"ALPHABETS" FOCUSES ON DESIGN AND FORM-MAKING BASED ON LETTERS FROM THE FONT "HELVETICA". THE FOCUS OF THIS COURSE IS TO EXPLORE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FORMS, DRAWING CONVENTIONS, SOFTWARES, AND MODEL-MAKING TECHNIQUES. THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER, I USED THE LETTERS "G" AND "R" TO CREATE DIFFERENT FORMS AND REPRESENTATION METHODS FOR THESE FORMS, DERIVING INTO MANY UNIQUE FORMS BASED ON FORMAL OPERATIONS USED IN RHINOCEROS 6.

EXERCISE 1: 2D TYPOGRAPHY GEOMETRIC LOGIC

2D TYPOGRAPHY FOCUSES ON THE 2-DIMENSION LOGIC OF THE HELVETICA LETTERS "G" AND "R". EXERCISE 1A IS A LOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE TWO LETTERS AND CREATING A VARIATION BY USING THE CENTER LINE OF THE ORIGINAL HELVETICA LETTER AND OFFSETTING IT TO CREATE AN AREA. EXERCISE 1B IS ABOUT COMBINING AND SUBTRACTING MULTIPLE CHARACTERS AT DIFFERENT SIZES TO CREATE A VARIATION IN AREA.

EXERCISE 2: 3D ALPHABET VARIATION MUTATION ANALYSIS

3D ALPHABET IS A SERIES OF EXERCISES ON FORM-MAKING, USING COMMANDS FROM RHINOCEROS 6 AND THE 2D FORMS CREATED FROM EXERCISE 1. EXERCISE 2A, 2B, AND 2D ARE EXPLORATIONS OF DIFFERENT THREE-DIMENSIONAL FORMS IN SERIES, USUALLY THROUGH MUTATION OR VARIATION. EXERCISE 2C IS A SET OF DRAWINGS THAT REPRESENT THE FORMAL OPERATIONS THAT GUIDE THE FORM-MAKING PROCESS.

EXERCISE 3: 3D FABRICATION METHODS MATERIALS

PHYSICAL 3-DIMENSIONALIZATION

3D FABRICATION IS AN EXPLORATION INTO MAKING REAL-LIFE MODELS FOR ONE OF MANY MODEL-MAKING STRATEGIES. THIS EXERCISE INVOLVES A FEW MODEL-MAKING STRATEGIES BASED ON OBJECTS CREATED IN EXERCISE 2 AND REFINING THEM TO MAKE THEM REAL. EXERCISE 3A IS A SET OF DRAWINGS ON FABRICATING AND GUIDES FOR ASSEMBLING MODELS. EXERCISE 3B IS ONE REAL MODEL, IN WHICH I SELECTED TO MAKE THE "EGGCRATE" MODEL FROM EXERCISE 3A.

EXERCISE 4: 3D FEATURES COUNTERS CONTAINERS COSMETICS

3D FEATURES IS AN EXPLORATION OF OPENINGS FROM COUNTERS, SHELLS AS CONTAINERS, AND TEXTURE AS COSMETICS. THESE BRIDGE THE FORM-MAKING PROCESS FROM IMAGINARY TO THE REAL WORLD. EXERCISE 4A IS AN EXPLORATION ON VARIOUS OPENINGS IN PROFILES CREATED FROM EXERCISE 2, WHILE ADDING A WALL THICKNESS TO EACH ITEM. EXERCISE 4B IS A COMBINATION OF PROFILES FROM EXERCISE 2 AND ADDING A CONTAINER AROUND IT. EXERCISE 4C USES EXERCISE 4B AND SUGGESTS A REAL-LIFE SCENERY, USING RENDERINGS. 38|ARC182|SPRING 2019|HUNKER|EXERCISE 4
