even years ago, YPICA Lee Lim Ming College began its English Stream to be more inclusive to ethnic minority students. It was a challenge in the beginning, reworking the curriculum to fit the learning needs of non-Chinese speaking students. However, having a multi-cultural educational institution, that uses English as a medium of instruction, opened more ways of learning for all our students. From Cultural Day to Study Tours abroad, YPICA suddenly became an exciting college that attracted clever, creative, confident, and competitive students. After seven years, we are now starting to hear some good news from our first YPICA non-Chinese graduates. Iccha Thapa and Bishal Thapa have visited us recently and shared how YPICA became instrumental in their budding careers in the aviation industry. “When I was still in secondary school, I had already appreciated the many activities that YPICA had planned for us,” Iccha recalled, referring to the variety of learning opportunities in different subject areas which teachers had introduced to them. “Yes, especially the one for our Applied Learning, that was how we got interested in aviation in the first place,” Bishal agreed. Both Iccha and Bishal were part of the Applied Learning course offered to senior secondary students in YPICA. Iccha explained that there were a few of them who joined the class which was taught by Principal Kwok. “The good thing about it was that the ApL was actually credited to our studies. In fact, it was one of the reasons why we got accepted in university,” Iccha added. Bishal finished Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Aviation Management and Logistics while Iccha finished Bachelor of Science with Honours in Aviation Operation and Systems. They are both in the process of applying for jobs and it is only a matter of time before our outstanding alumni go places.
