the Coastal Conservation Association.

THE CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY OF JACKSONVILLE
Last year Lenny and I attended this amazing nonprofit event with one of our kids. This year, we hope to be there with the whole family. It was great fun handing out gifts to children who otherwise might not receive toys for Christmas. This amazing event benefits Jacksonville’s children, aged 12 and younger, who are treated to a fun day. The event is on December 10 at the Prime Osborn Center from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or earlier if all toys are distributed. It’s amazing to see all the organizations, companies and volunteers come together for the children of Jacksonville!

Majure Law, Lauren Majure
Crabtree Law Group, Zachary C. Crabtree
“My greatest accomplishment thus far as an attorney has been starting my own firm, Majure Law PLLC, which has been a lifelong goal.”
“Handling a multi-million dollar commercial transaction from start to finish and all the complexities involved with one of this nature.”
Fred Catfish Abbott: The first time I came to Jacksonville was to play in the Florida Georgia game for the Gators. I came here to live because my wife was here and she was a commercial interior designer. Gainesville, which was where I was living, was not big enough for her to earn a living. So, I moved my law practice to Jacksonville.

Type of Law: Real Estate Law “At our firm, they’re not only going to get the very best representation, but we also make it a point of catering to our clients’ needs,” said Zachary C. Crabtree. “We don’t just provide legal services, we try to also counsel them through each real estate transaction by personally walking them through any issues that may arise.”
BUZZ: What is your specific field of law? FA: Personal injury and wrongful death.
BUZZ: How do clients benefit from your services?
FA: The majority of our clients have been seriously injured and many times are unable to work and earn a living. Additionally, many of them have significant past and future medical expenses. We provide them with financial security as a result of pursuing the person and/or corporation responsible for causing the injuries.
BUZZ: What is your greatest accomplishment as an attorney?
FA: Many times we are in a “David and Goliath” situation wherein we are suing a large corporation with unlimited resources. Once litigation starts we see many roadblocks, objections and situations that are made more difficult than they need to be. Overcoming these problems in getting to trial is often difficult. However, there is a tremendous satisfaction when you succeed under the circumstances and help someone who really needs help.
BUZZ: Do you put on any special events throughout the year? FA: We were a major sponsor of Jacksonville Guns N’ Hoses.
BUZZ: Finish the sentence: “In 5 years I will…”
FA: I will continue to teach younger lawyers how to be trial lawyers and share my experiences with other lawyers. In my spare time I will fish and enjoy the great outdoors! DID YOU KNOW Why Fred Catfish Abbott Chose to Practice Law
Whitney Lonker
The Lonker Law Group 207 N. Washington Street LonkerLawGroup.com BUZZ: What brought you to Jacksonville?
WL: I moved here for law school and just stayed after falling in love with the city.
BUZZ: Where did you attend law school?
“I was playing professional football and would come back to Gainesville in the off-season and take a few graduate courses,” said Abbott. “My best friend and weightlifting partner was an aerospace engineer who had gone to Cape Canaveral and launched rockets for several years. He decided to go back to law school and had become a trial lawyer practicing in Gainesville. He invited me to watch one of his trials since professional football had an average career of 3.6 years. I watched my friend do a jury trial, and decided that is what I wanted to do after football. The next year I tore all four ligaments in both cartridges in my left knee, signed up for the LSAT and got accepted to the University of Florida law school.”
Fred Catfish Abbott explained one of his greatest accomplishmenets as an atttorney. I represented an individual who was wearing his seatbelt and a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a collision wherein the vehicle rolled over and the seatbelt came open. He was ejected and became paraplegic. I sued the automobile manufacturer and obtained a $9.1 million verdict for my client. It was the first such verdict of its kind in the country for an “inertial unlatching” of a seatbelt.
WL: Florida Coastal School of Law.
BUZZ: What is your specific field of law?
WL: I handle criminal defense, family law, estate planning and DUI cases.
BUZZ: How long have you practiced? WL: 15 years.
BUZZ: How do clients benefit from your services?
WL: I’m a damn good attorney. I truly care about the client more than my bottom line.
BUZZ: How did you choose your particular field of law?
WL: I felt called to it when the law turned on me improperly. Anyone can have their liberty taken away easily, and so many people have no idea just how easily. If you have a caring attorney who will fight for you, then that’s best attorney you can have.
BUZZ: What is your greatest accomplishment as an attorney?
WL: I’m very proud of being chosen as one of the top 100 criminal defense attorneys in Florida and one of the top 10 female family law attorneys in Florida. LEGAL LEADER IN JAX
Cydney Bulger
The Bulger Firm, PLLC 2120 Corporate Square Blvd., Suite 17 Jacksonville, FL 32216 (904) 608-3694 | TheBulgerFirm.com BUZZ: What brought you to Jacksonville?
Cydney Bulger: I am originally from Atlanta, and I was interested in relocating to a growing city that still maintained that small town feel. After a visit to Jacksonville and seeing its beautiful beaches, I knew I had found my new home.
BUZZ: Where did you attend law school?
CB: I graduated from Florida Coastal School of Law, here in Jacksonville.
BUZZ: What is your specific field of law? CB: The focus of my practice is family law.
BUZZ: How long have you practiced? CB: 4 years.
BUZZ: How do clients benefit from your services?
CB: My first priority is in relentlessly advocating for my clients’ best interests, but I also strive to go beyond litigation by offering support in all areas of their lives. Family law cases can be so emotionally and financially difficult, that we try to help them in every way. Whether it’s helping them find new housing, referring them to quality mental healthcare providers, or just being a shoulder to cry on, I want my clients to feel completely supported and cared for.
BUZZ: How did you choose your particular field of law?
CB: I chose family law because I wanted to do work that mattered to the people I was serving. Every day I get to go to work knowing that what I do is important, and that is an amazing privilege.
BUZZ: What are some challenges you like to overcome in your business?
CB: One of the biggest challenges I enjoy overcoming is in going against larger firms—as a small firm, I am able to spend more quality time on my clients’ cases, rather than having to focus on volume of cases the way large firms do. I find that this attention to detail can really make a difference in results.
BUZZ: What is your greatest accomplishment as an attorney?
CB: My greatest accomplishment as an attorney so far is in celebrating my one-year anniversary in my own firm. I’m looking forward to many more!
BUZZ: Finish the sentence: “In 5 years I will…”

ARTS IN THE KNOW By Tiara Bree Jeffers
Father FAME: David De Silva
lights, camera, jacksonville! By Jax Flim Office
Patrick Heusinger, a Jacksonville native, is on the rise to fame with his new part in Tom Cruise’s “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.” This is his first major role where he plays a villain, The Hunter. Heusinger graduated from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in 1999 and continued on to graduate from Juilliard. Heusinger made his debut in the 2005 drama film, “Sweet Land.” He went on to perform in films and television series such as “Black Swan,” “The Nanny Diaries,” “The Good Wife” and “30 Rock.” However, Heusinger made his big break when he starred in the TV drama, “Gossip Girl.” Photo Credit: Getty Images
“FAME the Musical” is an iconic story, following eight talented high schoolers on their rise to fame. The students attend the New York City’s High School of Performing Arts. In the areas of music, dance and drama, each student had internal issues and external obstacles to overcome. Father FAME, also known as Fame creator David De Silva, had huge success with the movies after its release in 1980. The film earned four Academy Award nominations and was transformed into a TV series that aired over six years. After multiple entertainment world successes, De Silva has recently recreated the underlining theme of the original with a fully staged theatrical with the FSCJ Artist Series. De Silva is bringing this energetic musical to Jacksonville on December 3. The performance will be held at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts for one performance only. BUZZ: TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT FAME AND HOW IT GOT ITS NAME. David De Silva: Around 1976, it was developed as a screenplay. It was not called “Fame” at the time. It was called “Hot Lunch.” Lunchtime was a very special place where students would work on scenes, dance around the halls, play music. It was like a performance ya know, a hot lunch! After I sold the rights to MGM, we got a legal thing saying we needed to change the title. There was a pornographic film called Hot Lunch and the star was named Al Parker. The director of our movie was Alan
Parker. We didn’t want to change the name at all but we got lucky with that. Michael Gore had written this song called “Fame” and reluctantly we said we’d call it “FAME” and it grew.
“They’re all great characters, dynamic, with their own challenges and talents,” said De Silva. “I like that they’re all different. So many people can relate to at least one character.” BUZZ: WHO’S YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER? DD: I can’t say I have one. They’re all great characters, dynamic, with their own challenges and talents. I like that they’re all different. So many people can relate to at least one character. BUZZ: WHAT IMPACT DO YOU THINK THEATRE, ACTING AND FILM HAVE ON THE LIVES OF YOUTH? DD: Oh, it’s tremendous. It’s an outlet for people. It’s a way to express yourself and create, and it can change lives. DECEMBER 2016 • iwantaBUZZ.com

CENTER STAGE SLOW BURN THEATRE COMPANY By Tiara Bree Jeffers
AVENUE Q
THCENTER.ORG
Slow Burn Theatre Company is a unique experience in South Florida, giving you Broadway style productions without the Broadway. With such a diverse population in the area, the company wanted to match that diversity with their show selection. Slow Burn delivers bold musicals with productions you may not have heard before, but deserves the spotlight. Founders Patrick Fitzwater and Matthew Korinko started the company in their living room over LegalZoom, according to Fitzwater. Their mission was always to give attention to the lesser known titles, although they do produce some Broadway shows to round out the season. Tackling the challenge of producing unknown productions appealed to the founders and they’ve definitely made a name for themselves since their inception in 2009. I got the chance to speak with Patrick Fitzwater about “Avenue Q,” which is currently touring. this slightly raunchy, politically incorrect, and hilarious rendition will be at the Thrasher-Horne Center on December 9 at 8 p.m. BUZZ: How do you like being the artistic director and co-founder of a professional theatre company? Patrick Fitzwater: I love it! Matthew and I get to actually sit down and shape a whole season. We try to keep our finger on the pulse of current times and choose titles that speak to issues that we’re going through right now. Theatre is such an escape, but it’s also a great way to open up a conversation about uncomfortable situations. We try to put out titles that help people cope or deal with situations we might be living in right now. BUZZ: Since you’re a part of the show, what is “Avenue Q” about to you? PF: It’s kind of like watching these millennials realize what life is. Just watching what happens after college, and you think you have this entire world in front of you when it’s pretty hard and you don’t realize that. It shows the ups and downs of growing up. BUZZ: How do you find actors for your shows? PF: We hold annual local auditions, but we also reach out to neighboring cities like Orlando. Our reach has really spread during this last season. Having shows like “Avenue Q” that are going on tour, it took up our arsenal of actors, so we had to grow, stretching out, getting more people into the company. 16

The Children’s Christmas Party of Jacksonville is a non-profit Christmas party benefitting Jacksonville’s children under 12 years of age who may not receive toys for Christmas. This event, founded in 1999 by Travis and Margaret Storey, will be celebrated on Saturday, December 10 at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center, 1000 Water Street, where there is plenty of free parking. Accessible public transportation is nearby. The event is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or earlier if all toys are distributed. Last year, approximately 8,000 children along with their parents stand in line (first come, first served) to receive toys and a chance to win a bike. Once the doors open, the children and parents enter a beautifully decorated party and are greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus. Because of the generosity of Jacksonville’s companies and volunteers, enough funds were collected to buy 20,000 brand new toys plus 600 special wheeled items (bikes, wagons, and scooters). Children went home with fun toys, a smiling face and special memories, just what every child, in every family, should have during the holidays. Visit CCPOJ.org for more info.

Work-life balance is a term used so often it’s almost lost its significance. What does it mean anyway? Yoga tree poses on lunch break? Probably not. So how does one achieve worklife balance in an ever-changing, ever-demanding workplace? Stop and have pieces of pie. Six or seven to be exact, says work-life balance expert Samantha Ettus.
positively fit for life PositivelyFitForLife.com
Positively Fit is a simple, no-hassle way to bring group fitness to your workplace. You provide the space and their trainers do the rest.
Ettus’ recently released book, “The Pie Life” is a practical how-to guide to a happy and satisfied life. Balance, she said, is found in seven different “pie slices” of life. Those slices are career, health, relationships, children, community, friends and hobbies. Most professionals are bogged down with one or two slices, but true happiness is a mixture.

“Every woman needs a personal life no matter if they are single at 35 or a 70-year-old grandmother,” Ettus said. Pie slices like community involvement and personal hobbies are just as important. Ettus encourages professionals to rediscover the hobbies they had in school and remember the joy it inspired. “Just because we entered adulthood doesn’t mean we don’t need to still exercise that part of the brain,” Ettus said, adding she reads books incessantly during airport layovers. The popular author said the same rules apply in order for parents to live a balanced life.

“If you spend all your time parenting your life is totally out of balance, and if you spend all your time working your life is totally out of balance,” said Ettus, who has three young children. The book guides readers through “pie worksheets” and goal setting with very specific, practical measurements. Readers also learn time-saving tips like the “magic hour” and “golden triangle” to work the pie method. “We are happiest when we have goals,” Ettus said. BUZZ: What is the most
If you’ve ever had a stressful day, you know there’s nothing like getting comforting support afterward. Combine that with a great workout and you’ve experienced Joanna Massey as your instructor. Massey, a certified Pilates instructor at Synergy Studio, leads you like a pro into Pilates bends and twists and talks you through each motion. “Are you familiar with what neutral spine means?” she’ll ask with a mixture of teacher-like etiquette and health enthusiast curiosity. Then she’ll start explaining why each movement is important.
Synergy Studio opened in the Avondale area in 2000. Instructors, like Massey, teach Reformer and Mat Pilates, Fundamental Pilates, Mixed Apparatus and Jumpboard classes.
Massey, like many instructors at this Avondale studio, is passionate about the body’s relationship to flexibility, strength and muscle balance. “In Pilates, you find muscles you didn’t even know existed,” Massey said. Massey will guide you through principles of Pilates such as breathing, core muscle control and organization of head, neck and shoulders like she was born to teach.
After the workout, you will feel more centered, more balanced and ready to head into another day. “You have self-awareness and self-correct,” Massey said. “It’s very empowering.” For more information, visit SynergyPilatesPT.com.

Jillian Hubbard
Advanced Furniture Solutions
When Jillian Hubbard switched from her mostly mobile role as a nurse to a stationary role her body changed – for the worst. “I couldn’t move my neck,” Hubbard said, recalling the transition. “Eye sight started changing, swelling in my ankles.” First, she didn’t know what was wrong. Turns out, it was because she sat all day in her new administrative role and studied data on a computer screen. Hubbard, now president of Advanced Furniture Solutions in Jacksonville, wants to take her 26 years in healthcare and personal experiences to influence corporate wellness. “I would like to be able to...make a positive change,” Hubbard said. Hubbard cites research that shows adjustable sit-to-stand desks and ergonomic chairs increase blood flow, blood circulation and lumbar support. “(You gain) more energy by standing,” Hubbard said. The alternative of sitting all day can have serious health consequences. The team sells sit-to-stand desks and ergonomic chairs. The team designs and outfits offices locally and regionally for employers. Hubbard, who studied public health in graduate school, said work productivity is improved by 10 to 15 percent. “I genuinely really feel I’m a strong advocate for it,” Hubbard said. Two Thumbs Up How Good Food Should Taste GangNam Korean Restaurant Article by Monica Stouder Photos by Monica Lea Imagery: MonicaLea.com
the facts What: GangNam
When: Tuesday afternoon Where: 5161 Beach Blvd Price: $7 to $15 Lunch, $10 to $35 Dinner Contact: (904) 396-4008
Entrée
Bibimbab – rice in a hot stone bowl topped with vegetables, beef and egg served with a sweet and spicy sauce on the side for $10.99.
I have stifled my nagging urge to sing the words to PSY’s “Gangnam Style” throughout my entire visit to the new Korean restaurant of the same namesake. And while the addicting pop song is not necessarily music to my ears, the food at Gangnam Korean Restaurant most certainly is! Small and casual, this amazing eatery has truly authentic menu items such as Kimchi and beef tripe soup, Jjajang Myun (noodles in black bean paste) plus beef, chicken and pork bulgogi – all of which made my mouth water. However, for my visit I tried the Bibimbab which was served in a sizzling hot stone bowl. The rice at the base and raw egg continued to cook in its vessel as I mixed in the veggy toppings. Within two minutes, the rice at the bottom of the bowl had a light brown, crispy crust that gave this memorable nosh fantastic texture. The dish also came with a sweet and spicy sauce on the side that made this dish sing! The other notable item was the Jjampong. This spoonable second simply consisted of a large bowl of spicy broth housing a generous portion of thick Jjajang noodles, squid, shrimp and various vegetables. The spice on this dish harmonized brilliantly with an incredible flavor. The seafood pancake was full of shrimp and squid, and resembled more
of a frittata, which ultimately was a true hit for my taste buds. Definitely a palate pleaser! Family owned and operated, customer service here was outstanding. The owners’ son stated that the ingredients are super fresh and there is no MSG in the dishes. Prices are good and the food is authentic and memorable. No one hit wonders here. Gangnam is the real deal in beautifully, balanced Korean bites. Be sure to bring the whole family to this new, spiced-up spot because this food is far from one note! Buzzworthy Note: Korean Beer is served here at a nominal price $3.50. You can also imbibe in a Black Raspberry Wine (bottle $13) or Sake. Additionally, in the middle of the restaurant there are some grilling stations where hungry customers can cook individual menu elements for specific dishes at their table. There is a lunch menu where items start around $7 as well.
Dining patron stated, “Every single item I’ve eaten this meal has been absolutely amazing!”

Food Truck Foodies
CATULLO’S ITALIAN
by Shelton Buchanan
There’s something about Italian food that warms the heart of everyone who eats it. The feeling gets amplified to another degree when that food is cooked from scratch from recipes passed down lovingly over the generations. Everyone has that notion in their head of a little Italian grandmother hand rolling the pasta and spending hours slaving away on a sauce that is known only to her. Catullo’s Italian food truck is mixing things up a bit. Their “nona,” who I believe is actually their mother sits outside the truck taking orders and handling the money, while the Catullo brothers, Carl and Dave knock out pizza, pasta and other delicacies from scratch from inside their wonder wagon. Their base menu features pizza by the slice, meatball or sausage and peppers “sangwiches,” several fresh pasta dishes and even some delightful lasagna. Their specials menu is where it’s at though. The day I stopped by, they were offering up two chicken dishes, a Marsala and a Capricciosa, a special sausage and mushroom pizza by the slice. I opted for their creamy chicken pesto and a pair of Dirt McGirt roll up. After this day, I’m sure I can ever go back to store-bought, dried pasta ever again. The creamy chicken pesto features sautéed chicken tossed with fresh made pasta, crumbled up bacon and a creamy basil pesto that is hard to capture in mere words. I’ve honestly never had a pesto like this. Smooth as silk sheets, yet hearty enough for the hungriest diner, the pesto coats the chicken and pasta perfectly. The thick chunk of Italian bread, a staple of all Catullo’s pasta offerings, is the perfect accompaniment to mop up the bits of sauce that remain after you’ve devoured the rest of the dish. So if you’re craving some authentic Italian made with love by those who know, seek out the Catullo’s Italian food truck and they’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse.

JM: I have cooked all my life, but did not find it as a passion till I was in my thirties. BUZZ: How did you receive your training to become a chef? JM: I went to Kendall College in Chicago where I was born and then I received on-the-job training in a two star Michelin restaurant in Northern Italy. NIYKEE HEATON
-by Tiara Bree Jeffers
STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC: After writing her first song at age 5 and teaching herself to play guitar at 9,
Niykee Heaton dedicated her entire life to making music. With her songwriting giving her an outlet and escape from her troubled home life, Niykee spent nearly every moment outside of school creating and sharing original songs. Fast gaining a massive following after Worldstar HipHop picked up her acoustic-guitar-based rendition of Chief Keef’s “Love Sosa” in December 2012, the 19-year-old Illinois native is set to deliver a debut from Steve Rifkind and Russell Simmons’ All Def Music in partnership with Capitol Records, revealing her timeless sense of songcraft, intuitive grasp of beats, and a lyrical sensibility that fuses poetic finesse with pure emotion. Changing the game requires breaking rules, subverting stereotypes, and boldly being yourself. Niykee Heaton does all of the above. The Chicago-born and South Florida-based singer, songwriter, producer, and musician embodies 21st century female confidence. Smashing all expectations, she makes sultry and sizzling pop, but she personally produces the beats and writes the music. She unabashedly and unapologetically owns her sexuality, but she’s just as quick to quote William Shakespeare as she is to post a provocative, internet-breaking photo for her 5 million cumulative followers, showing sex appeal and depth can go hand-in-hand.

Hicks’ star continued to rise after he stepped off the Idol stage. Less than three weeks after his Idol victory, his debut single, “Do I Make You Proud,” entered at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Pop 100 and Single Sales Charts. Coinciding with the single’s release, a cover story named him People Magazine’s “Hottest Bachelor of the Year.” His self-titled album (Arista), debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and was quickly certified RIAA Platinum. In 2007, Hicks penned a brisk-selling autobiography “Heart Full of Soul.” Hicks is the first male Idol winner to be featured on a Grammy Award winning album, Jimmy Fallon’s “Blow Your Pants Off.”
TAYLOR HICKS
Hicks has performed with a multitude of artists from a wide array of styles and genres. He’s performed with artists like Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Gladys Knight, Earth Wind and Fire and The Allman Brothers, appearing in concerts worldwide.

incorporated into our craft cocktails. It adds to the whimsy of the experience. When customers are having a good time, what are they doing? Our guests love being able to grab a craft cocktail at the bar and then walk around in the candy store. What is your funniest customer story? We have a craft coctail with Pop Rocks in it. I warned a guest to be careful when pouring the drink in the glass, and the guest poured it high up; the Pop Rocks exploded all over the guests and myself. That was pretty funny. Busiest night of the week? Friday and Saturday nights. What was the last big change to your drink menu? We add the Raspberry Tootsie Roll and Bold-Fashioned to our craft cocktail menu. Both have been very well received so far.

DECEMBER HOROSCOPE
Written by Kyle, Astrologer Extraordinaire
ARIES (March 21- April 19)
This could be a great holiday season for you Aries, but you should pump the brakes on the me-me-me attitude. If you have any ability to show compassion and be concerned with your mate or crush, this month could be one for the ages.
TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)
Your current mate or crush is going to create extra stress for you this month. It’s time to move on to something better. No better time than the holiday season to tell that person you’re done with them. Obviously wait until you’ve already exchanged gifts!
GEMINI (May 21 – June 21)
Your sex appeal is off the charts this month with one of your many houses of passion and romance in Libra. Thus, let’s fire up the romance and get the object of your affection to notice you and kick off the new year the right way.
CANCER (June 22 – July 22)
So, my competitor horoscope stated, “Communication this month will be good with people you normally try to avoid.” There is a reason you avoid those people. They annoy you. If you feel like being annoyed, then take their advice and not mine.
LEO (July 23 – August 22)
Rumor has it that your fifth house of romance is lining up for a very fun and spicy month for you Leo. So, crank it up to ghost-pepper spice level and go hang out by some mistletoe and see what sparks you can create.
VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)
The local paper’s horoscope said, “Too much thinking could stump your efforts in asking someone you’ve been admiring out.” Wow. For once, I completely agree with another horoscope. Less thinking is something you’re good at Virgo.
LIBRA (September 23 – October 22)
It seems you have been too overwhelmed and it’s affecting your love life. You need to start weeding out everything weighting you down: work, boring friends, etc. Make more time for your mate or you may be ringing in the new year on the train to Dumpsville.
SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)
According to the stars, it’s a good month to show off your flirty side, Scorpio. Honestly, I think every day is a good day to flirt it up. Smile. Wink. Hug. Sixshooter. Strut. Pick-up lines. Whatever works. They’re all great.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21)
This month you will declare your unconditional love for that special person in your life. Don’t have one? Well, then you are about to do something foolish, and fall head-over-heels for someone real soon. Makes for a fun month.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19)
Looks like love will find you this month, but it will be from someone a long distance away. This is good two-fold. First, you found someone (finally). Second, due to the distance there is no awkward gift exchange expected. Double win.
AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18)
This time of year brings about travel for you; whether it’s off to see family or a vacation with your mate. Unfortunately, with Mercury in retrograde, this will bring about several travel snafus to you this holiday season. I’d suggest rearranging your plans.
PISCES (February 19 – March 20)
When it comes to gift-giving this month, take advice from my friend Stewie Griffin, “I come bearing a gift. I’ll give you a hint. It’s in my diaper and it’s not a toaster.” So be like Stewie and give a homemade gift. It shows you care more.
