Brand New Smile TM

OF LIFE

IN JUST ONE DAY!

WHO THEY ARE

HOW THEY DO IT

Local and independently owned, Brand New Smile is led by Dr. Tim Stirneman. His team of specialists have decades of experience helping hundreds of patients with everything from single dental implants to full mouth restorations. They will take as much time as you need to understand the entire process. They won’t start anything until you understand everything. Every patient’s story is as unique as their case. Our #1 goal is to always exceed your expectations.

WHY THEY DO IT Dr. Tim and his team meet with so many people who haven’t smiled for ten to 30+ years due to a problem or insecurity that has been bothering them. Life is too short to not benefit from the health, functionality and everyday self-confidence that comes with having a great smile. Our dental implants forever change the lives of our patients by giving them a Brand New Smile to share with the world. If you are needing all of your upper or lower teeth replaced, or if you are frustrated with your dentures, implants are a the best option. Not just for comfort and functionality, but for your health. The procedure cleans out any decay and disease. It also prevents the bone in your jaw from shrinking by acting as a prosthetic root preserving your bone.

At Brand New Smile, it really is possible to have new teeth in one day. A FREE consultation will determine if this treatment is right for you. The key to the Brand New Smile solution is the strategic placement of the dental implants. Using highlyadvanced imaging, we find the places in your jaw that provide the most support for the four implants that your new teeth attach to. Our specialists are able to perform the entire procedure while you are sound asleep. Think of it as taking a great nap and waking up with your own Brand New Smile!

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU? Immediate satisfaction and long-term results. Order menu items you’ve been avoiding for years. Smile in pictures again with family and friends. Professional confidence with co-workers and clients. The closest thing to real teeth in both function and appearance. You can regain 97% of your original chewing ability vs.10-15% achieved with dentures. Feel more attractive to your partner or get you ready to get back out into the dating/social scene. Preserves the bone in your jaw keeping you looking and feeling younger.

Publ!sher’s Notes

ugust of 1968 was when the owner of Huntley Happenings was born. Mia was a unique blonde hair, blue eyed Sicilian who was the apple of her parents eyes. I met Mia when I was a freshman in college. We both attended St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minnesota. Although we never dated in school, we did go to a dance together as friends. It didn’t take long to fall in love with Mia. On our first date, after four years of being friends, I surprised her by telling her another couple would be joining us for Valentine’s Day dinner. My Grandma (83) and Grandpa (85) were our double date. After buying my Grandma and Mia each a rose, my Grandma asked how long we had been dating - Mia responded 15 minutes. She made it through that dinner and quickly we were married. I wanted to write a tribute to Mia as she celebrates her 50th birthday this month and really want to avoid talking about the thing that has dominated our 25 years together - her poor health. Mia is a juvenile diabetic and has been diagnosed with Leukemia. So that is the last you will hear about that. Mia is the strongest person I have ever met. She has been rolling a boulder up hill her entire life and never complains about it. She has taken her unfortunate circumstances and embraced it and made it a part of who she is. After complications during her first (and only) pregnancy, we decided to adopt. But to just adopt wasn’t enough for Mia, she wanted to adopt children with special needs. Why? Because she believed we could handle it. (She really believed she could handle it and she would carry me in my role). To raise four children is heroic in my mind, but to do it well with all of the obstacles life has thrown you on a daily basis in nothing short of remarkable. Then to lose one of those children and not completely let the wheels fall off, really makes me admire this 50 year old. As we begin our golden years together (your AARP card is in the mail), I want you to know that I will always be there. I love you and I hope we can celebrate 50 more together.

Patricia C. Kraft, Attorney at Law

QUESTION: HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED A LEGAL ESTATE PLAN? Estate Planning can be confusing and emotional – it doesn’t have to be! For many families, having an estate plan is critical. It can save thousands of dollars, prevent hurt feelings among family members, and avoid years of headaches. Like many things, estate planning becomes more manageable when you understand the basic concepts and terms. Then you will be able to decide if estate planning will benefit you and your family. ANSWER: When a person dies (he is now called a “decedent”) and he has no will or trust, Illinois law determines what happens to his assets and his minor children. These results may be acceptable to you, depending on your personal situation. If so, then you may not need a legal estate plan. But if you do not like the results, an estate plan can change them according to your instructions. When a decedent is “intestate” (meaning he has no will) the following results will occur: 1. A probate court will decide who will be guardian of his minor children (if his spouse also has died.) Since most parents want to nominate their choice of guardian, they need to execute Wills. 2. If a decedent is married and has children of any age, his “probate assets” will be distributed one-half to his surviving spouse and one-half to his children. Most spouses want the survivor to receive all of the assets, which they will then use to care for the family, and they name the children to inherit only if the spouse has already died. A Will or a Trust can accomplish this planning.

NOTE: If an asset transfers automatically at your death, like life insurance or a joint tenancy home, then it is not a “probate asset.” 3. An executor of a probate estate must purchase a surety bond to assure his faithful performance of the management of the decedent’s assets. A Will or a Trust can waive the requirement of surety on the bond, thus saving hundreds or thousands of dollars on the cost of the probate proceeding. 4. Children receive their inheritance at age 18. Many parents choose to delay distribution of all or part of a child’s inheritance. A living trust or a trust created in your will (a “testamentary trust”) can delay mandatory distributions until the age you choose, and can designate a trustee to oversee earlier distributions. It also can give priority to paying for costs of education and healthcare. 5. A probate court proceeding will be necessary to legally transfer title of probate assets to the beneficiaries. A living trust allows title to pass after death without probate. There are other documents and techniques to avoid probate on certain assets. These are some of the most common reasons families choose to set up a legal estate plan. The plan could include a will, a trust, or other documents to make sure your wishes are followed with regard to providing for your children and making the estate administration process as easy as possible.

UNIQUE, CUSTOM JEWELRY, FOR YOUR ONE OF A KIND

Spring Cleaning; Organizing We are busy with our spring cleaning lists at this time of the year. Winter windows turn into sparkling majesties as they are cleaned to let in bright rays of sunshine. Don’t forget to include your grand and mighty task of organizing on your spring cleaning to do list. Here are four elements of organizing which will improve your home’s management.

Space Invaders: Do you ever think about the possibility of creating more space in your home? You have hidden spots in your closets, and garage just waiting to be tapped into. Take a few minutes each week to identify places you want cleared out. This will be a fun task for you to enjoy. You will surprise yourself with the new space plan you have opened up. Five Minutes Rule: Sally called and wants to drop by to tell you all about their family’s cruise. Instead of being embarrassed to have her over, you can reply; please give me five minutes Sally. We all have that active stack we are sorting through. Clear your cluttered work space by placing the paperwork in a designated drawer of your choosing. You can return to the paperwork when company leaves, and know exactly where you left it. Your home looks neat and tidy

simply by not having a lot of paperwork clutter displayed when your company drops in.

Establish Routines: Remember when your Grandma set aside a day for doing laundry, and banking activities? You can do the same with your home management routines. Pick a day which works for you to open and distribute your mail. Maybe the same day, pay your bills for the week. Once a month establish a time to review your budget and projections. Decorate: Place a new wreath out on your front door. Change out some of your pillows you have around your home. Move some of the lamps, or tables, or knickknacks around to new spaces. Change of decor is always fun to explore and demonstrate in your home. Use the closest holiday to display some fun décor. Find a favorite hobby you enjoy and decorate with some accent pieces reminding friends of family of your interests and likes.

Rev!ews

Book Review by Annie Camille

The Time Between by Karen White

Chance is a mighty fine thing and I am grateful for the chance that brought this book to me. From the opening pages the author reaches out and grabs me and sucks me into the lives of her characters. The characters are so real and well developed that I could visualize them as real people and emote with them as they live their day-to-day lives burdened by the paths they follow and the choices they make. Ellie and Eve are sisters. Eve is beautiful and the center of her mother’s attention and ambition. Ellie is the apple of her father’s eye and a very talented musician. But when her father dies when she’s fourteen, Ellie becomes a fearless hoyden, going from extreme to extreme, craving her mother’s attention until it all comes to

a head one day. She dares Eve to climb a tree so they can show off for a young man they are both attracted to, but then Eve falls and becomes a paraplegic while Ellie survives somewhat unscathed. Her guilt over her sister’s condition turns Ellie into a faceless cipher who lives her life like a slave to her family from household chores to her earnings. Eve is now married to Glenn, whom they both love. Eve doesn’t blame her sister, once she comes to terms with her disability, but doesn’t know how to get herself out of the vicious cycle of hate that she’s created from the love they once shared. It’s hard to believe these two women were once inseparable sisters, but you can see it in hidden moments as Eve strives to create a bridge.

I believe this quote from the book says it all – “We live, we love. These are the chances we are given, to open doors or to close them. It is all we have and it is enough.” This book is definitely a keeper, and I am going to find other books by this author. I have already started to recommend this book to my friends.

Sports! How Jabari Parker will make the Bulls watchable If you’ve been reading my columns for a while, you probably have noticed one team missing from these columns, the Bulls. When healthy, Parker is a good NBA player, and despite the injuries he is still young enough to recover from them and bounce back. He is 23 and so far in his career, (183 games) he’s averaging 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. The one perk about this deal is that the Bulls know Parker really well because of Curtis the Chicago connection. The Koch Bulls had a front row seat to all of Parkers games while he attended Simeon. Assuming Parker has a Despite that, the Bulls made a move last solid year in which he is healthy this could month that to me has the makings of a be one of the most recent signings that high risk high pay off signing. That is the could be a win-win for the Bulls. signing of Jabari Parker. You’re probably saying “Yeah, what the hell Curtis?!” I know, I know! I apologize. To be completely honest, I am not the biggest basketball fan at this point in time. The league is superstar heavy and the same teams are always in the running for the title, (mainly Golden State) it’s hard for me to watch a league in which you basically know the results of the ending before the season starts.
