Carving Out Some Good Times with WJCT!
By Robin Warren WJCT Education Outreach Coordinator
Thanksgiving, as celebrated in North America, is a time to gather with family and friends to give thanks. One thing that we at WJCT are thankful for is our viewers and the programming we are able bring to the First Coast.
This month, the WILD KRATTS are taking a break from creature adventuring to celebrate. But when the Kratts receive an alert that their favorite creatures are suddenly disappearing around the globe, their holiday party quickly turns into a rescue mission. Our heroes must race against time to thwart their greedy archrivals’ most miserly scheme yet! Find out if the Kratts can return their baby animal friends to their homes in time for the holidays in this one-hour special holiday event. “WILD KRATTS: A CREATURE CHRISTMAS” premieres Wednesday, November 25, on WJCT-TV 7.1 (Comcast 8 & 440).
Immediately following the Kratts’ holiday special, WJCT will air the new series, “NATURE CAT,” voiced by an all-star line-up of comedic actors including “Saturday Night Live” stars Taran Killam (Nature Cat) and Kate McKinnon (Squeeks), amongst many others. With its comedic vocal talent, whimsical animation style, and playful storylines, “NATURE CAT” will engage and entertain families, while encouraging an interest in exploring nature. However, the true magic of “NATURE CAT” is its ability to help kids discover the wonders that can be found in their own backyard. “NATURE CAT” follows Fred, a house cat who dreams of exploring the great outdoors. In each episode,
once his family leaves for the day, Fred transforms into NATURE CAT, “backyard explorer extraordinaire.” Nature Cat can’t wait to get outside for a day of backyard nature excursions and bravery, but there’s one problem: He’s still a house cat with no outside instincts. With the help of his animal friends, NATURE CAT embarks on action-packed adventures full of nature investigation, “aha” discovery moments, and humor, all while inspiring children to go outside and “play the show.” As we get closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas, be sure to take a moment to spend quality-time with your family and little ones; and don’t forget to let WJCT-TV be a part of your family time!
Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at WJCT!
What’s Happening at MOSH By Melissa Beaudry
The Earth sustains us, protects us, and makes life possible; but it also humbles us with its dramatic power. MOSH’s newest traveling exhibition, “Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters,” explores natural disasters through stunning displays, state-of-the-art animations, large-scale images, and cultural artifacts that reveal the dynamic relationship we have with the Earth. “Nature Unleashed” focuses on four types of disasters – earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and tornadoes. Guests will learn the science behind natural disasters by triggering an underwater earthquake and tsunami, building and erupting a virtual volcano, touching real rock and lava specimens that tell of past geologic events, feeling what it’s like to stand inside a roaring tornado, and observing the formation of hurricanes. The exhibition stresses that storms, volcanoes, and other forces of nature are completely natural phenomenons. Whether they’re disasters or not depends on the choices we make. This serves as a powerful message for visitors and residents of Florida where hurricanes are a regular weather threat. “Nature Unleashed” examines how we can prepare for, and in some cases minimize, the impact of nature’s fury. “Nature Unleashed” will be on display from October 3, 2015, through January 10, 2016. MOSH will host a range of programs in conjunction with the exhibit including; showing Dynamic Earth and Force 5 in the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium, Wild Weather Science Shows in the JEA Science Theater and Wild Weather Discovery Camp. Locally owned and operated, The Loving Cup Hash House is a delicious spot for hearty, farmfresh lunch and breakfast bites with a cool and casual, kicked-back vibe. Upon my visit I was quickly sat by one of the restaurant owners and was immediately tended to by my smiling server Janna. I didn’t know what to order, so she made some suggestions based on my likes and mentioned that most of the items at TLCHH are from local and regional farms. The spicy homemade biscuits with chorizo gravy were a delightful treat to my carb-loving taste buds. The Pico de Gallo on the Split Open and Melt had a phenomenal fresh and citrusy flavor accented by a beautifully buttery avocado. Janna’s recommendation for the Spicy Mocha Espresso was the perfect finish to my mouth-watering meal. You can’t help but love the fresh, regional ingredients that make this menu magnificent. Homemade hashes like the Hash House Hash made with certified Angus corned beef, diced yukons and red bliss potatoes, green peppers, and onion will delight even the most persnickety taste buds. Other dishes include creative omelets,
My server Janna, “You won’t find this kind of menu anywhere in Jacksonville.” Eggs Benedicts of the Day, gourmet grilled cheese, specialty sandwiches, crepes, and an incredibly rich coffee bar featuring locally roasted beans and scratch-made syrups! Two Thumbs Up to the location, the cool atmosphere, the creative menu, the impromptu serenade, and ultimately to the friendly and informative staff. These delicious digs need to be on your ‘must try’ list, my fabulous foodie friends. You may find me there as well, dear readers, as I feel I must exercise my mandibles on more of the amazing dishes at The Loving Cup Hash House. BUZZworthy Note: Closed Mondays and only open until 2:30 p.m. throughout the week. Additionally, don’t be surprised if co-owner Dan Altman busts out into song in the middle of your meal. On my visit, the entire restaurant was serenaded randomly with a beautiful ballad and piano accompaniment. Completely unexpected and a delightful ‘dinner and a show’ experience!
Entree: Sweet Root Hash – diced sweet potatoes, turnips and parsnips for $3.50.
Entrée: Split Open and Melt and Sweet Hash– egg poached served in a halved avocado topped with melted cheddar cheese, then covered with a super fresh pico de gallo only $9.50.
Dessert: Spicy Mocha – pipin’ hot espresso, steamed milk, chili and chocolate syrup, small only $4.5 or a large for $5.50.

By Henriettibles.com
Normally, when I taste a beer to create a recipe, one thing tends to jump out at me, and a dish comes together. 21ST AMENDMENT FIRESIDE CHAT just overloaded my creative cuisine brain. I said to myself, “Self, you can’t just make one thing with this. You MUST make a meal!” The first thing that hit me was the taste of coffee. Then the subtle spices joined the party (I tasted nutmeg, cinnamon, and little graham cracker, but each batch may have different spices). I immediately thought of the holidays & beef. A nice coffee rub on some prime rib, with a side of FIRESIDE CHAT Horseradish Sauce. Add some Fireside Chat Gorgonzola Pasta and FIRESIDE CHAT Green Beans, an ice-cold pint of FIRESIDE CHAT, and you have a holiday party in your mouth!
PRIME RIB COFFEE RUB
2 Tbs finely ground coffee 2 Tbs smoked paprika 2 Tbs dark brown sugar 1 Tbs freshly ground black pepper 1 Tbs kosher salt 1 tsp ground ginger 1 tsp ground cinnamon ½ tsp ground mustard ½ tsp nutmeg ¼ tsp cloves 2 to 4 Prime Rib Steaks 2 to 3 Tbs butter 1 Tbs olive oil Combine 10 ingredients in bowl (rub will last in airtight container for about a month). To prepare steaks: Allow steaks to come to room temperature. Preheat oven to 425. Lightly salt one side. Turn over. Spread butter over second side, then rub each with a couple tablespoons coffee rub. Heat oil in cast iron pan until hot. Place steaks in pan, rub side down, for about 3 to 4 minutes, flip steaks and cook for 2 minutes. Place steaks on cookie sheet & place in oven for about 8 minutes. Steaks should be medium rare.
21ST AMENDMENT HORSERADISH SAUCE ½ cup 21ST AMENDMENT FIRESIDE CHAT 1 ½ cups sour cream ½ cup prepared horseradish 1/8 tsp fresh ground black pepper 1/8 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1 tsp grated shallots
21ST AMENDMENT GORGONZOLA PASTA 1 ½ cups heavy cream ¼ cup 21ST AMENDMENT FIRESIDE CHAT 1 Tbs butter 4 oz gorgonzola 3 Tbs parmesan ½ tsp kosher salt ¼ tep fresh ground black pepper 1 tsp grated shallots
Combine cream, beer, & butter in heavy saucepan. Bring to a low simmer, & add remaining ingredients, stirring until creamy.
FIRESIDE CHAT BALSAMIC GREEN BEANS
¼ cup 21ST AMENDMENT FIRESIDE CHAT ¼ cup balsamic vinegar 3 Tbs dark brown sugar ¼ tsp allspice 3 Tbs soy sauce 1 tsp grated shallots 1 Tbs grapeseed oil Bacon Fresh green beans, cleaned
Reduce all ingredients but bacon and green beans in saucepan for about 20 minutes over med low heat. Meanwhile, wrap bundles of green beans (about 6 or 7) in slices of bacon. Place in shallow, prepared baking dish. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and turn over. Place back in oven for 15 minutes, or until desired bacon doneness.
Reduce beer in saucepan over med low heat until halved. Allow to cool. Combine with remaining ingredients. Serve as dipping sauce for steaks. November 2015 • iwantaBUZZ.com

MARY J. BLIGE AMERICA
STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC: The classic rockers, America, are celebrating their 45th anniversary. Founding members, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell, along with former band mate Dan Peek, met in high school in London in the late 1960s and quickly harmonized their way to the top of the charts on the strength of their signature song “A Horse With No Name.” With their debut song, other hits like, “I Need You,” and “Ventura Highway,” and more, America is set to take you on a musical journey through the decades. America quickly found success with a string of No. 1 and top 10 hits, earning a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1972, and six certified gold and platinum albums throughout their career. They are famous for their close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk sound. America has been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 45 years later, these friends are still making music together, touring the world, and thrilling audiences with their timeless sound. Enjoy a special evening with a pre-show dinner before America at the Thrasher-Horne Conference Center catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill.
STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC: Iconic Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist, Mary J. Blige is a figure of inspiration, transformation and empowerment making her one of the defining voices of the contemporary music era. With a track record of eight multi-platinum albums, nine Grammy Awards, a 2012 Golden Globe nomination, and four American Music Awards, Blige is a global superstar. In the ensuing years, the singer/ songwriter has attracted a loyal fan base— responsible for propelling worldwide sales of more than 50 million albums. Born in the Bronx, New York, Blige began moving people with her soulful voice at 18 when she signed with Andre Harrell’s Uptown Records in 1989, becoming the MCA-distributed label’s youngest and first female artist. Influenced at an early age by the music of Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan, Blige brought her own gritty, urban-rooted style—fusing hip-hop, soul and honest, frank lyrics—to the forefront. She is an artist that uses her gift to lift spirits and touch lives while bringing her heart, soul and truth to those who are willing to listen. She is loved for her passionate, chart-topping hits like, “Be Without You” and “Family Affair” all of which have made her a force in music.

YOUR LEGAL
CORNER ASK THE ATTORNEY NOVEMBER HOROSCOPES
Written by Kyle, Astrologer Extraordinaire
Aries (March 21- April 19) I do appreciate your creativity, but come on now, your online profile on those dating sites is a little too over the top. Crank it down a few notches, to… let’s say, the truth. People can like the real you, can’t they?
Libra (September 23 – October 22) I could go for a Cinnabon right about now. Couldn’t you? Mmmm. Anyways…love is right around the corner - or ask out that current crush out or something. Everything is a bit hazy when all I can think about is eating a Cinnabon. And all that icing…
Taurus (April 20 – May 20) An online competitor horoscope for you read like this: “Venus turns retrograde and will remain so for some time.” As if that is any help? So Venus is moving backwards. Wow, that really helps Taurus and their love life. So, I will break it down for you: outlook not good.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) It’s your birthday and the moon’s position is in your romantic sector for the beginning of the month. Strike while the iron is hot, but don’t wait until the end of the month. The moon moves on, as do any prospects for romance.
Gemini (May 21 – June 21) When it comes to finding love this month Gemini, I would head towards the online avenues rather than ones in the real world. It’s called a social network for a reason. Go be social. Here’s a tip; good pictures help. Cancer (June 22 – July 22) Your passionate fifth house is heating up. While you’re out craving attention and being flirtatious with nearly everyone, remember while this may be fun, you can only have one person at a time (I think). So fine tune your love arrow shooting device and hone in on one target for now. Leo (July 23 – August 22) Seems your “swagger” is returning from a long hiatus. According to my subscription of “How to Write Horoscopes,” Mars is visiting your sign and you won’t need to try to attract admirers - they will be noticing you regardless. Enjoy a month in the sun before it all turns to hell. Virgo (August 23 – September 22) I just read another horoscope, and it said for Virgo to sacrifice lunches to be more productive at work. That is an interesting way of saying you need to lose weight. Why do they have to beat around the bush? Life is hard enough, but being called lazy, also? That is too much.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) Emotions are running high, and you could go either way this month. Vulnerable and pathetic, or in-charge and finding your potential mate. Pathetic is pretty easy for you these days, but I have a feeling another month alone isn’t really what you want. Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) Looks like you have an attraction close to home, such as a friend, co-worker, etc.; someone you currently see daily. Now hopefully you are single and this can blossom. But I know most of you goats are married, so you will be tempted and most likely fail. Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) Mars visits Leo this month and puts the sizzle back into your love life. But, this will also make you impatient and irritable. Your mate’s habits don’t seem so cute or endearing anymore. Man, there is just no pleasing you Aquarius. Pisces (February 19 – March 20) It is becoming the holiday season, which is a lonely time for your love life, Pisces. Shopping for just family can be fun, too! And all those holiday romantic comedies you can enjoy with… well, they are fun by yourself too. With the money you are saving, buy yourself a gift.

WHAT DO I DO IF THE POLICE COME KNOCKING AT MY DOOR AND I DON’T WANT THEM TO COME IN? Unless they have a warrant to arrest someone there or to search your house, they can’t enter without your permission unless they see some evidence of criminal activity. I suggest using the small chain lock if you have one on your door and speaking with them through the small opening the chain lock allows.
WHAT DO I DO IF THEY WANT TO COME IN OR WANT ME TO TALK TO THEM OUTSIDE? If you are outside your home they can arrest you without a warrant if they have probable cause to believe you have committed or are committing a crime, so stay inside. Do not go outside with them. Do not let them in, even if they are pushy. If they ask to come in ask if they have a warrant. If they don’t, then tell them “No.”
WHAT IF THEY ENTER UNINVITED AFTER I HAVE DENIED THEM PERMISSION TO DO SO? Do not panic. Continue to tell them to get out, but do not fight with them. Often the police will try to get you to let them inside so they can look around or to step outside so they can make an arrest without getting a warrant when they could do neither if you just say “No.” The information presented herein reflects only the opinion of the author and not iwantaBUZZ Entertainment Magazine, it’s owner, or publisher.
