After taking a few courses in figure drawing, she moved to the Island of Sardinia. There, she began her art career with commissions for private homes, shops, restaurants and business. She enjoys popularity in Europe and in the United States, performing in clubs, concert halls, and festivals accompanied by renowned artists.
One of the best-selling instrumentalists of the late ‘80s to mid-’90s, Najee has been a consistent favorite in the quiet storm and so-called “smooth jazz” markets. Often compared to Kenny G, George Howard, and Dave Koz, the New Yorker has been greatly influenced by Grover Washington Jr. -- although he hasn’t been nearly as adventurous. Heavily produced and quite formulaic, Najee’s albums have tended to avoid improvisation and strive for commercial radio airplay above all else.

BUZZ: What sets your cuisine apart from others?
RT: It starts with the meat, which
we source from local butcher shops and hand mix into our signature patty; we add seasonings that bring out the umami flavor (known as the fifth taste). Our fries are freshcut from Idaho potatoes, soak and double fry, and for those who like an elevated experience, parmesan truffle fries is the way to go!
BUZZ: What is your most
memorable kitchen experience?
RT: In 2008, I managed a local
deli. It was late summer and we had a tropical storm hovering over the entire state of Florida. Most businesses closed in the area except us. I thought “If we can serve a couple dozen customers, it will be worth it.” Instead, we served nearly two hundred hungry stomachs who were so happy and thankful to

see us open. It was a fun day at work and we gained many new customers simultaneously.
BUZZ: What are your favorite ingredients to use?
RT: Spices are my favorite. Especially the less commonly used powders, which I feel many chefs are under-utilizing. Among others, I’m a big fan of mushroom powder; it works with a large variety dishes and brings out great flavor. BUZZ: Hobbies outside of the kitchen:
RT: Besides spending time with family and friends, playing golf on a nice day, or fishing trips, music is my passion. I had the opportunity to start a band (Jaremiah Motions) with my friends here in Jacksonville and since then we’ve had a lot of fun playing gigs around town.

VERB JAX
GETTING -2- KNOW...
Q & A with the owners: Ferdinand and Toni Mendiola
BUZZ: How would you describe this gym? FM & TM: Verb is not a typical gym. The aesthetics, the feel, the noise, and the smell are just different. We cater to our members. Anything that a member may want, we try to have that. One of our members told us that Verb “felt like home.” You won’t get treated like you’re in a typical gym. I brought all of the best things that I’ve seen in my 17-year career in this industry and combined them with the country club atmosphere.
BUZZ: What sets Verb Jax apart from other gyms in the area? FM & TM: The feel and environment as compared to other gyms. We
have a physical therapist and a kid’s club with unlimited classes and towels. We also offer massages. All of our classes are included in the membership. The only extras that aren’t included in a membership are personal training and massages. We are not a “volume” gym, so we will eventually cap off membership so that it doesn’t get too crowded.
BUZZ: What can someone expect on their first visit to Verb Jax? FM & TM: They will get a tour, get set up for a free 45-minute orientation BUZZ: What is your background? Ferdinand: I spent 17 years in the business and 10 years as the fitness
with a personal trainer, and a free day pass. They don’t have to worry about being locked into a contract as our memberships are month to month. We want to make sure that we are held accountable. We don’t feel like someone should stay a member of our gym because they are locked into a contract. We want them to stay a member because of how we do business.
director at Timuquana Country Club.
Toni:
I’m a nurse at St. Vincent’s in the telemetry unit.
BUZZ: How long have you been in business? FM & TM: . We opened our doors on September 1st, 2015.
BUZZ: What do you enjoy most about owning this business? FM & TM: I guess it’s just the fact that we both have the mentality that
if you’re going to do something, do it right. We want to give Riverside an option. We love our business and we hope that people like our vision for what we want this place to be. Go see the other gyms and come see ours. You will notice the difference.
BUZZ: What made you decide on this area and location? FM & TM: Some of it had to do with the building. The floor to ceiling
windows, the aesthetics of the building and the active neighborhood that has the old mixed with the new. Riverside is up and coming and most businesses in the area aren’t franchises.
BUZZ: What have been your biggest challenges so far and how have you overcome them? FM & TM: With a lot of franchises, the name is already known and people
know what they are getting. Our biggest challenge is getting people to know that we exist and develop our reputation. It’s really two pieces: getting people to know who you are and getting people to understand what we stand for. The majority of people already have a gym membership and we want to let people know that there are other options. Even if someone already has a membership somewhere else, we just want people to come in and see the difference and give us a try.

Since their parallel rise to stardom, The Temptations and The Four Tops have both redefined the image of Motown and greatly influenced soul and R&B music since the 1960s. The two bands will be joining forces for a highly anticipated show that will include Otis Williams, the last remaining member of The Temptations. You might recognize their iconic tailored suits or intricate choreography in the 1991 film, “The Five Heartbeats,” which focuses on the lives of individuals in an aspiring Motown band in the 1960s. Some of their most popular hits include “My Girl” and “Treat Her Like a Lady.” In similar style, the Four Tops have been a shining light since their days as Motown stars with the addition of new members throughout the years. The band has received two number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as many other prestigious awards.

YOUR LEGAL
CORNER ASK THE ATTORNEY JANUARY HOROSCOPE
Written by Kyle, Astrologer Extraordinaire
Aries (March 21- April 19) With the New Year here, you are feeling friskier than usual, needing to explore your desires. Exploration is fun, but as any miner would wear a helmet, so should you keep yourself protected. There are a lot of weird things out there in 2016.
Libra (September 23 – October 22) I saw this horoscope the other day for Libra: “Interaction with others will feel good.” Really? Water also tastes good when you are thirsty. And a buried treasure in your backyard is considered a good day also. What idiot writes these things?
Taurus (April 20 – May 20) This month you are finding the courage to ask out that crush of yours or take your current relationship to the next level. Hopefully if you have a mate, you aren’t considering finding courage on a crush instead.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) Some extremes will unfold at the beginning of the New Year for you: engagement, pregnancy, breakup, moving in (or out), etc. Apparently what you did in 2015 will finally blow up on you this month. Wow, sounds like a fun year.
Gemini (May 21 – June 21) Commitment is the word of the month for you, Gemini. This may scare a few of you. “It’s about time,” is another thought that may come to mind. My thought would be, how much is this going to cost? Cancer (June 22 – July 22) It’s time to reconnect with the idea of being with being alone again. Apparently what you have in store for 2016 is a whole bucket full of being by yourself. There’s a silver lining in everything, and just think… now you don’t have to share your tub of ice cream with anyone else.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) What’s up, you big pile of grump? This month you’re quick to anger, hard to connect with, and disengage with your normal desires. You sound like you got the gift of unawesome over the holidays. Yea, that’s a word, and it’s you this month. Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) Yes, texting on the phone is quick and great. But quick doesn’t equal great in a relationship. I know, you’re not getting your way and that’s unusual, but it’s a necessity if you don’t want to be alone… forever.
Leo (July 23 – August 22) An ex-love is going to try and wiggle their way back into your life. Maybe it’s their resolution to get you back. As good as this attention may feel, you know it’s going to crash and burn again. Although leftovers can be pretty tasty, reheating this one won’t be.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) It’s a new year, time for a new relationship. So help me, don’t start putting pictures of your dog or your nieces on your online dating profile. I am sure you love them, but prospective mates want to see pictures of you, not your baggage.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22) New plan for 2016: quit trying so hard. Try caring less what anyone thinks and see how magically attractive you will become. We are humans; we like to hunt. You keep throwing yourself in the stove before they can chase you. Let them chase.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20) Love planet Venus is in Capricorn, your friendship sign. So yup, you guessed it. That so-called friend may want more of an intimate relationship. Lucky for your lack of friends, this should make it easy to guess which one.

WHAT DO I SAY WHEN THE POLICEMAN WHO HAS PULLED ME OVER ASKS TO SEARCH MY CAR? “No.” You do not have to give consent. You have rights under the U. S. Constitution to be free from unreasonable government searches.
WON’T THEY THEN THINK I HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE AND SEARCH ANYWAY? Telling them “No” does not provide them a reason to legally search your car.
CAN I GET A DUI IN A GOLF CART, BOAT OR BICYCLE? YES, all of these are vehicles under the DUI statute. Even a horse on your own property constitutes a vehicle for DUI in the state of Florida.
WHAT DO I DO IF I GET PULLED OVER AND MY LICENSE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED? Make sure you tell the officer that you didn’t know it was suspended. Knowingly driving on a suspended license is a crime. Unknowingly driving on a suspended license is a civil traffic infraction.
