O jornalista e escrito Albinno Neves teve a ideia de criar o Caminho da Luz quando estava no topo do Pico da Bandeira. Dois dias antes, havia visitado a Gruta da Pedra Santa, em Catuné. Esses dois lugares, somados às experiências de peregrinar pelo Caminho de Santiago de Compostela, na Espanha, pelos caminhos de Israel, Jordânia e Vaticano, bem como pela rota de Passos de Anchieta, no Espírito Santo, serviram-lhe de inspiração. Assim, em julho de 2001, o caminho foi oficialmente instituído.

Em seu livro “Caminho da Luz, o Caminho do Brasil”, Albinno relata que essa rota é uma antiga trilha sagrada indígena e que, tempos mais tarde, foi percorrida por tropeiros, religiosos, pesquisadores e desbravadores que se metiam nas matas em busca de ouro, de minérios e de terras férteis. Hoje, o Caminho da Luz constitui-se como Patrimônio Cultural do Estado de Minas Gerais pela Lei 18.086/2009.

Journalist and writer Albinno Neves had the idea of creating the Caminho da Luz (Path of Light) while at the summit of the Bandeira Peak.

He had 2 days previously visited the Pedra Santa Grotto in Catuné. These two places coupled to his experiences in pilgrimages through Santiago de Compostela in Spain, through the routes of Israel, Jordan and the Vatican, as well as the Passos de Anchieta route in Espírito Santo, all of which were a source of inspiration. Thus, in July 2001, the trail was officially implemented.

In his book “Caminho da Luz, o Caminho do Brasil” (Path of Light, the Path of Brazil), Albinno recounts that this was na old sacred Indian trail and that later was transversed by religious devotees, farmers, religious folk and trailblazers who searched the forests for gold, minerals and fertile land. Currently, the Caminho da Luz is chartered as a Cultural Heritage under Minas Gerais edict 18.086/2009.
