Before we know it, we’ll be reaching for lighter layers and, soon after, cutaway tanks and short shorts (Spring Time!) In this warm up season, we introduce you to the coolest people in town; Yasmina Cherfane from Samsung, Elias Mrad from Wadih Mrad, Miss Lebanon Sally Greige and Blake Lively. Of course, you’ll need the perfect spring outfits and accessories to be as cool as your fellow city dwellers. As a fashion showcase, we know that it will be scanned by designers, photographers, stylists and retailers, as well as by our faithful readers, to see what is happening in the fashion world, and this year we won’t disappoint. It’s an exciting moment in the fashion industry with change all around, and by the time this magazine is on the newsstand, the operation would have kicked-off! Shapers of the Bling industry have got their sleeves up and warming with designs and collections that will make you consider having a blingroom next to your dressing room. Flair Magazine’s second collaboration debuted with Paolo Bongia as he shaped our kiss into a pair of earrings under Kiss&Tell. The set will be available soon at his Beirut Downtown boutique. The Flair team will be at Horeca from 20 to 23 April and Men’s word at La Marina Dbayeh from 21 to 24 May ; do drop by, say Hi! (No Kissing) With plenty happening this season from events, exhibitions, releases and coverage, I must say that the event we are looking forward to the most, is our summer missionary event, BEATiful. BEIRUT, CHASING A DREAM Through this Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2015 collection, the couturier Elie Saab intended to share his vision of Beirut, a place that continues to inspire his work.

“When I sit back and reflect on my journey, I’m always transported to the city where I was born, somewhere between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains. Back then, Beirut seemed to be constantly adorned for a party that would never end. I was instantly enthralled by beauty and wanted to ensure it remained untainted. As a child in the 60’s, I pranced around medlar and laurel trees, playing beneath the purple billows of the jacarandas. The oak and olive trees sprawled around this runway are vivid resurgences of the gardens of my past. These memories still inspire my colours and my scents. The ethereal fabric of this collection embodies my childhood’s summer breeze. Just like the soft green of my blooming springs, the pale blue of the misty horizon, the yellow of the mimosas, the brown of the damp soil. Flash forward to the 70’s, women in ankle length dresses, trapeze dresses, high waist skirts , embroidered and sheer tops wading through downtown. To this day, I’m still enchanted by a clear vision: my mother in an evening gown. Curved at the waist. Flared like a corolla. Tulips printed on silk. A vision that fuelled my flare as a designer. And with every new collection I conceived, the striking image of my mother in this tulip print silk dress reappeared endlessly. I want to pay homage to the people of this city who never stopped dreaming, who never stopped believing. With this collection, I too have wished to celebrate Beirut. I hope it brings you its loving spirit, its elegance, its douceur de vivre. As couture is inseparable from beauty, beauty is inseparable from eternity. ABED MAHFOUZ Floating Blossom Floating Blossom was the inspiration behind the new Abed Mahfouz S/S collection 2015. A floral concept of blossoming spring flowers, petals and leaves was rendered on the dresses.The transparency represents the flowing fragrance of the growing flowers translated onto the feminine body while exaggerating the details of the shape of the flowers and the leaves in nature. In turn, the collection portrays different breeds of flowers making the gowns come to life. In this new collection Abed Mahfouz proposes an Elegant & Sophisticated woman. The designer shows strapless and classic cuts. Therefore, the cut of the dresses follows the intricate simplicity of the contours of the flowers revealing the feminine beauty of the woman’s body. Abed Mahfouz’s collection is naturally floating in a movement reflected in the tenderness of the subject and concept exposed by using a mixture of tulle, mousseline, lace and organza. A typical fuchsia tint of the rose was the original inspiration to perfect the rendering of this spring painting, followed by the romantic red. The gradation continues to form a rainbow of blooming spring colors such as white, lilac, blue, salmon and gold concluded by the introduction of the classic dramatic and elegant black rose. Following this romantic spring canvas, Abed Mahfouz celebrated the beading by a combination of sequins, crystals, silver sparkles to add a charming touch and pearls to imitate the freshness of the flowers and leaves during spring. Finally, Abed Mahfouz decided to enhance the whole look by a simple belt with a leather ribbon which was mutually added to the whole collection and completed with assorted leather bow shoes following the style of the belt and the overall “Floating Blossom” concept.

Traditional materials such as silk, lace or tulle, give way to holographic plastic and other experimental thick materials playing with light and iridescent reflections. Dresses and skirts sublimate women’s bodies with a hint of sensuality, revealing a shimmering collection of psychedelic patterns, shaped with distorted stripes and checkerboards. Dramatic fringes add glamour and verve to outfits while a fusion of bold, short, mid or long flared cuts, release his enchanting artistic spirit to reach new horizons. It takes RAMI KADI nearly six weeks to design each of his stunning pieces. To better capture the light and magnify its mesmerizing effect, this embroidery lover moved away from conventional Swarovski crystals in favor of shimmering materials made from threads of silk, metallic threads and ribbons, sequins, miniature pearls, which delicately ornament a little white dress. Out of the box and other geometric shapes After five capsule collections based on architects (Mario Botta, Santiago Calatrava, Zaha Hadid), that strongly reflect the designer’s taste for geometric constructions, Dina JSR’s SS15 collection marks a return to the basics of the brand: angular lines, facetted yokes, almost rigid materials, gemstone colors (jade green, cornelian orange, gold), the whole softened by blurred and see-through oriental veils and long silky textiles which give movement and speed to the garment. So were allover beadwork— on sweatshirts, slouchy pants, and thigh-high boots—and torrents of frothy plissé. The sculpted volumes of their new collection got Dean and Dan free-associating all over the place. The collection was actually shaped by a running high-low dialogue. So a floor-length skirt of scalloped plissé was shown with a cropped denim jacket. They also love this idea of pants slouched to reveal branded briefs “borrowed from a boyfriend.” 86

We chose to use one of Sonia Rykiel’s most distinctive motifs: the stripe, sported by so many icons of French cultural history, from Pablo Picasso to Brigitte Bardot and Jean Seberg and particularly redolent of the Saint-Germain neighbourhood. As Sonia Rykiel herself wrote on one of her illustrations: ‘La beauté sera toujours rayée’ – beauty will always be striped. This season explores the stripe from every angle and pushes it to new extremes: woven in tweeds; knitted in fox and mink; realised as ruffles and fringing; executed in jacquard and in intarsia; in sequins and in lace; printed and painted on by hand. 88

The torus-like ‘Peace Pavilion’ by AZC Atelier Zundel Cristea offers visitors unexpected experiences with new materials in an urban setting. the inflated PVC symmetrical tube sculpture winds and twists around creating a dynamic curving geometric structure that represents the ideals of peace: ‘harmony, silence, pureness, kindness, happiness, appeasement, calm, reconciliation, serendipity, tranquility.’ a clear membrane is stretched across the outer ring embedded with a regular grid that is visibly warped by its organic nature of double curved surfaces, and creates an irresistible four meter-tall object for children to climb on or adults to sit under. The Artwork is displayed at the Bethnal Green Museum Gardens, London, England.

Guillermo Forchino

The artist Guillermo Forchino (1952) was born in Rosario Argentina and lives in Paris France with his wife Monica and their two sons. His artworks find acclaim worldwide through a collaboration with VMM in the Netherlands with whom Mr. Forchino signed an exclusive agreement to have replicas of his collection created in the same great detail as the original works, in limited editions, under his personal supervision. This collection was named “The Comic Art of Guillermo Forchino”. With the development of the replicas of Guillermo’s art, his designs have become available to art lovers in many countries. Twice every year a few new designs are unveiled, always surprising the many fans that collect the Forchino artworks.
