ALMAZA It is no secret that Almaza is one of the most iconic brands in Lebanon. What is fashion to you? My own identity. I like to be unique. I always add my little touch. I follow trends but I also create my own, and that’s the beauty of fashion! A fashion brand you will never be seen wearing. The brand specifically doesn’t really matter to me. It’s the piece that I will never be seen wearing or a certain style. I can’t really pin point on anything at the moment! I always like a bit of change, so you can never really know! Why did you leave Lebanon? Actually I was born and raised in Australia. I moved to Lebanon when I was young only for a few years, and I remember my parents went back and forth more than once while my sister and brother and I were only young. My mother was raised in Australia, her entire family was there. As for my father well he decided to raise us in Australia. I guess he saw opportunities for us there that he wanted us to grasp. After all, Australia is my mother country just as much as Lebanon is! I came back when I was 18 for the first time since I had been a little girl and relocated to Lebanon on my own when I was 19. For this Fall/Winter 2015/2016 Haute Couture season, the BASIL SODA atelier was seen covered in a collage of baroque imagery from architecture to works of art; juxtaposed with portraits of the Kayan tribe. Portraits of Kayan women wearing their traditional neck brass coils alongside images of the crown molding at the Chateau de Versailles gave us an interesting platform to play with. The common denominator between both elements was the idea of structure and ornamentation. This is what BASIL SODA stands for; an impeccable structure that is intelligently adorned. An array of colors ranging from dark teal to rich emerald, along with a pop of mango and cranberry that perfectly complement our calm champagne and blush rose hues. A focus on textile surface design was evident to give a true meaning to the words: Haute Couture. The embroideries which are rich in crystal beadwork along with an accent of ostrich feather detailing allow the BASIL SODA woman to explore her wilder and more extravagant side.
