In 1773, Montgomery retired to the Thirteen Colonies, married Janet Livingston, and began farming. Montgomery was born in Swords on December 2, 1738 and he was raised and educated in Ireland. In 1754, he enrolled at Trinity College, Dublin, and two years later joined the British Army to fight in the French and Indian War. He steadily rose through the ranks, serving in North America and then the Caribbean. After the war he was stationed at Fort Detroit during Pontiac's War, following which he returned to Britain for health reasons. Edwar d Rutledge (November 23, 1749

July ~ August ? January 23, 1800) was the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence. His father Dr. John Rutledge left Co. Tyrone, Ireland in 1735. Rutledge would raise a son to be 39th Governor of South Carolina. Edward Rutledge and his brother John were both elected to the Continental Congress in July, 1774.

Thomas Lynch Jr. of South Carolina was a signer by happenstance; his father Thomas Lynch Sr. was unable to represent South Carolina due to illness. His grandfather Jonas Lynch was from Galway. Sadly, the young Irish Patriot and his wife were believed to have been lost at sea on a trip to the West Indies in late 1776. Their ship disappeared and there is no record of his life after.

Geor ge Read was born in Maryland in 1733. He was the son of John Read and Mary Howell Read from Dublin who emigrated to Maryland. When George Read was an infant the family moved to Delaware. As he grew up, Read joined Thomas McKean at an Academy in Pennsylvania. He then studied law. and was Attorney General for the three Delaware counties and he served in that position until leaving for the Continental Congress in 1774.

A multitude of Celtic American Patriots stood for the dream of American Independence and against the Crown. Here are just three that have made the journey from obscurity to immortality!

In November of 1775, the newly appointed COL Knox had the idea to bring captured British artillery pieces from Fort Ticonderoga, New York, to Boston. Led by Knox, the expedition, consisting of hundreds of men and 100 teams of horses and oxen, hauled fifty-six cannon and mortars all the way to Cambridge, Massachusetts, by mid-January 1776. The newly acquired guns were then moved into position atop Dorchester Heights near Boston, forcing the British garrison to evacuate Boston by mid-March. He distinguished himself again at the Battle of Trenton.

Henry Knox is one of the most fascinating heroes in American History in many respects. Knox is the ultimate embodiment of the grit, Yankee ingenuity, self motivation and leadership that laid the foundation of the American CAN DO spirit. Knox was born in Boston in 1750 to an Irish Scottish family. His father, a ship-builder died when Knox was only 14 and to help his mother and his 9 siblings survive he apprenticed himself to a Boston Bookseller.

In 1796, Knox and his wife retired to Montpelier; he stayed active, created many jobs, helped fund the construction of a church, and established a local militia. Major General Henry Knox died there on October 25, 1806.

"I have not yet begun to fight!" is one of the best known quotes of the American Revolution. It was uttered as a grand gesture of defiance during one of the best known naval battles in American History by Scottish born John Paul Jones. The United States Merchant Marine claims Unity as its member and this incident as their beginning. In any case, O'Brien continued as the captain of Unity, renamed Machias Liberty, for two years. Ir ish M u sic Nigh t s Wit h Ow en Dar a Set For Pasaden a Every Tuesday night, Owen Dara takes a break from his life as a filmmaker to perform Irish songs at the 1881 Club, a welcoming local bar, in Pasadena. Having grown up listening to Irish songs in his native Cork, and then starting his entertainment career as a busker in his early twenties, Owen has developed a large repertoire of Irish songs. Although he has also had a career as a stand-up comedian and filmmaker, his love of music is present in everything he does. He has written comedic songs for his stand-up act and composed all the songs for the soundtracks of his two feature films: ?The Holy Fail? and ?Choosing Signs? (?Choosing Signs? is set to be released digitally in August, and ?The Holy Fail? has just begun to appear on the US festival circuit). Gr ego r y B r en d an Pat r i ck Southern California is home to many artists, musicians and writers of all persuasions and pursuits; one of them, poet and writer, Greg Patrick stands out from the pack. Born in the west of Ireland, Patrick now reside part time in Orange County. His heritage is as intriguing as the prose he has crafted. His life experience working as a horse trainer enables him to see life through a lens of appreciation and love of all creatures and nature. It is but one of the traits that have helped him become this adventuresome, determined, humble and quiet looming Irish literary figure. Our first meeting with him was at an Irish Fair a few years ago; it was then that we learned of his great love of Irish Music and Culture. Since then over the years of conversation; his deep connection and love for Derry, his steady output of work, his adventures (shark swimming for example) and travels have all come to light as he became a frequent and popular contributor to the I rish Arts and Entertainment.
