The pandemic has claimed thousands of lives over the last six months. Humans were put into quarantine and communication has shifted from physical to virtual space. Based on individual personal experiences this has affected people mentally in different ways. Inspiration for this project was drawn from the site’s history as well as the book ‘Metamorphosis’ by Franz Kafka. The book describes the physical transformation of a man into a bug, and his reflections on the consequences. Themes of depression, isolation and transformation have set the trajectory for this project. It investigates how architecture can function as a device that transforms and supports the user in times of crisis.

Mixed Use Apartment Studio | Individual | 2020 Brief
This project challenged designers to do a feasibility study urban policy of Adelaide CBD and propose a high-rise building along with building code of Australia. Given the current situation, high-rise building generates more income with multiple programs, therefore, designer must propose a mixed-used building that fulfill building code and environmental study. This project started developed with the idea and study of sun angle and direction. That is the reason of the name of ‘Matahari’ which means Sun in Malay language. However, if it is direct translated to English, it is called ‘The Eye of the Day’ which related to this project as sun is the main focus to tackle on east facing site.

Beauty Club Adaptive Reuse
Studio | Individual | 2019 Brief Shed 26 has historical importance towards Port Adelaide and for South Australia as well. In order to rebuilt and maintain the importance, designer must propose an adaptive reuse program for Shed 26. The project started with the experimentation of wind. The abstract results are digitized and the elements were picked based on interest with further tryouts on the site to oversee possible spaces. Due to the revolutionized era, external appearances has becoming vital. Using the adaptive reuse approach towards Shed 26, it allows people to access various kind of physical transformation, be it beauty and health. With the availability of advanced technology, there is a high demand of plastic surgery for minor parts of the body and face such as facelift, botox and implants surgery.

Pop-up Theatre Independent Study | Group | 2019 Brief A Creative Director of Valley Arts Trust approached for a similar temporary theatre stage for Shakesspear Festival. This has to be closely encapture the feeling of Elizabethan Theatre but not exactly look the same as Elizabethan Theatre. There will be no electrical therefore, must allow enough lighting to penetrate through and accomodating 600-800 people.
Drawing overall credit to Paul Bartsch
Concept Initial idea were brought through from Elizabethan Theatre inspired. It has octagon shape with equal length of sides. With this Pop-up Theatre, it has been derived from two squares integrated into each other to form a shape has same number of sides. The main concept as a whole to fit the location of Clare Valley’s historical background and culturally; Golden Horizon, Pink Mirage, Field of Vines and Slabs of Slate. Through these four concepts, we picked our materials to form throughout the project.

Designing Pit and Stage were part of the task given. With previous hands-on exprience and several research, the stage was designed with incorporating the concept of mobile stage, slate material and Shakespears original globe stage. Referring to Diagram 1.0, heavens roof, hercules column, balconies and trap door are the elements based on Shakespear’s stage. Backdrop pivoting walls are proposal made in order to ease backdrop scenes changing during the play. Heavens and stage were made out of slate as a resources and historical reference of Clare Valley.

Superstudio 2017 Extra - Curricullar | Group First Prize Winner Brief
Superstudio 2017 calling all designers to respond to contemporary city within the context of Adelaide CBD. We were asked to propose a vision of urban space within city whether its inclusive, defensive, protective or restrictive. By approaching protective architecture against threat in public realm, we proposed an app to give information on the level of endangered area to user and an abstract idea of bustop to keep people safe.
Bustop with retreat pod reimagined.
01 awareness
Based on personal experience, we, as stakeholders, have been verbally harrassed in the most common area, bustop. Bustop is the place where you cannot immediately escape from uncomfortable or endagered situation. It commonly happened to the most vulnerable group such as women, child and aged people. We researched a precedent from Melbourne that developed an app showing the level of endangerement of that particular bustop.

02 improvement
03 retreat
Therefore, suggestions were made to develop an app that will alert people if the bustop is safe. The photo below shows how the app would look like and flow chart below shows how the app would work.
Futhermore, to increase the security, a retreat pod has been suggested in replacing the bustop design to avoid people being harrass while waiting to get help or waiting for the bus. This pod design considered for those who does not have access through internet, phone or the app. It consists of few stacks of vertical pods which allows to suck people up to each individual pod. Inside the pod, there are phone booth and emergency buttons in case harrassement happened. Real-time arrival screen also being provided for them to know when is the bus coming.
