SUMMER/FALL 2021 NEWSLETTER

GREETINGS FROM THE CAMBRIDGE LAKES COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION STAFF! Congratulations to Justin Hurley, our Biggest Loser winner! On Monday, January 4th, 2021 Justin and 26 other determined Cambridge Lakes residents began their 85-day journey in the Cambridge Lakes Biggest Loser Competition. Justin used this competition to train for this month’s 2021 IRONMAN 70.3 Steelhead competition in Benton Harbor, MI. This will be his second IRONMAN since his debut at the 2013 IRONMAN 70.3 Racine competition. Since winning the Biggest Loser Competition, he continues to work out five to six days a week, eats healthy, and looks forward to traversing through Southwestern Michigan’s wine country and beaches to the IRONMAN finish line. Justin would tell anyone attempting to lose weight, “eat less and exercise more or you can’t out run your diet”. To the 26 other Biggest Loser contestants, we thank you for your hard work and dedication. Many of you were able to transform your lives from the inside out. What a great achievement! The Burlington-Hampshire Area Food Pantry of Hampshire, Illinois was very grateful to the residents of Cambridge Lakes who donated the well needed paper donations for the March-April 2021 Burlington-Hampshire Food Pantry Paper Drive. The intent of this drive was to increase the pantry’s low shelf supply of paper products, such as toilet paper, paper toweling, and facial tissue. Your donations provided relief for residents living in the Burlington, Hampshire, and Pingree Grove. While Easter celebrations went on at many Cambridge Lakes homes, there was one notable event that was hosted by the Cambridge Lakes Community Association, the Easter Bunny Egg Delivery. The CLCA staff and the Easter Bunny hippity-hopped while delivering over forty dozen eggs. The families of Cambridge Lakes were elated with the Easter Bunny’s gift giving and taking selfies with their undoubtedly famous friend. Thank you to all the families that allowed the Easter Bunny to hop into your lives. She always looks forward to hopping around Cambridge Lakes!

Thank you to the 3rd grade students from the Cambridge Lakes Charter School who celebrated Arbor Day by Zoom and inperson to help plant and learn about this Tri-Color Beech tree at the Cambridge Lakes Community Center. Wilson Nurseries of Hampshire, Illinois grew, cared for, and taught the students about this tree. This Tri-Color Beech, donated by a Pingree Grove resident, is a unique type of European beech that has low branches, smooth gray bark, and variegated leaves with shades of green, pink, and white. It took 18 years for this tree to get to the current size it was at the time of this Arbor Day planting. What a beautiful addition to the Community Center grounds!

Many residents of Cambridge Lakes enjoyed the spring food truck frenzy outside the Community Center. Ms. Tittle’s Cupcakes, Billy Bricks on Wheels, Perk N Pickle and Mario’s Cart provided such great cuisine items, as carrot pineapple cupcakes, artichoke pesto wood fired pizzas, grilled brie sandwiches, and roasted pork loin sandwiches. Thank you to all the residents for coming out to enjoy the great food offered by our food truck vendors. These events were tasty and successful!
