JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our strength lies in our exclusive focus and singular influence on the worldwide effort to end T1D. T1D is an autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults suddenly. It has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent it. And, at present, there is no cure. Every dollar we put toward research comes from your donations. When you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research.

A magical night like this happens with the strong commitment, community and connectivity that you all bring.
Thank you for joining us this evening!
Dear Gala Patrons, Welcome to the 29th Annual JDRF Dream Gala! Thank you for joining us to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money we raise tonight will fund ongoing research toward the knowledge, treatment, and, ultimately, cure and prevention of this disease that affects 1.25 million Americans. JDRF directly funds the efforts of Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason to decode the immune system that has led to breakthrough discoveries getting us closer to a cure. Grants for clinical trials and therapies, as well as technological resources help scientists transform medical breakthroughs into real-life results for patients. Diabetes prevention, early detection, and successful treatment are all targets that inspire our research. With 40,000 people being diagnosed with T1D every year, we must not lose the momentum begun nearly 50 years ago, when JDRF was founded. Let’s each do our part in pushing toward our shared goal of eradicating type 1 diabetes. Your generous support of the JDRF Seattle Guild will make a difference right here in Seattle and beyond.
Wendy and Dr. Gary Kaplan 2018 Dream Gala Co-Chairs
Good evening and welcome to the casbah! We are grateful to each of you for joining our community of dreamers. We dream of a world without type 1 diabetes, and with your help, that dream becomes a reality — day by day, dollar by dollar. We are a community made up of sponsors, wine hosts, patrons, donors, volunteers, and staff, and we each do our part to help transform the lives of those living with T1D, and support progress toward a cure. Thank you. The JDRF Seattle Guild has raised $70 million to date; let’s celebrate that effort here tonight and push that number still higher. We can’t imagine a tastier, more fun way to drive research that will improve the lives of millions. It is our honor and pleasure to help drive these efforts forward. As close friends, The Lills, Joneses, and Kaplans, ask you to dig deep tonight and together we can help propel efforts forward more quickly to finding a cure. We may not be able to get the genie back in the bottle, but let’s make the most of our wishes. Enjoy the magic carpet ride,
Greg & Stacy Lill 2018 Dream Gala Co-Chairs
Dean & Stacy Jones 2018 Dream Gala Co-Chairs
Dear Friends, On behalf of the JDRF International Board of Directors and the entire JDRF family, we congratulate the JDRF Seattle Guild on your 29th Annual JDRF Dream Gala. It is our pleasure to recognize and celebrate this year’s Gala Honoree, Poe Construction, for all they have done and continue to do to help us achieve our vision of a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). Thanks to these devoted champions, JDRF continues to be the leader in T1D research, driving critical advances in new therapies. We also want to congratulate and thank Event Chairs, Dr. Gary and Wendy Kaplan, Greg and Stacy Lill, and Dean and Stacy Jones, for their dedication to making tonight such a special evening for everyone. This night could not happen without the commitment of all who have worked hard to make this year’s event a success. JDRF works every day to change the reality of this disease for millions of people — and to prevent anyone else from ever knowing it — by funding research, advocating for government support of research and new therapies, ensuring new therapies come to market and connecting and engaging the T1D community. Over the past 29 years, JDRF Seattle Guild’s Dream Gala has raised nearly $70 million for T1D Research. Thanks to your efforts and support of JDRF, we will turn Type One into Type None. Please accept our deepest gratitude for your support tonight and for all that you do for JDRF. Sincerely,
Derek K. Rapp President & Chief Executive Officer

This year, the Seattle Guild is pleased to present the award to POE CONSTRUCTION in recognition of the company’s extraordinary and longstanding support. Both in its building projects and philanthropic endeavors, Poe Construction prioritizes honesty, integrity, respect, and trust. Our friends at the company have been tireless and generous partners in our fight for a world without T1D. The time and resources Poe Construction has so graciously given the JDRF Seattle Guild have buoyed our efforts to fund research to combat the disease and to improve millions of lives. Tonight we honor and thank Poe Construction for its commitment and dedication to a cure for T1D. We also wish to acknowledge the generosity of Poe Construction’s collective community who answered the call to join our efforts this year and join us in the ballroom tonight as sponsors and gala patrons.
About the Award The award was created by JEFF CRANDALL, a nationally recognized poet and accomplished glass artist. It is comprised of three handcrafted, sandblasted Poet’s bottles that bear the words: DREAM deeply and believe THANK YOU 100% pure gratitude ACHIEVE a world without T1D
Congratulations and Thank You!
Dear Dream Gala Patrons and Friends, Welcome to the 29th Annual Dream Gala “Dreams in the Casbah.” Poe Construction is honored to be the recipient of the 2018 Living & Giving Award. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this evening’s fundraising efforts to support the research that will bring us a world without type 1 diabetes. JDRF’s mission is to treat, prevent, and ultimately cure this disease by raising funds for research. JDRF-funded research encompasses type 1 diabetes at every stage: stopping its progression in people who are newly diagnosed, reversing it in those who have lived with the disease for years, and preventing the disease for at-risk people in future generations. Our job tonight is to raise funds to help find a cure. Each of us has already started that task by being here. Your invaluable support this evening will directly impact the lives of millions affected by type 1 diabetes. Now let’s really help by making tonight one of the most successful galas in JDRF Seattle Guild’s 29 years. Thank you, Poe Construction

Stephen Norman October 25, 1941 – January 5, 2018 We pay tribute to Steve who passed away peacefully on January 5 from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. He will be remembered by his family and his many friends as a man of great humor, kindness, character, fairness and generosity. To his JDRF Seattle Guild family, Steve is also remembered as a dear friend and longstanding, generous Guild member, who, along with his wife Annie, passionately championed the search for the cure. They steadfastly attended and supported the Dream Gala with friends and family in tow, and made significant major gifts to JDRF to fund critical research. After many rewarding years in investment banking Steve retired and, in 1991, became the owner of BMW Seattle. As Guild members, Steve enlivened the auction each year by generously donating new model BMW cars. Gala Patrons went wild as cars were bid well above list price, which encouraged Steve to smile and then double the gift. One year, he actually made it a triple! Steve will be remembered for that kindness, humor, and generosity and also for the example he set on evenings such as those and in the community.
Joel Norman, Annie Norman, Steve Norman, and Jill Norman
The Seattle Guild family and friends will miss him. His dedication inspires us to continue to search for the cure.
Together, we will turn Type One into Type None

Fund A Cure Speakers This evening, when the room is stilled and the special Fund A Cure portion of the evening begins, the inspirational Malnar family from Port Orchard will take the stage to share their personal T1D story with Dream Gala guests. MERRY MALNAR was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 11 years old, becoming the fifth generation of her family with the disease. Her father, grandmother, great-grandfather, and greatgreat-grandmother all had T1D. Because of her disease, Merry and her husband David thought they would never have children, yet they are the proud parents of Kayleigh, age 14, and Logan, age 10.
Because of their family history of T1D, Kayleigh and Logan have both been screened by JDRF-funded TrialNet. TrialNet is working to identify type 1 diabetes at its earliest stages and find ways to delay or prevent the condition in individuals at risk. Kayleigh was identified as Stage 1, having two or more autoantibodies. This means she will most likely develop T1D at some point in her life. Because of this, she is currently enrolled in the TrialNet Abatacept Prevention Study at Virginia Mason’s Benaroya Research Institute. You’ll meet the Malnar family during the Fund A Cure portion of our program, Item #19 in the Live Auction. The family’s positive attitude and optimism are inspirational. As Merry says: “We know every day is a blessing and is meant to be lived to the fullest.”
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy! Rock the Casbah tonight with our high-energy late night entertainment. This year marks 25 remarkable years since BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY arrived onto the music scene. Since its formation in the early nineties in Ventura, California, the band has toured virtually nonstop, performing on average 150+ shows a year, and has produced a sizable catalog of recorded music, with sales of over two million albums to date. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy was at the forefront of the swing revival of the ‘90s, blending a vibrant fusion of the classic American sounds of jazz, swing, and Dixieland, with the energy and spirit of contemporary culture. Taking inspiration from the creators of this uniquely American art form, the band’s original horn-infused music and legendary high-energy show introduces the genre to a new and younger generation while remaining cognizant and respectful of the music’s rich legacy. The band’s first phase of stardom featured an appearance in the 1996 indie film Swingers, a movie that introduced Big Bad Voodoo Daddy to an audience beyond their Los Angeles base. Since then, the band’s music has appeared in countless films and television shows, including The Wild, Despicable Me, Phineas and Ferb, Friends, Third Rock From The Sun, Ally McBeal, and So You Think You Can Dance. They have appeared on Dancing with the Stars, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, seven appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and the Super Bowl XXXIII halftime show. They have also appeared as special guests with many of the country’s most distinguished symphony orchestras, and performed for three U.S. presidents.
After 25 years, ten records, over 2,800 live shows, and countless appearances in film and television, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is showing no signs of slowing down.

Clinical Trials Testing therapies in human clinical trials is a critical step to deliver innovative breakthroughs to our community. Not only are clinical trials a requirement for regulatory approval, we gain scientific understanding from these studies as we learn what’s safe and what works. JDRF supported more than 70 human clinical trials of drugs and devices in FY2017. JDRF researchers track 57 of these trials by development phase. Other trials may be tracked by JDRF partners or are tracked outside of the traditional development pipeline.

Six Bottles of Cult-Status Bordeaux “ One of the handful of candidates for wine of the vintage is the 2006 Ausone. In fact, while tasting it, I was thinking, is there any estate in Bordeaux that, since 1998, has made as many legendary wines as proprietor, Alain Vauthier has at his beloved Ausone? Boasting an inky/blue/purple color as well as an extraordinary, precise bouquet of minerals, flowers, blueberry liqueur, and black currants, this wine possesses fabulous fruit and great intensity, but what makes it so special is its precision, focus, and almost ethereal lightness despite substantial flavor intensity and depth. It is a ballerina with density and power. The abundant noticeable tannin is sweet and not surprisingly, very finely grained. It should be cellared for a decade, and consumed over the following half century.” –The Wine Advocate

Gretchen, like Gordon and her maternal grandfather, is a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America. Suffice it to say, you couldn’t be in better hands when it comes to jewelry design. From eye-catching pendants with diamond-encircled gemstones to diamond-and-white-gold cufflinks, from diamond drop halo earrings to (nudge, nudge) engagement rings and wedding bands, Gordon James’s pieces are, without exception, tasteful and exquisite. The only problem with the collection is that you’ll want it all! You are sure to head home with an heirloom that will be treasured for generations but also bring much pleasure now. Reed Drawing by Dale Chihuly “ If you look at the history of my drawings, you’ll see that they started off in the late ‘70’s working with graphite, charcoal, simple things, showing the glassblowers how to work, and they got more complicated.” – Dale Chihuly For Chihuly, drawing is every bit as natural as glassblowing. He works with acrylic paints, watercolors, ink, pencil, charcoal, graphite — even fire — to express his ideas with energy and exuberance. Chihuly’s Drawings range from light and ethereal to bold and colorful. Some, like Reed Drawing, which depicts the elongated and elegant form of his Reeds series, relate to Chihuly’s works in glass. Dale and Leslie Chihuly congratulate the JDRF Seattle Guild on 29 years of exceptional commitment to fundraising in support of diabetes research and for the powerful and compassionate impact they continue to have on the lives of so many.

Fund A Cure A whole new shining, shimmering, splendid world without T1D
The moment is here:
Fund A Cure
A moment to fund science that is transforming lives. A moment to raise our cards high to support JDRF-funded research that will progressively remove the burdon of T1D until there is a CURE. A moment to feel the priceless sense of satisfaction in making a real difference.
This evening, please help us create a world without type 1 diabetes through the support of research. We invite you to make a 100% tax deductible Fund A Cure gift tonight. Your generosity makes real progress possible and propels us toward our goal of a world without T1D. Our auctioneer will call out levels between $100,000 and $250. Please raise your bid card at the level at which you wish to contribute and hold it high until your bid number is called. When you raise your bid card tonight, know that you are changing the lives of millions of people affected by type 1 diabetes.
Thank You
This is a disease you cannot see. It’s invisible. It’s chronic. It’s complicated and it can be incredibly scary. With T1D, the numbers add up. Speaker, Merry Malnar shared her “JDRF T1D Footprint” to illustrate how much space T1D takes in a person’s life. And that’s just part of the story. This evening, Merry and her family will share their story of multigenerational type 1 diabetes and of their hope for a future without T1D. Your generous support tonight helps JDRF fund critical research to PREVENT, TREAT and CURE T1D. And for those living with the disease today, JDRF’s mission is to help make their lives healthier, easier and safer, while searching for the cure.
Increase the Power of Your Gift! If your company has a Matching Gift Program, please request a matching gift pledge form at the end of the night or call the JDRF office at 206-343-0873.

Six Bottles of an Iconic Super Tuscan “The 2014 Solaia was released during the second half of 2017. This is a fine-tuned expression that shows a focused sense of detail and careful attention. The quota of Cabernet Franc has been upped by a hair and this makes a big difference, especially in terms of the wine’s bouquet. Otherwise, this celebrated Tuscan Blend is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. It opens to dark fruit aromas with crushed mineral, pipe tobacco, pressed flower and toasted spice. Its appearance is midnight black and profound. The wine delivers a sense of sheer excitement and nervousness that will subside with another few years of bottle age. In the mouth the wine is firm, compact, and dense. The tannins are chiseled to the point of sublime integration. Marchesi Antinori made 40% less Solaia in this vintage in order to maintain the quality you taste here.” –The Wine Advocate • 2014 Marchesi Antinori Solaia Toscana 95 points, The Wine Advocate VALUE : $1,647 DONOR : Alan G. Six Bottles of Burgundy Grand Crú “This too is extremely ripe yet manages to avoid any sense of sumaturité on the once again liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, cassis, anise and lilac scents. This is a massive wine, with simply huge mid-palate concentration, power and muscle that terminates just like the Rodin in a borderline painfully intense finale that both coats the palate and lasts for minutes — this ultra-structured and overtly austere effort is not only built for the long haul but for the very long haul. I have suggested an initial drinking window of 25 years from now but it may very well be 35–40.” –Allen Meadows, Burghound • 2015 Domaine Faiveley Clos des Cortons Faiveley Corton Grand Cru 95–97 points, Vinous VALUE : $1,290 DONOR : Alan G. ÀMAURICE CELLARS Situated on 13 perfectly sloped acres in the Blue Mountains of Walla Walla, Washington, àMaurice Cellars is a family-owned boutique winery that creates extraordinary, food-friendly wines. Each wine is the living result of fervent dedication to sustainable viticulture and the passion and skill of expert winemaking — and the growing talents of more than 15,000 select vines. www.amaurice.com
“Ambassador Wines – Exclusively Red Wine, Exclusively Estate, Exclusively Red Mountain.” AMBASSADOR WINES OF WASHINGTON produces 100% Estate Grown Washington State red wines from our outstanding vineyard located on Red Mountain. We are committed to making wines of the finest quality that reflect the richness and diversity of the Red Mountain terroir. www.ambassadorwinery.com
ARMSTRONG FAMILY WINERY
is one the area’s fastest growing young wineries. Specializing in distinctive Bordeaux-inspired blends, Armstrong’s award-winning wines are hand-crafted to express the character of Washington State. The Armstrong family recently relocated to a historic farm and vineyard in Walla Walla and this month opened a second tasting room in Walla Walla’s historic downtown. Armstrong wines are available in their Woodinville and Walla Walla tasting rooms, and online at www.armstrongwinery.com
Our goal is at AVENNIA is to make wines that evoke clarity: clarity of place, clarity of type, clarity of purpose. We believe this is best expressed by using the classic French varietals and blends, with methods passed down over generations. We work within this context to allow Washington vineyards and terroirs to distinguish themselves. Terroir is only readily appreciable in a well-formed, harmonious wine. Structure is the backbone from which beauty can radiate. www.avennia.com
Lance Baer founded BAER WINERY in 2000 with a single passion — to bring something unique to Woodinville’s growing wine community. After years of working with some of the most prestigious wineries in the area, Lance wanted to take his winemaking skills in his own direction. He succeeded in handcrafting blends distinctly his own, and in April 2003 the first vintage of the winery’s signature blend, Ursa, was released. Ursa, a feminine expression of red wine, predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Franc, was soon followed by other blends and varietals from select vineyards. The small, family-owned enterprise still remains dedicated to producing the finest blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Syrah, as well as an exceptional unoaked Chardonnay. Baer Winery is honored that the wines continue to receive national acclaim, including appearances in the Top 100 wines of the world. We look forward to sharing these wines with you. www.baerwinery.com
BARONS WINERY has been making world class Washington Cabernet since 2001. Our long history affords us the finest grapes Washington has to offer, and we take great pride in the wines we produce from them. We value vine age, and have some of the oldest vines in Washington producing grapes for our wines. Our wines are delicious upon release, crafted with balance, ample acidity to age gracefully, and have a fine polish.
Barons’ elegant tasting room is located in Downton Walla Walla, and our vineyards are located in the dry, desert lands of Eastern Washington. Come to the tasting room and enjoy our current release wines and experience our older vintage wines. www.baronsv.com
BARRAGE CELLARS is a Boutique Winery. Making wine in true Garagiste fashion, focusing on 100% varietals from the finest vineyards and regions of Washington combined with the finest barrels from France and a few from America is what Barrage Cellars is all about. Our winemaker is not against blending grapes of different varietals but prefers to showcase the elegance and nuances of single varietals from Washington State. www.barragecellars.com
Sugar Mountain businesses contribute a percentage of all sales to BEECHER’S FOUNDATION (501c3), founded by Sugar Mountain CEO Kurt Dammeier and in 2004. Beecher’s Foundation is a small but mighty team of change-makers, stubborn optimists, and unapologetic eaters. As they put it, “We live in the real world, we don’t shy away from the stickiest problems, and we believe in the power of individuals to make everyday choices that will transform our food system.” Beecher’s Foundation is dedicated to re-imagining our food future. Through direct programming for youth and adults, they educate and inspire people to eat real food and vote with every food dollar. The Seattle-based Foundation operates the Pure Food Kids Workshop and Sound Food Uprising. www.beechersfoundation.org
Owner Nina Buty founded BUTY in 2000, inspired by a decade of vintages from Washington and overseas. An artisan producer, Buty creates vineyard-designated Chardonnay, a crisp white blend, and nuanced red blends — including Rediviva, Washington’s pioneering blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our philosophy of winemaking reflects the old religious worldview of human growth from body to mind to soul to spirit, called “the great nest of being.” The all- inclusive nest of being grows over time as we reach for the spiritual levels of life. So too, Buty wines evolve, expanding their quality at each stage of their development. www.butywinery.com
CLAAR WINE GROUP strives to develop proactive and preventative, sustainable agricultural practices. These include the use of integrated pest management, beneficial cover crops, and manual weed control. The vineyards and winery are both LIVE, IOBC certified sustainable and Salmon-Safe. Our family of brands includes Claar Cellars, Ridge Crest, Kelso, Demri Layne and Nicola’s redmark, Le Chateau and Chateau Walla Walla. www.claarcellars.com
At CÔTE BONNEVILLE, we believe that great wine is made in the vineyard. We planted classic varietals in 1992 after tearing out the original orchard. We continue to develop the vineyard with one goal in mind: to grow the best grapes possible from our site. Our commitment to producing the highest quality fruit has been appreciated by our winery customers, consumers of their wines, and wine reviewers. www.cotebonneville.com
DeLILLE CELLARS is a boutique artisan winery located in Woodinville, Washington. The winery was founded in 1992 by Charles and Greg Lill, Jay Soloff, and celebrated winemaker Chris Upchurch. DeLille Cellars pioneered Bordeaux-style blends from Washington State, and has maintained a tradition of quality and excellence with nearly 200 wines scored 90+ from leading publications. The winery focuses on the Red Mountain AVA and grape sourcing from Washington’s leading Grand Cru vineyards, including Ciel du Cheval, Grand Ciel, Upchurch, Red Willow, Sagemoor, Klipsun, Boushey and Harrison Hill. DeLille Cellars was named the “Lafite Rothschild of Washington State” and a 5-star/outstanding producer by Robert Parker. www.delillecellars.com
At DUNHAM CELLARS we produce premium wines through gentle treatment in all phases of the winemaking process. Using grapes from some of the finest vineyards in the Walla Walla, Yakima and Columbia Valleys our wines reflect our commitment to quality from vineyard to bottle and showcase the quality of our vineyards and their combinations of climate, soil and geography. From our very first vintage, a 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon, our wines have earned high marks from both consumers and trade. We make wines that are structured and balanced, and are proud to place our Dunham name on. www.dunhamcellars.com
EFESTĒ, pronounced F-S-T, is an acronym made from the last names of the winery’s original founders: Ferrelli, Smith, and Taylor. EFESTĒ was founded in 2005 as a tribute to the Ferrelli family tradition of winemaking passed down through the generations.
Since its inception, EFESTĒ has amassed an impressive list of accolades, including multiple appearances on the Seattle Met Top 100 Washington Wines as well as Wine Spectator’s Top 100 in 2011 and 2008. The winery and tasting room are located in Woodinville, and we have recently opened a second tasting room location in the SoDo neighborhood of Seattle! www.efeste.com
FIDÉLITAS, Latin for faithful, loyal and true, is a family-owned winery on Red Mountain, led by veteran winemaker and owner, Charlie Hoppes, who recently celebrated three decades of making wine in Washington. Fidélitas is faithful to Bordeaux grape varietals, loyal to modern craft winemaking techniques, and true to Washington State’s Red Mountain terroir. Fidélitas wines are handcrafted and aged in small lots, creating wines of exceptional character, varietal expression and structure. www.fidelitas.com
GUARDIAN CELLARS AND NEWSPRINT WINERY All the wine fit to drink. Long live the
free press and long live the single varietal wine. Here’s the scoop: Newsprint was created in 2013 to give a little love to Washington’s finest single varietals and a lot of love to Jennifer, a longtime journalist and the prettier half of Guardian Cellars. www.guardiancellars.com
HIGHTOWER CELLARS Many of us are in search of more authentic experiences, those that are inherently compelling and that resonate at a deeper level. Hightower Cellars makes wines that fulfill that desire — naturally beautiful and free from pretense. We let the powerful and concentrated fruit from Red Mountain speak for itself. The result is a collection of well-balanced, nuanced wines that reveal something new and interesting each time you open a bottle. We like to think they’re wines with character, through and through — in how they were made, how they taste and in the connections they inspire. www.hightowercellars.com
KERLOO was our calling to leave behind ordinary lives, our calling to explore life’s journey with family and friends, our calling to pursue our passion for winemaking in Washington State. With each passing year, our passion for winemaking continues to evolve, a continual pursuit to push winemaking and our lives to new levels.
Kerloo is our inspiration and we pride ourselves on bottling palatechallenging wines that everyday consumers aren’t accustomed to drinking. We believe this is what keeps people coming back vintage after vintage. We’re committed to being accessible with an intimate connection to our wine. We hope our wine can be a part of your personal calling in life. www.kerloocellars.com
LATTA WINES is an artisan producer of mostly Rhone varietals now based in Seattle, WA. Winemaker/Owner Andrew Latta had been a winemaker for a notable Washington property for over a decade before releasing his own small production wines. Latta Wines works with small parcels of the most unique vineyards in the state to produce low intervention, site-driven wines. www.lattawines.com
LONG SHADOWS VINTNERS is a partnership that brings seven of the world’s most celebrated winemakers to Washington State’s Columbia Valley. Each partner crafts a single, stand-alone wine using grape varieties for which he is best known. Long Shadows founder and Washington wine trailblazer Allen Shoup facilitates the collaboration. Produced at a state-of-the-art winery in Walla Walla, each of these seven, distinct wines comprise the Long Shadows Vintners collection. www.longshadows.com
Pioneer of the Columbia Valley wine region, Butch Milbrandt saw potential in Eastern Washington. He’s one of the first to drive a stake into what is now known as a world-class wine destination. In 1997, this fourthgeneration farmer took a risk in planting grapes and soon became recognized for helping establish two of the top AVAs in Washington State: Ancient Lakes and Wahluke Slope. Transforming their parents’ family farm into renowned vineyards, Butch and his brother Jerry have been instrumental in putting Washington wine on the map. The Milbrandts are celebrating nearly two decades of producing 90-point wines. Evergreen Vineyard was named “Vineyard of the Year” by Seattle Magazine and over 12 varietals have been awarded “Best Buy” or “Editor’s Choice” by Wine Enthusiast. Now a multigenerational brand with Butch and his son Buck taking the lead, MILBRANDT VINEYARDS remains a symbol of perseverance and reward. www.milbrandtvineyards.com

Rudy Marchesi presides over the estate with his daughter, Kristin Marchesi, who is carrying on the family tradition as General Manager. Together they uphold the family vision of employing thoughtful farming and the utmost care in winemaking. The close attention to each step of the grape-growing process is rooted in the belief that exceptional wine is born of a sustained marriage of soil, climate and artful stewardship. RÔTIE CELLARS Since 2007, winemaker and owner Sean Boyd’s goal has been to make traditional Rhône blends in Washington State. Boyd’s winemaking philosophy is simple — combine old world winemaking techniques with the highest quality Rhône varietals that Washington has to offer. Boyd sources from some of the best and oldest vineyards in the state in an effort to showcase the most elegant blend possible, while ensuring the typicity of the fruit is expressed.
Rôtie’s program is small and focused, and production limited. Each lot is individually attended to, allowing for an uncompromising approach to quality. www.rotiecellars.com
SAVAGE GRACE WINES was established in 2011 by owner-wine-maker Michael Savage, with a vintage of Cabernet Franc. His vision is to make Old World style lower-alcohol, expressive wines and put his philosophy of low-intervention winemaking into practice, where the grape, vineyard and vintage form a unique balance.
‘SAVAGE’ — echoes the struggle of the grape to withstand the stress of ripening, along with making that is true to the grape, site, and vintage. ‘GRACE’ — also his wife’s name, is symbolizing what he hopes to achieve as the end result a wine that is delicate, balanced, approachable yet expressive. www.savagegracewines.com
SIGHTGLASS CELLARS is a new Washington winery focused on the diverse soils of our state. Formerly the winemaker at Woodinville Wine Cellars, I started this winery to continue on a tradition of focus on varietal character and teaching our customers more about our states wine diversity. With well over a decade of winemaking experience in Washington, we will bring wines of purity and expressiveness. Also, our commitment to working with great charity organizations will be a priority. www.sightglasscellars.com
What started in 2008 as a big idea and single barrel of Syrah in a friend’s garage has grown to 2500 cases of wine annually and two booming tasting rooms in the SoDo neighborhood of Seattle. Husband and wife duo, Brian Grasso and Brandee Slosar have put 100% of themselves into a very unique winery that specializes in Syrah & Cab Franc all served up with spectacular customer service. Brian the Winemaker, focuses on approachable, fruit forward, food-friendly wines that are true to beautiful Washington varietals with plenty of STRUCTURE! www.structurewines.com
TRUTHTELLER WINERY, based in Woodinville, produces classic Washington wines. Crisply tantalizing whites, intriguingly complex reds. But we think it’s boring to take ourselves too seriously.
People ask how we came up with our name, TruthTeller, and our jester logo. Family lore said the Swiss origin of our name translated into “village idiot.” Later, we heard the meaning is closer to “jester” — an entertainer who tells the truth through comedy. The jester and wine share the trait of balancing truth, pleasure and fun. Geeking out about wine can be fun, but is only one aspect of wine. When people tell us I don’t know very much about wine, we say all you need are functioning taste buds. They will tell you everything you need to know. Wine shouldn’t be a mystery, but an accessible pleasure. Life and wine are to enjoy. The truth of our wines is in every bottle. www.truthtellerwinery.com
At W.T. VINTNERS, we are crafting terroir driven wines which highlight the aromas, flavors, and nuance of vineyard sites made special by ancient geological cataclysms. We embrace a holistic approach both in the vineyard and winery. Organic and biodynamic farming are a constant pursuit with our contracted growers in the greater Columbia Valley and Columbia Gorge. We practice simple methods and techniques rooted in winemaking tradition. Our goal is to have as little impact on the wine as possible, thereby allowing the vineyard, not the winemaker, to express itself. We are a family of friends seeking to make wines of ultra-premium quality. Our wine is made to be enjoyed with good friends and good food, not hoarded and locked away. www.wtvintners.com
