Contact Space CONTACT SPACE is my final project at the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning in the Technion, Israel. My project is based on researching the autistic population (PDD) in Israel, their residential opportunities and the potential of their integration into urban centers. The project is located in ‹Kerem Hateymanim› in Tel-Aviv-Jaffa and encourages encounters between autistic people and local residents. This CONTACT SPACE enables PDD integration within the community, and also gives the locals the opportunity to explore the advantages of “giving back to the community”. The first part of the project focuses on gathering information on PDD in Israel and the rest of the world; I conducted in depth interviews with professionals, visited in a variety of PDD institutions and located the ideal site for the project according to my findings. The project›s second part was my proposal for the new neighborhood layout.
The new construction proposal is a two stage plan. 1st stage – Infill – Introduction of high functioning people with PDD into the heart of the neighborhood. High functioning people with PDD are in general an independent population and will be the first communication catalyst with locals. 2nd stage – ‹Kerem Hateymanim› extension - My plan suggests allocating 10 acres to low-medium functioning people with PDD, public courtyards, new residential development for the local population, a library, diverse treatment spaces and arts center. In this CONTACT SPACE people from diverse backgrounds meet, work and contribute to each other while adding to the city›s unique atmosphere. * It is important to emphasize that the projects works on integrating between people and not trying to treat any medical condition as PDD is defined by a large spectrum of diagnosis and behavior.

It’s Not you It’s us The 1 minute short film resembles the different outcomes between warm and welcoming environment In contrary to a cold and denounce environment. To demonstrate those differences, and the potential of one to maximize his abilities and skills in society I used dry Jasmine bulbs and two glasses of water. The first was filled out with cold water and the second one with warm water. The Jasmine bulbs were put in inside each glass and reactions between the two materials and temperatures appeared immediately.

The bulbs remained closed and flow over the cold water, whilst the warm water softened the hardness of the bulbs and made them open, growing 3 or 4 times bigger than they were. The bulbs gave the water a whole new other look, colour, and wonderful taste. Our society works and acts the same way. If we as a society slow down for a minute,open our hands and contribute for those who really need our help, as ClichĂŠ as it sounds.. Our environment will look and feel better, easier to live in and safer. בשנים האחרונות חל טשטוש הגבול בין שכונת כרם התימנים לשוק הכרמל הצמוד אליה ממזרח .השוק ,שמתחיל בכיכר מגן דוד בצפון ונמשך עד מתחם הכרמלית מפעפע לתוך השכונה ומטשטש את זהותה .המתחם המוקף בצהוב במפת הנולי משמש כיום כשוק שגבולותיו אינם מוגדרים ,מתחמי חניה ומבנים נטושים ומשמש כפוטנציאל תכנוני במקום.
