HOTEL INFORMATION Skovshoved Hotel is located in charming Skovshoved, one of Copenhagen’s most exclusive areas just 7 kilometres from Copenhagen city centre. There are many good shopping areas nearby; Jægersborg Allé and Strandvejen in Hellerup amongst others.
The bus departs from outside of the hotel and the train station is within walking distance. Within 15 minutes it is possible to be in downtown Copenhagen to enjoy the city’s culture, cafés, restaurants, theatres, and nightlife. One can enjoy the beautiful surrounding nature close to Skovshoved Hotel. It is possible to arrange a tour in a horse-drawn carriage or to rent one of the hotel’s bicycles for a ride through the Royal Hunting Grounds (Dyrehaven) to watch deer wander freely. We also arrange walking trips through the historical fishing village of Skovshoved to learn about the history of the area. There is a private bathing jetty for the hotels’ guests or two of Copenhagen’s best beaches within walking distance – Bellevue Beach and Charlottenlund Strandpark. Copenhagen’s oldest golf club, Copenhagen Golf Club, is located only a few kilometres away. For the children, Bakken (the world’s oldest working amusement park from 1583). The buildings originate from as far back as 1660 - when the place entertained thirsty travellers passing through the little fishing village of Skovshoved.

Over the years Skovshoved Hotel has had several famous owners. In 2002 Tofa and Ivan Nadelmann bought the hotel, and a total refurbishment was initiated in deep respect of the spirit of the hotel and the history of the house. Today the hotel stands as an architectural gem with its own wooden pier and close to several lovely beaches. The decor is stylish and characterized by a relaxed urban style with dark furniture and wooden floors, beautiful kelim carpets, original art on the walls and large comfortable sofas.
Hot hotel Over the years many highly respected head chefs have been in command, i.e. internationally famous master chef Søren Gericke and Erling Lauterbach, Philippe Houdet, Rasmus Kjær and Frank Svärd Pedersen. The strong team in the kitchen still makes sure that the standard is high and that the informal luxury is expressed in everything served. The menus are seasonal, and regular events are held, such as chefs meetings, Winemakers’ Dinner, fungi festivals, evenings with venison food and with shellfish. The fund ended 2016 at a price of 103,33 with a return of 6,94%. In comparison the broad based world stock index MSCI World returned 5,32%. It has been a difficult year for stocks with an oil crisis, Brexit and the election of Donald Trump as US president. These events have all influenced the markets heavily in the shorter term with large fluctuations as a result.
What will happen in 2017? We have a strong feeling that many investors under-estimate the potential in the stock market, especially when one takes a longer view and disregard short-term fluctuations. Last year saw a continued fall in bond interest rates, causing rises in the price of bonds and not least the prices of corporate bonds. A higher rate of growth in most western economies will eventually cause a pick-up in inflation and therefore higher interest rates. As a consequence we foresee falling bonds prices in the years ahead. The rise in the American economy has caused inflation and consequently rising rates of interest. The move towards will in the shorter term be driven by the American economy, and is expected to come to Europe with some delay. In Europe we will need to see the Brexit negotiations get underway, have the outcome of the German election in September and hopefully a clearer outlook on the Italian political scene. Those are the reasons we continuously believe in the American economy and therefore the American stock market. Higher activity and increasing interest rates will support the USD, which we forecast again to move towards 7,25 – 7,50 against the DKK. We believe

in increasing oil prices, particularly seen in the light of an OPEC agreement and a clear improvement in the Chinese economic activity. We expect the major US stock indices to rise by 10–15%, while the European indices will be lagging at least during the rest of this year. Rising interest rates will negatively influence property investors and companies with high debt levels, while our traditional value stocks in stable earning companies with low debt will recapture lost ground, particularly our 30% weight in consumer stocks. Companies like BMW, Apple, GAP and Disney will improve on turnover and deliver good results, perhaps already in 2017 – or later.
This time it’s different? Many stock investors have grown impatient, since most stock investments have not been very lucrative these past couple of years. There has been a move towards sectors with higher risk, than what is offered by traditional value stocks. There has been a particular search towards the increasingly large companies exploring the rising internet trade; as for instance the Amazon stock, which has risen some 30% this year alone. Some of those stocks resemble the DOT.com bubble, which burst in 2000. At that time quite a lot of internet companies were traded quite extravagantly up in price, as many people thought: Yes, but this time it is different! A book has been written with the title: This time it’s different, which elaborates on the naivety of stock brokers, who should be close to the market and know that one does absolutely not have to pay highly overpriced stocks in order to be part of the future stock market party. Our Value Funds is invested in companies that produce beer, food, medicine, toilet paper and soap. Products that have a constant demand over time, while at the same time also these traditional consumer goods companies moving an increasing share of their trade into the on-line market place. We believe that the old economic mechanisms still work – some people say that after 6-7 years of a low growth economy comes a high growth period. We feel that this is close at hand and therefore we recommend our customers to be over-weight in stocks for the coming 3-4 years. Our portfolios are traded at an average P/E of 16,4, which is lower than the historic level for stocks seen over the last several decades. In the present stock market many good and stable companies are still cheap, while many stocks in the ‘hot’ sectors are somewhat more expensive.

T O THE E XTRAVAGANT To excite, surprise and inspire are three sentiments, which the Danish high-end jewellery brand io jewels wishes that one can feel when one wears their jewellery. Meet the creative director and jewellery designer Kristina Rosing, who lives for the success of the sale of each piece of jewellery.
Text: Lisbeth Brahe io jewels is one of the leading Danish high-end jewellery brands that makes jewellery and accessories for women and men in a tight and classic design. io jewels has in a few years gained momentum in the jewellery industry both in Denmark and abroad. io jewels was initially best known for making bracelets with black rubber, but this production has been overtaken by entirely new and unique designs. Behind io jewels is the creative director and jewellery designer Kristina Rosing, who is the third generation in the family business ”Ragnar Ure & Juveler” in Odense. Here she runs a bustling business together with her parents, Alice and Steen Ragnar. Kristina Rosing is responsible for the design and development of the jewellery, including the company’s own jewellery brand io jewels. Kristina Rosing’s path to her current work has come about as a natural part of her upbringing - and the cooperation with the parents, Alice and Steen Ragnar, is an ordinary part of everyday life; “I grew up in a world where my family through several generations has worked with some of the world’s leading watch brands as well as gold and diamonds. I have two design educa-

tions on my resume, so it was therefore a natural step for me to combine the two worlds as creative director and designer. I have great respect for my parents’ long experience within the watch and jewellery industry, so I listen a lot to them. Often their changes and inputs to my designs are really good”, says Kristina Rosing.

It emphasizes that this is a jewellery brand where the customer can be a part of the expression in the jewellery. Kristina Rosing explains, ”It is great pleasure to feel that io jewels today has become a jewellery brand, where customers know our expressions and can actually identify it without our logo. This means that our customers know where we want to go. With that security, we have now also made the effort to make unique jewellery, because we can clearly tell that we sell jewellery to individuals who both care about style and quality and who also dare to stand out”. The Unika collection, Candy, includes all types of jewellery; necklaces, pendants, earrings and rings, but also jewellery for men like cufflinks and the more raw bracelets. io jewels has all its jewellery made by their own Danish goldsmith. ”Men are not afraid to enhance their personal expression through jewellery . Of course, it’s not as ostentatious as it is for women, but men are on their way. This includes everything from our classic io jewels rubber bracelets to the more daring rings. We have succeeded in making jewellery that is really durable and which is well suited for both office life and the more active life outdoors,” explains Kristina Rosing.

is to mix material in all kinds of combinations in order to produce jewellery that is both simple and can be used in daily life and the more extravagant jewellery that can adorn a festive outfit. Kristina Rosing reveals; ”My designs need to be different, and as a result I have also started to use more colours. Colours are unique and beautiful and have their very own play. I feel that our at times drab Danish daily life may require a bit of “bang”, and colours do deliver this. A brilliantly coloured piece of jewellery often appears wonderfully surprising with a pair of jeans. And if there are festivities on the program, I believe one can easily dress up with several different kinds of jewellery.” Kristina Rosing always looks far and wide at trade fairs abroad for brilliantly coloured stones when she buys for her production, but it is only now that she has given herself a permission to go “all in” on the entire colour palette. “You can always find colours in the jewellery I wear. Personally, I am very happy about champagne-coloured stones. They are immensely well-suited for a more sporty wristwatch,” says Kristina Rosing.
New creative energy When Kristina Rosing’s busy day behind the design table ends and when her meetings are over, then it is time for family life where a little son of about one years old keeps her going. This means that the creative ideas have acquired another dimension. “Life with my son Alexander means that I must work at somewhat alternate times. Sometimes early in the morning or sometimes late in the evening. But creativity can’t be put into a system, so my ideas for new designs can easily come to me when I go for a walk or am doing something completely different than when sitting with my sketchbook. All of a sudden, I walk past a play of colours or see some exciting lines, and then new idea for fine details on a new jewellery design is born.”

This is where glass blower Anders Raad and potter Christian Bruun fashion glass and clay in their workshop overlooking the forest on one side and race horse paddocks on the other. Text: Lisbeth Brahe Just a stone's throw away from the boutiques of Jægersborg Allé, at the edge of the forest at Travbanevej 12, is a remarkable oasis of creativity that contrasts with the gleaming perfection of the nearby shopping street. This is the site of a professional pottery and glass-making workshop and outlet, where you can appreciate good craftsmanship, the difference in the detail and the unexpected in the moment shared by the craftsman and his material.

Travbanevej may well conjure up equestrian images, but it is not the smell of horses that greets you when you open the door. The 200 m2, light-filled building with 5-metre high ceilings and exposed wooden beams smells of baked clay, hot glass and craftsmen busy at their trade. The building originally housed race course facilities and was used as a garage until 18 years ago, when glass blower Anders Raad set up shop and established his glass workshop. He was joined 3½ years ago by potter Christian Bruun. Today the two artisans work side by side, each in their own section of the workshop, and it is here that they exhibit and sell their glassware, stoneware urns and unique ceramic artefacts. They also offer the public a hands-on experience, which anyone is welcome to try. But we'll come to that later.
A free space The doors of the workshop are always open, as long as one of them is there. Curious passers-by can pop in to watch the production process, enjoy the exhibits or maybe purchase a gift. "We get visits from all sorts of people, and all of them are curious about our work. I think many are intrigued about how raw materials are turned into a finished product. Today it's rare for people to work with their hands. Most of the things we buy are manufactured in a faraway country, but at our workshop we take the raw materials, shape and craft them into objects, and the finished products are never identical," says Christian Bruun. Not far from the workshop is a completely different world of high-end property, prestige cars and fast-paced living. A world in which there can be pressure for everything to be perfect. This trend is precisely what Anders Raad and Christian want to resist. They want

Anders Raad, glass designer "It's exciting and challenging working with glass as a craftsman. You don't have much time to play with, as the glass has to be at exactly the right temperature. When I work I decide at the beginning what form I want to make, for example a bowl or a wine glass, but when the process starts, I let the glass partly determine what creative expression I end up with. Sometimes the result may be asymmetric or perhaps colourful, but all choices result in something. I love the speed of the process. I think it's fun having groups visiting the workshop, and it is enriching to see how they cope with a different type of challenge: they can feel rather cautious, but they end up creating their very own work of art."

Christian Bruun, potter "I work in a classic and traditional style but I like to experiment. For me, the most important thing is the relationship you have with the objects. I work with the idea of 'holding it in your hands'. 'Hold in your hands' one of my cups. It has to feel good in your hands and take on emotional value so that the cup becomes your first choice when you open the cupboard. Although pottery is something physical, on a higher plane it is about a relationship – the relationship you establish with the objects you use in your daily life."
their workshop to be a free space – a place where it is possible to just be and to take life's imperfections in your stride. "At times we all feel burdened by the pressure of wanting to be perfect. It's a warning sign telling you to jump off the treadmill before something goes wrong. We live in a world where perfect is the new normal and that can be a dangerous thing. With all the objects I make, their quality partly lies in the small variations that make them imperfect. Here at the workshop we want to create a space in which you can relax and, by seeing our work, appreciate the fact that small nuances are actually very appealing," explains Christian Bruun.
Coming together to create At their workshop, Anders Raad and Christian Bruun are not the only ones sitting at the potter's wheel or wielding the glassblowing pipe. You can come here as a group of 15 to 20 – work colleagues, friends or a family birthday – and try your hand at producing glassware or pots. Christian Bruun explains: "Our spacious and light workshop is a wonderful setting for an enjoyable, creative and alternative shared experience – a type of team-building if you like. We help with the organisation, of course, and offer guidance. And we are also happy to put a joint of lamb in the oven and let it roast while our visitors are busy at work.

Afterwards we sit down together and enjoy a meal. We have seen how lots of people start to unwind once they have got to grips with the creative process and start chatting to each other about all kinds of things. Many start developing ideas for the projects they are busy with at their workplace, while Anders and Christian, each of whom have many years' teaching experience at the Kunstakademiets Designskole (Royal Danish Academy of Design), are at hand to provide assistance and guidance. This free space encourages people to have conversations they might not have had the courage to initiate at the office – almost as if it is easier to talk when you have your hands full of wet clay rather than sitting across from each other at a desk or conference table." Of course, after a day at the workshop you take your creation home as a memento of your shared experience. And if it has a few flaws, then it's pretty much mission accomplished. Essentially, imperfection is perfection. The workshop is open from Tuesday to Friday from 12 pm to 5 pm, but visitors are always welcome inside if someone is in the workshop. It’s essential to commune with nature, especially in our business.”
Nature: the ultimate inspiration Nature is truly at the heart and soul of everything the company produces. Tired and disillusioned by the increasing amount of synthetic materials in outerwear, Wemhoener and Hoeller created the company to bring outdoor garments closer to something real. “Our inspiration goes back to our grandfathers,” says Wemhoener. “We think about what hunting was like in the 1930s and 50s - what kind of materials did they use? Hunting then had a stronger link to nature. So that is how we wanted to make our clothing. Hunting and exploring is about communing with nature. When we interact with it, we should wear garments as close to nature as possible.” It is for this reason Franken & Cie. use materials that can be found in the world around us and nothing made in a lab. Much of the mainstream, modern outerwear uses ‘membrane’ and synthetic fabrics. These fabrics are created to efficiently keep out the elements, but they also keep moisture released from the body in – which can be very uncomfortable on a long hunt or walk in the elements. The materials in Franken & Cie.’s repertoire – wool, leather, tweed, moleskin, etc. – have natural fibers which have holes small enough to keep out water and mud, but large enough to let perspiration out and maintain comfort. For Wemhoener, the biological origin of their clothes is its strongest asset. “Clothes should be honest, and natural. There’s no place for Star Wars and special effects in our clothes. Think of how wool smells. When it’s worn and wet. It certainly isn’t perfume but it has a particular and special smell – that smell lets you know that it’s real, that it is natural. That

smell is important.” It’s a matter of respect – to the Earth, to the sport of hunting and to yourself as a true outdoorsman.
Design as a differentiator Of course, it doesn’t hurt to dress up the resilience of natural materials with sharp lines and beautiful embellishments. IF ONLY WALLS C OULD SPEAK... For more than 350 years, Skovshoved Inn and Hotel has been a venue for the locals of Skovshoved (The Skovsere), an attractive stop for visitors and it is today an important part of Gentoftes cultural heritage.
The Inn in Skovshoved Hotel has existed since 1660. Coming here travelers of the day and the local fishermen would get their worst hunger fed and their thirst quenched with a mug of beer or a glass of brandy – often resulting in a feast… In 1723 the Inn became a Privileged Inn. This meaning that one was allowed to brew ones own beer and burn brandy to serve to the Inn's guests. In return one had to commit to wait upon the King's followers – when their way dropped past Skovshoved. In 1764 the Inn burnt down and the building was restored and refurbished the following year. This time larger and with utility rooms, barns and outside buildings. The fine building was now in strong contrast to the small poor fishermen's houses, but in economically difficult times the fishermen were given the possibility af keeping a tab at the Inn.

For many years, it was a tradition that the Inn Keeper handed out free beers on New Years Eve for the locals. In order to get what they deserved, the locals ate large amounts of pickled herring brine before going there. This however, eventually threatened to ruin the Inn Keeper. One New Year's Eve the Inn Keeper told them that the beer was no longer free. And very cleverly, he waited to inform everybody before the pickled herring brine had already begun to take effect. Over the years, the house has been owned by several merchants, all with a wish of maintaining the local traditions. In 2003, the hotel was taken over by the couple Tofa and Ivan Nadelmann who still runs it. Skovshoved Hotel rose in a new and fresh style after they took over a quite worn down house. The restaurant was transformed to a luxurious brasserie which is as it still stands. Ivan Nadelmann is the previous owner of AVIS Denmark and has a large focus on the serving of guests. This characterizes Skovshoved Hotel from one end to the other, together with its mantra "big enough to serve you - small enough to know you". It is lived out daily with great respect for the story, for the context of the house and… never to forget constant need of development. Restaurant Skovshoved has always been known for high-level gourmet standards and several highly-rated chefs have also had the Headchef title here. Last, the Michelin crowned Philippe Houdet who also brought a Bib Gourmand to the restaurant in 2012. Philippe ran the kitchen until February 2016. Today the kitchen is run by the fabulous Chef Rune B. Larsen and the entire house by Ms Pia E. Remillard. Pia has run several first class hotels in both Copenhagen and latest Helenekilde Badehotel in Tisvilde (Northern Sealand). Pia’s mantra is that we are all hosts and our main purpose is to welcome you as our own private guest into our own home… Welcome!

Det er hverken nødvendigt at være teamchef eller kørekollega til Sebastian Vettel for at komme til at spise frokost med ham. Et ekstraordinært dansk rejsebureau åbner de utroligste døre – også til Ferrari-kørerens frokost.

Discovery Travel arrangerer først og fremmest ekstra ordinære rejser til ekstraordinære rejsemål – f.eks. gourmet, spa og wellness på Mauritius, en ”1001 nats-rejse” til Oman eller en safari-oplevelse til Kenya. Men det med Formel 1-rejserne har grebet om sig.”

Vi bor på kørernes hotel At spise foie gras og drikke champagne, når de fleste andre sidder i kø på vej væk fra Monacos Formel 1 Grand Prix – og så i øvrigt tage privatflyet hjem, når den sidste champagne er drukket. At bo på samme hotel som kørerne, når verdens dyreste sportbegivenhed rammer Abu Dhabi. Og at spise frokost med Sebastian Vettel og Lewis Hamilton – det må vist siges at være ekstraordinært. Men det er Formel 1-oplevelser som disse, Discovery Travel har specialiseret sig i. Michael Juhl fortæller videre:

”Vi støtter de unge – for der skal ikke bare penge til at køre motorsport på højt plan – der skal rigtig mange penge til”, som Discovery Travels Executive Market Director Michael Juhl formulerer det. Mikkel Sjødahl Dam går på Helsingør Talent & Elite, der er en idrætslinje for børn, der satser på elitesport. Takket være samarbejdet mellem skolen og Team Danmark får Mikkel mulighed for både at fokusere på skole og racing. Sebastian Vettel ved at gøre klar til at smage på sejrschampagnen. Var det noget at spise frokost med tyskeren – et dansk rejseselskab kan åbne døren til den oplevelse.
”Vi fokuserer ikke så meget på rejsernes pris – vi sigter i en helt anden retning; at give vores kunder det eksklusive. Med Privatfly til Monacos Grand Prix med rejse ind og ud samme dag er det typiske eksempel. Men der er mange andre: F.eks. når vi torsdagen forud for løbet i Abu Dhabi er med til charity party sammen med kørerne. Det kan vi, fordi vi bor på kørernes hotel. Eller når vi tilbyder det, jeg tror er verdens dyreste tur til løbet på Baku i Azerbaijan – vi står på tagterrassen, hvor vi kan se omkring 40 % af banen. Og jo, vi ser Ferrari, Mercedes og Red Bull – og Kevins HAAS selvfølgelig – med et glas champagne i hånden.” ”Men måske er det mest ekstraordinære, at vi kan købe os adgang til selve pitten. Derfor kan vi faktisk arrangere en frokost med Sebastian Vettel og Lewis Hamilton. Og det altså selv om vores gæster ikke er andenkørere efter de to. Eller teamchef.”
Hvis du vil køre selv ”Men vi har andre tilbud til bilvenner end netop Formel 1-oplevelser”, fortæller Juhl videre. ”Fabriks-besøg for eksempel.” ”Sammen med den danske Aston Martin-importør inviterer vi på besøg på bilfabrikken i Gaydon, hvor bilmærket, som James Bond gjorde så berømt, bliver skabt – Gaydon, der ligger et par timers bilkørsel nordvest for London. Ud og hjem samme dag, der i øvrigt har

den ekstraordinære start: Vi lægger ud med at teste en Aston Martins topfart, 303 km/t på Roskilde Lufthavn. Og det er altså ikke i vores privatjet, lige inden vi letter – det er i en Aston Martin.” ”Og vi arrangerer rejser til vinslotte, hvor gæsterne selv er med til at blande den vin, der tappes på flasker og bringes med hjem. Særligt populært er en særlig winepeeling-dinner, hvor man selv vælger sine favoritvine, hvorefter køkkenet kreerer en middag, der passer til vinen. Men det er jo en helt anden historie”, som Michael Juhl siger.
