here is a clever riddle in the nerd world which goes: How can you send tools to astronauts in space in a matter of seconds? The answer is simple: send it through an email. Those who do not get the riddle simply means that they do not have any idea of how 3-D printing technology works. So, we have invited Mr Joseph Chan to shed some light on 3-D printing technology and, hopefully, by the end of this article, you will have a better understanding of this important advancement in technology. 3-D Printing is an additive manufacturing in which the object is created by adding many thinly sliced layers together until the object is created. Before learning how to make your own 3-D object, we should first learn how it works. Everything starts with a 3-D Model that you can create by yourself or download from an online 3-D library. With the help of some websites and applications, you may download 3-D objects and try to print it out using a 3-D printer. Yeggi and Flashprint are good examples. Yeggi (https://www.yeggi.com/) is like an online library for 3-D objects. People all over the world share their 3-D design there. Some of the designs are free of charge and you may download the designs in "stl" file format, the format used in 3-D printing which stands for Standard Tessellation Language. It would be a good place for beginners of 3-D printing since they can broaden their horizon by taking reference with others' designs. FlashPrint is an application that works together with 3-D printers “Adventurer 3” and “Creator Pro 2” that we use in our school. With this application, you can upload the "stl" file here and do the slicing to see the process of how it is constructed. At the same time, you need to understand the process of how it is done then consider whether we need to give a supporting part to the 3-D object. In TINKERCAD, you can create your own project by combining different shapes and 3-D models together and use different colors. You can build up your design such as a phone holder, blocks, or even as a 3-D-model interior design of your home. With this important function, many companies have applied this technology to their design process in making prototypes, which can give fast and easy results at a cheaper cost. Through 3-D printing, your spatial sense will improve because by building your own models, you can calculate the different dimensions of your objects. Also, your creativity will be boosted by others’ designs through collaborative work. We hope that 3-D printing will inspire students to think and boost their creativity. In the coming years, expect more 3-D printing activities as it is one of our exciting school projects under STEM education. Students will be taught about how to use the 3-D printer, how to make their own designs and, most importantly, how to come up with useful designs that can solve real-life problems.

Bachelor of Arts in Applied Social Science (Honours) Sheffield Hallam University (CityU SCOPE)

My university experiences thus far have been amazing. I have learned and experienced so many new things in such a short period of time, and it has gone by so fast. I am still discovering all the opportunities that university offers me. A very welcoming place, and from the first day, I felt at home here. I have made many new friends from many different backgrounds and that has allowed me an insight into their cultures. University experience is different from the typical High School one. One must be independent in terms of study and class attendances. My advice to YPICALLMC students would be to choose your major wisely and to not be afraid to try different things. Having a handful of skills and experiences will bring more opportunities to your door. Work hard and play hard. I wish you all the best and success in life!

University can be intimidating, but you should take it as a challenge and enjoy it instead. It’s about more than gaining a degree, it’s an experience that changes you and prepares you for the future. I gained so many skills that I’ll be able to apply in future jobs. For example, I had to do numerous presentations throughout university. We were told that doing them would help prepare us for interviews and give us vital skills for jobs. I didn’t like presentations, so it was a challenge. However, the more I did them, the more my confidence grew, and I found I was much better at talking in front of a group of people. I know that I will feel more comfortable doing presentations in an interview or job. To fellow YPICA students, don’t be afraid to ask for help or admit you’re struggling, make use of the help your university offers and most importantly, believe in yourself. You can do it!

SUSHMITA GURUNG

Going to university was a bittersweet moment. All my classmates that I have known for many years were going to different ways. Nonetheless, the opportunity that was waiting for me in university excited me. Thei has a slogan: “Work ready”, and they mean it. Since Year 1 summer holiday, Thei has recommended many internship opportunities to students. Among all the internship offers, I chose to do my internship in Hong Kong Disneyland where I worked as a photographer. This experience taught me how to apply the theories I have learned in the classroom in my actual work. My advice to my fellow YPICA schoolmates is to keep learning and never give up on your dream. Find all the possible ways to reach your dream. If you want to be a hairdresser, find where you can learn about that. If you want to be an engineer but your score is slightly low, then find a pathway to reach your dream. My HKDSE score was not impressive, but if I can do it, then I'm sure you can do it, too.

SEHAR NAVEED

Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies City University of Hong Kong

Never did I think time would fly by so fast. As a YPICA student, Uni was just a distant thought. Now, there is only a year until I complete my Master Degree and until I dress in my cap and gown. All the years of hard work will be paid off. If I were to describe university in one word, it would be refreshing. It’s like drinking a glass of cold water during a hot day, or like taking a breath of fresh air in earth’s pure nature. University is refreshing because it finally feels like you have taken a step away from high school and your childhood and a step towards maturity, growing and finding yourself. If you are graduating in these next few months, take some time to reflect on what you have learned. You would be surprised at what lessons you will keep coming back to in your future endeavours. High school prepares you for Uni and teaches you a lot of things – academically, emotionally, and socially. University life is no joke, so take it seriously and don’t waste time. For those who cannot get into university directly, do not lose hope and never give up.

alloween is a much-awaited event in school because of the eerie haunted house and the chance to wear scary costumes. This school year, we decided to skip the haunted house, because Covid-19 is scarier, and instead opened the hall for a Halloween exhibition on 31st October 2021. Each class had the opportunity to participate by designing their own Halloween board. They also made a video introduction about their board. Students enjoyed decorating the hall, making it creepier with each severed hand or bloody skull. For at least one afternoon, students were able to escape into a spooky imaginary world while learning English. Yes, beyond the graveyard lies an opportunity to learn vocabulary related to one of America's beloved holidays—Halloween. There were booths where students could play word games, and a mini-cinema where they could watch the latest terrifying flicks from this year’s After Dark Horror Short Film Competition. There were other activities leading up to the main event like the Creepy Tales Short Story Writing Competition, the Monster Scavenger Hunt, and the Halloween Mask-Making Competition. Surely, the Halloween House was missed but there were other scares that got our knees shaking, heart pounding, and hair standing on end.

ll flights grounded. Borders closed. Trips cancelled. No holiday? No worries! Welcome to the YPICA Staycation! Because it is still unsafe to travel, our Life-Wide Learning trips and study tours have been cancelled. Thus, YPICA Lee Lim Ming College has embraced the idea of a “staycation”. For those who are not familiar, a “staycation” is a recent trend in recreating holidays without flying off to a far-away destination. In other

words, a stay-vacation or “staycation”. The YPICA Staycation is trip around the world. Students get to “travel” to different cities worldwide and take photos in front of famous monuments or locations with their classmates and friends. Times are different now and safety must come first, so with disinfected hands and masks on, students made the most of this activity by taking many selfies and groufies. Behind the mask, we’re still smiling.

They walked in the hall nervous but walked out feeling confident and ready to face the challenges of secondary school.

GET TO KNOW

YOLo Y!

FEATURE STORY

t the start of the school year, around 80 students were given invitations to join a new organization. The organization seemed top secret and it got the students curious. During their first orientation, it was revealed that the new organization would be a pioneering leadership programme for a very select group of students in YPICA. Dubbed as Young Outstanding Leaders of YPICA or YOLo Y, the students who showed up with their orientation were called YOLo Y Recruits. The recruits have started their training and each activity they complete will advance them closer to the final stage of the recruitment process. From the 80 initial participants, the organization has now selected 40 candidates who will undergo several tasks to prove their dedication to the organization. Needless to say, YOLo Y is looking for smart, active, motivated, creative, responsible, resourceful, caring, and dedicated students who have the passion to make a positive contribution to our community. The recruits have done teambuilding and problem-solving activities, as well as journalism training which will be an essential skill in the next phase of the programme. An Ocean Park trip and an overnight camp had to be put on hold due to Covid-19 restrictions but once things go back to normal, YOLo Y promises more activities outside the school. Out-of-town trips are also in the works. While the organization is very strict and selective in their recruitment process, interested students are encouraged to have a positive attitude and wait for the next round of applications.

On the Hype Train

Matt

A single mother and her two kids move into a small town where mysterious and unexplained earthquakes occur. The kids are the descendants of the original Ghostbusters and they have got to suit up to save the world from evil paranormal entities.

Ghostbusters is one of my favourite movies of the 1980s. It is a funny supernatural adventure. Even the sequel was decent. I've always wanted to see a Ghostbusters 3 that would continue the story in a new direction. The forgetful reboot was disappointing but it seems that this third chapter will finally push through with many promising aspects--a great cast and an ingenious choice for a director, Jason Reitman, the son of the original Ghostbusters director, Ivan Reitman.

The ultimate upcoming movie for me has to be Godzilla vs Kong. For many years, I've always wanted to see these two iconic giant monsters have a rematch after their first battle in King Kong vs Godzilla (1962). As a fan of these two characters, I can finally celebrate the battle of the century. Along After the events of Godzilla: King of the with a promising director, great monsters, Godzilla has now taken back his cast, and new additions, like the throne from Ghidorah and is the true king first live action Mechagodzilla in 18 of the monsters, but there's another king looking to take the throne, Kong! The world years, this film is defnitely one to watch in March 2021. falls apart as an all out war between the two god-like titans break out.

After the death of Superman in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Batman unites several super-powered individuals to form the Justice League, in order to prepare for an alien threat that is coming to Earth--Steppenwolf's army of Parademons and their leader Darkseid.

When Justice League was released in 2017, many fans (including myself) were disappointed because it was a mediocre, bland, run-of-the-mill superhero movie. On top of that, the film suffered terrible visual effects, bad color-grading and a lack of respect for the previous DC Extended Universe movies. Zack Snyder’s original version is darker, longer, and with more action set pieces and sequences. There is a lot more character development as well and, simply epic. The fact that all the cast members are back to reprise their roles intrigues me. After a huge fan petition, Warner Bros, HBO Max and Zack Snyder are going to release his true vision on HBO Max in March, 2021.
