摺紙遊戲「東南西北」深得人心、代代相傳，
作 為 藝 術 村，JCCAC 除了以特 惠租 金為 新 晉
不只 因 為 它 是 一 件 大 人和 小 朋 友 的 共 同 玩
藝 術 家 提 供 工 作 室 進 行 創 作 外， 亦 特 設 不
意，還 是 創意的象徵、情感的 載 體，以 及香

探 索 人 生 方 向；黃 翠 雯 和 黃 楚 翹 分 別 利 用 陶瓷 和書法， 跟 觀 眾 大玩關 於 想像的遊 戲； 霍慧中透過唐卡繪畫，玩轉現今中西文化對 「神」的 認 知；許 開 嬌 創 作 青 花 紙 巾，挑 戰 人們對「藝 術」和「日常」的既有概念。

For this year’s JCCAC Festival, the theme is “N.E.W.S.”, with emphasis on the importance of learning through games and playing, artistic creation, as well as life and culture. The acronym of the four cardinal directions North, East, West and South, intends to express an idea that could cross the boundary of East and West, old and new and much more. As an arts centre, Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) has been providing a relaxing environment for the public to experience arts and culture. To enhance diversity and strengthen partnership, JCCAC is delighted to co-present with one of our resident art organisations, Hong Kong Society for Education in Art, the feature exhibition Group Exhibition of
Hong Kong Visual Arts Education Festival in our two levels of Galleries to showcase approximately 400 pieces of works in various art forms. Participants include local and overseas teachers and students, as well as budding and established artists - including Au Yeung Nai-chim, Chan Kahing, Chui Tze-hung, Tony Ip, Lonely Lau, Joe Li, Mui Chong-ki, Pantone C, Violet Shum, Victor Tai, Stephen Wong, Wong Ling-yu, Anthony Yau, Jovial Yeung, Hong Kong Puppet and Shadow Art Center, etc.
man’s work Way explores possibilities in life through light, shadow and space. Amanda Vong’s ceramics works in Container and Charlotte Wong’s calligraphy works in Flower both invite the public to play with their imagination. Other unusual exhibitions include Chantal Fok’s As One which explores the notion of “God” in Chinese and Western cultures through contemporary Thangka, and Angel Hui’s Dok Kiu challenges our polarised view of arts and everyday objects. To encourage public participation, the month-long festival also features a weekend fair and various free programmes, including art demonstrations, workshops, performances, open air film screening, talks, etc. For up close and personal encounters with artists in their creative lair, docent guided tours to studios are definitely not to be missed. I hope the programmes this year will inspire you to discover the subtle relationship between arts and games. May your love of art grow and become a source of personal empowerment and fulfilment.

This year, Group Exhibition of Hong Kong Visual Arts Education Festival , with the theme of “Aesthetic Creation”, is copresented by JCCAC and HKSEA. Being the feature exhibition of JCCAC Festival 2017, it aims to encourage students, teachers, parents and the public to discover the beauty hidden in plain sight in our everyday life through visual art teaching and learning. Through this exhibition, we wish to share joy and positive energy among people in our society. Approximately 400 pieces of works in various art forms created by local and overseas teachers and students, as well as established artists, are showcased.

光在黑暗中指引方向，如紙玩具「東南西北」 形式 和 內 容已 經「 整 定」，餘下 可以 選 擇 的 大概只有執行的方式…… 「其 實 不 然。誰 說 遊 戲 規 則 不 可 以修 改？誰 說 漆 黑 中 不 可以一直 走下去。」展 覽 的 創 作 靈 感 來 自 一 盞 夜 深 公 路 上 的 街 燈，藝 術 家 戴樂文透 過 創作探索光線、空間，還有人 生 方向。 The fortune telling paper “cootie catcher” points us to our “fate” like a flicker of light in complete darkness. But the rules of this game are set and there seems little else we can do except to follow the destiny…… “No. Who says that we cannot change the rules? Who says that we cannot carry on in darkness?” Inspired by a street lamp at night, artist Daai Lok-man creates art pieces through which he explores light and shadow, space, as well as the possibilities in life.

少創作人的靈感爆發地，甚至被譽為思考作 品的神聖殿堂。」 藝術家許開嬌在展場內放置一個馬桶，並將 多卷 青 花衞 生 紙 作品 從 不 同 樓 層 垂吊下去， 任它們往四方伸延，一方面儀式化地呈現 靈 感 產 生 的 過 程，另 一方 面 玩 味「公 共 空 間」 與「私密地帶」的界限。 “Dok Kiu is colloquial Cantonese for brainstorming. As Archimedes would no doubt agree, the best place for nurturing creative thinking to come up with your eureka moment is while one is alone in the bathroom.” The signature Qinghua work on toilet rolls by artist Angel Hui Hoi-kiu radiates from the toilet seat installed at the centre of the exhibition venue. The installation serves as visualisation of the “production” of inspiration and creativity, and provokes the public to contemplate the notions of “public space” and “personal territory”.

they see obsolete objects such as plastic camera film canisters and cassette tape covers. They will play with them and ask questions. It is a game.” Artist Amanda Vong makes porcelain casts of obsolete objects and fill them with paper-cuttings made from drawings by children to represent what they imagined the unfamiliar objects to be. The audience can see through the translucent porcelain 「 將 具 代 表 性 的 懷 舊 物 品 —— 如 菲 林 膠 筒、 卡式 錄 音帶 盒 等——放 到小朋友手 裡，他們

古 今 中 外、 東 西 文 化 中， 都 找 到「 神」 這

個 形 象 或 概 念。 在 今 日 的 香 港，「 男 神」、 「 女 神」、「 教 主 」 等 更 充 斥 整 個 社 會。 在新 舊文化的衝擊下，藝術家霍慧中從自身 的宗教信仰出發，結合藏傳佛教傳統繪畫與 當代／流行文化 元 素，創作出一系列當代 唐 卡作品，回應（甚至諷刺）現今社會對「神」 的認知。 “God”, as a concept or an image, is found across different cultural contexts – the East, the West; in modern days or in the past. In colloquial language nowadays in Hong Kong, “God”, “Goddess”, “Pope”, etc. have acquired other meanings too. The words have become euphemisms for “the perfect guy”, “the perfect girl” and “trend setter”! Artist Chantal Fok integrates elements of contemporary pop culture and traditional Tibetan Buddhist art to create a series of contemporary Thangka as response to (and sometimes satire on) such contemporary euphemisms related to God.

從《 蘭 亭序》的「流 觴 曲水」（註 1）和古代

文人的「行酒令」（註 2）中汲取靈感，藝術 系（副修 音 樂）畢業、對中國書 畫深感 興 趣 的黃 楚 翹，利用不同的物料書寫 詩 句，並 以 遊戲方式邀請觀眾參與其中。 Inspired by drinking games favoured by scholars in Ancient China, artist Charlotte Wong creates calligraphy of poems with various writing tools and materials. The audience is invited to take part in her intimate game of words.
註 1 ︰源於中國的遊 戲，後流 傳至日本及朝鮮。玩法 是參加者坐在河渠兩旁，並 將 酒杯置於水中，讓它順流而下。酒杯停在誰面前，誰就取杯飲酒。 註 2 ︰中國人飲酒時的助興遊戲。玩法一般是於席間推舉一人為「令官」，其餘參 與遊戲的人聽令輪流說詩詞及聯語等，違令者或負者罰飲酒。

“Drawing sets me free from constrains

and judgement. It is like playtime for me and makes my heart sing. I can draw realistically or totally out of proportion just for the joy of it. Any lines accidentally drawn out of place are not mistakes but new and fun tangents for the imagination.” Illustrator Kathy Lam loves drawing animals. Her current favourite is Terrier dogs, as shared in this exhibition.
「繪畫是非常自由的，沒所謂對錯。將畫畫當 作玩耍，這份心情 很 是美好。有時畫得比較 真實；有時畫得不符合比例；不小心畫歪了， 或許是一個有趣的開端。」 喜歡繪畫動物的插畫家黑山，最近比較多畫 「㹴犬」這個狗品種，於是決定展出筆下外形 各異、表情豐富的㹴犬。

「 創 作 靈 感 來 自 我 喜 愛 的 歌 川 廣 重（1797派發展的日本浮世繪畫師。」 歌川廣重生於日本江戶時 代，畫作中記錄的 雖然 是當時的風景和生活，但作品流露的淡 淡 情 懷 卻 超 越 時 空，教 現 代 人 亦 為 之 動 容。 藝 術 家 鄭 展 文 以歌 川廣 重《名 所 江 戶百景》 中四幅不同時節的作品為創作主線，並延續 其《胚胎系列》，重新演繹及創作出本展覽。 “This series is inspired by my favourite Ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige (17971858), whose Eastern influence played an important role in the development of Impressionism in the western arts world.” Utagawa Hiroshige was born during the Edo period in Japan. Although his works mainly depict natural scenery and contemporary life, the sentiments transcend time and space to deeply touch our modern souls. Re-interpreting four pieces of works from One hundred famous views of Edo by Utagawa Hiroshige, artist Cheng Chin-man presents this exhibition as an extension of his signature Embryo series.

和意 念的演 繹。「現代水墨 畫 的 思 潮，是 東 方 主 義 與 西 方 主 義 之 爭；至 於 技 法 上， 乃 南 北 文 化 之 差 異 與 融合。而藝 術的表達，往往來自畫家的文化 內涵。」 擅 長水 墨 和 書 法 的 藝 術 家 徐 子 雄 與 一 眾 畫 友，大 談 中 西 合 璧、南 北 互 通 的 創 作 種 種； 並即場示範創作及展出山水畫，以畫會友。 Art is the representation of any art form with its particular techniques and aesthetics. “The concept of modern ink wash painting is built on a clash between western and eastern art; the techniques originated from both the north and the south. During the process of art making, the artist reflects upon both cultural identity and the inner self.” Artist Chui Tze-hung specialises in ink wash painting and Chinese calligraphy. In this sharing session with other artist friends, his views and insights about this arts genre are shared through discussion and demonstration.
