PROFESSIONAL ETHICS By Juan Paradas

Nowadays, profession is a personal activity, set of a stable way and honored to the service of others and the own benefit, to impulses of the own vocation and corresponding with the dignity of the human person. Strictly speaking, this word means only university courses. Broadly, it also covers the trades and permanent jobs and paid, but not requiring a college For his profession, the degree. individual occupies a position that gives it special duties and rights, like: vocation, which is the choice of profession it must be completely free. Who choose, according to his own vocation, has already guaranteed half of his success in work.

Therefore, for the own benefit the ideal is to take into account the pleasure and usefulness of the profession; and if it is not so insist in this aspect, it is because everybody is inclined by nature to the consideration of personal gain, thanks to its profession. It is worth mentioning the sacrifice involving almost all professions: doctors, getting up at midnight to attend a seriously ill patient; engineers, with heavy responsibilities to work. Profession also thanks to these works, leaves, in the end, one of the deepest satisfactions.

A professional should provide special training in two ways: intellectual and moral capacity. Intellectual capacity is considered a set of knowledge that within their profession, it is suitable to develop its work. This knowledge is basically acquired during university studies, but they must be updated through magazines, conferences, and libraries consultations. It is the responsibility of the professional to stay updated in knowledge.

The moral capacity is the value of the professional as a person, which gives dignity, seriousness and nobility to his work, worthy of appreciation of every person that finds it. It not only covers honesty in dealing, not only in the sense of responsibility for fulfillment with the agreed, but also the ability to cover and transfer its own professional sphere in a much broader horizon, toward finding and building a more just and balanced society.

Professional must exercise his function from the strictest honesty and fidelity to his principles. Along with the knowledge and skills for the good performance, professionals should be characterized by their ethical and moral principles, for his honesty foolproof, for his incorruptibility, their discipline, their collective spirit, for its austerity, modesty and simple lifestyle. Professional practice demands a wide range of autonomy, both personal and collective as a whole, whose correlate is the assumption of the responsibilities inherent to the development of the activity.
