Applikon Biotechnology | The Next Step
The Next Step Applikon Biotechnology is a world leader in developing and supplying advanced bioreactor systems from laboratory scale to production scale. We are the only company that can take a customer from the initial screening stage up to full-scale production using the same platform. This minimizes scale-up risks and guarantees the shortest time to market for our customers’ new product development. Applikon is known for bringing new technologies to the market. These new technologies offer advantages in process efficiency for research and development as well as pilot plant and production scale processes. As a focused mid sized company we live by our motto

Applikon Biotechnology moves to Biotech Campus Delft1, Netherlands The new state of the art facility of Applikon Biotechnology is located at the Science Park Technopolis in Delft, one of the five locations of Science Port Holland. The building provides Applikon with a floor area of 3,700 m², in a unique combination of office, laboratory and production space.
1) Biotech Campus Delft consists of two locations: Technopolis and the DSM site. The sites are created to encourage (biotech) innovations, to realize a significant reduction in CO2 emissions while stimulating the economy. Moreover, the international reputation of TU Delft and DSM in the field of industrial biotechnology are a basis for the two sites. One location is the site of the new building of LaB6 DSM and the other location is Technopolis. Cepezed architects have designed the facility, in partnership with Smit Westerman and Tree – Delft. Heembouw constructed the building.
The unique floor and ceiling construction with integrated (air) channels and piping ensures optimum floor height within a limited space. The low positioning of the open elements in the frontage of the building creates a pavilion-like atmosphere with optimal view from the workplaces. The entrance features a fully glazed facade from the ground floor to the top floor, this transforms the area in a pleasant informal meeting space. In addition, the building has a spacious roof terrace that is completely surrounded by a green roof garden. Climate control in the building is realized by means of an energy efficient thermal storage system. With this system, ground water bearing layers in the earth are used for storing excess heat in summer and excess cold in winter. The excess heat stored in summer is used to heat the building in the winter and the excess stored cold is used in summer to cool the building. Such a thermal storage system is an efficient and sustainable way for climate control in the building. The thermal comfort system consists of 3,250 m² floor/ceiling heating and cooling.
Our new facility reflects the quality and the advanced technology of the products that Applikon Biotechnology brings to the market, in a perfect way.
Applikon Biotechnology | The Next Step
In the weekend of August 16th 2013 Applikon Biotechnology has moved into their new high-tech facility in Delft. The complete move took just 3 days, which is an example of the efficiency and focus that the company can realize when large projects need to be completed in a limited time. The new facility is a building that reflects the quality and the advanced technology of the products that Applikon Biotechnology brings to the market and provides a strong base for future growth.

From Past to Present 1970 Pieterman hardglas hires Mr. Jan van Burg in the technical scientific glass department. This is the start of what later will become Applikon Biotechnology. Pieterman is an industrial glass manufacturer.
1973 Applikon BV was founded in 1973 as a subsidiary of Pieterman BV.
1974 In 1974 Applikon starts her activities by selling the technical products of Pieterman, the so-called Technical Scientific equipment. The core products are the electro-chemical laboratory analysis instruments of the Swiss Company Metrohm AG. Besides these products, Applikon also represents products of other foreign firms, mainly products based on Biotechnology. Three groups of specialists support these activities, application research, training and project group. This strategy is also anchored in the company name: “Appli” is deducted from the English “to apply”; and the last part “kon” is used in a lot of city names in Switzerland. Applikon is located in Vlaardingen, Holland.
