Presidents Corner Hello, The 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Show and Celebration was held in September and was a success! Thank you to all the volunteers that helped with the show. We couldn’t have done it without you. I tried to get back to our roots and our traditions that had gone by the way side. I feel that is what our Celebration is all about. In September we were chosen to host the “Wall that Heals”. Thank you to the Douglas County Veterans Memorial Association for bringing the Wall to Ava. Your organization did a great job in bringing it to this area. We are glad we could be a part of such a special event. I’m also glad that the veterans are now running our cook shack during our shows. It helps our association and also helps the veterans. Please be sure to thank our veterans for their service and for helping the MFTHBA. Congratulations to everyone who came out as winners in our election this year. Good luck to all! With that being said I would like to say thank you to all who have supported me the last two years. I learned a lot. I feel I managed to get a lot accomplished with the help of members who became friends in the process. I ask that you as members insist on keeping the transparency we accomplished by keeping the meetings open and videoed. That alone is very important. Members are entitled to ask for records also. It’s the law. Be sure to check the Missouri Not for Profit law if you have any questions. * In closing it has been a honor and a pleasure to serve the members of the MFTHBA. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do so. Sincerely, Aaron Stanifer *Editor’s note: for your convenience here is a link to the Revised Missouri Statutes October 2018 The Journal 3

2018 WGC: Lady Antebellum

By Jen Gaffke

Lady Antebellum, owned by Lee Hackler and ridden by trainer, Tom Williams, won the 2018 World Grand Championship in the Open class during the World Show and Celebration in September. Last year she won the Amateur World Grand Championship. In a recent interview with Lee Hackler he said, “Winning the Open World Grand Championship was bittersweet”. On one hand he was so pleased with and proud of Lady Antebellum and on the other hand it was sad because it meant it was time for him to sell her. He explained, “ Lady A has gone as far with me as she can go, its time for her to move on”. Lee Hackler describes Lady Antebellum (affectionately known as Lady A) as the best horse he has ever had and he said he has had a whole bunch of good ones over the years. When asked what is next for Lady Antebellum Lee Hackler said that she has been sold and the new owner plans to raise some foals from her by embryo transplant. He also said that he will not be too surprised to see Lady A back in the show ring in a different class next year. We will all have to stay tuned to see what this beautiful horse does next.

MFTHBA hosted “The Wall That Heals” in partnership with the Douglas

County Veterans Memorial Association. The truck transporting the Wall arrived in Ava on September 18 accompanied by an escort motorcade of over 600 cars and motorcycles. Visitors to the Wall That Heals numbered over 20,000 during the three day event. The Wall That Heals is an exact, albeit scaled down, replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. The truck that transports it is a mobile museum, as it has built into it’s sides displays of memorabilia, historical data and informational videos. During an interview with Larry Morrison of the Douglas County Veterans Memorial Association I found out that bringing the Wall to Ava was a two year process. Mr. Morrison said that once they were selected to host the Wall they had to find a venue large enough. The surprise came when they were notified that they would be the first group to host the new, larger replica wall which is built to 3/4 scale (375’) rather than 1/2 scale (250’). Larry Morrison said “this is where the Foxtrotters came in”. Larry says MFTHBA were “wonderful and gracious hosts, we were very fortunate because they had the perfect facility for what we had to do”.
