TIPS FOR TAKING BETTER

iphone photos

HEY THERE! WELCOME TO THE JANELLE CARMELA PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB... So glad you're here! iPhone cameras are pretty amazing little tools if you know how to use them. Here are some quick little tips to take your photos to the next level and get some pretty spectactular shots on your own!

TIP 1 CLEAN YOUR CAMERA You use your iPhone for everything and probably take it everywhere (and if you've got little kids I'm certain you probably have who-knows-what on the lends too!).  The first step on getting clearer, brighter pictures of your own is to clean off the lens on the back AND front of your phones. This might seem like an obvious trick but it's one that is easily forgotten and gives an immediate improvement.

TIP 2

NATURAL LIGHT You always want to shoot in natural light to get the best results. If you're outside, the prettiest light is just before or just after sunset. The lighting is warmer and softer and casts a beautiful glow that makes for really magical pictures. Overcast skies also create beautiful reflection for photos, but if you're out in the bright sun, make sure you avoid shadows. If you are shooting inside, turn the overhead lights OFF and try to get close to a window that will cast natural light. Artificial light will give cast awkward hues and shadows. And try to avoid the harsh flash!

TIP 3 MOVE DON'T ZOOM! One thing that really differentiates an iPhone photo to a professional camera is resolution (or how clear the photo is). While phone cameras are only getting better, they will never quite be the same. Have you ever noticed that as you zoomed in on your phone, the image only became grainier? One thing to help with resolution is to avoid zooming. Rather than zoom, try to move closer to your subject.

TIP 4 TRY DIFFERENT ANGLESÂ Kneel down. Stand on a chair. Get close to your subject. Just get creative! You never know what could produce that perfect shot! Try turning on the "grid" on your phone and position your subject on one of the lines on either side. This is called "the rule of thirds" and will give you a more dynamic and interesting photo than keeping your subject centered.

TIP 5 PORTRAIT MODE & EDITING If you have portrait mode on your phone. try using it! It does a really fabulous job of making photos look more professional. And don't be afraid to try editing your photos! You can play around with them right in your camera app or you can purchase editing tools to help enhance your photos! You can find my presets here, via etsy. And I'm offering new moms $5 off during quarantine using code "betterpics" . You can load them right to your phone and take your pictures to the next level.
