The Art of Shopping By Donn Carr
Service… Done Right
The TOTAL Experience
Recently, after a long and grueling series of flights through Latin America and parts of the Caribbean toting my very heavy Lenovo laptop (Which I loved), I realized there must be a better way. My buddy who is a Mac/Apple fanatic, convinced me I really should look at making the change to Mac.
One of the things that struck me immediately about my experience is their attention to detail. Every single thing in that store was interactive and made sense. Before I left the store I was taken to another table and introduced to another Apple player whose entire purpose was to see to it that everything worked, my internet and email set up and functioning, iTunes established and then a quick 30 minutes or tutorial on how to do basic things.
Now I had never been in an Apple store (I know, I know, where have I been?) but the crowds always looked daunting and arduous and I am not a patient person by nature and since leaving the she shopping center industry, really don’t care much for crowds. So on purpose, I had avoided going into one of their stores as they are jammed from the moment they open up.
Put on Your Big Boy Pants Realizing that they were not going to come to me, I gathered my courage and set out to my nearest Apple store. I walked in to the crowed store and was greeted immediately by an Apple employee. He began asking me a quick series of questions to determine my needs. He quickly noted something on his iPad asked me hang out for a moment while he assigned me a personal assistant. Inside of 5 minutes I was introduced to a perky, Starbucks infused Appletoid. She was fabulous. After about five minutes of talking about my “ideal” computer and needs, I found myself playing with the new MacBook Air. A small, lightweight powerhouse that weighed less than my notebook binder! Okay, I was now starting to drink the Apple Juice, as the next thing I knew I was playing with an iPad and then an iTouch. By the time I had left, I was now the proud owner of a MacBook Air, iPad, iTouch and two iNano’s. Steve Jobs was certainly smiling down.
I was blown away. I never had to go to the register to check out it was done right there on his iPhone and my receipt was sent to my email at home! WOW! Getting home and opening the boxes was as exciting an event as was the actual purchase. These guys at Apple have made certain that every single detail was beyond expectations. Now that I have begun to read Steve Jobs book, I begin to understand the methodology behind the man and the product. They sweat the details, nothing is left to chance, the entire experience is controlled to ensure that the customer walks away with a predictable and desired experience and feeling for Apple. It is of little surprise that they are now the new darlings of customer service and have set the benchmark for all others to follow. SOLD! We were blown away and before a word more could be said he began measuring out the teas. Long story short, not only did we leave with a nice quantity of both teas but also a German Rock Sugar to “bring out the natural sweetness” of each! If you have any customer service stories you would like to share or for us to investigate, please send them to: Carrmg@ comcast.net. We will respond. Be sure to follow the Carr Management Group on Facebook.
