“A” – Module 1.1 Exercise - Colour, shape, Texture (Macro and Micro - Willie Kuntz)
AA A
COLOUR.
Using repetition, I typed an AA, the third A, I dropped down to create a lead line for the eye and placed it into it’s own separate type box to protect it from the gradient applied to the lead line A. I selected the font Avenir 35 Light and aligned the letter where they join. I used a Gradient Feather tool to add the white over spray. This was all created in Indesign. Tones and pattern, I love this blue and pink combination and could see a symbolic or a logo forming from the use of shadow, play on light and colour.

UNITY, SPACE & FORM.
Using Indesign, I selected Copperplate Gothic Bold as the font and typed four rows of“W”. I noticed the lower case “W” had the same form as the capital and really liked how this complimented in a square form with only the centerline being a capital “W”. This gently leads your eye along to a message. I added another type box and flipped the lowecase “W” on it’s head to adjoin the tops of the upright lowercase “W”’s only. I then selected the entire piece and complete roatated them around to create the form. The geometric rabbit like form that was revealed through the centerline almost takes on a middle eastern character with the 10, 8 and 5 pointed looking geometric shapes.

“S” – Module 2.1 Exercise - Balance; Hierarchy; Scale/proportion -(Five Books of a restless typographer’. Typographer Jurrian Schofer)
SCALE & BALANCE
Using Illustrator I set create outline to the “S” from the font Script MT Bold at 145pt. I then used the pen tool to drag the tip anchor points to create an arched “unicorn tip” to the “S”. I gave it a partner and then nestled the baby “S” at 39pt in both lower curves, they almost represent a game of swans. To balance and create scale I anchored the design in the 245pt “S”. The steady curvacious S’s resembled the well-known balanced form of a viennetta ice-cream cake. PAGE 4
“E” – Module 2.2 Exercise - Dominance/Emphasis; Similarity/Contrast; Rhythm (Dave Carson, Neville Brody and Takenobu Igarashi’s experimental typographic design of the 1980)
CONTRAST & EMPHASIS.
Opening up Photoshop, I imported my elements of pink spring colour and jungle tropics. Using these two back grounds I typed my text of LOVE in the font Poplar Std at 300pt. I turned the text into a clipping layer and moved the back ground images into a position that complimented the emphasis of the words and form. I added the effect of tecture, bevel and emboss to assist the text in leaving the page. I really like how the colour compliment and give life to a simple font. PAGE 5
