Let t er Fr om THE PUBLISHER Dear Friends and Readers I t is about one year today since we were star ting to get a glimmer of how awful the Covid 19 Cr isis was becoming. At that point the future and the Covid I solation and Har dship that was to come was beyond the imagination of most of us! We are still in the thick of it, the wor st economic and sociological problems that the wor ld has seen since Wor ld War I I . Around the wor ld; dreams, lives plans and stability are being shattered. Death and suffer ing abound. These are dar k days, the wor st of my life. We have no answer s except to keep our faith that God, The Univer se and Hope still exist The fir m belief that better days lie ahead and that we must wor k together to for ge them. So in the midst of all this, we here at the I rish Arts and Entertainment are putting a lot of effor t into a L ive Stream...Alone/TOGETHER! Are we fools? Can this small effor t help? We think the answer is Yes but more is needed. I t is but a Call To Action. A great place to star t, get involved with I r ish Associations and groups and other positive outreach in your community. We need a comeback for pubs and small business, suppor t them, get stuff to go if possible.

Alone/TOGETHER will help us all br idge the gap from our cur rent woes to the better days ahead. Take this leap of faith that we in reality are always taking to a more happy and secure future!

Jim M cDonough, Publisher One last point, we need volunteer s to help us spread the wor d about our upcoming L ive Stream Show Alone/TOGETHER. I f you have ideas and exper ience on how to spread the news and get attention to an event like this; please contact us, ir ishmissive@gmail.com

WOGAN SECRETS Un iqu e & Han d M ade In Ir elan d---Sh ipped t o t h e US Stacey Wogan is to be much admired as one of the many exemplary dedicated Crafters Of Ireland; she has a remarkable story. She is the mother of seven children and has a wonderful supportive husband. Bernadette Clancy, the founder of Crafters tells us that when she first spoke to Stacey about how she started her growing business she explained how it all came to be. It is a tale of hard work and a belief in creating quality Irish hade made goods. ?I started my

business three years ago from my kitchen table. At the time I was hoping to earn some more money but yet share my gift of visual to paper designs to other people. I adore weddings and all wedding related ideas, my best friend was getting married and I said I would try make these as a gift to her. I went from one order per week to now doing between 40/50 whilst adding other elements like christening/baptism, and memorials to all occasions. In my three short years I have won numerous awards for my designs as they are so personal and unique which you can never buy from a shop shelf. Cornwall, parts of which date back to the 11th century, The St Buryan Sessions had its genesis last spring, when the music industry almost shut down due to COVID-19. Rather than risk the technical pitfalls of live-streaming, McQuaid used crowdfunding to finance a beautifully recorded and filmed album and video series that would capture the essence of a live performance even without an audience. ?We set her up as if it were a regular gig,? explains Sarah?s longtime manager and sound engineer, Martin Stansbury, who produced, recorded and mixed the project. ?No flash studio mics, just the same touring PA and monitors she?d walked onstage to a thousand times, so it would be truly home territory.? Martin also placed ambient microphones around the soaring space to capture its natural acoustic and intensify the listener experience of ?being there?,

St . Bu r yan , Cor n w all

Cornish filmmaker and director Mawgan Lewis and camera operator John Crooks were able to take full advantage of camera angles that would not have been possible if audience sight-lines had been a consideration. The beautiful and fabled church itself had a huge impact on the overall sound, as well as on the visuals. I?m really grateful to Canon Vanda Perrett and the St Buryan Parish Council, and to the St Buryan Male Voice Choir for letting me use their lovely grand piano, and most of all to the 184 individuals who contributed to the FundRazr campaign. We couldn?t have done it without them says a grateful McQuaid. ? Songs from The St Buryan Sessions? will be available for streaming and download via Spotify, iTunes/Apple Music, Bandcamp and other services from February 19 and March 12, respectively.

FIONA KENNEDY A singer/songwriter and one of Irelands top vocalists, Fiona first found nationwide success by winning Ireland?s first televised X-Factor Show called ?Screen Test?. From then on Fiona became a highly recognised artist on Irish television, performing regularly on TV and Radio shows including ?The Late Late Show?. She also played for the De Barras Livestream shows and did a special online performance for the clients of The Lantern Project Cork. 2020 then saw Fiona release a single, ?$20 Dollar Bill'(for George Floyd), a cover of a protest song which harks back to her folk roots. Her latest release is one of her own songs, ?All of the days? which was written about the lonely hours of lockdown during these times of Covid-19.

St r i n gs & Th i n gs Impact Promotions Ireland Strings & Things are a four-piece, high energy, contemporary, folk/traditional/ roots band, with three members from Tipperary and the fourth from Galway. Coming from different musical backgrounds including trad/rock/pop/ heavy rock and indie, they all played with various bands before meeting in October, 2018 and joining together to comprise the current line up. They perform a large repertoire of Irish songs, standard airs and traditional tunes produced in their own unique style. Playing around the south of Ireland Strings & Things were noticed on-line by Impact Promotions Ireland who invited them to perform at an original showcase platform in County Cavan. Their performance was electric, and with the crowd loving the original material they were approached at the end of the night by Impact Promotions who were in the enviable position of being able to offer them a three month residency at the renowned Raglan Road venue in Orlando, Florida. This super experience and the ensuing music tightness that they developed brought these four guys to a new level. They were invited to extend their residency at Raglan Road for an extra month and they accepted to the delight of their growing fan base. The entire experience resulted in them evolving into a more cohesive, seasoned Neo-Trad group and garnered them a reputation as one of THE Up & Coming Irish bands in the US Southeast. Back home in Ireland, the band were able to expand their schedule with Impact Promotions to performing in many more and varied venues throughout Ireland. One of their stated goal is to play in every county in Ireland! Things were going extremely well for them and all their dedication and hard work resulted in an invitation being received for Strings & Things to travel to London for a mini-tour, where they then completed an amazing seven gigs in five days. The London audiences loved them and as a result; a follow up invitation was immediately offered.

This was an extremely exciting period for Strings & Things. During their contract period in Florida, with the Disney Resort, the band were diligent and used their off time to tap into their collective creativity and to write, arrange, produce and record twelve original songs. After a very productive nine months of their US tour, living and working in Florida came to an abrupt halt. Unfortunately, the Global Pandemic struck and S & T along with thousands of others had their plans cast asunder. They were forced to make a quick return to their homes in Ireland. Undeterred but still committed to their music, the lads have continued when lockdown permitted to perform via live streams. They have also used this time to select 12 tracks from their many original songs/tunes for a new album "The Unsolicited Dance". Arriving in Los Angeles from Ireland almost 40 years ago, Ken O?Malley was immediately offered a spot at Molly Malone's, the legendary Irish venue in the city's Fairfax district, and he hasn't stopped playing for delighted Southern California crowds and fans sine. Be ut in concert, headlining Irish and Celtic Firs or a solo gig at a Pub, O'Malley put his heart into every performance and he does it well. since. Through the years, O'Malley has performed solo and as part of The Mulligans, Blended Spirits and, currently, The Twilight Lords. He's shared bills with such artists as Mary Black, The Chieftains, The Saw Doctors, Michael Flatley and Pierce Brosnan and continues to be an ever-popular and near legendary constant on Southern California's Celtic music circuit. Indeed, Ken O?Malley was born to perform. In Dublin at the age of 15, he opened for legendary balladeer Paddy Reilly at the equally legendary Old Sheiling Pub. By the time he turned 18, he was gathering professional credits, among them a stint with Trudy's People, a group he formed that played Gaelic shows on RTÉ, Ireland's national radio and television network. His fluency in the Gaelic language was earned from his education by the Christian Brothers and his summers in the West of Ireland. A true ambassador of Irish culture, he infuses every performance with the rich history of his native land and audiences quickly become engaged with his compelling stories. One show producer put it this way: ?He holds nothing back. Whether singing a passionate ballad, playing a solo on the mandolin, or explaining the gloriously sad history of Erin his homeland, Ken O?Malley is all-in, wide open to the world, and as true as an arrow?s flight.? Another simply stated that ?Ken O'Malley connected with our audience in a way none of our other artists have.? O'malley has offered a weekly Live Stream since the Covid crisis begain and he was named one of THe Best of 2020 by the Irish Arts & Entertainment for his consistent outreach and positive attitude during these times of crisis. O'Malley will bring his musical gifts and talents this March 16 & 17 as a guest on the International Live Stram Alone/TOGETHER. The Islands Before By Greg Patrick An illuminated harp formed centrepiece of a dark room in solitary splendour awaiting the bard?s words and touch. Though blind he had vision. Even in perpetual dark he knew light once and it would not be unsung? centuries before a man who cured the blind was hung? Nailed to a tree he sang songs of a fair face over the vast sea. The smile that was like a song one could not get out of one?s head as fine a poetry as ever read like a poetry from lips read by the deaf. A smile that was silence set to music so that of an eve without her the night itself sang. Like waves of night to a distant shore. How many nights more between waves are we kept apart? ? Ulysses paces the shore with a lion?s heart. So many wakes behind and dividing seas between.

Too many battles fought to lose a queen. Two unfulfilled chairs by a silver screen. Like two empty thrones before the sea waiting for the quiet bard to sing after a phone that will never ring. Raise the shell to hear the sea. Look to the muse-blinded eyes to behold the sea?s voluminous depth in the imagery of song, even if my star-crossed way was wrong. The artist walks away for another inspiration to find? but it was always a dream and image sought by the blind. Muse smoldering red into dreams searingly like that of a warrior ?s nightmares. Like the pollen of a tropical flower that haunts with beautific dream the warrior and explorer ?s bower, vexes the composer in his tower. Makes astrologer out of astronomer. Believer of the faithless. Infected by it?s dulcet fever and for nights after it?s thrall and dreamer. Away from tired desks lined in a row as the desire for quest grow and Arthur calls for his sword and Ulysses at last returns to his bow

GREG PATRICK Con t in u ed The artist walks away for another inspiration to find? but it was always a dream and image sought by the blind. Away from tired desks lined in a row as the desire for quest grow and Arthur calls for his sword and Ulysses at last returns to his bow. The suitors see the storm of sea in his eye and against dream-differed nightmares die, gods hear at last an exiled voyager ?s cry and recited words not my own and to speak my words is to know no home. Gladiator at heart before there was a Rome. I don?t leave you on voyages of a restless heart and defiant soul must make but it?s their spell and wonder that I take as far as the horizon goes, the sigh is a wordless expression of one name, on horizon?s verge where the seas break over the heart of the castaway, gone overboard, swept away once and never reclaimed. I remember that name to the stars let the sea wash away with purging salt so many scars, of tropic nights when sigh is all that is left of battle cry, the waves it?s distant echo of so many nights and aimless fights. The moonlight?s flame has dwindled the tide has gone yet I linger like Yeats thinking of Maud Gonne. The tides rise and fall.

There the ghost of a never child holding a doll as we are playthings to as many shores and closed doors. Her hand extends like past to present? So many presents. ?Daddy will you walk the night shore with me..was it really Santa or you who left the doll by the tree..? Do reindeer fly daddy? Tell me honestly? ??

walking in air? You have her hair? Making her entrance like the dawn. I know it?s not polite to stare? but the moment was ours and even if the gods warned I hadn?t cared?

He smiles in that dreamy way he so often looked to the stars...as a rebel would through the bars. In answer he lifts her up suddenly high? ?I?ll make you fly? ?

Now the horizon awaits to be dared. Why do you go it is asked. Dangers await in the depths and in the sky. A sigh to the east doesn?t lie. There?s no reason to stay and cry. The traveler will stand the stones and hearts of stone only when he dies. The horiizon beckons me and so

The way she made me feel

too the skies.
