Vesiteitse voi tunnetusti seilata oikeastaan mihin päin maailmaa tahansa. Kun nostat ankkurin Aurajoessa, voit päätyä toiselle puolelle maapalloa. Sama pätee kamaritoimintaan. Ankathan uivat kaikilla vesillä luonnostaan sulavasti, mutta jos oma kv-kompassisi hakee vielä suuntaa, tästä voit napata muutaman vinkin JC-matkallesi.

Kokousmatkat

Kirjoittajan kamaritarina alkoi Kanazawan maailmankokouksesta 2016, missä kansainvälinen kamarimeininki teki lähtemättömän vaikutuksen ja sinetöi jäsenhakemuspäätöksen. Alue- ja maailmankokoukset ovatkin helppo (ja varsin hauska) tapa uudenkin jäsenen lähteä tutustumaan kv-ympyröihin. Kokouksissa ohjelmaa riittää vapaamuotoisista retkistä aina huipputason koulutuksiin. Meillä suomalaisilla matkassa on myös aina valpas Team Finlandia, joka pitää porukan kasassa. Jos ja kun kv-kokouksiin taas päästään 2021, suosittelen osallistumista varauksetta. Kannattaa vilkuilla myös muiden maiden ja alueiden kokouksia ja tapahtumia - niistäkin löytyy usein ohjelmaa englanniksi, jos ko. maan kieli ei ole hallussa.

Multitwinning

Ankoilla on upea mahdollisuus rakentaa pitkäaikaisia ystävyyksiä oman multitwinning-verkostomme kautta. Kun kv-kokouksissa juostaan usein sulat sojossa tapahtumasta toiseen ja tavataan uusia ihmisiä joka käänteessä, multitwinning-tapaamisissa ehtii tutustua ystävyyskamarilaisiimme ajan kanssa. Nyt korona-aikana on ollut hienoa huomata, että tämä porukka pitää yhtä myös etänä: joka kuukauden ensimmäisenä päivänä on multitwinning etätreffit. Noin vuoden päästä on taas ankkojen vuoro toivottaa ystävät tervetulleiksi Turkuun, ja tapaamisen järjestelyihin tai kotimajoittajaksi voi lähteä jokainen mukaan.

Projektit ja tiimit

Kuten etätapaamiset, myös etäprojektit ovat kotikansainvälistymistä parhaimmillaan. Yksi mahdollisuus on JCI Europen erilaiset task forcet, joihin haetaan jäseniä alkuvuodesta, mutta toisinaan myös pitkin vuotta. Mm. JCI Europe Business Task Forcessa kehitetään euroopanlaajuista JCI-business-yhteisöä, ja tiimissämme on jäseniä eri puolilta Eurooppaa. Tähän mennessä olemme tavanneet ainoastaan etänä. Task Forceen voivat hakea mukaan kaikki eurooppalaisten kamareiden jäsenet - hakukuulutuksia voi seurailla

esimerkiksi JCI Europen FB-sivuilla tai SNKK:n kvkanavalla Teamsissa.

Toki myös SNKK:ssa pääsee toteuttamaan kansainvälisiä projekteja. Esimerkiksi viimeisin Strategy Academy järjestettiin kansallisen tiimin voimin, kun keräsimme parikymmentä kv-jiiceetä oppimaan strategian jalkauttamista ja nauttimaan Nuuksion luonnosta. Tulevana vuonna tulossa on jälleen SNKK:n kansainvälisiä akatemioita, joten kannattaa pitää tiimihakuja silmällä. Kaikilla on projekteissa varmasti annettavaa ja opittavaa. Eikä pidä unohtaa Team Finlandiaa, jonka toimintaan kaikki kv-jutuista kiinnostuneet jäsenet voivat lähteä mukaan pienellä tai isolla panoksella.

Vastuutehtävät kv-tasolla

Omalla kohdallani toimiva kv-strategia on ollut nostaa räpylä rohkeasti pystyyn, kun jotain mielenkiintoista on sattunut eteen. Jotkin positiot vaativat kuitenkin pitkäjänteisempää suunnittelua, joten pyysin muutamaa tuttua kv-kettua kertomaan omat vink kinsä. •

Heidi Jäntti – kv-kouluttajasta JCI Europen virkaan

Heidin nykyinen positio on European Development Committee (EDC) Councillor (Intensive Support). Tehtävässään Heidi vetää mm. EDC:n mentorointiohjelmaa. Komitea toimii osana JCI Europea, ja sen jäseneksi haetaan syksyisin. Vaaleilla valittavien kv-positioiden vaatimukset vaihtelevat, mutta kansallista kokemusta pitää olla - Suomessa tämä tarkoittaa yleensä virkaa kansallisella tasolla eli Keskusliitossa. Heidi vinkkaakin, että kv-kentille siirtymistä kannattaa ryhtyä valmistelemaan hyvissä ajoin ja ottaa yhteyttä kansalliseen puheenjohtajaan, kun haku lähestyy.

Moni tuntee Heidin myös kouluttajana. Tämä on hyvä väylä kv-toimintaan, jos hallituspositiot eivät tunnu omilta. Esimerkiksi aluekokouksiin on tavallisesti avoin kouluttajahaku alkuvuodesta - kuka tahansa voi tarjota omaa (englanninkielistä) koulutustaan osaksi kokousohjelmaa. Sama päätee maailmankokoukseen, jonka kouluttajahaku on yleensä kesällä. Toisinaan kv-kokouksissa on myös avoin haku JCI:n virallisten koulutusten kouluttajille. Kouluttajapolusta kiinnostunut voi aloittaa ottamalla yhteyttä vaikka kotikamarinsa INDiin tai hakeutumalla SNKK:n kouluttaja-akatemiaan.

Ríkey Jóna Eiríksdóttir – making a difference on European level

Ríkey Jóna is from JCI Iceland, from one of our Multitwinning partner chapters. She is now an active member of the 2020 Equality and Diversity Task Force in JCI Europe. Here are Ríkey’s greetings and tips:

"I was invited by an Icelandic member to work on matters that I burn for and the equality and diversity taskforce started to operate in 2019. We have now been working on many issues - my main focus has been to organise our webinars. During world congress we had an open event for those interested in equality and diversity, and invited all participants to join the task force.

If you want to work on international level, you should contact the national board, which can help you find a task force or a team of your interest. You can also check out the happenings during congresses in order to find interesting events or groups for you to join.

What you get from being in an international task force or team is that you get to know a lot of people from different countries and you learn to find ways to work together by using technology. Being in a task force allows you to work on issues that make a difference. I can really recommend joining an international task force or team!"

Kevin Hinds – journey to JCI Executive Vice President

Kevin has done an impressive career from the local to the international level, currently holding the position of EVP for JCI América. Here is his story from the very begininng of his JCI journey.

JCI Executive Vice President, it caused me to reflect on my over a decade long journey.

Early days

JCI was recommended to me by a work colleague, now JCI senator turned mentor and friend. I had shared with him my desire to give back to my community but I also wanted an opportunity to learn and to develop myself. He was a past national president at the time and was sure that the organisation would be an ideal fit for me. When I joined in 2007, I was quite grateful and satisfied with the training opportunities presented and the community engagement which gave you that "feel good" feeling, however I had no real motivation to lead as I more focused on my studies at the time. In 2012 however, I made a decision to run as local president as my local organisation, JCI Barbados was going through a difficult period and based on my renewed interest on the revised strategic plan, mission and vision of the organisation, I was deeply motivated to lead the organisation back to a place of stability...and growth.

Local and National Presidency

During my presidential year, we sought to embrace technology and reversed the old adage that we were "one of the best kept secrets in the world"! We launched our first Facebook page and created a website. I then encouraged a level of professionalism as we aligned our strategic plan with the international organisation. Attendance at my first international conference in 2013 in St Louis, Missouri, the home of JCI, played a huge role in understanding the concept of our organisation and helped lay the foundation for growth; being local president was the most testing and developmental part of my career.

I took this same passion to my national board and served subsequently as National Vice President, during that year I went to the 2014 JCI Japan Academy which was a life changing experience. Today, I believe it was a pivotal point in charting my path for my international JCI career. Later that year, I was elected National President of JCI West Indies, my national organisation, and I tried my utmost best to share and implement the best practices I learned at all levels of the organisation.

International Experience

Following a successful year as National President, I indicated my interest to my local and national organisation and they gave me their support to proceed to the next level. Studying for international office is not easy, you need to be well versed in the JCI Constitution, Parliamentary Procedures, the Strategic Plan and our History. Case studies are submitted before Congress, there is an interview panel with five past world presidents and an open caucus where you have to present your speech before the entire JCI membership. It can be an intimidating experience but I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I was super nervous throughout!

Serving as International Vice President was an amazing experience. I was assigned to USA, Canada, Haiti and Honduras. I was able to build relationships with members across the area and learn their various cultures. The travel experiences really opened my eyes and removed some prejudices which were shaped and influenced by the media. It is an experience that I wish every JCI member could benefit. I continued to be involved in JCI at the international level after I was elected IVP, continuing to serve on the 2018 Partnership Committee and 2019 Growth & Development Committee. I used these experiences to guide me in my current role. In conclusion

The path to international office is unique and I am aware that my journey may not be the same as yours, however one thing I have maintained throughout my tenure is to continue to engage with members at all levels and share the knowledge acquired so that they can make better decisions for our future. I have remained involved in my local organisation, and I am always happy to mentor each young active citizen with whom I come into contact. This is the true essence of leadership, at all levels. Once you keep this as your motivation and do everything you can with excellence, you will help our organisation embrace its tagline of "developing leaders for this changing world".
