Michelle has joined up with the local Chamber Council to provide valuable intelligence around the work of the EBP and its vital link between schools and business. The WBEBP has also expanded its services into the Swindon area. Newbury Racecourse has continued its relationship with the Chamber of Commerce into 2017. We look forward to working with the venue and the hosting of a number of high profile events. A real success story of the membership in West Berks is the number of companies using the exporting service provided by Thames Valley Chamber. Kinkaku-ji is one of Kyoto’s leading temples. It's formal name is Rokuon-ji and was built at the end of the 14th century originally as a villa for Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the shogun at the time.
A special Japanese Temple The temple has been burnt down many times in the flames of war and more recently by arson. However, it was restored in 1955 with major improvement work being done in 1987 and all the gold leaf being replaced. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage, Kinkaku-ji is one of the historical buildings most representative of Japan.

Behind the Biggest Trends in Hollywood Celebrities need to be photo ready all the time; a walk down the red carpet or even a trip to the grocery store can easily land you on the front page. Responsible for every star’s transformation and best dressed award is an amazing stylist pulling the strings. To get the inside scoop, I spoke with celebrity stylist, Daniel Musto. Musto has worked with a long list of famous clients including Paula Abdul, Giuliana Rancic, Jenny McCarthy, Hayden Panettiere, Charissa Thompson, Tamar Braxton, and Jeannie Mai to name a few. Musto is also a featured personality on E!’s Who Wore It Better and a guest judge on Project Runway Junior.

Musto describes his job as making ". . . people feel comfortable in their own skin by covering them up with clothes that match their personalities.” However, a stylist’s job isn’t all just playing dress up. “There’s a lot of accounting, organising, and schlepping involved,” Musto shares. So what can you do to look like a star? Musto gives us his favorite tips to help you look your very best. “Make sure your midsection is as flat as possible. We all have more around the middle than we’d like, but utilise body shaping undergarments to guarantee that you have the best silhouette. Also, always make sure your earrings complement your shoes. While tulle might conjure up images of ballerinas or outdated princess style prom gowns, tulle has become surprisingly chic! At her recent LA premiere for Passengers, Jennifer Lawrence wore an elegant strapless white Dior gown. The full length tulle skirt, which floated down to the floor, remained modern and edgy due to a bleeding crystal heart adornment. Oh So Sheer Once shocking, the sheer gown has recently become a Hollywood staple. From Kim Kardashian and Rihanna to Gwyneth Paltrow and Irina Shayk, everyone has put their own spin on this body bearing style. Even Jaimie Alexander and Diane Kruger jumped on board showing off their Hollywood physiques in sexy translucent dresses. This year we celebrate on 26 March You may not realise, but Mother’s Day happens on the fourth Sunday of Lent and originally had religious traditions attached to it. In the sixteenth century, it was a celebration of the ‘mother church’ and people would return to the church in which they were baptised or where they attended as a child. Thus families would be reunited. This was known as going ‘a mothering' or Mothering Sunday. It was commonplace for the Lent fast which prohibited sweet, rich foods and meat to be lifted a little and for a Simnel cake to be shared. Years later, youngsters working as servants were given an annual day off to visit their mothers and would take gifts. This was called ‘Mother's Day.’ The celebrations of Mothering Sunday and Mother’s Day have generally combined into one annual occasion. The first official Mother’s Day was organised by Ann Jarvis in 1908 in West Virginia as a memorial to her mum. By the 1920s however Ann had become disillusioned by the commercialism of the day and especially the common use
of printed greetings cards. Celebrating the day became less popular. It wasn’t until the second World War when soldiers wanted to acknowledge their distant mothers, that the day grew in popularity once more.

Since car registrations were introduced in 1903 the popularity of personalised number plates in the UK has increased dramatically and many highly sought after registration numbers are changing hands for vast sums of money.
Personalised plates are car registrations that read a name or word specific to the owner or their vehicle. They are made up of letters and numbers and follow the legal formats of number plates set by the DVLA. In the past personalised plates were associated with the business elite and people wanting to show the world their success. In today’s motoring world however personalised plates are bought by people from all walks of life who want to add the finishing touch to their vehicles or make their car stand out on the road. Some personalised plates are bought as a present to mark a special date or occasion whilst other people buy car registrations as an investment and sell them on for profit. Whatever the reason, it is clear on any journey that the popularity of personalised plates is growing all the time. In other places the popularity of such plates is just as strong with many countries issuing what are known as vanity plates to personalise the nation’s vehicles. Vanity plates are similar to personalised number plates in that they are all unique and are specific to the owner or their vehicle. The main difference to personalised plates however is that they are typically made
up from 6 or 7 characters (letters and numbers) in any order with no specific format. For this reason vanity plates can read pretty much anything however as with DVLA registrations, obscene and offensive words are banned. In the US vanity plates are hugely popular and can be spotted in every state. The list of personalised number plates on the roads in the US is endless and includes countless classic examples such as FAST (assigned to a 1986 Corvette Pace car), HI-TECH and SNKBITE (spotted on a Dodge Viper). Many of the vanity plates in the US are used for comedy value or to portray a certain image. FBI AGNT for example is not assigned to a Federal agent’s vehicle, it is misleadingly owned by an insurance agent working for Farm Bureau Insurance! Australia is another country which has embraced the use of vanity plates with each state administering their own personalised registrations. Recently there has been a growing call for the DVLA to issue US style vanity plates in the UK however there is a heated debate going on between the government, police and number plate dealers over the implications that the introduction of vanity plates would have. However as the
current format of DVLA number plates has the scope to last until the year 2049 the introduction of vanity plates to the UK is surely still a long way off and the popularity of personalised number plates will continue to grow.

Good Friday Christians around the world observe Good Friday on the Friday before Easter Sunday. Many countries celebrate the anniversary of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection. Church services are held in the afternoon to remember the hours when Jesus hung on the cross. Churches in countries, such as Belgium and Mexico, are draped in black in memory of Jesus’ suffering. Many Christians in Poland fast on dry bread and roasted potatoes and egg decorating is also part of their preparations. Handmade kites are flown in Bermuda to symbolize the cross. In Australia lots of sporting events are held on this day too. The Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race and the Easter Racing Carnival in Sydney are very popular. The Three Peaks Race in Tasmania also begins, teams sail along
the west coast and then run or walk up and down one of three mountains. There are many theories as to why the day that remembers Jesus’ death on the cross is known as Good Friday. Some suggest the day is 'good' as in 'holy' and others speculate it may be a corruption of 'God's Friday'.

have a certain meaning. The cross represents the crucifixion of Jesus, and the spices inside signify the spices used to embalm him at his burial.
The sweet spiced bun made with currants or raisins, and marked with a cross on the top are also traditionally eaten on Good Friday in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and some parts of America.
While hot cross buns are now sold and enjoyed throughout the year, they were once reserved for Good Friday alone. Queen Elizabeth I passed a law decreeing that the sale of buns, spiced cakes, bread and biscuits in London was limited to funerals and the Friday before Easter and Christmas. Thus, the tradition to eat them on Good Friday was born.

Easter is a time for fun and chocolate! But it is also a time to celebrate new beginnings and new life.
The deeply superstitious population believed the buns had medicinal or magical properties, and the Church was fearful of these powers being abused. Some thought the buns could protect their home from fire or bad luck, and sailors would take them on their travels to prevent shipwreck. It was also commonly believed that a hot cross bun baked on Good Friday would never go mouldy.
What does Easter mean?
Easter is a spring festival of new life. As a pagan tradition it is the beginning of growth after the cold winter months. The name comes from the Anglo-Saxon goddess of the dawn and spring - Eostre. For Christians, Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and practising Christians attend special church services at Easter time. Easter celebrates life and rebirth, which is why we see lots of symbols of fertility like eggs, chicks and rabbits.
Easter Egg Hunts Activities Set up activity posts around the garden and house. Before hunting for the eggs the children need to complete a physical challenge. This could be star jumps, skipping up and down a path or hopping around while searching for the next chocolate egg.

Egg Decorating Chick eggs are very cute and easy to make with the children. 1. Insert two small holes into the egg. 2. Using a straw gently blow the contents out through the opposite hole. 3. Use yellow acrylic paint to cover the eggs. 4. Once they are dry stick a yellow feather on the top, draw black eyes and a red beak. 5. Shred green paper and use an old cardboard egg box.
Rocky Road The Creme Egg Way! Method 1. Melt in a pan on very low heat the milk chocolate, dark chocolate, butter and golden syrup stirring regularly to ensure it doesn’t burn. 2. Once the chocolate has melted set aside 150ml to be used later, leave the rest in the pan but turn off the heat. 3. Crush the biscuits into small pieces (but not too small) and fold into the chocolate mixture in the pan.
You will need. . . 140g butter 150g rich tea biscuits 250g milk chocolate 120g dark chocolate 4 tbsp golden syrup 50g mini marshmallows 50g raisins 16 mini creme eggs

4. Mix in the raisins and mini marshmallows.
Put the mini creme eggs (16) and the marshmallows in the freezer for a couple of hours beforehand (ensuring the marshmallows are separated from each other) so they hold their shape. When you take the eggs out chop them in half to show off their classic yellow and white inside.

use later and put the other half in the pan and mix in gently. 6. Lay out baking parchment onto a tray (20cm x 26cm) and spoon the mixture onto it. Press down firmly on the mixture to compress it so it forms an even layer. 7. Pour the 150ml of melted chocolate, which you set aside earlier, evenly across the top of the mixture. Fill in any gaps and create a slightly smoother top surface. 8. Put the remaining creme eggs on top of the rocky road (with the white and yellow creme showing), pushing them down carefully into the mixture. Place in the fridge to set overnight. Once set, cut it into squares and serve.

The Food and Agricultural Organisation of the UN estimates we waste a staggering 1.3 billion tonnes of food globally each year, approximately a third of all food produced. The emissions from the process which culminates in the food we see in the supermarkets (and that which is wasted before it even reaches the shelves) includes those from the production stage, the packaging and the delivery. There is also the massive amount of water wasted in commercial food production processes.
How can I help? Some fruit and vegetables do not make it to the supermarket shelves, simply because it doesn’t meet certain aesthetic criteria, even if it is completely edible. So why not grow your own fruit and vegetables and regardless of their shape and colour, they will taste delicious.
One of the most damaging aspects of food waste is its carbon footprint.
As certain vegetables can be re-grown from scraps, many homegrowers will be using the leftovers of their produce to grow the next batch, further cutting down on waste.

If you grow more produce than you need, give the surplus away to friends and family. Not many people will turn down delicious and fresh homegrown fruit and vegetables. And you never know; you may even inspire them to become kitchen gardeners themselves. If you have a lot of a particular fruit or vegetable that is coming to the end of its life, use it to make a big batch of something easily freezable, like soup or smoothies.
If you need another reason to keep growing your own produce, not only are your home grown fruit and vegetables tastier, fresher and better for the environment; you are also contributing to the fight against the serious problem of food waste.

Food allergies and intolerances What’s the difference between food allergy and food intolerance? A food allergy affects the immune system. Symptoms usually appear within a few minutes of eating the offending food, and can include a skin rash, upset stomach (eg vomiting), stomach pains and wheezing. The most severe allergic reaction is anaphylaxis, which can affect breathing and send the body into shock. Without treatment, anaphylaxis can be life-threatening, which is why it’s so important for people with a known allergy to carry an EpiPen if they’ve been prescribed one, and to teach colleagues, friends and family members how to use it. Food intolerances are more common than food allergies. Symptoms include irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, stomach upsets, eczema, migraines and even arthritis. The immune system isn’t affected and symptoms might not appear for a couple of hours, which can make it harder to work out what type of food is causing the problem.
Diagnosis You’ll need to see your GP if you suspect you have an allergy or intolerance, so that they can rule out any other causes for your symptoms. They’ll then likely refer you to a specialist for tests. Food allergies can often be diagnosed with
blood or skin reaction tests. Intolerances are more difficult to diagnose. You may be asked to follow an ‘elimination and challenge’ diet, if necessary, to try to determine what foods you’re intolerant to. You’ll be asked to cut out certain types of food for a period of time, then reintroduce them gradually.
While you can be allergic or intolerant to any type of food, there are eight common culprits: Shellfish

Treatment If you’re allergic or intolerant to a type of food, you’ll need to avoid it completely. Of course, that’s easier said than done. Ingredients such as milk powder and egg white are often used in products you wouldn’t expect to find them in. Restaurants aren’t always as vigilant as they should be about cross-contamination. So you might be prescribed steroids, antihistamines, or an epinephrine autoinjector (EpiPen) if you have an allergy. You may also be referred to a dietician, to make sure you’re still getting all the nutrition your body needs.

Are your headaches a pain in the neck? Although it is important to note that there are many different types of headache, one of the most common is known as a cervicogenic headache, which affects up to 18% of the population. A cervicogenic headache basically means head pain that originates from the neck and base of the skull. There are a number of different causes for these headaches, but the most common include previous trauma, repetitive movements or prolonged postures. Over time, these factors cause dysfunction particularly to the top 3 vertebrae in the neck and their surrounding tissues. This dysfunction then causes a referral pattern to the skull, as the nerves that supply the upper neck structures, also supply the skin overlying the head, forehead and the backs of your eyes and ears.

Yes, that’s right! Men have pelvic floors too. It’s common knowledge amongst women that if we don’t exercise our pelvic floor muscles they will become weak and can lead to embarrassing leaks as we mature. Standard ante-natal advice tells us to exercise these muscles before and after childbirth to tone our Pubococcygeus (PC) muscle to keep ourselves honeymoon fresh. However, men are rarely given this advice. Men have the same Pubococcygeus muscle which runs from the tailbone to where the penis attaches to the pubic bone. Because it connects the front, the back and all the important bits inside, it stands to reason that strengthening it will increase control and sensation in the entire genital area. In 1952, Arnold Kegal devised some simple exercises, which are now named after him, as a method for increasing genital strength to help with incontinence. What Dr Kegal didn’t anticipate was the number of patients who would then report that their vaginal muscles had become stronger resulting in increased sensation during intercourse and better orgasms. If you don’t use it you lose it, and strength in any muscle that doesn’t get used is no different. Regular Kegal exercises not only prevent the consequences of poor muscle tone, like urinary incontinence, but help to increase vaginal and penile strength. Kegals increase sensitivity and vaginal lubrication, they can intensify orgasms, strengthen erections and assist in delaying ejaculation.

What does a
Physiotherapist do? Physiotherapists take a science-based approach and look at the whole person including their lifestyle and general wellbeing. They educate patients so they can become involved in their own care and often give advice about posture, lifting techniques and the correct ways to carry objects. Physiotherapists frequently recommend exercises to strengthen specific parts of the body and improve overall health and mobility. These may be exercises which are done at home or they may suggest exercises which are done in warm, shallow water known as hydrotherapy, or general activities such as swimming and walking. They also use manual therapy. This may be the aforementioned massage or other forms of manipulation. Some physiotherapists also use specialist methods such as acupuncture, ultrasound and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (where mild electric currents are passed through the skin).
Physiotherapy can be defined as the use of physical methods such as massage, heat treatment and exercise to treat those affected by illness, injury or disease, rather than the use of surgery or drugs. It can also be used to help reduce risk of injury or illness in the future.
How can Physiotherapy help? Physiotherapy is commonly used to treat back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain and sports injuries as well as movement problems following a stroke or resulting from multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease. It can also assist with rehabilitation after a heart attack, and lung and breathing difficulties such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis. Some also use it in preparation for child birth. Physiotherapy is available on the NHS and via private therapists.
How to become a Physiotherapist To become a qualified physiotherapist in the UK, you must pass an approved degree. This will take three years if you study full time and around six years if you study part time. You will need three A Levels to get onto most courses and these will usually need to include a biological Science and possibly PE, as well as at least five GCSEs including Maths, English and one Science. There are also some accelerated MScs available for those with non-cognate degrees. To be successful therapists need to show an aptitude for caring as well as knowledge of physiotherapy. Physiotherapists need to be good listeners, motivators and able to explain treatments clearly and calmly. In addition they should also have good manual skills and be physically fit themselves as the work can often be strenuous. To practice in the UK, physiotherapists must register with the Health and Care Professions Council and have professional liability insurance. They have to keep their knowledge and skills up to date and pay an annual retention fee. The Chartered Society of Physiotherapists is the professional, education and trade union body for around 56,000 physiotherapists in the UK. 35

Decluttering
the KonMari Way Marie Kondo is a Japanese ‘organising consultant’ whose method for decluttering is taking the globe by storm. Called KonMari, the method is actually pretty straightforward. If something you own doesn’t ‘spark joy’, get rid of it. Simple right? KonMari isn’t for everyone, and Kondo certainly has a few somewhat bizarre suggestions. (Seriously, who has the time to unpack every item from their handbag, every evening?) But most of her advice is practical, easy to follow and actually makes a lot of sense. She also dips into the psychology of why we hold on to things, and why we should let them go. Kondo recommends collecting every item in a particular category and going through them in one go. So, for instance, you’d lay every item of clothing you own on the bed or floor, pick up each one and if it doesn’t ‘spark joy’ add it to the charity pile. With this approach, you get the shock of realising just how much stuff you actually own, and are more likely to discard items than if you just flick through them when they’re in a drawer.
She does, of course, make some concessions for items you really need but that don’t particularly spark joy. The main idea is that you should stop hoarding stuff that you might use one day, clothes that you only ever wear when the washing pile is teetering over, and items you feel guilty about getting rid of. Kondo also has some good advice when it comes to what to do with the things you keep. She advises against buying expensive storage solutions, and using shoe boxes to keep things tidy instead. She also recommends storing things vertically, e.g. folding clothes so that they can be stacked on end, meaning you can see them, rather than having them buried under other items. It does mean you can find a black t-shirt easily, but that you might have to unfold several black t-shirts to find the one that has the motif on.
Kondo lives alone, and it does feel sometimes that her method is mainly aimed at other single adults. But why not try this out with the family, you may be pleasantly surprised!

Take garden plants for instance Did you know that some are poisonous to cats and dogs? For example, daffodils, spring bulbs, tulips and aconite. If you have these in your garden and your pet is prone to eating all sorts then placing a mesh fence around them will help to keep your dog or cat away. If you think your pet may have chewed or ingested a plant which is known to be poisonous, contact your vet. Symptoms you may see are excessive salivating, sickness, diarrhoea and lack of coordination.

Homemade Compost Home-made compost is a thing of wonder when all goes well! But too often it goes horribly wrong and we end up with a putrefying heap. Here are my tips to create a rich, sweet compost. . .
How to make compost I have tried several methods, including my late grandfather’s which involved careful layers of various ingredients and sprinkling on lime at intervals, but I decided to try my own method. To make good compost you need more or less equal amount of 'greens' and 'browns' by volume.
1
Collect enough compost materials to make a layer of at least 30cm or more in the compost bin.
2 Place a few woody plant stems
or small twigs on the bottom first as this will improve the air circulation and drainage.
3 Mow the lawn, empty the
kitchen bin of scraps and weed the garden and place on top.
4 To help create air spaces within the heap, mix in some torn up cardboard packaging (cereal boxes are ideal), straw and wood prunings.
5 Make sure you mix up your
kitchen waste with egg boxes, toilet roll middles and similar household paper and cardboard products to create a better balance.
6 Occasionally mix everything
together and add water if it is dry, or dry material if it is soggy. Leave to mature and by Autumn you’ll be digging in your very own wonderful compost, dragged from the bottom of your heap. It is very rewarding, great for the plants and also free!
Compost containers You can make your own, using old floorboards, posts and wire netting. Alternatively you can opt for ready made bins. Check with your council as many offer cheap bins to encourage recycling. If not, garden centres stock a good variety. Position it out of the main line of sight, behind a shed or some tall plants.
